  • Quickly compute added and removed lines

    I'm trying to compare two text files. I want to compute how many lines were added and removed. Basically what git diff --stat is doing. Bonus points for not having to store the entire file contents in memory. The approach I'm currently having in mind is: read each line of the old file compute a hash (probably MD5 or SHA-1) for each line store the hashes in a set do the same for each line in the new file every hash from the old file set that's missing in the new file set was removed every hash from the new file set that's missing in the old file set was added I'll probably want to exclude empty and all white space lines. There is a small issue with duplicated lines. This can either be solved by additionally storing how often a hash appears or comparing the number of lines in the old and new file and adjust either the added or removed lines so that the numbers add up. Do you see room for improvements or a better approach?

  • MVC shared model different required fields on different type

    I have a model called Car and depending on what type of Car the user select the view is presented differently. For example the user selects from a grid of different cars and depending if it is a Volvo or a Kia or a Ford the view must allow different fields to be editable. For example with a Volvo the color is editable and is mandatory but with a Kia it is not. I would like to use the one Car class to bind the view but want the client side validation to pick up the required fields based on what type of car. I want to go only to one Action method for the Update what is a good way to approach this problem...? create a base class and inherit from it? will this give me binding problems..?

  • Cannot type '^' (caret) in native KDE apps

    I cannot type the caret character '^' in native KDE apps, such as plasmoids, editors (Kate, KWrite), etc. It worked in previous (older) versions of KDE (3.5, I think). I believe it may be related to the fact that I'm using a keyboard with a german layout, however, it would seem farfetched - I can type the caret character just fine in non-KDE apps (such as chrome, firefox, etc). I tried switching keyboard layouts, but no cigar. What's going on? What do I have to change to get the caret character back?

    I am wondering which is the best way to go with java code. I need to create a class with simple prompts for input.. I have tried using both classes and cannot work out the particular benefits for each.     I have a custom Sharepoint 2007 site definition with custom content types for the different page layouts. When editing a page using a custom layout from the main "View all contents" tree view, the page content type is fine, but if I view the page directly and edit it from there, the content type gets stripped and replaced with "Page." I can change it back by viewing and editing it from the main list, but not from its subsite home location.

  • I overwrote a large file with a blank one on a linux server. Can I recover the existing file?

    I came back to my machine, tried saving a file over ssh onto my linux server (CentOS). It failed. I wasn't interested in keeping any changes I had made so I closed my editor and reopened the file (over ssh). The save attempt wiped the file. I have made loads of changes to it since I last uploaded to revision control. Seeing as it has just wiped the file I assume the data is still there. It's just a text file (php), is there any way of recovering it?

  • I just deleted my backup file! How do I save it?

    I just accidentally deleted a backup file that I need to restore my system. It's an Acronis True Image TIB file. It was stored at H:\My backups and the name of the file was File_backup_2012-10-18.tib. I did a quick scan with Recuva 1.43.623 and it found the file using the recovery wizard, but it was unable to recover it. The "state" of the file is "unrecoverable". So the resulting file is 0 byte. I am trying to do a deep scan with Recuva right now but it takes a lot of time. If it should fail, what other recovery option do I have? Is there any other good file recovery software that's free to use for home users? I do have a second copy of the whole system partition, but I needed this file backup copy because it is more up to date. That's the file, right there! But why is Recuva unable to recover it?

    Hi, I m very new to ocaml and i m facing the problem below, In a.ml a record type t is defined and is also defined transparently in a.mli, i.e. in d interface so that the type definition is available to all other files. a.ml also has a function, func, which returns a list of t. Now in another file, b.ml i m calling func, now obviously ocaml compiler wud nt be able to infer d type of objects stored in d list, for compiler its just a list. so in b.ml, i hav something like dis, let tlist = A.func in let vart = List.hd tlist in printf "%s\n" vart.name (name is a field in record t) Now here i get a compiler error sayin "Unbound record field label name" which makes sense as compiler can't infer d type of vart. my first question: how do I explicitly provide d type of vart as t here? i tried doing "let vart:A.t = " but got the same error. I also tried creating another function to fetch the first element of d list and mentioning return type as A.t, but then i got the "Unbound value A.t". I did this: let firstt = function [] - 0 | x :: _ - A.t x ;; The problem is compiler is unable to recognize A.t (a type) in b.ml but is able to recognize function A.func. If I remove A.t from the b.ml, i don'get any compiler errors. Please help, its urgent work. Thanks in advance! ~Tarun

I also don't know if my file delete function is properly written. Searching on the net, I see everyone uses File.Delete(TheFile);, which i'm unable to use and I use TheFile.Delete(); For File.Delete(TheFile); i get following error: Error 1 'System.Web.Mvc.Controller.File(string, string, string)' is a 'method', which is not valid in the given context C:\Documents and Settings\ilija\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\CMS\CMS\Controllers\PhotoController.cs 109 17 CMS Am I missing something here?     Hi, On many occasions I have dealt with passing batch files arguments with spaces, quotes, percents, and slashes and all sorts of combinations of them. Usually I managed to figure out how to accomplish what I want, but this time I am stuck. I have tried a couple of hundred combinations now and my head is starting to hurt. I’ve reduced the problem quite nicely. It’s a simple requirement: pass a double-quoted space from one batch file to another. That is, one batch file should pass some string X to another so that the the second one echos " ". I just can’t figure out what X should be. Here is a minimal batch file that demonstrates and attempt that does not work. (This BAT file takes the place of both by calling itself.) ::Goal is to print: ::" " ::That is, to pass a quoted space from a BAT file to a BAT file if not (%1)==() goto recurse %0 "" "" :recurse echo %1 pause It does not work. I’ve tried using "\" \"", """ """, """" """", "\"" "\"", ""\" \""", "^" ^"", ^"" "^", and so on.   • Upload file using jquery dialog not working

    i want to upload file using jquery dialog. I have created a partial view and showing that partial view in the dialog. The problem is, when I directly browse the partial view and upload a file, it works perfect. BUT when I put the partial view inside a jquery dialog, it submits the form, but don't submits the file. So i have null value. I really dont understand what is the difference here!!   • Logic: Best way to sample & count bytes of a 100MB+ file

    Let's say I have this 170mb file (roughly 180 million bytes). What I need to do is to create a table that lists: all 4096 byte combinations found [column 'bytes'], and the number of times each byte combination appeared in it [column 'occurrences'] Assume two things: I can save data very fast, but I can update my saved data very slow. How should I sample the file and save the needed information? Here're some suggestions that are (extremely) slow: Go through each 4096 byte combinations in the file, save each data, but search the table first for existing combinations and update it's values. this is unbelievably slow Go through each 4096 byte combinations in the file, save until 1 million rows of data in a temporary table. Go through that table and fix the entries (combine repeating byte combinations), then copy to the big table. Repeat going through another 1 million rows of data and repeat the process. this is faster by a bit, but still unbelievably slow This is kind of like taking the statistics of the file. NOTE: I know that sampling the file can generate tons of data (around 22Gb from experience), and I know that any solution posted would take a bit of time to finish. I need the most efficient saving process
