  • Django: Grouping by Dates and Servers

    - by TheLizardKing
So I am trying to emulate google app's status page: http://www.google.com/appsstatus#hl=en but for backups for our own servers. Instead of service names on the left it'll be server names but the dates and hopefully the pagination will be there too. My models look incredibly similar to this: from django.db import models STATUS_CHOICES = ( ('UN', 'Unknown'), ('NI', 'No Issue'), ('IS', 'Issue'), ('NR', 'Not Running'), ) class Server(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=32) def __unicode__(self): return self.name class Backup(models.Model): server = models.ForeignKey(Server) created = models.DateField(auto_now_add=True) modified = models.DateTimeField(auto_now=True) status = models.CharField(max_length=2, choices=STATUS_CHOICES, default='UN') issue = models.TextField(blank=True) def __unicode__(self): return u'%s: %s' % (self.server, self.get_status_display()) My issue is that I am having a hell of a time displaying the information I need. Everyday a little after midnight a cron job will run and add a row for each server for that day, defaulting on status unknown (UN). My backups.html: {% extends "base.html" %} {% block content %} <table> <tr> <th>Name</th> {% for server in servers %} <th>{{ created }}</th> </tr> <tr> <td>{{ server.name }}</td> {% for backup in server.backup_set.all %} <td>{{ backup.get_status_display }}</td> {% endfor %} </tr> {% endfor %} </table> {% endblock content %} This actually works but I do not know how to get the dates to show. Obviously {{ created }} doesn't do anything but the servers don't have create dates. Backups do and because it's a cron job there should only be X number of rows with any particular date (depending on how many servers we are following for that day). Summary I want to create a table, X being server names, Y being dates starting at today while all the cells being the status of a backup. The above model and template should hopefully give you an idea what my thought process but I am willing to alter anything. Basically I am create a fancy excel spreadsheet.

  • Apache mod_proxy, how to forward request into local network ip(server)

    - by Beck
Can't figure out, how to configure mod_proxy for this. I have two domains, one is working fine at the moment. Second is bind to the same ip. I need to forward requests from second domain to another server in local network. like that: domain1.com => 192.168.1.101 domain2.com => 192.168.1.102 What configuration or directives i should use? Thanks ;) Update <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName www.domain2.com ProxyRequests Off ProxyPreserveHost On <Proxy *> Order deny, allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPass / http://192.168.1.103:8080/ ProxyPassReverse / http://192.168.1.103:8080/ </VirtualHost> It just doesn't redirect to second server. That's it. And when i restart apache, it says something with overlapping 80 port. [warn] _default_ VirtualHost overlap on port 80, the first has precedence

  • Changing Passwords Over Multiple Servers and Services

    - by tesmar
Hi all, I am looking to automate the changing of passwords across multiple services and servers. For example: I want to change the root paassword to all of my web servers at once. I am thinking of writing a ruby script, but have you guys run across anything already written? If so, would that also give me the ability to change other system passwords like Database passwords and SVN passwords.

  • SFTP, SCP, Secure Webdav: which is the most suitable ?

    - by Xavier Maillard
Hi, currently, I am hosting a webdav share setup in order to store files I need anywhere I am. It is available via HTTPS. Things are that I do not need all the HTTP machinery -i.e. my nginx http server is only there for this webdav folder. I am not sure I made the best choice. My requirements on the client side are: secured transfers mountable as a network drive at work with 'near realtime sync' usable for any OS I could use (including my mobile (android)) At first, I chose webdav since it would pass through my work proxy (which refuses all that is not on HTTP/S (port 80 or 443)). Today, I am not satisfied with the setup and even if nginx memory footprint is pretty small, its webdav support is not really "clean" and full. What would you recommend between SFTP, SCP and the current webdav solution ? I think SFTP is the closest solution but I still have to find out how to pass through my proxy ;) SCP seems quite limited as I read about it (only file transfers if I read right). Cheers

  • Communication between multiple servers

    - by someguy
How could a network of servers communicate with each other? For example, if Client A connects to Server A, how would the other servers be informed of this? I'm guessing you would need a "central" server, but how would it be implemented? I'm really dumbfounded on this, so any help would be nice :)

  • Apache forwarding to tomcat shows a blank page

    - by MNS
I have an application running on tomcat at http ://www.example.com:9090/mycontext. The host name in server.xml points to www .example.com. I do not have localhost anymore. I am using apache to forward requests to tomcat using mod_proxy. Things work fine as long as the ProxyPath is /mycontext. The server name setup in virtual host is www .abc.com and http ://www.abc.com/mycontext works fine. However I would like to ignore the context path and simply use http://www.abc.com/ to forward requests to http://www.example.com:9090/mycontext. When I do this, apache shows me a blank page. What am I missing here? I have not changed anything in server.xml except the default host to www .example.com. <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName www.abc.com ProxyRequests Off ProxyPreserveHost On <Proxy *> Order deny, allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPass / http://www.example.com:9090/mycontext ProxyPassReverse / http://www.example.com:9090/mycontext </VirtualHost> Thanks

  • Splitting an HTTP request into multiple byte-range requests

    - by redpola
I have arrived at the unusual situation of having two completely independent Internet connections to my home. This has the advantage of redundancy etc but the drawback that both connections max out at about 6Mb/s. So one individual outbound http request is directed by my "intelligent gateway" (TP-LINK ER6120) out over one or the other connection for its lifetime. This works fine over complex web pages and utilises both external connects fine. However, single-http-request downloads are limited to the maximum rate of one of the two connections. So I'm thinking, surely I can setup some kind of proxy server to direct all my http requests to. For each incoming http request, the proxy server will issue multiple byte-range requests for the desired data and manage the reassembly and delivery of that data to the client's request. I can see this has some overhead, and also some edge cases where there will be blocking problems waiting for data. I also imagine webmasters of single-servers would rather I didn't hit them with 8 byte-range requests instead of one request. How can I achieve this http request deconstruct/reconstruction? Or am I just barking mad?

  • How do you permanently disable the 'This Connection is Untrusted' page on Firefox

    - by TheIronChef9
I'm going insane. Can someone please help me to COMPLETELY DISABLE the 'This Connection is Untrusted' page on Firefox. Facts: I am running Firefox 23.0 on an Ubuntu machine (downloaded and installed ubuntu today) It is a work computer and I have to use my employer's proxy While visiting Webpages/webapps like Gmail or Google brings up the 'This Connection is Untrusted' page and I have to go through the whole tedious task of selecting 'I understand the Risks' and add Exceptions, etc. etc. The fact is, I don't care about the risks. I would rather this computer melt into the ground than have to see that page ever again. I want to dance naked in untrusted pages and not give a damn about the consequences. I just never want to see that page again. Ever. For some sites (eg. wikipedia), the css doesn't load and I end up seeing them in plain text. As a result these sites are completely useless. Wasted hours trying to solve this for stackoverflow.com. These issues happen on the Firefox on my Windows XP machine as well (also using the same proxy). I don't want to export/import certificates or create exceptions for every site that shows this bloody page. I just want this page gone. I don't want Firefox to tell me what's safe and what's not. Also, my system time and date are correct. I've also tried the lies on this page too with no good results. Edit: I've also tried the whole going into the Advance-Certificates-validation setup page and unchecked 'Use the Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) to confirm the current validity of certificates' checkbox. Nothing happened even after restarting firefox or rebooting. I need help. Thanks.

  • mod_rewrite with AJAX applictions: possible?

    - by MrJackV
I am trying to run Shell In a Box (link) through another server (the computer running shellinabox is not accessible from the internet) . Ideally I could use ProxyPass in the Apache config to have a reverse proxy. Problem is I can't access the conf file. So I tried using .htaccess and I discover that I cannot use ProxyPass in there. So I tried and used mod_rewrite to do the job. Currently I have the following on the .htaccess file RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^$ http://10.1.13.236:4200/ [P] However while it displays the title correctly and if I open up the source code I can see there is something in the page, nothing is diplayed on the screen (it remains blank). My suspicion is that there are problems with AJAX and this kind of proxy. What I am trying to accomplish with the mod_rewrite as close as possible behaviour to ProxyPass (Mirorr a website in a subdirectory). Is this possible? Is there some other solution (I tried phproxy and khproxy but neither of them is able to display anything)? Thanks in advance

  • Empty $upstream_http_location variable if response was cached

    - by Ivaldi
    I would like to cache the response of an redirect. (Cache the request to some site which returns a redirect and cache the second request which returns the actual content.) So far my config looks like this: location = /proxy { error_page 301 302 307 = @redir; resolver 8.8.8.8; proxy_pass $arg_url; proxy_intercept_errors on; proxy_cache pcache; proxy_cache_key $arg_url; proxy_cache_valid 200 301 302 307 1d; proxy_cache_min_uses 1; proxy_ignore_client_abort on; proxy_ignore_headers Set-Cookie Expires Cache-Control; } location @redir { resolver 8.8.8.8; # we need to assign $upstream_http_location to another var in order to use it with proxy_pass set $target $upstream_http_location; proxy_pass $target; proxy_cache predirects; proxy_cache_key $upstream_http_location; proxy_cache_valid 200 301 302 307 1d; proxy_cache_min_uses 1; proxy_ignore_headers Set-Cookie Expires Cache-Control; } It works for the first request or without the 30x codes for proxy_cache_valid in the /proxy part, but $target and $upstream_http_location are empty, if the response was cached. Is there a nice solution to cache both requests? Thanks!

  • Sending messages between two Python servers

    - by Will
I have two servers - one Django, the other likely to be written in Python - and one is putting 'tasks' into a database and another is processing these tasks. They share a database, but I want the processor to react quickly to new tasks rather than polling periodically. Are there any straightforward ways for two Python servers to talk to one another, or does the task processor have to have web-hooks or something? It feels there ought to be a blessed way to do this...

  • Following the Thread in OSB

    - by Antony Reynolds
Threading in OSB The Scenario I recently led an OSB POC where we needed to get high throughput from an OSB pipeline that had the following logic: 1. Receive Request 2. Send Request to External System 3. If Response has a particular value   3.1 Modify Request   3.2 Resend Request to External System 4. Send Response back to Requestor All looks very straightforward and no nasty wrinkles along the way.  The flow was implemented in OSB as follows (see diagram for more details): Proxy Service to Receive Request and Send Response Request Pipeline   Copies Original Request for use in step 3 Route Node   Sends Request to External System exposed as a Business Service Response Pipeline   Checks Response to Check If Request Needs to Be Resubmitted Modify Request Callout to External System (same Business Service as Route Node) The Proxy and the Business Service were each assigned their own Work Manager, effectively giving each of them their own thread pool. The Surprise Imagine our surprise when, on stressing the system we saw it lock up, with large numbers of blocked threads.  The reason for the lock up is due to some subtleties in the OSB thread model which is the topic of this post.   Basic Thread Model OSB goes to great lengths to avoid holding on to threads.  Lets start by looking at how how OSB deals with a simple request/response routing to a business service in a route node. Most Business Services are implemented by OSB in two parts.  The first part uses the request thread to send the request to the target.  In the diagram this is represented by the thread T1.  After sending the request to the target (the Business Service in our diagram) the request thread is released back to whatever pool it came from.  A multiplexor (muxer) is used to wait for the response.  When the response is received the muxer hands off the response to a new thread that is used to execute the response pipeline, this is represented in the diagram by T2. OSB allows you to assign different Work Managers and hence different thread pools to each Proxy Service and Business Service.  In out example we have the “Proxy Service Work Manager” assigned to the Proxy Service and the “Business Service Work Manager” assigned to the Business Service.  Note that the Business Service Work Manager is only used to assign the thread to process the response, it is never used to process the request. This architecture means that while waiting for a response from a business service there are no threads in use, which makes for better scalability in terms of thread usage. First Wrinkle Note that if the Proxy and the Business Service both use the same Work Manager then there is potential for starvation.  For example: Request Pipeline makes a blocking callout, say to perform a database read. Business Service response tries to allocate a thread from thread pool but all threads are blocked in the database read. New requests arrive and contend with responses arriving for the available threads. Similar problems can occur if the response pipeline blocks for some reason, maybe a database update for example. Solution The solution to this is to make sure that the Proxy and Business Service use different Work Managers so that they do not contend with each other for threads. Do Nothing Route Thread Model So what happens if there is no route node?  In this case OSB just echoes the Request message as a Response message, but what happens to the threads?  OSB still uses a separate thread for the response, but in this case the Work Manager used is the Default Work Manager. So this is really a special case of the Basic Thread Model discussed above, except that the response pipeline will always execute on the Default Work Manager.   Proxy Chaining Thread Model So what happens when the route node is actually calling a Proxy Service rather than a Business Service, does the second Proxy Service use its own Thread or does it re-use the thread of the original Request Pipeline? Well as you can see from the diagram when a route node calls another proxy service then the original Work Manager is used for both request pipelines.  Similarly the response pipeline uses the Work Manager associated with the ultimate Business Service invoked via a Route Node.  This actually fits in with the earlier description I gave about Business Services and by extension Route Nodes they “… uses the request thread to send the request to the target”. Call Out Threading Model So what happens when you make a Service Callout to a Business Service from within a pipeline.  The documentation says that “The pipeline processor will block the thread until the response arrives asynchronously” when using a Service Callout.  What this means is that the target Business Service is called using the pipeline thread but the response is also handled by the pipeline thread.  This implies that the pipeline thread blocks waiting for a response.  It is the handling of this response that behaves in an unexpected way. When a Business Service is called via a Service Callout, the calling thread is suspended after sending the request, but unlike the Route Node case the thread is not released, it waits for the response.  The muxer uses the Business Service Work Manager to allocate a thread to process the response, but in this case processing the response means getting the response and notifying the blocked pipeline thread that the response is available.  The original pipeline thread can then continue to process the response. Second Wrinkle This leads to an unfortunate wrinkle.  If the Business Service is using the same Work Manager as the Pipeline then it is possible for starvation or a deadlock to occur.  The scenario is as follows: Pipeline makes a Callout and the thread is suspended but still allocated Multiple Pipeline instances using the same Work Manager are in this state (common for a system under load) Response comes back but all Work Manager threads are allocated to blocked pipelines. Response cannot be processed and so pipeline threads never unblock – deadlock! Solution The solution to this is to make sure that any Business Services used by a Callout in a pipeline use a different Work Manager to the pipeline itself. The Solution to My Problem Looking back at my original workflow we see that the same Business Service is called twice, once in a Routing Node and once in a Response Pipeline Callout.  This was what was causing my problem because the response pipeline was using the Business Service Work Manager, but the Service Callout wanted to use the same Work Manager to handle the responses and so eventually my Response Pipeline hogged all the available threads so no responses could be processed. The solution was to create a second Business Service pointing to the same location as the original Business Service, the only difference was to assign a different Work Manager to this Business Service.  This ensured that when the Service Callout completed there were always threads available to process the response because the response processing from the Service Callout had its own dedicated Work Manager. Summary Request Pipeline Executes on Proxy Work Manager (WM) Thread so limited by setting of that WM.  If no WM specified then uses WLS default WM. Route Node Request sent using Proxy WM Thread Proxy WM Thread is released before getting response Muxer is used to handle response Muxer hands off response to Business Service (BS) WM Response Pipeline Executes on Routed Business Service WM Thread so limited by setting of that WM.  If no WM specified then uses WLS default WM. No Route Node (Echo functionality) Proxy WM thread released New thread from the default WM used for response pipeline Service Callout Request sent using proxy pipeline thread Proxy thread is suspended (not released) until the response comes back Notification of response handled by BS WM thread so limited by setting of that WM.  If no WM specified then uses WLS default WM. Note this is a very short lived use of the thread After notification by callout BS WM thread that thread is released and execution continues on the original pipeline thread. Route/Callout to Proxy Service Request Pipeline of callee executes on requestor thread Response Pipeline of caller executes on response thread of requested proxy Throttling Request message may be queued if limit reached. Requesting thread is released (route node) or suspended (callout) So what this means is that you may get deadlocks caused by thread starvation if you use the same thread pool for the business service in a route node and the business service in a callout from the response pipeline because the callout will need a notification thread from the same thread pool as the response pipeline.  This was the problem we were having. You get a similar problem if you use the same work manager for the proxy request pipeline and a business service callout from that request pipeline. It also means you may want to have different work managers for the proxy and business service in the route node. Basically you need to think carefully about how threading impacts your proxy services. References Thanks to Jay Kasi, Gerald Nunn and Deb Ayers for helping to explain this to me.  Any errors are my own and not theirs.  Also thanks to my colleagues Milind Pandit and Prasad Bopardikar who travelled this road with me. • Subversion and Quickbooks Files

    - by Jorge Fernandez
I currently have a large problem on one of the file servers I manage for an Accounting Firm. Quickbooks has a tendency to create multiple files of the same thing over and over to prevent data loss. This is a good thing when you handle just a few files. But at an accounting firm it becomes a problem. Some of the older clients have 5-10 files in their respective folders, each with a different cut off date. Because of user error some of these file aren't labeled properly with their correct cutoff dates. This is where Subversion came to mind. Using the revision system would allow for 1 file to be master and have all of its revisions. Has anyone ever tried this with Quickbooks files? I've only used SVN with code for applications making each file size much smaller. How does SVN stand up with larger files like 10-25MB? I'm not exactly sure how SVN handles revisions - does it keep a duplicate of the files and duplicates the disk space space needed?

  • Running multiple services on different servers with IPv6 and a FQDN

    - by Mark Henderson
One of the things NAT has permitted us to do in the past decade is split physical services onto different servers whilst hiding behind a single interface. For example, I have example.com behind a NAT on 192.0.2.10. I port-forward :80 and :443 to my web server. I'm also port forward :25 to my mail server, and :3389 to a terminal server and :8080 to the web interface of my computer that downloads torrents, and the story goes on. So I have 5 port forwardings going to 4 different computers on example.com. Then, I go and get me some neat IPv6. I assign example.com an IPv6 address of 2001:db8:88:200::10. That's great for my websites, but I want to go to example.com:8080 to get to my torrents, or example:3389 to log on to my terminal server. How can I do this with IPv6, as there is no NAT. Sure, I could create a bunch of new DNS entries for each new service, but then I have to update all my clients who are used to just typing example.com to get to either the website or the terminal server. My users are dumber than two bricks so they won't remember to connect to rdp.example.com. What options do I have for keeping NAT-style functionality with IPv6? In case you haven't figured it out, the above scenario is not a real scenario for me, or perhaps anyone yet, but it's bound to happen eventually. You know, with devops and all.

  • Domain authentication over OPEN wireless pre-logon (Windows 7 Pro) - No logon servers avail

    - by Shadow00Caster
I have a plethora of laptops that are joined to an AD domain. I have an enterprise wireless system setup, the users of these laptops will be using an OPEN unsecured SSID which will ultimately have a captive portal that uses Radius-AD auth and firewall rules to allow access pre-captive portal auth to the proper ip's/ports of DC's etc for auth etc. I already have other laptops/users connecting to another SSID with 802.11x and SSO, all works perfectly pre-logon etc. My problem is with this open network, for some reason I cannot get the machines to auth to AD. The laptops connect to the wireless network, I confirm this on the controller and can ping the laptop at startup. I sharked the wires on the 2 DC's that these machines auth to, I can see a DNS SOA update from a laptop im testing with and can ping that test laptop from both DC's. When I try to logon, "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request." The shark shows no incoming connections to either DC even though the laptop is connected and pingable. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • How to restrict zone transfers to specific authorized servers only

    - by JonoB
I recently failed a PCI compliance scan because of the following: This DNS server allows unrestricted zone transfers. Attackers may be able to use this information to gain knowledge on the structure of your networks to aid in device discovery prior to an actual attack. And the suggested solution is as follows: Reconfigure this DNS server to restrict zone transfers to specific authorized servers only. I am running a dedicated Linux Centos server. My understanding is that I have to edit the /etc/named.conf file, which I have done and the the relevant part is as follows: options { acl "trusted" { 127.0.0.1; xxx.xxx.xxx.001; //this is one of the server's ip's xxx.xxx.xxx.002; //this is another server's ip }; allow-recursion { trusted; }; allow-notify { trusted; }; allow-transfer { trusted; }; }; I then restarted the named service /etc/rc.d/init.d/named restart and requested a re-scan, which failed again for the same reason. Am I missing something obvious here?

  • Internal and External DNS from Different Servers, Same Zone

    - by Shane
Hello All, I am either having trouble understanding how DNS works, or I am having trouble configuring my DNS correctly (either one isn't good). I am currently working with a domain, I'll call it webdomain.com, and I need to allow all of our internal users to get out to dotster to get our public DNS entries just like the rest of the world. Then, on top of that, I want to be able to supply just a few override DNS entries for testing servers and equipment that is not available publically. As an example: public.webdomain.com - should get this from dotster outside.webdomain.com - should get this from dotster as well testing.webdomain.com - should get this from my internal dns controller The problem that I seem to be running into at every turn is that if I have an internal DNS controller that contains a zone for webdomain.com then I can get my specified internal entries but never get anything from the public DNS server. This holds true regardless of the type of DNS server I use also--I have tried both a Linux Bind9 and a Windows 2008 Domain Controller. I guess my big question is: am I being unreasonable to think that a system should be able to check my specified internal DNS and in the case where a requested entry doesn't exist it should fail over to the specified public dns server -OR- is this just not the way DNS works and I am lost in the sauce? It seems like it should be as simple as telling my internal DNS server to forward any requests that it can't fulfill to dotster, but that doesn't seem to work. Could this be a firewall issue? Thanks in advance

  • Two hosted servers, one public - VPN?

    - by Aquitaine
Hello there, Web developer here who has to occasionally wear a system & network admin hat (small company). We currently have a single hosted server running Windows Server 2003 that runs both our web server (IIS/Coldfusion) and our database server (SQL Server 2008). We lock down the SQL server by allowing only specific IPs to connect to it. Not ideal but it's worked thus far. We're moving up to two distinct servers and I want to take the opportunity to 'get things right' and make only the web server face the public. What I need to be able to do is to allow only a handful of people to connect to the database server. Rather than using an IP allow list, I'd prefer to use a VPN to let people through so that access is based on the user and not simply the user's location. I'm leaning toward something like OpenVPN, just so I can stick with Server 2008 Web edition. Do I: Use the web server as a VPN server and set up the database server to only accept connections from the web server? Is there an extra step required to make connections to, say, db.mycompany.com route through the VPN rather than through a different connection? I'm ignorant of this part of network infrastructure stuff. Or, Set up a VPN server on the database server as the only public-facing server connection so that there aren't any routing issues to deal with? I know this is Network 101 stuff but I thought I'd ask before just blundering through it since it could affect the company a bit. Thanks very much!

  • online backup plan for a home office with servers

    - by TiernanO
So, i am in the process of tweaking my spending and i need to change my backup plan... I am currently using a mix of JungleDisk and ZManda ZCB to backup files on my MacBook Pro, Main Windows Server Wrokstation, a dedicated Windows Server in a datacenter, and various other machines and file sources. The problem is the cost: this month, it has cost me about $90 to backup a little over 500Gb... This amount of data will increese over time too, since i am backing up Photos (24Mb RAW images + 4-8MB JPEGs), Videos (various cameras shooting 720p and 1080p), Music, Movies, TV shows and Apps from iTunes (though with iTunes cloud, this might not need to be backed up again) and source code... I have looked at the likes of Mozy, CrashPlan+ and Pro, Backblaze and Carbonite, but each have their problems: Mozy seems overly expenvice per gig at 50C Crashplan wont sell to me since i am outside the US (they hide it on their site... hidden in the FAQ section!) Backblaze dont support Windows Server Carbonite business pricing is $600 up front for 500Gb of storage... Fro $229, they will not backup Windows Servers. So, other than those, Jungle Disk (at 15c per Gig) or ZManda (also at 15c per Gig) what other options are there? what are other people using?

  • Nginx multiple upstream servers on the same domain via diferent url

    - by Barry
Hello. I am trying to rout trafic to different upstream servers (that serve different applications and not for load balancing). The incoming trafic has the same domain name but different URL. Here is an example of my configuration: http { upstream backend1 { server 127.0.0.1:8080 fail_timeout=0; server 127.0.0.1:8081 fail_timeout=0; } upstream backend2 { server 127.0.0.1:8090 fail_timeout=0; server 127.0.0.1:8091 fail_timeout=0; } server { listen 80; server_name my_server.com; root /home/my_server; location /serve_me { fastcgi_pass backend1; include fastcgi_params; } location / { fastcgi_pass backend2; include fastcgi_params; } } } It seems that whatever trafic comes in (including "my_server.com/serve_me") goes to backend2. How do I make queries that start with /serve_me to be directed to backend1? Thanks, Barry.

  • PHP Script Won't Run - Apache2/MySQL Servers Running, PHP Installed - Ubuntu 10.04

    - by nicorellius
I am trying to install a CRM on a Linux (Ubuntu 10.04) laptop to do some testing. Installing the current versions of Apache, MySQL and PHP, and getting the CRM to run is easy. It's when I try to go backwards and run it on a previous set of versions I run into problems. This is what I have done: I have installed Apache 2.2.14, MySQL 5.0.83, and PHP 5.2.8. When I type something like mysql --version I get back what I would expect: version and distribution info. The same goes for Apache2 and PHP. The Apache server is running and so is mysqld. So when I go to my browser and look at http://localhost/<CRM dir>/install.php Firefox offers to open the PHP file or save it, as if it doesn't recognize the file. What should happen is that I should get a welcome page and the installation wizard for this CRM distribution should start. I have tried so many different things I probably screwed up something along the way. I have restarted the servers over and over, and even recompiled the versions of MySQL and PHP with no problems. I am hoping I am overlooking something simple because I am lost. Any help is appreciated.

  • Using 1and1.com Servers, SMTP Mail is Limited - Local XAMPP Server Works As Expected

    - by nicorellius
I'm starting to not like 1and1.com that much. I've used them for years, but mainly for simple sites without much need for configuration. I know there are better hosting companies out and I may go seeking them. The problem here is that on my Local XAMPP server (sitting on a network with Comcast ISP), I have a PHP script that uses PEAR::Mail to send mail using MIME. The script works find locally with either smtp.1and1.com and corresponding credentials and smtp.gmail.com with corresponding credentials, using appropriate ports, etc. 1and1 tells me that I have to change the MX record on the domain where this script runs in order to make this work. This doesn't make sense to me. Now I'm pretty new to all this, but how is it that this is the case? Why can my local server work just fine, out of the box, but their servers not? I have asked them these questions, but they are very vague and I cannot get any good answers from them. Versions: PEAR Version: 1.5.0 PHP Version: 4.4.9 Zend Engine Version: 1.3.0 My apologies in advance for my ignorance. Thanks for the help in advance.

  • ASP.NET Web API returns 404 for PUT only on some servers

    - by Greg Bacchus
Ok, I have been racking my brain and the internet for a solution to this. I just can't figure it out. I have written a site that uses ASP.NET MVC Web API and all working nicely until I put it on staging server. The site works fine on my local machine and the dev web server. Both dev and staging servers are Win Server 2008 R2. The problem is this: basically the site works, but there are some API calls that use the HTTP PUT method. These fail on staging returning a 404, but work fine elsewhere. The first problem that I came across and fixed was in Request Filtering. But still getting the 404. I have turned on tracing in IIS and get the following problem. 168. -MODULE_SET_RESPONSE_ERROR_STATUS ModuleName IIS Web Core Notification 16 HttpStatus 404 HttpReason Not Found HttpSubStatus 0 ErrorCode 2147942402 ConfigExceptionInfo Notification MAP_REQUEST_HANDLER ErrorCode The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002) The configs are the same on dev and staging, matter of fact the whole site is a direct copy. Why would the GETs and POSTs work, but not the PUTs? Thanks Greg
