I'd like Apache to terminate my perl script after 1 minute if it doesn't complete naturally. Is there a setting in Apache (or other server software) to do this?
I'm looking for a log viewing solution for (mostly) Linux and (preferably) Windows too. I want to be able to centralize the log information for a lot of servers so that people in the company can see what's going on for different servers.
I would guess this would involve having a central server which accepts information from the various computers / virtual machines with (perhaps) a running daemon on each of the servers.
Does such a software exist?
Can anybody suggest me any good and preferably free software - working on Vista / 7 - for recovering content from DVD disks?
A few DVD-R VOB files cannot be read from disk by Windows. Probably the camera failed to burn it correctly.
What I want to achieve is to skip a few invalid frames in VOB files and recreate proper MPEG stream - without re-encoding whole stream and loosing the quality.
Hello,
I have excel files with the following header:
Caption
Sound: Location of sound file
Image: Location of image file
How can I make a slideshow from this? Each slide should show image, caption, and play sound automatically according to the excel list. I don't care what software I use, if I can get the job done.
Total slides ~10,000.
In case interested, this is review material for English second language students.
Any help appreciated,
Thanks
A friend of mine says that a site I frequent was reported by his antivirus software to be infected with a trojan. I can't confirm this because I'm on a Mac, and he's running PC so nothing happens on my end.
I'm wondering if there's a web site that I could use to check the site for infection or malicious script.
I want to use the internet connection of the servers at my university. I have a remote desktop account, and I have tried setting up VPN, but all VPN or proxy server software I could think of was blocked.
Windows' built in VPN is blocked too. When I go to "Change Adapter Settings" and click on "File-New Incoming Connection", it says "Access denied."
What would your suggestion be to use the internet connection of the remote desktop?
What would be a good solution for hooking up the satelite tv box (dish network) in my room to be abl;e to watch it on my PC and possibly record video from it?
Please share with me the best cards, cables, software, anything else needed to do this in the most efficient way?
I have a VPN connection set up using the Cisco VPN Client, and whenever I connect to it I lose my internet connection. This is the first time I have used this software, all previous VPNs I have used have been setup through Windows and I can uncheck the 'use remote gateway' box in the TCP-IP properties box to get around this.
Is there a similar option in the Cisco Client that I am missing? I am running on Windows 7 32 bit
I want an easier way to change my default sound device from my sound card to my usb headset.
Currently it takes a very precise right click, a left click, another right click, and two more left clicks.
Ideally i could just have it swap with a shortcut key. (it was a little easier in XP but not by much.)
A software solution is preferred, but I am open to suggestions that use hardware.
I am running Windows 7 currently.
I'm not looking for a software or site to download youtube but for an opensource script in bash or any which is up todate as youtube often changes the download url.
I've found this but seems deprecated:

I connect to many different computers via VNC and RDP. I'm looking for a windows client that can preferably do the following, though I'd accept software options that only meet some of the points:
Save profiles (hostname, username, password, settings, etc.)
Connect to VNC Servers
Connect to RDP Servers
Connect to SSH Servers (or ssh tunneling)
Scan network for devices not in saved profiles
Free (as in beer)
Tools that do similar things, but not on windows:
ARD on OSX
iSSH on iPad
Desktop Connect on iPad
I work with four monitors and software that displays a great many windows. Every now and then things go wrong and I'll end up with a window that is partially or completely "off the screen". Is there a trick or utility that will help me rescue the windows and bring them back in to view.
I'm currently installing Windows 7 onto a new laptop before imaging it to deploy. I need to install the Wireless and Graphics drivers, but the HP site is offering me both ATI and Intel graphics drivers (at 102MB and 470(!)MB) a pop, as well as Intel, Broadcomm, RealTek and Atheros wireless drivers.
Is there a bit of software that will tell me what devices are in the machine so I don't have to go through, trial-and-error and find which is the right driver for the hardware?
I have a plasma TV with USB input (can play divx and etc) but what I would like to do is use a software to turn a folder in my notebook HD (windows 7) into a USB Mass Storage device, so that I can connect the TV to the PC using a USB cable so that the TV recognize the PC folder as a flash drive / usb mass storage.
is seems MAC has something like what I need:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661
So there must be a similar to windows!
If someone knows a software with these features:
Works from the tray area
Very lightweight
Works also in Windows XP (preferably workstation, nothing serverish required)
Can show a bandwidth usage graph, where I can easily see each PC's usage
I can inspect a computer's connections, find out the ports and applications that are using them (eg, all bandwidth is consumed by PC #3, that's running uTorrent.exe from port 33003)
...I'd happily check it out. I'm only sharing my connection with (at most) 4 computers, I'd prefer not having to add hardware or reinstall my system. Thanks in advance!
I don't really know how did I get to download and install this software. But when I search it in google, the site has a red mark(wot).
Is it bad for the computer? does it install spyware and viruses

The drive is a Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB.
There are no SMART errors and the drive sounds healthy.
Restarted the computer from the drive working fine and then noticed that the drive had the same drive letter but has RAW as the file system.
I have a few file/partition recovery software titles available but since doing any scans on this drive takes about 2.5 hours I wanted to know if any one had any advice.
Hi,
We recently switched from other bug tracking software to Jira (3.13 currently ).
We need to set issue linking in a manner that my task start time depends on other colleague's issue and I can not start until he resolves his issue...
I goolged and found that this kind of thing is integrated in newer versions :/ Maybe we need some plugin, make some custom field, enable something in administration part...
Any help would be appreciated...
(please retag/add jira and bug-tracking tags or whatever)
I deleted a printer that I had junked - a Canon. Now Zoombrowser EX says to install a printer that is supported by the program software. What to do to install a HP Officejet so the EasyPhotoPrint part of Zoombrowser will work??
I have a PC running Opensuse 11.0 Linux. I currently login using ssh with putty. However this is a command line login. How to do a remote xserver login from windows to run a gnome or kde session. what software should I use?
I have the root password for the Linux PC and admin privileges on vista.
I have two PCs (different specs) with the latest Windows Vista and Safari 4 updates installed. In one machine, Safari 4 works great but in the other, it starts up slowly (less than a minute though) with harddisk sound indicating data access activities.
I have cleared all internet caches and I am quite sure that there is no virus in both machines. Are there any other reasons that Safari performances are so different in comparably similar software and hardware environments?
When I type in the standard web address for my site, I get a 403 error. However, when I type in a more exact address, say pointing to an index.php file, everything shows up fine.
I'm using Anodyne Productions' Nova (SMS 3) which uses codeignitor. All accompanying software (PHP/MySQL) is compatible.
I'm not a very technical person, so I'm hoping that this is an easy fix.
Thanks for taking the time to answer.
I'm taking a music composition course and it's highly recommended we grab some software for music composition, the two most popular being Sibelius and Finale. They aren't overly pricey, as both have student versions, but I was wondering if anyone knew of some good free music composition programs.
Thanks
