  • Strange behaviour with mediaplayer and seekTo

    - by Mathias Lin
    I'm implementing a custom video player because I need custom video controls. I have an app with only one activity, which on startup shall start playing a video right away. Now, the problem I have is: I don't want the video to start from the beginning, but from a later position. Therefore I do a seekTo(16867). Since seekTo is asynchronous, I place the start call of the mediaplayer (player.start()) in the onSeekComplete of the onSeekCompleteListener. The strange behaviour I experience though is that I can see/hear the video playing from the beginning for a few millisecs before it actually plays from/jumps to the position I seeked to. But - on the other hand - the Log output I call before the player.start returns the correct position 16867, where I seeked to. Below is the relevant code section, the complete class is at http://pastebin.com/jqAAFsuX (I'm on Nexus One / 2.2 StageFright) private void playVideo(String url) { try { btnVideoPause.setEnabled(false); if (player==null) { player=new MediaPlayer(); player.setScreenOnWhilePlaying(true); } else { player.stop(); player.reset(); } url = "/sdcard/myapp/main/videos/main.mp4"; // <--- just for test purposes hardcoded here now player.setDataSource(url); player.setDisplay(holder); player.setAudioStreamType(AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC); player.setOnCompletionListener(this); player.setOnPreparedListener(this); player.setOnSeekCompleteListener(new MediaPlayer.OnSeekCompleteListener() { public void onSeekComplete(MediaPlayer mediaPlayer) { Log.d("APP", "current pos... "+ player.getCurrentPosition() ); player.start(); // <------------------ start video on seek completed player.setOnSeekCompleteListener(null); } }); player.prepareAsync(); } catch (Throwable t) { Log.e(TAG, "Exception in btnVideoPause prep", t); } } public void onPrepared(MediaPlayer mediaplayer) { width=player.getVideoWidth(); height=player.getVideoHeight(); if (width!=0 && height!=0) { holder.setFixedSize(width, height); progressBar.setProgress(0); progressBar.setMax(player.getDuration()); player.seekTo(16867); // <------------------ seeking to position } btnVideoPause.setEnabled(true); }

  • How to partially update views in an app widget without rebuilding all the RemoteViews

    - by Gianni Costanzi
I'm implementing an app widget and I'd like to be able to change the property of a single view in the widget layout, without rebuilding all the RemoteViews from scratch, which involves loading XML etc and which is not necessary in some circumstances.. Is there a way to say "update property X on view identified by a specific ID in the current widget layout"? I've seen that there is a partiallyUpdateAppWidget method in the AppWidgetManager class but I can't understand nor if it is meant for this purpose neither how it must be used.. Can you help me or point me to a useful link or example?

  • Prevent an Activity from being killed by the OS while starting a child activity

    - by Martin Marinov
I have a main activity which calls a child one via Intent I = new Intent(this, Child.class); startActivityForResult(I, 0); But as soon as Child becomes visible the main activity gets its onStop and immediately after that onDestroy method triggered. And as soon as I call finish() within the Child activity or press the back button, the Child activity closes and the home screen shows (instead of the main activity). How can I prevent the main activity from being destroyed? :\

  • Retrieving and displaying a contact name from a contact id while using a SimpleCursorAdapter

    - by Henrique
I am storing information on the phone's contacts using a sqlite database. The fields I am storing are: _id, contact_id, body where _id is the row's id, contact_id is the phone contact's id and body is just a simple text which is the actual information I am storing. I'm using a SimpleCursorAdapter to map the data to the view, like so: Cursor cursor = database.fetchInformation(); // fetch info from DB String[] from = new String[] { CONTACT_ID, BODY }; int[] to = new int[] { R.id.contact, R.id.body }; SimpleCursorAdapter adapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.row, cursor, from, to); getListView().setAdapter(adapter); What I would actually want is to get the contact name that is associated with this CONTACT_ID, and have that be shown in the view. I can't seem to find a simple solution. I've tried implementing my own SimpleCursorAdapter and rewriting setViewText(TextView, String) but it didn't work. Also, it just seems overly complicated for such a simple task. Any help? Thanks.

  • Passing ArrayList<String> between tabs

    - by Christophe
Hi all, I'm not very clear about the Intent object and how to use it to pass data between Activities. In my application I have several tabs between which I want to pass ArrayList. Here is a sample code I plan to use, but I'm missing the part where the main activity catches the Intent and passes it to the new activity on start : 1. myTabs.java == This is where I think I need to add some code to pass the data between TabOne and TabTwo. For now it is just using the sample code of the TabActivity sample. public class myTabs extends TabActivity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); Resources res = getResources(); // Resource object to get Drawables TabHost tabHost = getTabHost(); // The activity TabHost TabHost.TabSpec spec; // Reusable TabSpec for each tab Intent intent; // Reusable Intent for each tab // Create an Intent to launch an Activity for the tab (to be reused) intent = new Intent().setClass(this, TabPeopleActivity.class); // Initialize a TabSpec for each tab and add it to the TabHost spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("TabOne").setIndicator("TabOne", res.getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_one)) .setContent(intent); tabHost.addTab(spec); // Do the same for the other tabs intent = new Intent().setClass(this, TabTransactionActivity.class); spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("TabTwo").setIndicator("TabTwo", res.getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_two)) .setContent(intent); tabHost.addTab(spec); tabHost.setCurrentTab(0); } } 2. TabOne.java == I added a piece of code in the onStop procedure to fill in the Intent data with the array I want to pass to TabTwo. Not sure it is the right way to do though. public class TabOne extends Activity { [...] private ArrayList<String> arrayPeople; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.tabone); arrayPeople = new ArrayList<String>(); [... here we modify arrayPeople ...] } /** Called when the activity looses focus **/ @Override public void onStop(){ Intent myIntent = new Intent(); myIntent.putStringArrayListExtra("arrayPeople", arrayPeople); this.setIntent(myIntent); } } 3. TabTwo.java == Here I am trying to fetch the ArrayList from the Intent that is supposed to be passed when the Activity starts. But how to do this? public class TabTwo extends Activity { private ArrayList<String> arrayPeople; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.transaction); Intent myIntent = new Intent(); myIntent = this.getIntent(); arrayPeople = myIntent.getStringArrayListExtra("arrayPeople"); } } Thanks for your ideas !

  • Exception when creating an activity: Could not select item Parcel unable to marshal value

    - by user341652
Hi, I am trying to call an Activity from another instance of the activity. The code is supposed to be a simple file browser (part of a larger application). I am using a ListActivity, and when an item (such as a folder) is selected, it is supposed to open it up in the new Activity. I have a feeling it is a problem with the AndroidManifest (which just has the basic tag). Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve

  • AVD properties for Motorola Flipout?

    - by kefs
I'm looking to create AVDs to test my apps on, and i'm trying to figure out the correct settings for a square screen such as the new Motorola Flip Out. I don't see a wikipedia article for it, or many specs... On a related note, what about tablets? Actually.. Why aren't there a set of AVD instances with params from popular devices.. or at least a site that lists them for each of the 60+ devices. Thanks in advance :)

  • getting the Contact's Birthday of a HTC Sense phone

    - by Pentium10
I am not sure, but probably HTC Sense does the following, syncs my Facebook contacts to my phone along with their mobile number and their birthday. This shows well in the agenda and the user panel. But as it turns out it doesn't use the standard SDK way to store the birthdays. As if I use the following code to get the birthday of a contact it returns NO data for those contacts. public String getBirthday() { if (data.containsKey(BIRTHDAY)) { return CRUtils.getString(data, BIRTHDAY); } else { // read birthday Cursor c = ctx.getContentResolver() .query( Data.CONTENT_URI, new String[] { Event.DATA }, Data.CONTACT_ID + "=" + this.getId() + " AND " + Data.MIMETYPE + "= '" + Event.CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE + "' AND " + Event.TYPE + "=" + Event.TYPE_BIRTHDAY, null, null); if (c != null) { try { if (c.moveToFirst()) { String s = c.getString(0); this.setBirthday(s); return s; } } finally { c.close(); } } return ""; } } How can I fix this?

  • Show Alertdialog and use vibrator

    - by user1007522
I'm having a class that implements RecognitionListener like this: public class listener implements RecognitionListener I wanted to show a alertdialog and use the vibrator but this isn't possible because I need to provide a context what I don't have. My alertdialog code was like this: new AlertDialog.Builder(this) .setTitle("dd") .setMessage("aa") .setNeutralButton("Ok", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) { } }) .show(); But the AlertDialog.Builder(this) wants a context, the same problem with my vibrator code: v = (Vibrator) getSystemService(Context.VIBRATOR_SERVICE); The getSystemService method isn't available. My code that starts the class: sr = SpeechRecognizer.createSpeechRecognizer(this); sr.setRecognitionListener(new listener()); Intent intent = new Intent(RecognizerIntent.ACTION_RECOGNIZE_SPEECH); intent.putExtra(RecognizerIntent.EXTRA_LANGUAGE_MODEL,RecognizerIntent.LANGUAGE_MODEL_FREE_FORM); intent.putExtra(RecognizerIntent.EXTRA_CALLING_PACKAGE,"voice.recognition.test"); intent.putExtra(RecognizerIntent.EXTRA_MAX_RESULTS,5); sr.startListening(intent); Whats the best way to solve this?

  • OnTouch event consumes click event and prevents execution in parent

    - by Taig
I'm having a FrameLayout that has an extended ImageView (github) as a child. When I set an onClick()-Event to the FrameLayout it won't be triggered. The reason appears to be the onTouch() method's return value. If I set the ACTION_DOWN's return value to false the event is passed along properly - but then the Multitouch functionalities break. Also running performClick() in the ACTION_UP event comes to nothing. How to handle those events correctly?

  • Clickable TextView in Android

    - by Cris
i'm building an Android App that has many many TextView that i want to be clickable. I've tried to assign to the single TextView the properties android:clickable="true" and android:onClick="clickHandler" and when the app fires the clickHandler(View v) i correctly get, through the v.getId(), the clicked item. What i don't like is to define, for every TextView, the properties android:clickable and android:onClick ... is there something that i can do by code to say: "all the textviews are clickable and click is handled in 'clickHandler' ?" Thanks and greetings c

  • I can not get the text from a selected item in a listview...pleeeeasss help.

    - by Miguel
    I always get an ClassCastException error... i do not what else to do... - I'm using a data biding concept to populated the listview from a sqlite3 database. - I just want to get the selected item text after a long press click. This is the code of the activity: public class ItemConsultaGastos extends ListActivity { private DataHelper dh ; TextView seleccion; private static String[] FROM = {DataHelper.MES, DataHelper.ANO}; private static int[] TO = {R.id.columnaMes, R.id.columnaAno }; public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.muestrafechas); this.dh = new DataHelper(this); Cursor cursor = dh.selectAllMeses(); startManagingCursor(cursor); this.mostrarFechas(cursor); ListView lv = getListView(); lv.setOnItemLongClickListener(new OnItemLongClickListener(){ @Override public boolean onItemLongClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1,int row, long arg3) { //here is where i got the classCastException. String[] tmp = (String[]) arg0.getItemAtPosition(row); //tmp[0] ist the Text of the first TextView displayed by the clicked ListItem Log.w("Gastos: ", "El texto: " + tmp[0].toString()); return true; } }); } private void mostrarFechas(Cursor cursor) { SimpleCursorAdapter adapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this,R.layout.muestrafechasitem,cursor, FROM, TO); setListAdapter(adapter); } } ///// This is the xml where a define the rows to show on the listview <TextView android:id="@+id/espacio" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text=" " /> <TextView android:id="@+id/columnaAno" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textSize="20sp" android:layout_toRightOf="@+id/espacio"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/separador1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text=" -- " android:layout_toRightOf="@+id/columnaAno" android:textSize="20sp" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/columnaMes" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_toRightOf="@+id/separador1" android:textSize="20sp"/>

  • getView() in CountDownTimer's onTick return sometimes null

    - by HexWrench
I had recently a crash report where I could see that in the CountDownTimer's onTick method the getView() call returns null. I use the onTick method to display the remaining time in a textView. The textView is inside a Fragment. Since the CountDownTimer runs in the UI thread I have no idea why this had happened. What could be the cause for this and what is a possible workaround for this problem? Thanks!

  • ViewPager resize height to Content

    - by user1324936
    ViewPager does not wrap its height to its content. For my layout I need to set the hight then dynamically because it is nested in other layouts. Therefore I created a ScrollView as content of the ViewPager and check its height in onCreate method of the Fragment, but the ScrollView has always the same size. How can I resize the ViewPager to fit to its content? final ScrollView sv = (ScrollView) v.findViewById(R.id.sv); ViewTreeObserver vto = scrollViewMenuFragen.getViewTreeObserver(); vto.addOnGlobalLayoutListener(new OnGlobalLayoutListener() { @Override public void onGlobalLayout() { int height = sv.getMeasuredHeight(); //always same height independent of content height //need to resize ViewPager ViewGroup.LayoutParams params = (ViewGroup.LayoutParams) mPager.getLayoutParams(); params.height = height; mPager.setLayoutParams(params); } });

  • Is it possible to dither a gradient drawable?

    - by Seu
I'm using the following drawable: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:shape="rectangle" > <gradient android:startColor="@color/content_background_gradient_start" android:endColor="@color/content_background_gradient_end" android:angle="270" /> </shape> The problem is that I get severe banding on hdpi devices (like the Nexus One and Droid) since the gradient goes from the top of the screen to the very bottom. According to http://idunnolol.com/android/drawables.html#shape_gradient there isn't a "dither" attribute for a gradient. Is there anything I can do to smooth the gradient?

  • Getting camera preview data without using a preview callback

    - by velocipedestrian
I have an app that does some processing to camera preview frames before displaying them to the user. I'm currently using preview callbacks to access the image data, but the problem I have is that the onPreviewFrame() function stops getting called if you start recording video using a MediaRecorder, and I want the processing to continue when video is being recorded. I've tried doing the following: public static Bitmap convertViewToBitmap(View view) { Bitmap bitmap = Bitmap.createBitmap(view.getWidth(),view.getHeight(), Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888); view.draw(new Canvas(bitmap)); return bitmap; } to convert the preview surface to a bitmap, but when I pass the preview SurfaceView to the function it returns an all-black bitmap (it works when I test it on normal views though). Is there any other way I can access the image data if preview callbacks are not available?

  • sherlock actionbar menu

    - by user1647443
    I am trying to setup a menu programatically and my method gets com.actionbarsherlock.view.Menu menu as a parameter. As I want to change the styling of the menu item I am trying to setup a SpannableString spannable and pass it to add. menu.add(0, MENU_ABOUT, 0, spannable); This is causing a crash only in ICS when I cick that menu item. Any ideas if I am missing something. Thanks Here is the code I am trying and it crashes when I run the app and select "About Application". FYI, I am using SpannableString because I want to add some styling and color to the menu item. The crash does NOT happen if I use a regular string, but then I cant do styling public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(com.actionbarsherlock.view.Menu menu) { SpannableString spannable = new SpannableString("About Application"); menu.add(0, MENU_ABOUT, 0, spannable); return true; } Here is the stack trace: 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid payload item type 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.util.EventLog.writeEvent(Native Method) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.app.Activity.onMenuItemSelected(Activity.java:2501) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.support.v4.app.FragmentActivity.onMenuItemSelected(FragmentActivity.java:351) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow.onMenuItemSelected(PhoneWindow.java:950) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at com.android.internal.view.menu.MenuBuilder.dispatchMenuItemSelected(MenuBuilder.java:735) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at com.android.internal.view.menu.MenuItemImpl.invoke(MenuItemImpl.java:149) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at com.android.internal.view.menu.MenuBuilder.performItemAction(MenuBuilder.java:874) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at com.android.internal.view.menu.ListMenuPresenter.onItemClick(ListMenuPresenter.java:163) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.widget.AdapterView.performItemClick(AdapterView.java:292) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.widget.AbsListView.performItemClick(AbsListView.java:1058) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.widget.AbsListView$PerformClick.run(AbsListView.java:2514) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.widget.AbsListView.onTouchEvent(AbsListView.java:3180) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.view.View.dispatchTouchEvent(View.java:5541) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTransformedTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:1951) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:1712) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTransformedTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:1957) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:1726) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.dispatchTouchEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1860) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.view.View.dispatchPointerEvent(View.java:5721) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.view.ViewRootImpl.deliverPointerEvent(ViewRootImpl.java:2890) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.view.ViewRootImpl.handleMessage(ViewRootImpl.java:2466) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.view.ViewRootImpl.processInputEvents(ViewRootImpl.java:845) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.view.ViewRootImpl.handleMessage(ViewRootImpl.java:2475) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:137) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4424) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:511) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:784) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:551) 09-05 02:25:32.849: E/AndroidRuntime(684): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) Thanks

  • How can I specify a dynamic height for an ImageView?

    - by kefs
I have an ImageView at the top of my display that looks like the following: +----------------------------------------------+ ¦ ImageView +--------------+ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ Actual image ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ +--------------+ ¦ +----------------------------------------------+ Below this, I have a series of Buttons and TextViews.. I would like the ImageView's height to dynamically increase depending on the max height of the screen. I'm aligning the layout containing the buttons along the bottom of edge of the screen, and I would like the rest of the screen taken up by the above ImageView. Also, since the ImageView contains a centered image, I would also like to set min height, and a scrollbar if the screen is too small to display the imageview and the buttons below. Thanks! Is this possible?

  • "No XML content. Please add a root view or layout to your document."

    - by ez4nick
I am trying to follow this tutorial : http://developer.android.com/training/basics/firstapp/building-ui.html as I am new to android developing and this is what my "activity_main.xml" file looks like : <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="horizontal"> <EditText android:id="@+id/edit_message" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_width="0dp" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:hint="@string/edit_message" /> <Button android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="@string/button_send" /> When I click run I get an error that says "No XML content. Please add a root view or layout to your document." and I noticed there is a new file generated called "activity_main.out.xml". What could I be doing wrong?

  • When I debug my application I get frequently Launch error: Failed to connect to remote VM

    - by Pentium10
When I debug my application I get frequently Launch error: Failed to connect to remote VM even If I try again it doesn't help, I need to restart Eclipse. Edit Not sure yet fully if the symptoms have to do with the fact that I get this error only when I launch Debug without a code modification. Whenever I do a modification to the source code and hit Debug it goes through, but if I don't it doesn't.

  • EGL initialized failed

    - by aquatear
Hello Everybody, I used a SurfaceView and EGL to render my 3D contents. When I press BACK and return my activity, the activity's 3D objects become to white. The reason is when the original activity(3D activity) resume, EGL would initialize again. So EGL would initialize and destroy everytime when different activities switch. I am not sure if the problem is EGL initialize twice... but I did initialize and destroy EGL correctly. Anybody have this problem ? Have any solutions about this ?? Thank you so much
