  I'm in the process of learning Scala and I came across a scenario today where I need to map multiple functions over a single piece of data and wondered if there was a formal name for this. It sort of feels like the inverse of map. I'm not sure this is the correct way of expressing it, but this is what I did: dmap(x: Object, fns: List[Function]) = fns.map(_(x)) Is there a built in way to do something similar? Is there a formal name for this function?

• Browser Item Caching and URLs

  Ultimately you want the browser to cache things like Flash components, Silverlight XAP files, and images to avoid users having to download them each time they hit a page.  But during development it's very useful to NOT have things cached so you are always looking at the most up-to-date file.  You can always turn off caching on your browser, but if you use your browser for daily browsing then its not the greatest option.  To avoid caching we would always just slap a randomly generated GUID to the back of the URL of any items we didn't want to cache (e.g. http://someserver.com/images/image.png?15f073f5-45fc-47b2-993b-fbaa781b926d).  It worked well, but you had to remember to remove the random GUID when it went to production. However, on a GimmalSoft project we recently implemented someone showed me a better way that didn't need to be removed from production code - just slap the last modified date of the file on the end of the URL (or something generated from the modification date).  This was kind of genius approach because it gives you the best of both world.  If you modify the file, the browser goes out and gets the newest version.  If you don't modify the file, it has the cached copy.  Very helpful!  The only down side is that you do have to read the modification date from the file, which does technically take some time.

• How can I make this script output each categories item per category [closed]

  Ok so here is the deal currently this script outputs all the products in a parent category as well as the products in the child categories. What i would like to do is seperate the output based on child categories. All the child categories are in the array $children and the string $childs. The parent category is the first array element of $children with the following ones being the actual children. The category names are stored in the database $result as " $cat_name ". I want to first Display the cat_name then the products that fall in that category and then display the next child cat_name and items, ect.   I seem to be having a problem with using ItemizedOverlay and OveralyItems in it. I can get the first overlayItem to appear on the map but not any items after that. • Cloned Cached item has memory issues

  Hi there, we are having values stored in Cache-Enterprise library Caching Block. The accessors of the cached item, which is a List, modify the values. We didnt want the Cached Items to get affected. Hence first we returned a new List(IEnumerator of the CachedItem) This made sure accessors adding and removing items had little effect on the original Cached item. But we found, all the instances of the List we returned to accessors were ALIVE! Object relational Graph showed a relationship between this list and the EnterpriseLibrary.CacheItem. So we changed the return to be a newly cloned List. For this we used a LINQ say (from item in Data select new DataClass(item) ).ToList() even when you do as above, the ORG shows there is a relationship between this list and the CacheItem. Cant we do anything to create a CLONE of the List item which is present in the Enterprise library cache, which DOESNT have ANY relationship with CACHE?!

  Hello, The problem I'm having is that if the fourth item has a long description, it cuts off as it goes below #features. • WPF - Listbox bound to collection acts as one item

  Hi, I have a listbox with the ItemsControl binding the ItemsSource to a readonly collection of strings. The ItemTemplate then declares the DataTemplate as a checkbox where its content is that of the name of the particular item in the collection and IsChecked bound to a property to determine whether or not the item is selected (it's just a listbox of checkboxes) This works fine with one exception - MouseOver the ListBox and it acts as if the collection of Strings is a single item; the whole box acts as if selected. This wouldn't be as much of a problem were it not for this also affecting the scrollbars where they won't get enabled - presumably because it considers the one item as being visible on the screen even though it in actual facts is x+ with only x-y showing on the screen. How do I get the listbox to act as if each individual string is its own item. I assume it acts this way because I declared a datatemplate in order to get a listbox of checkboxes?? Any help would be much appreciated!

  I am attempting to split strings like the following: An item (Item A) which may contain 89798 numbers and letters @ $550.00 4 of Item B @ $420.00 476584 of Item C, with a larger quantity and different currency symbol @ £420.00 into: array( 0 => 1 1 => "some item which may contain 89798 numbers and letters" 2 => $550.00 ); does that make sense? I am looking for a regex pattern which will split the quantity, description, and price (including symbol). the strings will always be: qty x description @ price+symbol so i assume the regex would be something like: `(match a number and only a number) x (get description letters and numbers before the @ symbol) @ (match the currency symbol and price)` How should I approach this?

  I'm using a combo box to select an item from a list of 25 items. The selected item is input in a text box in a comma delimited string. It is updating a list view and showing each item separately by breaking the comma delimited string. The text box is not visible to users but doing the work in back end. Now I want to remove any item from list view and want it so that the text box containing the comma delimited string should also change and remove that item from the string. Is it possible?

Say I have the following in a config file called menu.php: // Default controller is 'home' and default action is 'index' return array( 'items' => array( 'Home' => '', 'News' => 'news', 'Resources' => 'resources', ), ); I now want to print this out as a menu, which is pretty simple: foreach(Kohana::config('menu.items') as $title => $uri) { echo '<li>' . HTML::anchor($uri, $title) . '</li>'; } However, I want to find the $uri that matches the current controller and action. And if the action is the default one or not. What I want to end up with is that menu item should have id="active-item" if it is the linking to the current controller, but the default action. And id="active-subitem if it is linking to the current controller and the action is not the default one. Hope that made sense... Anyone able to help me out here? Both in how to do this in Kohana 3 and also how it should be done in Kohana 3. • latex list environment inside the tabular environment: extra line at top preventing alignment

So far I have gotten everything to my liking except one thing: the top of the list does not align with other entries in the table, in fact it looks like it adds one line above the list... • Show WPF tooltip on disabled item only

  Just wondering if it is possible to show a WPF on a disabled item ONLY (and not when the item is enabled). I would like to give the user a tooltip explaining why an item is currently disabled. I have an IValueConverter to invert the boolean IsEnabled property binding. But it doesn't seem to work in this situation. The tooltip is show both when the item is enabled and disabled. So is is possible to bind a tooltip.IsEnabled property exclusively to an item's own !IsEnabled? • Launchd item no longer firing in Snow Leopard

  A launchd item that was working in 10.5 is no longer working after my upgrade to 10.6. I am running 10.6.2 and I have recreated the launchd item and given it a new name and that one doesn't run either. I have found a link of people with the same problem on google groups but none of the advice in that link helps. My launchd item is not listed in /private/var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd/overrides.plist or in any of the overrides.plist files in the subdirectories of /private/var/db/launchd.db/ I have also tried to set this up as both a user agent and a user daemon. My launchd item simply runs a shell script, which I have no problem launching manually. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Label</key> <string>com.eric.tmnotify.launchd</string> <key>ProgramArguments</key> <array> <string>/<path_to>/tmnotify.sh</string> </array> <key>StartInterval</key> <integer>3600</integer> </dict> </plist> I have tried to load it by overriding the disabled key (even though it is not disabled in any of the overrides.plist files) with both: sudo launchctl load -F /Users/eric/Library/LaunchAgents/com.eric.tmnotify.launchd.plist sudo launchctl load -w /Users/eric/Library/LaunchAgents/com.eric.tmnotify.launchd.plist and after running either of them I can see that it is running by using sudo launchctl list but the shell script never fires.
