• Understanding c++ block of code

  I was given a c++ main and have to code it so it works. I am having some trouble understanding the code as I am a bit new to cpp. Here is the code int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { Class::setAtribute("string"); Class(Class::CONSTANT) << "starting up..."; } Some questions: How can the first line work with no variables? Is it static? The second line is really strange for me, what I can make out is a Constructor that takes in a class constante and then prints it out somehow? • Access static constant variable from multiple threads in C

  I have some experience with multithread programming under Linux (C/C++ & POSIX threads), however most obvious cases are sometimes very complicated. I have several static constant variables (global and function local) in my code, can I access them simultaneously from multiple threads without using mutexes? Because I don't modify them it should be ok, but it's always better to ask. I have to do heavy speed optimization, so even as fast operations as mutex lock/unlock are quite expensive for me, especially because my application is going to access these variables form long loops.

• How should I get Xcode to link an iOS project that uses a C++ static library

  Using Xcode, I've written a Cocoa Touch static library, mainly in C++. It exposes a C interface for the benefit of Objective-C client code. I have a client iOS app that uses it, and everything works and runs as expected, except that I found I needed to include a minimal .cpp file in the client project to get the link to succeed. Otherwise I get C++-related unresolved symbols, e.g. operator new(unsigned long). The above hack is easy and effective, and so I guess I'm not breaking any laws, but is there a proper way to eliminate my linker errors?

• Looking to redo a static website

  I have been asked to help redo my non-profit website. I would like to make it look better. What would be the best way to do this? I have some technical background and can learn. I have looked at various options such as Joomla, word press and so on but I am not certain on how to create a good UI for it. I have also looked at Ruby and such, which I think may be overkill for a static page such as this. I haven't done any programming etc in a few years, but I figure this may be an opportunity to get back into it.

• Static keyboard in uitableview

  I have a UITableView that holds just two cells with a textfield in each. As my tableview is just for editing the text in these textfields I always want the keyboard to be shown static in the bottom of the screen. So in viewDidLoad I set the first textfield to become first responder. Something I have noticed though is that when I push the UITableViewController into the UINavigationController the keyboard show up a little bit slower so you can see it animate into the screen. It would be much better if it was there already there when the uitableview shows up. I also tried making the textfield first responder before pushing it as recommended but that didn't made the keyboard show at all: MyTableViewController *myTableViewController = [[MyTableViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MyTableViewController" bundle:nil]; [myTableViewController.textField becomeFirstResponder]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:myTableViewController animated:YES]; [myTableViewController release]; How can I accomplish this? • Dealing with "Coder's Block" (or blank form syndrome)

  I know this is the sort of somewhat open-ended question that we're discouraged from asking, but there are lots of open-ended questions around already, and this is something quite relevant to me right now. Do you ever get those times when you're about to start work on a new function/feature of an established system, and you get "coder's block"?. It's like a mental freeze at the sight of a large, completely unpopulated dialog, or an empty code file with just the stub reference headers etc. Do you ever have that 'ulp' moment that seems to sap all your momentum and leave you wide open to distractions (surfing the web for inspiration, checking out 'crackoverflow' etc)? Not that I'd wish it on anyone, but hopefully some of you do, and hopefully some of you can suggest tips or strategies for overcoming the situation, regaining your momentum and becoming productive again. I usually try to reduce what I'm about to do down to absurdly small steps, in the hope that as the job becomes just a series of 'doh' tasks, I'll kickstart myself into working through them. However sometimes, particularly when a deadline is looming, I'll get overwhelmed by this approach as I realise I probably don't have enough time to do all of those tiny steps properly. Those are the darkest moments, (often literally) just before dawn! This situation can be particularly crippling if you mostly work alone, too. Any thoughts or suggestions? Any methods that you found helpful yourself?

  Hello. I have a problem with this code. As you can see a launch with an internal thread recv so that the program is blocked pending a given but will continue its execution, leaving the task to lock the thread. My program would continue to receive the recv data socket new_sd and so I entered an infinite loop (the commented code). The problem is that by entering the while (1) my program block before recv, but not inserting it correctly receives a string, but after that stop. Someone could help me make my recv always waiting for information?   I am trying to prototype a Rpc Call to a JBOSS webserver from Silverlight (4). I have written the code and it is working in a console application - so I know that Jboss is responding to the web request. Porting it to silverlight 4, is causing issues: let uri = new Uri(queryUrl) // this is the line that hangs let request : HttpWebRequest = downcast WebRequest.Create(uri) request.Method <- httpMethod; request.ContentType <- contentType It may be a sandbox issue, as my silverlight is being served off of my file system and the Uri is a reference to the localhost - though I am not even getting an exception. Still would appreciate thoughts on debugging the "hanging" web create in the old model... • Centering a div block without the width

  Hi, I have a problem when I try to center the div block "products" because I don't know in advance the div width. Anybody have a solution?   I need to write a simple script to replace a block of text in a configuration file with the contents of another file. If realm.xml changes then whenever the script is run again it will replace the lines again with the new contents of realm.xml. This is intended to be run in /etc/init.d/tomcat on startup of the service on multiple installations on which the realm is going to be different. I'm not so sure how can I do this simply with awk or sed.

I have multiple class or method definitions in one namespace that have different dependencies, and would like to use the fewest namespace blocks or explicit scopings possible but while grouping #include directives with the definitions that require them as best as possible. • Integrating Magento with a simple static website.

  Magento is an awesomely powerful ecommerce platform. That said, it is also very complex, and I'd like to know if there is a relatively simple way to utilize Magento as our mISV site's backend to fulfill orders without actually "using" Magento's framework to build the site, run the site, etc. In other words, I don't want to use the built-in CMS, etc. since we have a static website already built. I'd just like our Buy Now buttons to utilize the checkout stuff, and would like to be able to use the back-end part to keep track of orders etc. I was able to accomplish this "fairly" easily with osCommerce, but Magento is proving to be a little more difficult to wrap my head around since I've only started looking at it for a few days now. I found another person asking this same exact question on the Magento wiki (along with several others in the forum), and none of them ever receive a reply for some reason. I noticed that there are may Magento experts on Stack Overflow, so I thought I'd give it a go here. This is an example of one question asked by someone on their wiki, and it captures the essence of what I'm trying to accomplish: Hi, as far as I understand, all shopping cart/eCommerce solutions I see are full featured PHP driven web sites. This means that all the pages the user interacts with, are server generated, and thus, the experience, is tied to the magento framework/workflow. I’d like to integrate bits and pieces of eCommerce/shopping cart in my existing website. Effectively, I’d like to have: 1) on a product information page, a “buy now/add to cart” button that adds to a cart 2) on every page, a view cart/checkout option 3) on a checkout page, with additional content already in place, having the magento “checkout” block integrated in the page (and not the entire page generated from Magento). Have any of you done this with Magento? This is for a simple one-product website so any advice you could share would be highly appreciated.

• Block facebook from my website

  I have a secure link direction service I'm running (expiringlinks.co). If I change the headers in php to redirect my visitors, then facebook is able to show a preview of the website I'm redirecting to when users send links to one another via facebook. I wish to avoid this. Right now, I'm using an AJAX call to get the URL and javascript to redirect, but it's causing problems for users who don't use javascript. Here are a number of ways I'd like to block facebook, but I can't seem to get working: I've tried blocking the facebook bot (facebookexternalhit/1.0 and facebookexternalhit/1.1) but it's not working, I don't think they're using them for this functionality. I'm thinking of blocking the facebook IP addresses, but I can't find all of them, and I don't think it'll work unless I get all of them. I've thought of using a CAPTCHA or even a button, but I can't bring myself to do that to my visitors. Not to mention I don't think anyone would use the site. I've searched the facebook docs for meta tags that would "opt-me out", but haven't found one, and doubt that I would trust it if I had. Any creative ideas or any idea how to implement the ones above?   I have the following task to complete: In my program a have a block of database querys or questions. I want to execute these questions and wait for the result of all questions or catch an error if one question fails! My Question object looks like this (simplified): public class DbQuestion(String sql) { [...] } [...] //The answer is just a holder for custom data... public void SetAnswer(DbAnswer answer) { //Store the answer in the question and fire a event to the listeners this.OnAnswered(EventArgs.Empty); } [...] public void SetError() { //Signal an Error in this query! this.OnError(EventArgs.Empty); } So every question fired to the database has a listener that waits for the parsed result. Now I want to fire some questions asynchronous to the database (max. 5 or so) and fire an event with the data from all questions or an error if only one question throws one! Which is the best or a good way to accomplish this task? Can I really execute more then one question parallel and stop all my work when one question throws an error? I think I need some inspiration on this... Just a note: I´m working with .NET framework 2.0
