  • Integrating WebSockets with Rails using Rack and Event Machine

    I have created an Asynchronous version of Rails 3 that I would like to integrate with a WebSocket implementation. I am using EventMachine, Ruby 1.9, Fibers and various em-flavoured libraries as documented by the wickedly good Ilya Grigorik. I have been looking at em-websocket as the handler for WebSocket connections but unsure of the best approach for hooking this into a Rails app. Ideally, this would work in a similar fashion to node.js with Express and Socket.io - incoming connections should be detected and dispatched to the WebSocket handler or the regular rails stack as indicated by the HTTP headers & etc. TL;DR WebSocket handler that plugs into an existing Rails application Transparently dispatch incoming WebSocket requests to endpoints in the app

In my source laptop, I have a 'hg' repository in ~/work/myserver and my source laptop ip address inet addr:192.168.1.2. So what should i do on my dest laptop so that I can clone my hg repository?   • strange wpf errors on xp machine

    I created an application that has two windows. the second one is opened by .showDialog() command from the first window. on Windows 7 everything works fine but when running on XP the first window works fine but when trying to open the second window the application crash. exception message: Provide value on 'System.Windows.Baml2006.TypeConverterMarkupExtension' threw an exception. and now for the weird part: when changing the application and making the second window run first it opens without a problem. when removing the icon from the second window (it's the same file for both windows) it also runs fine. any ideas on how to solve this?

    Hi all, I want to run & control a process remotely, I found the best way is the WMI APIs, The WMI gives me information about the remote process but I need more control like waiting it and getting the standard output and errors, how can I do that, and can I get an instance of System.Diagnostics.Process class by instance ID remotely? note: I tried to get an instance of the Process by Process.GetProcessByPID and passign machineName parameter, but and Exception has thrown.   • Python UTF-8 can't decode byte on 32-bit machine

    it works fine on 64 bit machines but for some reason will not work on python 2.4.3 on a 32-bit instance. i get the error 'utf8' codec can't decode bytes in position 76-79: invalid data for the code try: str(sourceresult.sourcename).encode('utf8','replace') except: raise Exception( repr(sourceresult.sourcename ) ) it returns 'kazamidori blog\xf9' i have modified my site.py file to make UTF8 the default encoding, but still doesnt seem to be working.

How do I transfer the data files from my current working environment to the devices?

  • Identifying idle state on a windows machine

    I know about the GetLastInputInfo method but that would only give me the duration since last user input - keyboard or mouse. If a user input was last received 10 minutes ago, that wouldn't mean the system has been idle for 10 minutes - scans, downloads, movies - lots of reasons. So how can we identify whether the system is truly idle or not? Does anyone know what Window's definition of "idle" is? Must be a combination of thresholds - like less than 5% cpu util, less than 3% disk util etc. - along with the user input parameter...anyone knows the exact definition?

  • How can I call an executable to run on a separate machine within a program on my own machine (win xp

    My objective is to write a program which will call another executable on a separate computer(all with win xp) with parameters determined at run-time, then repeat for several more computers, and then collect the results. In short, I'm working on a grid-computing project. The algorithm itself being used is already coded in FORTRAN, but we are looking for an efficient way to run it on many computers at once. I suppose one way to accomplish this would be to upload a script to each computer and then run said script on each computer, all automatically and dependent on my own parameters. But how can I write a program which will write to, upload, and run a script on a separate computer? I had considered GridGain, but the algorithm is already coded and in a different language, so that is ruled out. My current guess at accomplishing this task is using Expect (wiki/Expect), but I have no knowledge of the tool. Any advice appreciated.

    I'm trying to save an install path to the registry so my windows service will know where my other application was installed. I'm using visual studio's deployment to create a registry value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER, but my windows service which runs under LocalMachine doesn't have access to that. I then made the installer create a registry value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, but when I view the registry after the install it appears it never made the value. Any ideas?

  • View OS X Desktop on windows remotely at higher resolution then hosting machine

    I have a new macbook air 11, which I do some web based programming on, I have a windows box with a 1920x1200 display which I'd like to use to view the mac desktop and keep working at home when I can - taking advantage of the higher resolution screen and full sized keyboard/mouse. I don't think VNC or such is the answer I'm looking for as it would restrict the display to the airs 1366x768 - negating the main benefit more lines of text on screen. From some rudimentary googleing I think I'm after some sort of x-windows / x-11 remote display. But I'm not a Linux user and any discussion seems to be about linux os x or windows Linux setups. Can anyone provide a clear set of instructions on how to do this or an application that can do this.

    Hi, I've 2 machines with names Comp1, Comp2. There is a DNS name for them, that mask them as one, let say DNSName. I get IP addresses for both machines via Dns.GetHostEntry("DNSName"). But when I try get Dns.GetHostEntry(ipAddress) entry.HostName always contains DNSName. I found some way to get name through WMI. But our policy doesn't allow WMI on remote machines. I can do parsing of nbstat -a output, but I would like to do some clean aproach to this. Is there some way?

    I created a db row called "activity_state" to denote which things a user has and hasn't completed. The problem is, I don't know how to use it... How can I use this single row to determine what a user has done? ie. have they completed their profile?, have they completed an assignment?     I am testing the performance of a data streaming system that supports continuous queries. This is how it works: - There is a polling service which sends data to my system. - As data passes into the system, each query evaluates based on a window of the stream at the current time. - The window slides as data passes in. My problem is this, when I add more queries to the system, I should expect the throughput to decrease because it can't cope the data rate. However, I actually observe an increase in throughput. I can't understand why this is the case and I am guessing that it's something to do with the way the JVM allocates CPU, memory etc. Can anyone shed any light to my problem?

  • Considerations when porting a MS VC++ program (single machine) to a rocks cluster

    I am trying to port a MS VC++ program to run on a rocks cluster! I am not very good with linux but I am eager to learn and I imagine porting it wouldn't be an impossible task for me. However, I do not understand how to take advantage of the cluster nodes. because it seems that the code execute only runs on the front end server (obviously). I have read a little about MPI and its seems like I should use MPI to comminicate between nodes. The program is currently written such that I have a main thread that synchronizes all worker threads. The main thread also recieves commands to manipulate the simulation or query its state. If the simulation is properly setup, communication between executing threads can be significantly minimized. What I don't understand is how do I start the process on the compute nodes and how do I handle failures in nodes? And maybe there should be other things I should also consider when porting my program to run in a cluster?
