  • SWIG interface to receive an opaque struct reference in Java through function argument

    I am trying to use SWIG in order to use the Spotify API (libspotify) for Android: https://developer.spotify.com/technologies/libspotify/ I am having trouble defining the SWIG interface file to be able to successfully call the following native C function: sp_error sp_session_create(const sp_session_config * config, sp_session ** sess); Which in C would be called like this: //config struct defined previously sp_session *sess; sp_session_create(&config, &sess); But in Java I would need to call it like this: //config object defined previously sp_session javaSess = new sp_session(); sp_session_create(config, javaSess); sp_session is an opaque struct and is only defined in libspotify's API.h file as: typedef struct sp_session sp_session; I'm expecting the libspotify library to create it and give me a reference to it. The only thing I need that reference for then is to pass to other functions in the API.   • Azure Table Storage rejects an entity with a Property whose value is an Interface

    I have a type called "Comment" that I'm saving to Azure Table Storage. Since a comment can be about any number of other types, I created an interface which all of these types implement, and then put a property of type ICommentable on the comment. So Comment has a property called About of type ICommentable. When I try to save a Comment to Azure Table Storage, if the Comment.About property has a value, I get the worthless invalid input error. However, if there is no value for Comment.About, I have no problem. Why would this be? Comment.About is not the only property that is a reference type. For example, Comment.From is a reference type, but the Comment.About is the only property of a type that is an interface.     I have an xml document that looks like this <Elements> <Element> <DisplayName /> <Type /> </Element> </Elements> I have an interface, interface IElement { string DisplayName {get;} } and a couple of derived classes: public class AElement: IElement public class BElement: IElement What I want to do, is to write the most efficient query to iterate through the xml and create a list of IElement, containing AElement or BElement, based on the 'Type' property in the xml. So far I have this: IEnumerable<AElement> elements = from xmlElement in XElement.Load(path).Elements("Element") where xmlElement.Element("type").Value == "AElement" select new AElement(xmlElement.Element("DisplayName").Value); return elements.Cast<IElement>().ToList(); But this is only for AElement, is there a way to add BElement in the same query, and also make it generic IEnumerable? Or would I have to run this query once for each derived type?

  • implementing a read/write field for an interface that only defines read

    I have a C# 2.0 application where a base interface allows read-only access to a value in a concrete class. But, within the concrete class, I'd like to have read/write access to that value. So, I have an implementation like this: public abstract class Base { public abstract DateTime StartTime { get; } } public class Foo : Base { DateTime start_time_; public override DateTime StartTime { get { return start_time_; } internal set { start_time_ = value; } } } But, this gives me the error: Foo.cs(200,22): error CS0546: 'Foo.StartTime.set': cannot override because 'Base.StartTime' does not have an overridable set accessor I don't want the base class to have write access. But, I do want the concrete class to provide read/write access. Is there a way to make this work? Thanks, PaulH Unfortunately, Base can't be changed to an interface as it contains non-abstract functionality also. Something I should have thought to put in the original problem description. public abstract class Base { public abstract DateTime StartTime { get; } public void Buzz() { // do something interesting... } } My solution is to do this: public class Foo : Base { DateTime start_time_; public override DateTime StartTime { get { return start_time_; } } internal void SetStartTime { start_time_ = value; } } It's not as nice as I'd like, but it works.

    I'm now working on a project and I have one class that implements the ArrayAccess interface. Howewer, I'm getting an error that says that my implementation: must be compatible with that of ArrayAccess::offsetSet(). My implementation looks like this: public function offsetSet($offset, $value) { if (!is_string($offset)) { throw new \LogicException("..."); } $this->params[$offset] = $value; } So, to me it looks like my implementation is correct.     I am trying to call a WebService and it requires me to prepare an XML digital signature interface. I came across this website and it shows how to sign an XML document. My problem now is that I do not create the XML document myself. However, in order to sign the SOAP message, I need to pass in the XML file that needs to be signed. I tried to serialize the object and cast it as XML and pass it into the signature interface but I do not have another method that I can invoke to call the webmethod. Is there any other solution?

  • Force the use of interface instead of concrete implementation in declaration (.NET)

    In C++, you can do the following: class base_class { public: virtual void do_something() = 0; }; class derived_class : public base_class { private: virtual void do_something() { std::cout << "do_something() called"; } }; The derived_class overrides the method do_something() and makes it private. The effect is, that the only way to call this method is like this: base_class *object = new derived_class(); object->do_something(); If you declare the object as of type derived_class, you can't call the method because it's private: derived_class *object = new derived_class(); object->do_something(); // --> error C2248: '::derived_class::do_something' : cannot access private member declared in class '::derived_class' I think this is quite nice, because if you create an abstract class that is used as an interface, you can make sure that nobody accidentally declares a field as the concrete type, but always uses the interface class. Since in C# / .NET in general, you aren't allowed to narrow the access from public to private when overriding a method, is there a way to achieve a similar effect here?

  • Odd UI bug in Xcode 4.3.2

    I have this annoying UI bug when using xCode 4.3.2. Every time i press the space bar, the whole text scroll view jumps. Does anyone know why this happens, or how to stop it? edit: is happens, for example, when I'm writing comments in the code and the sentence contains a space. IT can be anywhere on the document, even in the center, doesnt have to be at the bottom of the page. After it "jumps" it goes back to where it was.

  • In Word 2010, how can I insert a control that updates a document property when the content is edited?

    In Word 2010 you can insert document properties from the Insert ribbon. For example: Insert > Text > Quick Parts > Document Property > Subject If you do this a control will be added with the following placeholder text: [Subject] Notice the square brackets around the word Subject. These square brackets are not present in the placeholder text for manually inserted controls (which can be inserted using the Developer ribbon). When a user opens the document, replaces the placeholder text with his own text, the document metadata is updated. This behavior is different from a field which can only be updated by first updating the metadata. Unfortunately the range of document properties that can be added to the document is limited, and I would like to add other (custom) properties this way as well. How can I manually insert a control that will update document metadata with the content entered in the control?

  • How to create a HTML5 + SVG document using the PHP XSLTProcessor

    For a little project about XML I try to use HTML5 as it has SVG and WAI-ARIA Support. I also want to use a XSL stylesheet for my document. But I can't get a valid HTML5 document with a nested SVG. Here are some version I tested so far: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"> <xsl:output indent="yes" method="xml"/> <xsl:template match="/"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> // content with the svg tag in the body </html> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> In combination with header('Content-Type: application/xml'); it works and produces this HTML output: <?xml version="1.0"?> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> // content with the svg tag in the body </html> But it is not HTML5 and without a DOCTYPE I get a lot of errors on the W3 validator. So trying to get a HTML5 document I used the following XSL: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"> <xsl:output indent="yes" method="html"/> <xsl:template match="/"> <xsl:text disable-output-escaping='yes'>&lt;!DOCTYPE HTML></xsl:text> <html> // content with the svg tag in the body </html> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> But unfortunately that will produce thze following HTML output: <!DOCTYPE HTML> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> .... </head> // content with the svg tag in the body </html> As you can see it's regular HTML5 but using it in combination with header('Content-Type: application/xml'); it fails because of the missing slash at the end of the meta tag (which was automatically created). Using header('Content-Type: image/xhtml+svg'); or header('Content-Type: text/html'); there is no XML parsing error, but the page will not show the SVG as a graph but as text (without the tags). Can anyone tell me how to avoid the meta tag to be inserted or how to set a propper Content-Type that will make the browser rendern the SVG. Or even any other hint to get this working. I would really like to keep HTML5 to be able to keep the WAI-ARIA Landmark Roles an the HTML5 tags like NAV and FOOTER.

  • Can't get IPv6 address using radvd on wireless interface on windows, wired works fine.

    I set up my router to use OpenWRT and set it up to use IPv6 using a tunnel form SixXs. I'm having problems with stateless autoconfiguration using radvd. On my computer, wired connection can get its IPv6 address fine, but wireless can't. After spending some time on OpenWRT forums, I'm pretty much sure now that router is set up fine and that the problem is with my windows settings. Also, I do not have any problems getting IPv6 address on openSUSE 11.3. So what should I do to solve this and what information should I post?   • Why doesn't the F# Set implement ISet<T>?

    The .NET Framework is adding an ISet<T> interface with the 4.0 release. In the same release, F# is being added as a first-class language. F# provides an immutable Set<'T> class. It would seem logical to me that the immutable set provided would implement the ISet<T> interface, but it doesn't. Does anyone know why? My guess is that they didn't want to implement an interface intended to be mutable, but I don't think this explanation holds up. After all, their Map<'Key, 'Value> class implements IDictionary, which is mutable. And there are examples elsewhere in the framework of classes implementing interfaces that are only partially appropriate. My other thought is that ISet<T> is new, so maybe they didn't get around to it. But that seems kind of thin. Does the fact that ISet<T> is generic (v. IDictionary, which is not) have anything to do with it? Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

  • How to force my method to accept objects from external software?

    I have a method which needs to take a callback object as an argument and then (at the moment when it's needed) my method will call a specific method of the callback object. I wrote a class called Manager which has a method called addListener. As the argument for this method I need to use a callback object which is defined by the external software. So, I define the addListener in the following way: public void addListener(Listener listener). Of course Eclipse complains because it does not know what Listener is (because the Listener is defined by the external software). The only think that I know (should know) about the Listener is that it has a method called doSomething. So, to pleasure Eclipse I add an interface before my Manager class: interface Listener { void doSomething(); } public class CTManager { ... The problem seems to be solved but then I try to test my software. So, I create a class called test. In this class I create an instance of the Manager class and try to use addListener method of this instance. I also create a class Listener, instantiate it and give the instance to the addListener. And it's the place where the problem appears. Eclipse writes that addListener is not applicable to the given argument. I think it's because it expect something from my Listenr interface but gets something from the Listener class. How can I solve this problem?

  • Use of Java [Interfaces / Abstract classes]

    Hello, Lately i decided to take a look at Java so i am still pretty new to it and also to the approach of OO programming, so i wanted to get some things straight before learning more, (i guess it's never to soon to start with good practices). I am programming a little 2D game for now but i think my question applies to any non trivial project. For the simplicity i'll provide examples from my game. I have different kinds of zombies, but they all have the same attributes (x, y, health, attack etc) so i wrote an interface Zombie which i implement by WalkingZombie, RunningZombie TeleportingZombie etc. Is this the best thing to do? Am i better of with an abstract class? Or with a super class? (I am not planning to partially implement functions - therefor my choice for an interface instead of an abstract class) I have one class describing the main character (Survivor) and since it is pretty big i wanted to write an interface with the different functions, so that i can easily see and share the structure of it. Is it good practice? Or is it simply a waste of space and time? I hope this question will not be rated as subjective because i thought that experienced programmers won't disagree about this kind of topic since the use of interfaces / super classes / abstract classes follows logical rules and is thereby not simply a personal choice.   • Excel I have a .Net object compiled as a tlb but cant not access any methods apart from Dispose.

    Hi This is ongoing issue to something I posted yesterday. I have a .net object that I want to use in Excel. I have an existing VBA script that i need to alter to call this the object from. I have then converted the object to a TLB. I've not really touched on this area before so any help will be appreciated.     Hello, I am trying to edit a word document from VB.NET using for the most part this code: How to automate Word from Visual Basic .NET to create a new document http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316383 It works fine on my machine but when i publish to the server i get the following error. Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {000209FF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80070005. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {000209FF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80070005. The actual error happens when i try to just create a word application object Dim oWord As New Word.Application Using Visual Studio 2008 and VB.NET 3.5. I made a reference to the "Microsoft Word 10.0 Object Library" and i see Interop.Word.dll file in the bin directory. Using MS Office 2003 on development machine and Windows Server 2003 Still fairly new to .NET and don't have much knowledge about window server, but "UnauthorizedAccessException" sounds like a permission issue. I'm wondering if someone could point me in the right direction on what i might need to do to give my little application access to use word. Thank you so much for your time.

  • Validation using JAXB and Stax to marshal XML document

    I have created an XML schema (foo.xsd) and used xjc to create my binding classes for JAXB. Let's say the root element is "collection" and I am writing N "document" objects, which are complex types. Because I plan to write out large XML files, I am using Stax to write out the "collection" root element, and JAXB to marshal document subtrees using Marshaller.marshal(JAXBElement, XMLEventWriter). This is the approach recommended by jaxb's unofficial user's guide: https://jaxb.dev.java.net/guide/Different_ways_of_marshalling.html#Marshalling_into_a_subtree My question is, how can I validate the XML while it's being marshalled? If I bind a schema to the JAXB marshaller (using Marshaller.setSchema()), I get validation errors because I am only marshalling a subtree (it's complaining that it's not seeing the "collection" root element"). I suppose what I really want to do is bind a schema to the Stax XMLEventWriter or something like that. Any comments on this overall approach would be helpful. Basically I want to be able to use JAXB to marshal and unmarshal large XML documents without running out of memory, so if there's a better way to do this let me know.
