• WCF facility : Metadata publishing for this service is currently disabled

  I asked this before and got no where so i'm asking again as i'm now desperate!! • Java Conversion of byte[] into a srting and then back to a byte[]

  I am working on a proxy server. I am getting data in byte[] which i convert into a string to perform certain operations. Now when i convert this new string back into a byte [] it causes unkonw problems. So mainly its like i need to know how to correctly convert a byte[] into a string and then back into a byte[] again. I tried to just convert the byte[] to string and then back to byte[] again (to make sure thats its not my operations that are causing problems). So its like: // where reply is a byte[] String str= new String(reply,0, bytesRead); streamToClient.write(str.getBytes(), 0, bytesRead); is not equivalent to streamToClient.write(reply, 0, bytesRead); my proxy works fine when i just send the byte[] without any conversion but when i convert it from byte[] to a string and then back to a byte[] its causes problems. can some one please help? =]

• Perl, efficient parsing of csv file

  I'm working on a project that involves parsing a large csv formatted file in Perl and am looking to make things more efficient. My approach has been to split() the file by lines first, and then split() each line again by commas to get the fields. But this suboptimal since at least two passes on the data are required. (once to split by lines, then once again for each line). This is a very large file, so cutting processing in half would be a significant improvement to the entire application. My question is, what is the most time efficient means of parsing a large CSV file using only built in tools? note: Each line has a varying number of tokens, so we can't just ignore lines and split by commas only. Also we can assume fields will contain only alphanumeric ascii data (no special characters or other tricks). Also, i don't want to get into parallel processing, although that might work effectively.

• ASP.NET Temporary Folders - growing uncontrollably

  On our production server, we find that the ASP.NET Temporary folders grow uncontrollably. It reaches as much as 14Gb. When we check the folder content, we find couple of assemblies being created again and again in the folder. What could be possible reasons for this duplication? As per our understanding, compiled ASP assemblies goes into temporary folders - so what could be reasons for some of these assemblies getting duplicated in these temporary folders? What possible fixes (other than IIS Reset or changing web.config etc. - causing delete of all these files) can we look forward to implementing?

• ria entity remove bug

  hello, I am trying out the ria services and I am experiencing this problem that seems very strange to me. I am creating a new entity of type "House" and add it to context without saving the context so the id of the new entity is 0, after i remove this entity and add another new entity of type "House" again and again without saving the context, here comes the weird part, now I have an entity of type "City" which holds entityset of all "Houses" in that city, so to put the newly created entity "House" into the city i do something like this - house.City = city, where house is type "House" and city is type "City", afte this step a check the context and suddenly there are 2 entities of type "House" with id 0, one of them is the one I have deleted at the beginning. Any idea what is causing this and how to fix it?? thank you Greg

• String Constant Pool memory sector and garbage collection

  I read this question on the site How is the java memory pool divided? and i was wondering to which of these sectors does the "String Constant Pool" belongs? And also does the String literals in the pool ever get GCed? The intern() method returns the base link of the String literal from the pool. If the pool does gets GCed then wouldn't it be counter-productive to the idea of the string pool? New String literals would again be created nullifying the GC. (It is assuming that only a specific set of literals exist in the pool, they never go obsolete and sooner or later they will be needed again)

• Can a variable bu used 2nd time after releasing it?

  Hello, I try to understand the memory management in ObjectiveC and still some things are a misery for me. I've got an instance variable: NSMutableArray *postResultsArray; when a button is clicked in the UI I create new array: self.postResultsArray = [NSMutableArray array]; then I add some objects to the array and when the whole operation is done I would like to release the array: [self.postResultsArray release]; (I assume that all the objects stoed in the array will be released along with the array). The problem appears when I click the button again and in the code I want to create the array again with: self.postResultsArray = [NSMutableArray array]; I get: [CFArray release]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3d9e390 Can't I initialize the same instance variable for the second time? or maybe I should not release it? and if so, why? • Import text file crunching library for Java/Groovy ?

  In a lot of real life implementations of applications we face the requirement to import some kind of (text) files. Usually we would implement some (hardcoded?) logic to validate the file (eg. proper header, proper number of delimiters, proper date/time value,etc.). Eventually also need to check for the existence of related data in a table (eg. value of field 1 in text file must have an entry in some basic data table). While XML solves this (to some extend) with XSD and DTD, we end up hacking this again and again for proprietary text file formats. Is there any library or framework that allows the creation of templates similar to the xsd approach ? This would make it way more flexible to react on file format changes or implement new formats. • T-SQL: How Do I Create A "Private" Function Inside A Stored Procedure

  Okay so im writing a SQL Server 2008 Stored Procedure (maintenance script). In doing so, being a good boy i've done plenty of error handling, checking rowcounts, printing output messages, etc But in doing this, ive found myself writing over and over again something like this: SELECT @RowsAffected = @@ROWCOUNT IF @RowsAffected > 0 BEGIN PRINT CAST(@RowsAffected, NVARCHAR(2)) + 'rows updated.' END Or debug messages like this: PRINT 'User ' + CAST(@UserId AS NVARCHAR(5)) + ' modified successfully' Is there a way i can create a kind of 'subroutine' inside the stored procedure (like a private method) that can accept something as a parameter (doesnt have to though) and do some logic? I want to be able to do something like this: CheckRowCounts Or this: PrintUserUpatedMessage(@UserId) Which would then perform the above logic (check rowcount, print message, etc) And yes obviously i can create a UDF, but then i would need to create/drop it etc as this logic is only required for the life of the execution of this stored procedure. Getting sick and tired of writing the same code over and over again, and changing all the different areas ive used it when i get an error =) Can anyone help?

• Java NullPointerException when traversing a non-null recordset

  Hello again - I am running a query on Sybase ASE that produces a ResultSet that I then traverse and write the contents out to a file. Sometimes, this will throw a NullPointerException, stating that the ResultSet is null. However, it will do this after printing out one or two records. Other times, with the same exact input, I will receive no errors. I have been unable to consistently produce this error. The error message is pointing to a line: output.print(rs.getString(1)); It appears to happen when the query takes a little longer to run, for some reason. The recordset returns thus far have been very small (4 to 7 records). Sometimes I'll have to run the app 3 or 4 times, then the errors will just stop, as though the query was getting "warmed up". I've run the query manually and there doesn't appear to be any performance problems. Thanks again!

  Hi! I have an application that read emails from a pop3 account. When I connect to the account I download all new emails and process body and attachments. If there is an error processing one of the emails I would like to download it again next time I connect to the account but since I only get new emails and the failed one was already downloaded I don't get it so I can try to process it again. I can do it this with any pop3 command or I have to store locally failed emails?

  Hi. I search solution for ticket managment system. Do you know any commercial offers? For now I have only own dev prjects with using dspam library. Maybe I am wrong use it but it show bad results. My idea was divide all prerated ticket in 2 group: spam (it is my category) and rest to (ham - all not the same with this category). After that i trained my dspam. After I redivide all tickets in new groups (for next category) and teach dspam again (with new user - by category name)... And it works bad... My thoughs about is - bad data base tickes (i mean not correct tagging before) - bad my algorythm (it is more posible) Please give me a direction to go forward. Thanks.   What's the best way to check if the view is visible on the window? I have a CustomView which is part of my SDK and anybody can add CustomView to their layouts. My CustomView is taking some actions when it is visible to the user periodically. So if view becomes invisible to the user then it needs to stop the timer and when it becomes visible again it should restart its course. But unfortunately there is no certain way of checking if my CustomView becomes visible or invisible to the user. There are few things that I can check and listen to: onVisibilityChange //it is for view's visibility change, and is introduced in new API 8 version so has backward compatibility issue onWindowVisibilityChange //but my CustomView can be part of a ViewFlipper's Views so it can pose issues onDetachedFromWindows //this not as useful onWindowFocusChanged //Again my CustomView can be part of ViewFlipper's views. So if anybody has faced this kind of issues please throw some light.

• How do I stop Safari from caching my Servlet response?

  I'm having trouble testing a web app with Safari. My app returns wave audio data. The problem happens when I change the application and hit it again from Safari. Safari caches the original response so no matter how many times I hit refresh it seems like I've not updated anything. I can almost get around this using force refresh with Firefox but because I'm having trouble generating the wave headers using the javax.sound API Firefox only plays the first second of audio returned. A few weeks ago I tried setting the HTTP header in my servlet to prevent caching but I don't think I was setting it correctly. (What is the header for browser cache control?) This is becoming a real pain and I'm looking for any ideas, comments, or alternative approaches. I'm getting ready to try again but I figured I'd ask here in the interim to see if someone can provide help.

  I need auto-logoff system in my application. if user not using the application more than thirty minutes.they should log in again. this is what i need. lastAccessTime should be lesser than 30 minutes. if lastAccessTime exceeds than 30 minutes user should login again with their credentials. (currently i auto log off using Lastaccesstime field in My user table (database) and compare lastaccesstime with current time for every page loads, I do not think this is right way.) is their any way to achieve?   I am in the process of designing a system where i need to keep on trying to connect to MQ server unitl i get a connection. By default if the MQ is not availlble it will thorugh exception. How can call the same method again and again until i get the connection. I know i can use recursion, is there any better way to do it . Becuase i would like to avoid infinite loops. I also want to wait the the furthere processing until i get connection. I am using .net 2.0 with C#. It is window Service application.

• Local Data Cache - How do I refresh the local db when I add fields to remote db?

  I'm using a Local Data Cache in an ASP.NET 3.5 environment. I made a change in my main database by adding a new field. I double click on my .SYNC file in my project to startup the Local Data Cache wizard again. The wizard starts and I click OK with the hopes that it'll re-query my database and add the new field to the local database file. Instead, I get an error saying "Synchronizing the databae failed with the message: Unable to enumerate changes at the DbServerSyncProvider..." The only way I know to get things working again is to delete the .SYNC file along with the local database and start it from scratch. There's got to be an easier way... anyone know it?

  hi guys, im working with the jquery ui draggable plugin and i have an html 5 video element with "preload controls" that acts kind of buggy. I $(".thumb").draggable(); if i drag the video by clicking on the video controls and i'm releasing the mouse again, the video still sticks with the mouse. <div class='thumb video'><video width='260' height='200' preload controls> i have no chance to release the video again if i started draggin it at the video controls. any idea how i could fix this! i probaply should script my own video controls to fix this.

  In WPF I have a few resource dictionaries and in them styles for my panels and controls in my app. I'm reusing the same colors again and again. I actually have 5 colors and they give my app a good color-scheme. However if I wan't to change the theme I have to go into the RD's and change each and every color there. I would like to somewhere have the colors set but don't know how or where. I tried to put a color tag in one RD but as soon as I referenced it in the same RD Visual Studio crashed. Also the best solution would be that I could have the color as a dynamic setting in the app itself so users could even change it themselves.

• iPhone app works hundreds of times, then crashes from memory error on startup, then never works unti

  I have a Cocos2d/openGL iPhone game. It's a universal app and I'm dealing with an occasional but nasty error on the iPad. We are loading a lot of textures up front (3 2048x2048 textures). I'm working on reducing this up front load, but what worries me is I really don't understand the root cause of this crash that permanently breaks the app. This is the deal: 1. App works fine for hundreds of plays on the iPad 2. Eventually (I'm guessing due to other programs using up some memory and not letting go or whatever) the app starts crashing on startup. It just closes again in the middle of loading. 3. The App will now never work again on that iPad, closing immediately every time, until the iPad is restarted. Obviously my app is demanding too much memory up front to work reliably every time, I get that. What I don't get is why when it fails once, it has failed forever until the iPad is restarted. Can anyone explain what is going on here? EDIT: forgot to add organizer crash lags just say low memory, like this every time (I changed my app name to MyAppName below). • Webbrowser control and cookies

  Hello! I have a webbrowser control in my program and what I want to do is to delete all the cookies stored in my computer. The problem is that for example I'm in some site, and then I decide I want to delete all the cookies, so I do it by the command "Kill()" but the problem is that the cookies remain and this site still can recognize me, and to complete the kill command I need to close my program and enter it again. The webbrowser control uses Internet Explorer, and I think when you enter IE it somehow loads all the cookies into it so if you delete your cookies, they remain there. So I'm wondering how can I delete my cookies, completely delete them without the need to close my program and enter it once again. Any help will be appreciated!
