  I want to use a method as a parameter of another method of the same class. I have a class and objects which are companions: class mM(var elem:Matrix){ //apply a function on a dimension rows (1) or cols (2) def app(func:Iterable[Double]=>Double)(dim : Int) : Matrix = { ... } //utility function def logsumexp(): Double = {...} } object mM{ def apply(elem:Matrix):mM={new mM(elem)} def logsumexp(elem:Iterable[Double]): Double ={ this.apply(elem.asInstanceOf[Matrix]).logsumexp() } } Normally I use logsumexp like this mM(matrix).logsumexp but if want to apply it to the rows I can't use mM(matrix).app(mM.logsumexp)(1), I get the error: error: reference to mM is ambiguous; it is imported twice in the same scope by import mM and import mM What is the most elegant solution ? • Circular reference while setting up bidirectional communication line between two remote objects

  I'm using .Net remoting to set up a bidirectional communication line between two objects. The basic structure is as follows: Instances of RemoteObjectA call methods on StaticObjectA. Instances of RemoteObjectB call methods on StaticObjectB. StaticObjectA needs to be able to call methods provided by RemoteObjectB. StaticObjectB needs to be able to call methods provided by RemoteObjectA. The problem with this setup is the circular reference in RemoteObjectA gets StaticObjectA gets RemoteObjectB gets StaticObjectB gets RemoteObjectA... I implemented an interface IRemoteObjectA and IRemoteObjectB and had the remote objects inheret from their respective interfaces, but then setting up the remoting fails. If the solution to this problem is: "don't use remoting", I can deal with that. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a simple solution.

  I normally do this to set a new Map to a private variable: public static void setListaClausulas(Map<String, Clausula> nvLista) { listaClausulas = new TreeMap<String, Clausula>(nvLista); } I suppose this is ok to set a new copy of the nvLista and all it's members and not a reference, is it? But now I have a Map inside another Map and I'm doing this: public static void setListaClausulas(Map<String, Map<String, Clausula>> nvLista) { listaClausulas = new TreeMap<String, Map<String, Clausula>>(nvLista); } Is this the correct way to do it or do you recommend something else? What I want is to set a new copy of nvLista (and all it's elements) and not copy just the reference.

I'm currently using eval() to get the the desired effect which I know is very, very wrong.   What I got so far: It all begins with an HTML form which prompts the user for a username and password. From there it post the acquired user/pass to a servlet, GateKeeper. GateKeeper determines if the user/pass combination match any records in the MySQL database. Here is the sql I use: SELECT id FROM Users WHERE username='?' AND password=MD5('?') where the ? indicate information provided the previous HTML form. What I need now: I need some way to store the username and id of the record in the database. GateKeeper redirects the user to a control panel upon success. Therefore, I need a method to reference the username to display simple greetings, etc and also the id so it eliminates unnecessary calls to the database. The control panel may make AJAX calls to Servlets that preform some sort of task to the MySQL database.

• Editing true type fonts

  In typical Persian fonts which are True Type, there is a historical problem with yeh and kafs. These fonts are created for Windows 98, which didn't include full Persian support, and now, we have 2 kind of Kafs: Keheh(0x6a9, ?), and Arabic Kaf(0x643, ?), and 2 kind of Yehs: Farsi Yeh(0x6cc, ?), and Arabic Yeh(0x64a, ?). Old fonts use Arabic ones, but the standard keyboard for Persian uses the Persian ones of course. Is it possible to edit and fix these fonts? I've made many attempts to replace these characters with FontLab Studio, which I failed. Any suggestions?

• Why suddenly DOS-type hexadecimal file names?

  One of the fairly recent folders on my XP SATA data drive suddenly shows DOS-type hexadecimal file names (i.e., eight characters with three-character extensions) I deleted them and now my Recycle bin shows them with a tilde (i.e., 194ABE~1.JPG). The images are all valid but the file names I assigned are gone. (The 2-terabyte SATA data drive has no OS, if that matters.) The last time this happened on an IDE drive, I was able to back up all the remaining files just before the drive died. Am I facing the same scenario now with my 2-terabyte SATA data drive? It is only a couple of years old. Should I quickly buy another one and back up 20 years of files to it before my current drive dies?

• Can't type into some text fields in any browser on Windows 7

  I can't type into e.g. facebook's log in form with my computer. I hit my keys, but nothing happens. Special characters like c, c, š, etc. work. Backspace doesn't, delete does. This goes for Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome. This also happens with some other sites, sometimes even with gmail (or any google's log in form). I read somewhere that the solution is to reregister some dlls: regsvr32 mshtmled.dll regsvr32 jscript.dll regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll The first two work, the third one says The module "mshtml.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer.dll was not found. And of course, running just the first two didn't help. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

• Can't Type Tilde character in Mac OS X

  Hi this is a new problem that I did not have a few weeks ago. I have a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard running on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). The problem is that I cannot type a tilde. Instead when I press the tilde I get this character: §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ I cannot for the life of me figure this out, except that I vaguely remember I can asked to redetect the Mac keyboard layout for this keyboard and I think i chose the wrong one. Now I get this weird character when pressing tilde. How can I fix this? Or how can I redetect this keyboard layout? Thanks.

  Today I got an e-mail from logcheck informing me that the following system event occurred. http: getaddrinfo*.gaih_getanswer: got type "46" Indeed, the above message occurs 4 times in /var/log/aut.log it occured twice yesterday around 6:46 am. And this morning it also occured twice around the same time. I wonder what this message means and if this message is something to worry about or if should just tell logcheck to ignore it. If it is something to worry about, then any pointers on how to fix the problem are appreciated.

• Default file type supported by IHS web server

  Hello, We earlier used IIS web server. To redirect some URLs ending with .asp, we created a directory structure based on URL's to be redirected; wrote VB script in .asp files to redirect present page to desired page and placed these .asp files in appropriate directories. Finally copied this directory structure to the docroot of IIS webserver. Due to some reasons, we had to switch to IHS web server. As IHS does not support .asp files, we can't use same directory structure having .asp files to redirect our URLs. Please let me know the default file type that is supported by IHS webserver (as the default filetype supported in IHS is .asp). Thanks in advance! SK

  I want to put some of my own technical writing on the web: tutorials, how-to's, conceptual articles about programming etc. I write mostly for myself yet, but think others can benefit from it so I want to put it online, and I also have plans of making everything more coherent and turning it into a book. My articles are not meant as a blog, they're just meant as a collection of tutorials and how-to's, but I think a blog-type software would probably be the most appropriate mode of formatting that kind of stuff. Right now I am using the blog feature of cite u like, which is very low tech and I really need something better. On my wish list is, among other things: code snippets in scrollable boxes syntax highlighting for source code snippets tagging articles with graphical icons according to topic, like in slashdot of course users (i.e. readers) should be able to comment on articles Also, just more options than a super-simple blog should look slick! should not look wikipedia-like Is there any software you can recommend for this purpose?

  I have a C drive/volume in my server with layout = mirror and type =dynamic and status as healthy(boot,pagefile,crashdump). I have some questions regarding this configuration: I think it is a raid configuration.Please correct me if I am wrong. I read that, mirroring is nothing but raid-1 configuration. All my software and OS is in this drive. I want my software to be in a separate drive, but I am not sure if I can create a separate drive from the above mentioned c drive. I want to know: a. If I can do it and how ?(using disk management) b. If this is a right approach ?
