• Part of the launcher has been cut off, Ubuntu 12.04

  After a hard drive failure on my iMac, I replaced it and installed Ubuntu. So far, I am finding it very easy to use, however there is one problem which is making it much harder. The bottom of the launcher is missing - it is 'covered' by the desktop background. This means that I cant see the trash, or bottom few icons. Even if I scroll, it doesn't show it. Any help is very much appreciated. If you send a message to [email protected], with the subject "launcher photo", I will send you an email with the photo of the missing part attached. Currently, my only fix is to enable and then disable the extra screen it thinks is there - called unknown device

• Can't save data for a member in a data form

  Implied sharing is an old thing everyone knows the reasons and solutions of that, still little theory about that: With Essbase implied sharing, some members are shared even if you do not explicitly set them as shared. These members are implied shared members. When an implied share relationship is created, each implied member assumes the other member’s value. Essbase assumes (or implies) a shared member relationship in these situations: 1. A parent has only one child 2. A parent has only one child that consolidates to the parent In a Planning form that contains members with an implied sharing relationship, when a value is added for the parent, the child assumes the same value after the form is saved. Likewise, if a value is added for the child, the parent usually assumes the same value after a form is saved.For example, when a calculation script or load rule populates an implied share member, the other implied share member assumes the value of the member populated by the calculation script or load rule. The last value calculated or imported takes precedence. The result is the same whether you refer to the parent or the child as a variable in a calculation script. A dynamic calc parent to a single child:  If we design the form with following selection: In the data form we will find parent below the member and this is by design whenever you make a selection using commands to select all the member below parent, always children will appear before the parent: Lets try to enter data, Save it Now, try to change the way we selected members Here we go: Now the question again why this behavior: 1. Data from Planning data form passes to Essbase row by row, 2. Because in data form the child member appears before the parent, 3. First, data goes to Essbase for child (SingleStoreChild), 4. Then when Planning passes the data for parent there was #Missing or No data,  5. Over writes the data to #missing. PS: As we know that dynamic calc members are calculated on the fly they are not allocated with any memory in the Essbase, here the parent was dynamic calc and it was pointing to same memory as child in the background, when Planning was passing data to Essbase for second row it has updated the child with missing data.(Little confusing, let me know if you need more explanation) 6. • How to check last changes in filesystem or directory with bash?

  After the system unmounted the root partition I detected that some files are missing in the filesystem. wifi and the gwibber icons disappeared from the indicator applet I want to check if there are other files missing using the ls program and the locate program, which woks on indexes of a previous state of the filesystem. Thus, locate '/usr/share/icons/*' | xargs ls -d 2>&1 >/dev/null serves for that purpose, and I can count the nonexistent files like this: locate '/usr/share/icons/*' | xargs ls -d 2>&1 >/dev/null | wc -l except for the case where filenames have blank spaces in them; and, not very surprisingly, that is the case with Ubuntu (OMG!! It is no longer "forbidden" like in good old times). If I use: locate '/usr/share/icons/*' | xargs -Iñ ls -d 'ñ' 2>&1 >/dev/null it is not working because there is some kind of interference in the syntax between the redirections of the standard outputs and the use of the parameter -I. Can anyone please help me with this syntax or giving another idea?

• Ubuntu 12.04 Asus Eee PC 1005 weird keyboard

  After upgrading to 12.04 on my netbook the keyboard got weird behaviour Before logging in to any session everything's OK (i tested the input in vt1) but as i log in with any session (unity or unity-2d) keyboard behaves as if Fn key was pressed (i got numbers and special symbols instead of normal chars. I think the problem may be in acpi support, but i don't know where to start exactly. I will appreciate any help =) P.S. Sorry for my english - I am not a native speaker =)

• Ripping MP3s in Rhythmbox Ubuntu 12.10 (64 bit)?

  I installed a couple of days ago Ubuntu 12.10 (64 bit). I today tried ripping a CD in the MP3 format. However, whenever I try to rip, it says it is missing an extra multimedia plugin "Gstreamer extra plug-ins (i386)". I then try to install the :i386 version of the gstreamer-ugly plugins, but then I get the same problem but with the id3-demuxer (or something similar) The Terminal output I get from both problems (but replace the "MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) encoder" with the "ID3-demuxer" name) is: james@clefairy:~$ rhythmbox (rhythmbox:24122): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed Rhythmbox-Message: Missing plugin: gstreamer|0.10|rhythmbox|MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) encoder|encoder-audio/mpeg, mpegversion=(int)1, layer=(int)3 /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gobject/constants.py:24: Warning: g_boxed_type_register_static: assertion `g_type_from_name (name) == 0' failed import gobject._gobject It doesn't help that each time I have to install/remove the entire Gstreamer-ugly collection each time - I can't find that specific file. The CD plays fine, it's the ripping plugin that doesn't seem to work. I didn't have this problem previously on 12.04 (64 bit).

• Cannot use apt-get anymore because of one specific package

  No matter what type of apt-get I run (install, update, ...) I always get: dpkg: warning: files list file for package `libgdata-google1.2-1' missing, assuming package has no files currently installed. dpkg: warning: files list file for package `libntlm0' missing, assuming package has no files currently installed. (Reading database ... 354644 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to replace libntlm0 1.1-1 (using .../libntlm0_1.1-1_i386.deb) ... Unpacking replacement libntlm0 ... At this point apt-get hang. Does somebody know a way to fix this? Some days ago a line in source.list was removed (Google Chrome).

• What's your worst open source experience?

  I recently tried downloading a pretty popular open source project [its got 10+ tags of different kinds on SO] which in turn depends on another open source project. The 2 projects built fine, but when it came to linking these 2 with my final executable there are like loads of missing symbols. No mention of which version of project 1 is compatible with project 2 etc. What's been your's most difficult open source experience? Mind you, I am all for open source but documentation and examples seem to be a key missing area.

• Google Analytics Export API - nextPagePath data

  I am probably missing something obvious, but I do not understand when I query: start.date = DATE_START, end.date = DATE_END, dimensions = c("ga:pagePath","ga:previousPagePath"), metrics = c("ga:pageviews"), filters = mypageofinterest, table.id = "ga:mytable", max.results=RESULTS my data return as expected, all of the previous pages including (entrance). However, when I modify the code to be nextPagePath start.date = DATE_START, end.date = DATE_END, dimensions = c("ga:pagePath","ga:nextPagePath"), metrics = c("ga:pageviews"), filters = mypageofinterest, table.id = "ga:mytable", max.results=RESULTS only one line of data are returned; the pagepath and nextpagepath are identical with itself. I replicated this result using the Query Explorer. What am I missing or doing wrong? I was expecting to see a large number of "next" pages, including (exit). Thanks in advance.

• Upgrade to 12.04, nothing in dash, no date&time

  I've upgraded from ubuntu netbook remix something to 12.04 lts, and I've got two issues. (Got an Asus eeePc 32bits, Intel 945GME x86/MMX/SSE2 and Intel Atom CPU N270 @ 1.6Ghz x2) Nothing in the dash. Only the "home" tab, other tabs are missing. No search result whatsoever. Missing elements in the system panel, privacy and date&time. No date&time on the right corner either. I've tried to reset unity with the terminal but the process was a whole mess full of errors. It did show date&time in the system panel (not on the top-right corner) while the process was going on in the terminal. But then it was such a mess (no more icons on the right corner amongst other things), and the process wouldn't complete: so I had to reboot the computer and get unity as before, still no date&time and privacy. • How can I have a Bluetooth Keyboard Auto-Connect at Startup?

  I have a bluetooth keyboard for my HTPC. I pair it with my computer via bluetooth, and it works fine. However, when I turn off the keyboard or my computer, it has to connect again (which requires me entering a passcode on the computer and keyboard) when I turn them back on. I've looked through many forums and through that I have found that I'm missing some seemingly vital bluetooth files: /etc/default/bluetooth /etc/init.d/bluetooth /etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf In the instructions that I've found online so far, I must change certain lines in any of these files. I am unable to, since they do not exist. Am I missing a dependency or something? I've also tried installing Blueman but that didn't help at all. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick). • Level Representation in a 2D Game

  I would like to create a 2D game, where a character should move on a stage/level. My stage would be static, constructed some little cubes, similar to the well-known Mario game: some of the elements should represent an element of the way where the character can step, but if the element is missing, the character should fall. My problem is, how to represent this programmatically? My first thought was to represent the stage with a vector, which should contain boolean elements, depending on the state of the element on the stage - if it's missing or not. But this means, I have to verify at my character's x or y position change if it has a stage element under or not (if not, to simulate the falling of the character) - I think it is not the best practice, it's not the beautiful solution. Can you help me with some advice, how to represent the stage?

• Failed GRUB after 10.04 to 12.04 upgrade in system with LVM

  I am using Ubuntu Server as a SMB server at work and two days ago I have tried to upgrade it to 12.04. After reboot, I got this grub_xput missing grub rescue> and all attempts to start from this prompt failed (missing components, although grub directory is normally set as prefix). My system sits and boots on an LVM (soft raid-5). I have read almost all posts in many forums, tried grub rescue, boot-repair, ubuntu-secure-remix with boot-repair but without positive result. This is the log of my last (and best so far) attempt to fix this system. Any suggestions? Please help.

• How to make the apt autocompletion work in minimal system (in LXC container)?

  When I work inside thin LXC container on 12.04 I have only very basic system. In particular the /etc/bash_completion.d is missing the e.g. apt, that I find particularly useful. Is there any standard package, that installs the autocompletion for the apt, or should I copy the file manually? And just copying the files into /etc/bash_completion.d manually just doesn't seem to work. I use bash as my command interpreter. What am I missing here?

  By inadvertance, I've created a file called -r into my home directory. Please don't ask me how and why, I don't recall. But the fact is that now I cannot get rid of it : rm -rf rm: missing operand Try 'rm --help' for more information. Other try : rm /-/r rm: cannot remove ‘/-/r’: No such file or directory Another one : rm \-r rm: missing operand Try 'rm --help' for more information. Is there a way to remove this file without deleting the whole directory ? Thanks.

• nvidia-package in 12.10 somehow not same like in 12.04 resp. X-lib not complete?

  Not knowing if this has to do with new kernel-update automatic done by ubuntu 12.10 ? it seems that kernel 3.2 in 12.04 has not these problems with nvidia-drivers ? I tried to install the actual google-earth as deb-package with dpkg -i it seems to be no problem, but when I type command: google-earth in terminal, there comes up the report among else: Xlib: extension "NV-GLX" missing on display ":0". Xlib is installed completely and nvidia-driver is de-installed (then reboot) then re-installed again. the report of google-earth stays the same: Xlib: extension "NV-GLX" missing on display ":0". ubuntu 12.04 was working quite good with google-earth. however: bumblebee seems to be taken out of program ? ( or needs to be re-edited ? ) Don't hurry too quick with solution, I can wait !

• desktop problems in 12.04

  I recently upgraded from 11.10 (i think that was the last version that was out) to 12.04 and ever since i have been unable to start my computer (hp pavillion dv2815nr) in the "normal" mode, but have had to start it using previous versions. Every time I go to start it, it has a plain red screen (which it does in the previous versions as well) and the desktop icons will not respond. Also, the task bar at top is essentially missing, only having a thin black line there, and also missing the icon bar that "pops out" when you scroll along the left side of the screen. Essentially, I'm locked out in normal mode. Nothing will respond.

  Materials and minutes from the JCP EC Face-to-Face Meeting, held September 2012 in Prague, are now available on the EC Meeting Summaries page.  Topics included JCP.Next, a JCP 2.8 progress report, Inactive JSRs, and two Spec Lead presentations. In October 2011, new EC Standing Rules went into effect. The Rules include the following: "Missing five meetings in a row, or missing more than two-thirds of all meetings in any consecutive twelve-month period, results in loss of EC membership."  Last week, the JCP EC met for their October EC teleconference meeting.  RIM missed this meeting, and has now missed five meetings in a row (see the attendance chart); therefore, RIM has forfeited their EC membership. Results from the 2012 EC Elections will be available on 30 October.  The new merged EC will go into effect on 12 November.

  I'm behind NAT, so I can't access pool.ntp.org or Ubuntu's own time servers directly, and I'd like to change the time servers for my system. When googling, I find references to missing manpages like ntpd.conf(5) and ntpd(8), to a missing GUI for setting the time servers, and to a cron script (/etc/cron.daily/ntpdate) that doesn't seem to exist on my system. I've also found a reference to there being changes to ntpd.conf, so I'm hesitant to just create that file in /etc. How is one supposed to change the time servers in 11.10?

• Accidently system timer speed up

  Laptop: Acer 5750zg I've found this issue in latest Ubuntu versions (13.04, 14.04) in all desktop environment. When I'm typing something in text field, randomly I get ~5..20 same symbols and everything speed up. It's happen few times per one minute and start from normal speed, slowly rising to super boost animation and other processes like CPU monitor, clock, window animation, etc. I think something wrong with system clock. Please help to figure out how to fix it.

• Why do some urls in Firefox change when copy / paste?

  This may not be a Firefox / Ubuntu specific issue. When I Copy / Paste a web link with _ and ( ) it is rendered as %20, %28, and %29. Yet in the Firefox URL these % symbols do not appear. The %20 is particularly weird because the _ itself does render in the URL: https://www.capitalsecuritybank.com/en/PDF/CSB_%20Account_%20Application_%20Form_%20%28Personal%29.pdf Can anyone explain why the URL is different when Copied / Pasted?

• Windows 7 Backup not backing up custom library?

  I have created a custom Library under Windows 7 64bit professional to handle my source code. When I tried Windows Backup and Restore for the first time I get the following error Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Source. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)) I've found a thread on the error on the Microsoft answers site. But it appears to be 404 (there is a version in Google's Cache) and the thread starter never gets an answer to his issue that works. The official Microsoft answer on this is This problem is due to one or more profiles under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList with missing ProfileImagePath. To check whether you have missing profiles: Open regedit, navigate to the above registry key. (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList). Expand the list Click on each of the profiles listed. The first 3 profiles should have ProfileImagePath value of %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\SystemProfile, %SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\LocalService, and %SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService respectively. Starting from the 4th profile, the ProfileImagePath should contain path to the user profiles on your machine, such as C:\users\Christine If one or more of the profile has no profile image, then you have missing profiles. To work around this, delete the profile in question (Caution: The registry contains critical settings that are necessary for your system to function properly. Take extra caution while making changes) First, export the ProfileList key for safekeeping. (Right click on the key, choose “Export”, and save it to the desktop.) Right click on the profile in question, choose delete. Try backup again. This does not work for me. Anyone have any idea what is going on here?
