  • Can't send email on AOL at work

    My AOL mail will not let me send anything out from a specific computer. I can send mail via Yahoo, Outlook Express or send AOL at home. This error occured after a netwrok server went down and we have not been able to fix it. Suggestions?

  • How can one undelete an accidentally deleted fan page?

Recently one of the other administrators accidentally deleted the Facebook fan page.   • Dreamweaver Delete Space to Word, Not Word

    There's a built in DW keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + Del) that deletes up to AND INCLUDING the first word to the right. I used to use the ColdFusion Studio app for coding and it would just remove the space UP TO the word (left the word or bracket, or whatever alone.) Any DW users know if this is a setting that can be changed? I'm really used to the old behavior and keep deleting the first word, hitting Ctrl + Z to put it back and then having to manually delete all the spaces to leave the word... Hoping one of you geniuses can help! Thanks, D.

    I have some huge xml text files. I need to write a script to find and print a specific tag only. I tried sed and grep but they both return the whole line. Using SunOS 5.x, so not all linux commands may work. grep -o is not available. The 'xml' file is not actually one huge xml document, but each line is a separate xml document, with just a few tags, not even nested. And the structure is fairly easy, so full xml parsers is not needed, and probably would not work. I was looking for sed, awk, or some other one liners, but could not get them to work, and they are both relatively new to me.

  • How does one get Vista to display .MOV thumbnails as a frame from the movie?

    I've discovered that Windows Vista explorer shell does not display proper "thumbnail"s for .MOV files. e.g. For .JPG files, the explorer shell, when in Thumbnail mode, displays a scaled down version of the image. But for .MOV files, it displays the same icon as in the non-thumbnail view, which is just some generic thing that shows you it's going to be played with Quicktime or whatever. What XP used to do was show you a frame from the actual movie as the thumbnail. I've looked on internet and found various proposed solutions, but none which actually work. Is there a simple step-by-step process for getting Vista to properly display thumbnails for .MOV files?

  • dell E6500 laptop will not hibernate/standby

    I am using a Dell E6500 laptop with windows XP on it, it was originally tagged/installed with Windows Vista. My issue is, when I close the lid, it will not either Hibernate or Standby. If I close the lid with either of these options, I then have to startup from scratch, and anything I had open is not open. I just want to close the lid, have it keep what I have running, not use power util I open the lid again and start it up (with the stuff still open I had open of course). Suggestions?

  • Using Python on Mac

    hi, i want to learn python using my mac. now i want to setup a python version = 3.1.3, because my materials for learning are using this version. typing python into terminal results version 2.6.1, using the dmg installer on python.org (http://docs.python.org/ftp/python/3.1.3/) doesn't have an effect on the python version in terminal, but it's bundled with an own shell under Applications/Python 3.1/Idle.app my question now is, should i use this shell for learing or is there a better way, updating the python version bundled with snow leopard? i already tried defaults write com.apple.versioner.python Version 3.1.3 or defaults write com.apple.versioner.python Version 3.0 without any result. thanks!

    How do I mount dynamic disk on new system without access to the old OS ? I need to move Dynamic data disk from old Windows XP (Pro, SP3) system, where disk crashed, to new Windows system without having access to the old OS. On new system, Dynamic disk shows as "Dynamic - Foreign". Microfoft has instructions for moving Dynamic Disk [1]. But Microsoft assumes having access to the old system. But I do not have acess to the old system. I am struck with "Dynamic - Foreign" static of the disk on new system.   • Performance hit with new hard drive?

    I've recently upgraded my laptop's internal hard drive from a 160GB to 1TB drive. I cloned the drive, then installed it. The general system performance seems appreciably slower. In particular application launches seem to take much longer. Is this possible, or am I just expecting too much from the new drive? It's running a Macbook Pro which is a couple of years old.     Which unix like environment do you prefer on Windows? I have found Cygwin to be very comfortable for a windows platform (usually XP). I am wondering if there is a better alternative (not because I want to move away from Cygwin). What are the features of Cygwin that you like OR, What are features you find in alternatives that you miss in Cygwin? I am often miss binary compatibility of applications built on Cygwin. These cannot be run directly on another Windows platform. But, usually fetching a copy of cygwin1.dll suffices. A collection of other tools many of which work directly on the Windows subsystem rather than emulating unix, like Cygwin does. What's more, memory usage is growing all the time. I've had to restart my server once a week, because once my 256mb fills up it starts swapping, which it wouldn't do just for disk cache. Shouldn't there be some way for me to see the culprit?! I'm new to server admin, so please if there's something obvious I'm overlooking point it out to me. But to do that I have to know the name of my drive, something like c7d0s0. Using the command zpool status can I see the harddrives already in use in my zpool but not the hard-drives that are not in use. How can I list the names of the hard-drives that are not in use in any zpool or list the name of all my hard-drives?

  • How does one calculate voltages for overclocking?

    So, all I know is voltage and clock have something to do with each other. Unstable if too low voltage Too high voltage, and too much heat. or higher voltage + lower clock may heat less than that voltage at higher clock. The reason why im asking is because if I can learn how the power vs speed works, Then i might be able to project some kind of thermal curve to find out where my perfect overclock might be (without 50 burn-ins) But, as is apparent im sure. How do I do this? BACKGROUND I have setup Firefox Sync on both devices and they have been synced. How do you sync them again? Is it automatically syncing them in the background? How often?     Looking for an easy way to postprocess rpm -q output so it reports the total size of all subpackages matching a regexp, e.g. see the aspell* example below. (Short of scripting it with Python/PERL/awk, which is the next step) (Motivation: I'm trying to remove a few Gb of unnecessary packages from a CentOS install, so I'm trying to track down things that are a) large b) unnecessary and c) not dependencies of anything useful like gnome.   • Bioshock2 installer is not running under windows 7 64bit

    When I try to install the Bioshock2 game under windows 7 64-bit i get the following error- "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher." I try to run it in compatibility mode (as XP and admin) I get the same error. I don't understand why it is giving me this error because if it is 32bit program then it should just run like other 32 bit application I have. And I am sure Bioshock2 is not a 16bit game. What can I do to run this program? It ran on Windows XP in the past.

  • Can I have both Windows dynamic disk partition and some other non-Windows partition on the same disk?

    When a basic Windows disk is converted to dynamic, Windows creates a partition that span the whole disk with the type of "Windows LVM" and manages its dynamic partitions within this space. So even if there is still free space on this disk, it is not visible to any other OS besides Windows. This happens with MBR and GPT disks both. I would like to share a Windows dynamic disk with some other OS. I have to have dynamic disks because I use Windows SoftRaid (mirrors). So, my questions are: Is there any way to "force" Windows to take up less then the whole disk when it converts a basic disk to dynamic? Will Windows tolerate having some other non-Windows partition on its dynamic disk?

  • can't listen to tips on bill Jelen podcast disc

    Hi all, appreciate any suggestions you can offer. Am using windows 7-64 bit--have the bill Jelen disc with his podcasts on it. Can open the disc, select the podcast I want to listen to -it shows up on my screen but there seems to be no place to click to have the podcast acutally start running. Have used this disc before with xp and windows-not 64- and had no problem- would just click on the podcast and it would start to play. Would try on my other computer that it worked on but that computer is dead. Any ideas?? thanks

But there is one thing that bothers me, which is my Mac partition volume is losing space slowly and gradually. I am pretty sure there are a lot of orphaned temporary files laying around in the volume. I know where to find the obsoleted temp files in my Windows partition, how about in Mac OSX?
