  • What to put as the Provider for a mocked IQueryable

    - by Vaccano
    I am working with Moles and mocking a System.Data.Linq.Table. I got it constructing fine, but when I use it, it wants IQueryable.Provider to be mocked (moled) as well. I just want it to use normal Linq To Objects. Any idea what that would be? Here is the syntax I can use: MTable<User> userTable = new System.Data.Linq.Moles.MTable<User>(); userTable.Bind(new List<User> { UserObjectHelper.TestUser() }); // this is the line that needs help MolesDelegates.Func<IQueryProvider> provider = //Insert provider here! ^ userTable.ProviderSystemLinqIQueryableget = provider | | | what can I put here? ----------------------------------------+

  • How do you make a Factory that can return derived types?

    - by Seth Spearman
    I have created a factory class called AlarmFactory as such... 1 class AlarmFactory 2 { 3 public static Alarm GetAlarm(AlarmTypes alarmType) //factory ensures that correct alarm is returned and right func pointer for trigger creator. 4 { 5 switch (alarmType) 6 { 7 case AlarmTypes.Heartbeat: 8 HeartbeatAlarm alarm = HeartbeatAlarm.GetAlarm(); 9 alarm.CreateTriggerFunction = QuartzAlarmScheduler.CreateMinutelyTrigger; 10 return alarm; 11 12 break; 13 default: 14 15 break; 16 } 17 } 18 } Heartbeat alarm is derived from Alarm. I am getting a compile error "cannot implicitly convert type...An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?)". How do I set this up to return a derived type? Seth

  • Why does my UIWebView not Allow User Interaction?

    - by thomasmcgee
    Hi, I'm new to these forums so I apologize for my noobieness. I did as thorough a search as I could, but I couldn't find anyone else with this issue, applogise if this has been covered elsewhere. I've created a very simple example of my problem. I'm sure I'm missing something but I can't for the life of me figure out what. I'm creating a UIWebView and adding it to a custom view controller that inherits from UIViewController. When the app loads in the iPad simulator, the uiwebview loads the desired page, but the UIWebView is entirely unresponsive. The webview does not pan or scroll and none of the in page links can be clicked. However, if you change the orientation of the webview suddleny everything works. Thanks in advance for your help!! AppDelegate header #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "EditorViewController.h" @interface FixEditorTestAppDelegate : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate> { UIWindow *window; EditorViewController *editorView; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window; @property (nonatomic, retain) EditorViewController *editorView; @end AppDelegate Implementation #import "FixEditorTestAppDelegate.h" #import "EditorViewController.h" @implementation FixEditorTestAppDelegate @synthesize window; @synthesize editorView; - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { NSLog(@"application is loading"); editorView = [[EditorViewController alloc] init]; [window addSubview:[editorView view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } - (void)dealloc { [window release]; [editorView release]; [super dealloc]; } @end View Controller header #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface EditorViewController : UIViewController <UIWebViewDelegate> { UIWebView *webView; } @property (nonatomic, retain) UIWebView *webView; @end View Controller Implementation #import "EditorViewController.h" @implementation EditorViewController @synthesize webView; /* // The designated initializer. • UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum not working in iOS 4?

    - by nickthedude
    Ive been using this function: (http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/uikit/reference/UIKitFunctionReference/Reference/reference.html#//apple_ref/c/func/UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum) ...to save a uiimage to the users photo album and it works great on everything except a 4.0 simulator, dont have a device to test on so it may be boned there as well. ive also tried it in both the latest xcode (3.2.3 gm seed) and a previous build of 3.2.3. can anyone confirm that this is still function is still "functional" in iOS 4. the documentation gives no indication that it would be removed and I havent seen anything in searches related to it. Thanks, Nick

  • Linq-to-sql Compiled Query is caching result from disposed DataContext

    - by Vladimir Kojic
    Compiled query: public static Func<OperationalDataContext, short, Machine> QueryMachineById = CompiledQuery.Compile((OperationalDataContext db, short machineID) => db.Machines.Where(m => m.MachineID == machineID).SingleOrDefault()); It looks like compiled query is caching Machine object and returning the same object even if query is called from new DataContext (I’m disposing DataContext in the service but I’m getting Machine from previous DataContext). I use POCOs and XML mapping. Getting cached object from the same datacontext is ok, but when I call query with new DataContext I don’t want to get object from old datacontext. Is there something that I don’t do right ? Thanks, Vladimir

  • WFP: How do you properly Bind a DependencyProperty to the GUI

    - by Robert Ross
    I have the following class (abreviated for simplicity). The app it multi-threaded so the Set and Get are a bit more complicated but should be ok. namespace News.RSS { public class FeedEngine : DependencyObject { public static readonly DependencyProperty _processing = DependencyProperty.Register("Processing", typeof(bool), typeof(FeedEngine), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(true, FrameworkPropertyMetadataOptions.AffectsRender)); public bool Processing { get { return (bool)this.Dispatcher.Invoke( DispatcherPriority.Normal, (DispatcherOperationCallback)delegate { return GetValue(_processing); }, Processing); } set { this.Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(DispatcherPriority.Normal, (SendOrPostCallback)delegate { SetValue(_processing, value); }, value); } } public void Poll() { while (Running) { Processing = true; //Do my work to read the data feed from remote source Processing = false; Thread.Sleep(PollRate); } // } } } Next I have my main form as the following: <Window x:Class="News.Main" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:converter="clr-namespace:News.Converters" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:News.Lookup" xmlns:rss="clr-namespace:News.RSS" Title="News" Height="521" Width="927" Initialized="Window_Initialized" Closing="Window_Closing" > <Window.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <converter:BooleanConverter x:Key="boolConverter" /> <converter:ArithmeticConverter x:Key="arithConverter" /> ... </ResourceDictionary> </Window.Resources> <DockPanel Name="dockPanel1" SnapsToDevicePixels="False" > <ToolBarPanel Height="37" Name="toolBarPanel" Orientation="Horizontal" DockPanel.Dock="Top" > <ToolBarPanel.Children> <Button DataContext="{DynamicResource FeedEngine}" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Name="btnSearch" ToolTip="Search" Click="btnSearch_Click" IsEnabled="{Binding Path=Processing, Converter={StaticResource boolConverter}}"> <Image Width="32" Height="32" Name="imgSearch" Source="{Resx ResxName=News.Properties.Resources, Key=Search}" /> </Button> ... </DockPanel> </Window> As you can see I set the DataContext to FeedEngine and Bind IsEnabled to Processing. I have also tested the boolConverter separately and it functions (just applies ! (Not) to a bool). Here is my Main window code behind in case it helps to debug. namespace News { /// <summary> /// Interaction logic for Main.xaml /// </summary> public partial class Main : Window { public FeedEngine _engine; List<NewsItemControl> _newsItems = new List<NewsItemControl>(); Thread _pollingThread; public Main() { InitializeComponent(); this.Show(); } private void Window_Initialized(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Load current Feed data. _engine = new FeedEngine(); ThreadStart start = new ThreadStart(_engine.Poll); _pollingThread = new Thread(start); _pollingThread.Start(); } } } Hope someone can see where I missed a step. Thanks.

  • Installing Win32 shared SxS policy via WiX 3.0 MSM fails for 2nd app

    - by dr-stevep
    I am attempting to author a merge module for use by multiple application installers to install a Win32 Shared SxS Assembly and its associated Policy. I'm using WiX 3.0 to generate the MSM and test MSIs. So far it works fine for the first app installer that runs … but the second app installer fails because the Policy file already exists (HRESULT: 0x800700B7). What requirement(s) for correct Win32 Shared SxS Policy installation am I missing? I have submitted WiX bug 3005301 for this (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=642714&aid=3005301&group_id=105970) and posted VS2008 projects that reproduce the problem. URL: ftp.digital-rapids.com/upload/SteveP/ User: drc-support Password: drc-support Link: ftp://drc-support:[email protected]/upload/SteveP/ wix-Bugs-3005201.rar contains a VS2008 solution that builds the MSM and MSIs that reproduce the issue. (~3MB) wix-Bugs-3005301_Output.rar contains the generated MSM, MSI, and wixpdb files (~40MB)

  • MVVM, ContextMenus and binding to ViewModel defined Command

    - by Simon Fox
    Hi I am having problems with the binding of a ContextMenu command to an ICommand property in my ViewModel. The binding seems to be attaching fine...i.e when I inspect the value of the ICommand property it is bound to an instance of RelayCommand. The CanExecute delegate does get invoked, however when I open the context menu and select an item the Execute delegate does not get invoked. Heres my View (which is defined as the DataTemplate to use for instances of the following ViewModel in a resource dictionary): <UserControl x:Class="SmartSystems.DragDropProto.ProductLinkView" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:Proto"> <UserControl.Resources> <local:CenteringConverter x:Key="centeringConvertor"> </local:CenteringConverter> </UserControl.Resources> <UserControl.ContextMenu> <ContextMenu> <MenuItem Command="{Binding ChangeColor}">Change Color</MenuItem> </ContextMenu> </UserControl.ContextMenu> <Canvas> <Ellipse Width="5" Height="5" > <Ellipse.Fill> <SolidColorBrush Color="{Binding LinkColor}"></SolidColorBrush> </Ellipse.Fill> <Ellipse.RenderTransform> <TranslateTransform X="{Binding EndpointOneXPos, Converter={StaticResource centeringConvertor}}" Y="{Binding EndpointOneYPos, Converter={StaticResource centeringConvertor}}"/> </Ellipse.RenderTransform> </Ellipse> <Line X1="{Binding Path=EndpointOneXPos}" Y1="{Binding Path=EndpointOneYPos}" X2="{Binding Path=EndpointTwoXPos}" Y2="{Binding Path=EndpointTwoYPos}"> <Line.Stroke> <SolidColorBrush Color="{Binding LinkColor}"></SolidColorBrush> </Line.Stroke> </Line> <Ellipse Width="5" Height="5" > <Ellipse.Fill> <SolidColorBrush Color="{Binding LinkColor}"></SolidColorBrush> </Ellipse.Fill> <Ellipse.RenderTransform> <TranslateTransform X="{Binding EndpointTwoXPos, Converter={StaticResource centeringConvertor}}" Y="{Binding EndpointTwoYPos, Converter={StaticResource centeringConvertor}}"/> </Ellipse.RenderTransform> </Ellipse> </Canvas> </UserControl> and ViewModel (with uneccessary implementation details removed): class ProductLinkViewModel : BaseViewModel { public ICommand ChangeColor { get; private set; } public Color LinkColor { get; private set; } public ProductLinkViewModel(....) { ... ChangeColor = new RelayCommand(ChangeColorAction); LinkColor = Colors.Blue; } private void ChangeColorAction(object param) { LinkColor = LinkColor == Colors.Blue ? Colors.Red : Colors.Blue; OnPropertyChanged("LinkColor"); } }

  • Linq-to-sql Compiled Query is returning result from different DataContext

    - by Vladimir Kojic
    Compiled query: public static Func<OperationalDataContext, short, Machine> QueryMachineById = CompiledQuery.Compile((OperationalDataContext db, short machineID) => db.Machines.Where(m => m.MachineID == machineID).SingleOrDefault()); It looks like compiled query is caching Machine object and returning the same object even if query is called from new DataContext (I’m disposing DataContext in the service but I’m getting Machine from previous DataContext). I use POCOs and XML mapping. Revised: It looks like compiled query is returning result from new data context and it is not using the one that I passed in compiled-query. Therefore I can not reuse returned object and link it to another object obtained from datacontext thru non compiled queries. I’m using unit of work pattern : // First Call Using(new DataContext) { Machine from DataContext.Table == machine from cached query } // Do some work // Second Call is failing Using(new DataContext) { Machine from DataContext.Table <> machine from cached query }

  • How can I make mock-0.6 return a sequence of values?

    - by Chris R
    I'm using the mock-0.6 library from http://www.voidspace.org.uk/python/mock/mock.html to mock out a framework for testing, and I want to have a mock method return a series of values, each time it's called. Right now, this is what I figured should work: def returnList(items): def sideEffect(*args, **kwargs): for item in items: yield item yield mock.DEFAULT return sideEffect mock = Mock(side_effect=returnList(aListOfValues)) values = mock() log.info("Got %s", values) And the log output is this: subsys: INFO: Got <generator object func at 0x1021db500> So, the side effect is returning the generator, not the next value, which seems wrong. Where am I getting this wrong?

  • F# pattern matching

    - by Roger Alsing
    What would be the most effective way to express the following code? match cond.EvalBool() with | true -> match body.Eval() with | :? ControlFlowModifier as e -> match e with | Break(scope) -> e :> obj //Break is a DU element of ControlFlowModifier | _ -> next() //other members of CFM should call next() | _ -> next() | false -> null cond.EvalBool returns a boolean result where false should return null and true should either run the entire block again (its wrapped in a func called next) or if the special value of break is found, then the loop should exit and return the break value. Is there any way to compress that block of code to something smaller?

  • Passing Variables between views / view controllers

    - by Dan
    Hi I'm new to ObjectiveC / IPhoneSDK and I'm informally trying to study it on my own. What I'm basically trying to do is from one view there are 12 zodiac signs. When a user clicks one, it proceeds to the second view (with animation) and loads the name of the zodiac sign it clicked in a UILabel, that's it. Here are my codes: Lovescopes = 1st page Horoscopes = 2nd page Lovescopes4AppDelegate.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "HoroscopesViewController.h" #import "Lovescopes4AppDelegate.h" @class Lovescopes4ViewController; @interface Lovescopes4AppDelegate : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate> { UIWindow *window; Lovescopes4ViewController *viewController; HoroscopesViewController *horoscopesViewController; } -(void)loadHoroscope; -(void)loadMainPage; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet Lovescopes4ViewController *viewController; @property (nonatomic, retain) HoroscopesViewController *horoscopesViewController; @end Lovescopes4AppDelegate.m #import "Lovescopes4AppDelegate.h" #import "Lovescopes4ViewController.h" @implementation Lovescopes4AppDelegate @synthesize window; @synthesize viewController; @synthesize horoscopesViewController; -(void)loadHoroscope { HoroscopesViewController *aHoroscopeViewController = [[HoroscopesViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"HoroscopesViewController" bundle:nil]; [self setHoroscopesViewController:aHoroscopeViewController]; [aHoroscopeViewController release]; [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.5]; [UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromLeft forView:window cache:YES]; [viewController.view removeFromSuperview]; [self.window addSubview:[horoscopesViewController view]]; [UIView commitAnimations]; } -(void)loadMainPage { [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.5]; [UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromRight forView:window cache:NO]; [horoscopesViewController.view removeFromSuperview]; [self.window addSubview:[viewController view]]; [UIView commitAnimations]; [horoscopesViewController release]; horoscopesViewController = nil; } - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { // Override point for customization after app launch [window addSubview:viewController.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } - (void)dealloc { [viewController release]; [window release]; [super dealloc]; } @end Lovescopes4ViewController.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "HoroscopesViewController.h" @interface Lovescopes4ViewController : UIViewController { HoroscopesViewController *hvc; } -(IBAction)loadAries; @property (nonatomic, retain) HoroscopesViewController *hvc; @end Lovescope4ViewController.m #import "Lovescopes4ViewController.h" #import "Lovescopes4AppDelegate.h" @implementation Lovescopes4ViewController @synthesize hvc; -(IBAction)loadAries { NSString *selected =@"Aries"; [hvc loadZodiac:selected]; Lovescopes4AppDelegate *mainDelegate = (Lovescopes4AppDelegate *) [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [mainDelegate loadHoroscope]; } HoroscopesViewController.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface HoroscopesViewController : UIViewController { IBOutlet UILabel *zodiacLabel; } -(void)loadZodiac:(id)zodiacSign; -(IBAction)back; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UILabel *zodiacLabel; @end HoroscopesViewController.m #import "HoroscopesViewController.h" #import "Lovescopes4AppDelegate.h" @implementation HoroscopesViewController @synthesize zodiacLabel; /* // The designated initializer.   • typesafe NotifyPropertyChanged using linq expressions

    - by bitbonk
    Form Build your own MVVM I have the following code that lets us have typesafe NotifyOfPropertyChange calls: public void NotifyOfPropertyChange<TProperty>(Expression<Func<TProperty>> property) { var lambda = (LambdaExpression)property; MemberExpression memberExpression; if (lambda.Body is UnaryExpression) { var unaryExpression = (UnaryExpression)lambda.Body; memberExpression = (MemberExpression)unaryExpression.Operand; } else memberExpression = (MemberExpression)lambda.Body; NotifyOfPropertyChange(memberExpression.Member.Name); } How does this approach compare to standard simple strings approach performancewise? Sometimes I have properties that change at a very high frequency. Am I safe to use this typesafe aproach? After some first tests it does seem to make a small difference. How much CPU an memory load does this approach potentially induce?

  • Why does C# thread die?

    - by JackN
    This is my 1st C# project so I may be doing something obviously improper in the code below. I am using .NET, WinForms (I think), and this is a desktop application until I get the bugs out. UpdateGui() uses Invoke((MethodInvoker)delegate to update various GUI controls based on received serial data and sends a GetStatus() command out the serial port 4 times a second. Thread Read() reads the response from serial port whenever it arrives which should be near immediate. SerialPortFixer is a SerialPort IOException Workaround in C# I found at http://zachsaw.blogspot.com/2010/07/serialport-ioexception-workaround-in-c.html. After one or both threads die I'll see something like The thread 0x1288 has exited with code 0 (0x0). in the debug code output. Why do UpdateGui() and/or Read() eventually die? public partial class UpdateStatus : Form { private readonly byte[] Command = new byte[32]; private readonly byte[] Status = new byte[32]; readonly Thread readThread; private static readonly Mutex commandMutex = new Mutex(); private static readonly Mutex statusMutex = new Mutex(); ... public UpdateStatus() { InitializeComponent(); SerialPortFixer.Execute("COM2"); if (serialPort1.IsOpen) { serialPort1.Close(); } try { serialPort1.Open(); } catch (Exception e) { labelWarning.Text = LOST_COMMUNICATIONS + e; labelStatus.Text = LOST_COMMUNICATIONS + e; labelWarning.Visible = true; } readThread = new Thread(Read); readThread.Start(); new Timer(UpdateGui, null, 0, 250); } static void ProcessStatus(byte[] status) { Status.State = (State) status[4]; Status.Speed = status[6]; // MSB Status.Speed *= 256; Status.Speed += status[5]; var Speed = Status.Speed/GEAR_RATIO; Status.Speed = (int) Speed; ... } public void Read() { while (serialPort1 != null) { try { serialPort1.Read(Status, 0, 1); if (Status[0] != StartCharacter[0]) continue; serialPort1.Read(Status, 1, 1); if (Status[1] != StartCharacter[1]) continue; serialPort1.Read(Status, 2, 1); if (Status[2] != (int)Command.GetStatus) continue; serialPort1.Read(Status, 3, 1); ... statusMutex.WaitOne(); ProcessStatus(Status); Status.update = true; statusMutex.ReleaseMutex(); } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine(@"ERROR! • Illegal cross thread operation exception, unable to handle it

    - by yeah1000
    Hello, i am using visual C# express 2008. I SOMETIMES get the illegal cross thread operation in my invoke method when i try to run my project. It use the same invoke method in many places but its only at the beginning of another thread that i get the error. I check the InvokeRequired property, invoke the same method and in the 'else' condition and create a temporary variable and assign it the text of my control. But on that line, in the 'else' statement, inside the Invoking method i sometimes get the exception. What could be the cause? How to get rid of it? It does not occur often, but it is still a bug... • Grafting LINQ onto C# 2 library

    - by P Daddy
    I'm writing a data access layer. It will have C# 2 and C# 3 clients, so I'm compiling against the 2.0 framework. Although encouraging the use of stored procedures, I'm still trying to provide a fairly complete ability to perform ad-hoc queries. I have this working fairly well, already. For the convenience of C# 3 clients, I'm trying to provide as much compatibility with LINQ query syntax as I can. Jon Skeet noticed that LINQ query expressions are duck typed, so I don't have to have an IQueryable and IQueryProvider (or IEnumerable<T>) to use them. I just have to provide methods with the correct signatures. So I got Select, Where, OrderBy, OrderByDescending, ThenBy, and ThenByDescending working. Where I need help are with Join and GroupJoin. I've got them working, but only for one join. A brief compilable example of what I have is this: // .NET 2.0 doesn't define the Func<...> delegates, so let's define some workalikes delegate TResult FakeFunc<T, TResult>(T arg); delegate TResult FakeFunc<T1, T2, TResult>(T1 arg1, T2 arg2); abstract class Projection{ public static Condition operator==(Projection a, Projection b){ return new EqualsCondition(a, b); } public static Condition operator!=(Projection a, Projection b){ throw new NotImplementedException(); } } class ColumnProjection : Projection{ readonly Table table; readonly string columnName; public ColumnProjection(Table table, string columnName){ this.table = table; this.columnName = columnName; } } abstract class Condition{} class EqualsCondition : Condition{ readonly Projection a; readonly Projection b; public EqualsCondition(Projection a, Projection b){ this.a = a; this.b = b; } } class TableView{ readonly Table table; readonly Projection[] projections; public TableView(Table table, Projection[] projections){ this.table = table; this.projections = projections; } } class Table{ public Projection this[string columnName]{ get{return new ColumnProjection(this, columnName);} } public TableView Select(params Projection[] projections){ return new TableView(this, projections); } public TableView Select(FakeFunc<Table, Projection[]> projections){ return new TableView(this, projections(this)); } public Table Join(Table other, Condition condition){ return new JoinedTable(this, other, condition); } public TableView Join(Table inner, FakeFunc<Table, Projection> outerKeySelector, FakeFunc<Table, Projection> innerKeySelector, FakeFunc<Table, Table, Projection[]> resultSelector){ Table join = new JoinedTable(this, inner, new EqualsCondition(outerKeySelector(this), innerKeySelector(inner))); return join.Select(resultSelector(this, inner)); } } class JoinedTable : Table{ readonly Table left; readonly Table right; readonly Condition condition; public JoinedTable(Table left, Table right, Condition condition){ this.left = left; this.right = right; this.condition = condition; } } This allows me to use a fairly decent syntax in C# 2: Table table1 = new Table(); Table table2 = new Table(); TableView result = table1 .Join(table2, table1["ID"] == table2["ID"]) .Select(table1["ID"], table2["Description"]); But an even nicer syntax in C# 3: TableView result = from t1 in table1 join t2 in table2 on t1["ID"] equals t2["ID"] select new[]{t1["ID"], t2["Description"]}; This works well and gives me identical results to the first case. The problem is if I want to join in a third table. TableView result = from t1 in table1 join t2 in table2 on t1["ID"] equals t2["ID"] join t3 in table3 on t1["ID"] equals t3["ID"] select new[]{t1["ID"], t2["Description"], t3["Foo"]}; Now I get an error (Cannot implicitly convert type 'AnonymousType#1' to 'Projection[]'), presumably because the second join is trying to join the third table to an anonymous type containing the first two tables. This anonymous type, of course, doesn't have a Join method. Any hints on how I can do this?

  • How to have a function with a nullable string parameter in Go?

    - by yuku
    I'm used to Java's String where we can pass null rather than "" for special meanings, such as use a default value. In Go, string is a primitive type, so I cannot pass nil (null) to a parameter that requires a string. I could write the function using pointer type, like this: func f(s *string) so caller can call that function either as f(nil) or // not so elegant temp := "hello"; f(&temp) but the following is unfortunately not allowed: // elegant but disallowed f(&"hello"); What is the best way to have a parameter that receives either a string or nil?

  • How do I get a value of a reference type in an Expression?

    - by Jon Kruger
    I have this method: public void DoSomething<T>(Expression<Func<T, object>> method) { } If this method is called like this: DoSomething(c => c.SomeMethod(new TestObject())); ... how do I get the value of the parameter that was passed into SomeMethod()? If the parameter is a value type, this works: var methodCall = (MethodCallExpression)method.Body; var parameterValue = ((ConstantExpression)methodCall.Arguments[0]).Value; However, when I pass in a reference type, methodCall.Arguments[0] is a MemberExpression, and I can't seem to figure out how to write code to get the value out of it.

  • Two UIViews, one UIViewController (in one UINavigationController)

    - by jdandrea
    Given an iPhone app with a UITableViewController pushed onto a UINavigationController, I would like to add a right bar button item to toggle between the table view and an "alternate" view of the same data. Let's also say that this other view uses the same data but is not a UITableView. Now, I know variations on this question already exist on Stack Overflow. However, in this case, that alternate view would not be pushed onto the UINavigationController. It would be visually akin to flipping the current UIViewController's table view over and revealing the other view, then being able to flip back. In other words, it's intended to take up a single spot in the UINavigationController hierarchy. Moreover, whatever selection you ultimately make from within either view will push a common UIViewController onto the UINavigationController stack. Still more info: We don't want to use a separate UINavigationController just to handle this pair of views, and we don't want to split these apart via a UITabBarController either. Visually and contextually, the UX is meant to show two sides of the same coin. It's just that those two sides happen to involve their own View Controllers in normal practice. Now … it turns out I have already gone and quickly set this up to see how it might work! However, upon stepping back to examine it, I get the distinct impression that I went about it in a rather non-MVC way, which of course concerns me a bit. Here's what I did at a high level. Right now, I have a UIViewController (not a UITableViewController) that handles all commonalities between the two views, such as fetching the raw data. I also have two NIBs, one for each view, and two UIView objects to go along with them. (One of them is a UITableView, which is a kind of UIView.) I switch between the views using animation (easy enough). Also, in an effort to keep things encapsulated, the now-split-apart UITableView (not the UIViewController!) acts as its own delegate and data source, fetching data from the VC. The VC is set up as a weak, non-retained object in the table view. In parallel, the alternate view gets at the raw data from the VC in the exact same way. So, there are a few things that smell funny here. The weak linking from child to parent, while polite, seems like it might be wrong. Making a UITableView the table's data source and delegate also seems odd to me, thinking that a view controller is where you want to put that per Apple's MVC diagrams. As it stands now, it would appear as if the view knows about the model, which isn't good. Loading up both views in advance also seems odd, because lazy loading is no longer in effect. Losing the benefits of a UITableViewController (like auto-scrolling to cells with text fields) is also a bit frustrating, and I'd rather not reinvent the wheel to work around that as well. Given all of the above, and given we want that "flip effect" in the context of a single spot on a single UINavigationController, and given that both views are two sides of the same coin, is there a better, more obvious way to design this that I'm just happening to miss completely? Clues appreciated!

  • Asp.Net Export to Excel - Japanese Characters

    - by Kalyan
    I am currently using Visual Studio 2008 for my ASP .NET application. I am trying to Export some reports with Japanese Characters to Excel via the Response object. When I try to Export, all the Japanese characters looks garbled. It works fine with Chinese Characters. Here is what I tried: I tried Installed Japanese Language Pack / Encoding to UTF-8 / UTF-7 / Shift-JIS / Globalization (Web.Config) .. but no luck. Any Ideas how this can be fixed ? Thanks !! string attachment = "attachment; filename=PerksPlusReport.xls"; //Response.Clear(); Response.ClearContent(); Response.ClearHeaders(); Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", attachment); //Response.Charset = "UTF-8"; //Response.Charset = "UTF-7"; //Response.Charset = "Shift_JIS"; Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel"; StringWriter sw = new StringWriter(); HtmlTextWriter htw = new HtmlTextWriter(sw); // Create a form to contain the grid HtmlForm frm = new HtmlForm(); ReportGridView.Parent.Controls.Add(frm); frm.Attributes["runat"] = "server"; GridView GridView2 = new GridView(); ReportView reportDetails = GetReportDetails(); GridView2.DataSource = GetReportResults(this.ReportId.Value, reportDetails.Sql); GridView2.DataBind(); PrepareGridViewForExport(GridView2); frm.Controls.Add(GridView2); frm.RenderControl(htw); string fileContents = sw.ToString(); int startSpot = fileContents.IndexOf("<table"); fileContents = fileContents.Substring(startSpot); int endSpot = fileContents.IndexOf("</table>"); fileContents = fileContents.Substring(0, endSpot + 8); try { // Replace all &lt; and &gt; with < and > fileContents = fileContents.Replace("&lt;", "<"); fileContents = fileContents.Replace("&gt;", ">"); fileContents = fileContents.Replace("€", "&euro;"); string RegularExpression = @"<a[^>]*>([^<]*)</a>"; Regex regex = new Regex(RegularExpression); //If match found .. uses the delegate function to replace the whole content with the filtered values if (regex.IsMatch(fileContents)) { regex.Replace(fileContents, delegate (Match m){return fileContents.Replace(m.Captures[0].Value, m.Groups[1].Value);}); } } catch (Exception ex2) { Response.Write(ex2.ToString()); } Response.Write(fileContents); Response.End();
