• Migrate Spring JPA DAO unit testing to google app engine

  I'm trying to put together a simple environment where I can get Spring, Maven, JPA, Google App Engine and DAO unit testing working happily all together. The goal is to be able to run a simple DAO unit test creating an entity and then load it again with a simple find to check it's been created properly - all of this from my maven build. My dao is making use of the JPA entity manager (query(), persist(), etc.) I've got it working no problem with hsqldb and a datasource, etc. but I'm struggling to get it working with appengine. My questions are: 1) I'm using an entity manager, injecting my persistence unit as followed. Is it OK? Is there any need for a datasource or something special? What about versions ? I found loads of things about appengine-api-labs/stubs/testing but none them got it working i.e. I'm getting jdo dependency missing while I'm using JPA... I also get loads of conflicts when I try to add some jars (datanucleus and stuff). So far I'm trying appengine-api-1.0-sdk v1.7.0 - ASM-all v3.3 - datanucleus core/api-jpa/enhancer v3.1.0 - datanucleus-appengine v2.0.1.1 and all the gae testing jars v1.7.0 3) Is there anything I need to add to my surefire plugin (test runner) to make sure it picks up all the dependencies? I'm getting an exhausting ClassNotFound on DatastorePersistenceProvider while it is in my classpath (I checked the jars and the mvn dependency:tree) I had a look at this but it doesn't seem to be working at all: http://www.vertigrated.com/blog/2011/02/working-maven-3-google-app-engine-plugin-with-gwt-support/ 4) Do I need to use any sot of localhelper to test my DAOs? Would anyone make use of it (a plugin or something) ? 6) Is the gwt-maven plugin any helpful if I don't use gwt - I'm writing a simple webservice making use of appengine, not a GWT app... • Separation of presentation and business logic in PHP

  I am programming my first real PHP website and am wondering how to make my code more readable to myself. The reference book I am using is PHP and MySQL Web Development 4th ed. The aforementioned book gives three approaches to separating logic and content: include files function or class API template system I haven't chosen any of these yet, as wrapping my brains around these concepts is taking some time. However, my code has become some hybrid of the first two as I am just copy-pasting away here and modifying as I go. On presentation side, all of my pages have these common elements: header, top navigation, sidebar navigation, content, right sidebar and footer. The function-based examples in the book suggest that I could have these display functions that handle all the presentation example. So, my page code will be like this: display_header(); display_navigation(); display_content(); display_footer(); However, I don't like this because the examples in the book have these print statements with HTML and PHP mixed up like this: echo "<tr bgcolor=\"".$color."\"><td><a href=\"".$url."\">" ... I would rather like to have HTML with some PHP in the middle, not the other way round. I am thinking of making my pages so that at the beginning of my page, I will fetch all the data from database and put it in arrays. I will also get the data for variables. If there are any errors in any of these processes, I will put them into error strings. Then, at the HTML code, I will loop through these arrays using foreach and display the content. In some cases, there will be some variables that will be shown. If there is an error variable that is set, I will display that at the proper position. (As a side note: The thing I do not understand is that in most example code, if some database query or whatnot gives an error, there is always: else echo 'Error'; This baffles me, because when the example code gives an error, it is sometimes echoed out even before the HTML has started...) For people who have used ASP.NET, I have gotten somewhat used to the code-behind files and lblError and I am trying to do something similar here. The thing I haven't figured out is how could I do this "do logic first, then presentation" thing so that I would not have to replicate for example the navigation logic and navigation presentation in all of the pages. Should I do some include files or could I use functions here but a little bit differently? Are there any good articles where these "styles" of separating presentation and logic are explained a little bit more thoroughly. The book I have only has one paragraph about this stuff. What I am thinking is that I am talking about some concepts or ways of doing PHP programming here, but I just don't know the terms for them yet. I know this isn't a straight forward question, I just need some help in organizing my thoughts.

• How to develop an english .com domain value rating algorithm?

  I've been thinking about an algorithm that should rougly be able to guess the value of an english .com domain in most cases. For this to work I want to perform tests that consider the strengths and weaknesses of an english .com domain. A simple point based system is what I had in mind, where each domain property can be given a certain weight to factor it's importance in. I had these properties in mind: domain character length Eg. initially 20 points are added. If the domain has 4 or less characters, no points are substracted. For each extra character, one or more points are substracted on an exponential basis (the more characters, the higher the penalty). domain characters Eg. initially 20 points are added. If the domain is only alphabetic, no points are substracted. For each non-alhabetic character, X points are substracted (exponential increase again). domain name words Scans through a big offline english database, including non-formal speech, eg. words like "tweet" should be recognized. Question 1 : where can I get a modern list of english words for use in such application? Are these lists available for free? Are there lists like these with non-formal words? The more words are found per character, the more points are added. So, a domain with a lot of characters will still not get a lot of points. words hype-level I believe this is a tricky one, but this should be the cause to differentiate perfect but boring domains from perfect and interesting domains. For example, the following domain is probably not that valueable: www.peanutgalaxy.com The algorithm should identify that peanuts and galaxies are not very popular topics on the web. This is just an example. On the other side, a domain like www.shopdeals.com should ring a bell to the hype test, as shops and deals are quite popular on the web. My initial thought would be to see how often these keywords are references to on the web, preferably with some database. Question 2: is this logic flawed, or does this hype level test have merit? Question 3: are such "hype databases" available? Or is there anything else that could work offline? The problem with eg. a query to google is that it requires a lot of requests due to the many domains to be tested. domain name spelling mistakes Domains like "freemoneyz.com" etc. are generally (notice I am making a lot of assumptions in this post but that's necessary I believe) not valueable due to the spelling mistakes. Question 4: are there any offline APIs available to check for spelling mistakes, preferably in javascript or some database that I can use interact with myself. Or should a word list help here as well? use of consonants, vowels etc. A domain that is easy to pronounce (eg. Google) is usually much more valueable than one that is not (eg. Gkyld). Question 5: how does one test for such pronuncability? Do you check for consonants, vowels, etc.? What does a valueable domain have? Has there been any work in this field, where should I look? That is what I came up with, which leads me to my final two questions. Question 6: can you think of any more english .com domain strengths or weaknesses? Which? How would you implement these? Question 7: do you believe this idea has any merit or all, or am I too naive? Anything I should know, read or hear about? Suggestions/comments? Thanks!

• How to manipulate data after its retrieved via remote database

  So I've used code examples from all over the net and got my app to accurately call a .php file on my server, retrieve the JSON data, then parse the data, and print it. The problem is that its just printing to the screen for sake of the tutorial I was following, but now I need to use that data in other places and need help figuring out that process. The ultimate goal is to return my db query with map coordinates, then plot them on a google map. • bind parent child listview asp.net

  I'm trying to display two linq query results in a prent and child listview. I have the following code which gets the correct values to populate the listviews but when I nest the child listview inside the parent list view, I get an error saying "The name 'ListView2' does not exist in the current context". I presume I need to bind the two listviews in the code behind but my problem is I don't know how or the best way to do this. I have read a couple of posts on similar problems but my lack of knowledge on the subject doesn't make it clear to me. Please can somebody help me figure this out? • How to concatenate the contents of all children of a node in XPath?

  Is it possible with XPath to get a concatenated view of all of the children of a node? I am looking for something like the JQuery .html() method. For example, if I have the following XML: <h3 class="title"> <span class="content">this</span> <span class="content"> is</span> <span class="content"> some</span> <span class="content"> text</span> </h3> I would like an XPath query on "h3[@class='title']" that would give me "this is some text". That is the real question, but if more context/background is helpful, here it is: I am using XPath and I used this post to help me write some complex XSL. In the example above, the "Title 2 is complex" title's text() method returns whitespace. My thought was to use a method like JQuery's .html that would return me "Title 2 is complex"

• Problem with PHP; Posting Hidden Value!!?

  Hi, I have a page which basically allows an admin user to create manager user types (basically a register function. So when the values are submitted, they are stored into the DB, very very basic stuff. However, I have a hidden variable type..reasons are I have 3 different user levels and I have declared they identification as an integer (e.g. 7 = manager, 8 =user etc.) Can someone help me out with how to correctly pass this hidden value so it stores in the database... • merge 2 php arrays which aren't of the same length by value

  Excuse me if this has indeed been asked before, I couldn't see anything that fitted my needs out of the dozens of similar titled posts out there ;) I'm trying to merge 2 php arrays which aren't of the same length, and merge them on a value that exists from identical key = values within both arrays. My first query produces an array from a nested set: array ( 1 => array ( 'node_id' => 1, 'lft' => 1, 'rgt' => 4, 'moved' => 0, 'label' => 'Home', 'entry_id' => 1, 'template_path' => '', 'custom_url' => '/', 'extra' => '', 'childs' => 1, 'level' => 0, 'lower' => 0, 'upper' => 0 ), 2 => array ( 'node_id' => 2, 'lft' => 2, 'rgt' => 3, 'moved' => 0, 'label' => 'Home', 'entry_id' => NULL, 'template_path' => '', 'custom_url' => 'http://google.com/', 'extra' => '', 'childs' => 0, 'level' => 1, 'lower' => 0, 'upper' => 0 ) ); My second array returns some additional key/values I'd like to insert to the above array: array ( 'entry_id' => 1, 'entry_title' => 'This is my title', ); I want to merge both of the arrays inserting the additional information into those that match on the key 'entry_id', as well as keeping the sub arrays which don't match.   My application has a SQLite database in the asset folder. When the user launches my application, the database is created and the tables too. This works fine with a lot of devices (Nexus One, Htc Magic, SGS, X10… and even Htc Desire HD v2.2). My application works with all versions of Android (tested on my device (1.6, 2.2, 2.2.1 Htc Magic) and on the emulator (v1,5 until v2.3). I have just a problem with HTC DESIRE HD v2.2.1 1.72.405.3. • Doing XML extracts with XSLT without having to read the whole DOM tree into memory?

  I have a situation where I want to extract some information from some very large but regular XML files (just had to do it with a 500 Mb file), and where XSLT would be perfect. Unfortunately those XSLT implementations I am aware of (except the most expensive version of Saxon) does not support only having the necessary part of the DOM read in but reads in the whole tree. This cause the computer to swap to death. The XPath in question is //m/e[contains(.,'foobar') so it is essentially just a grep. Is there an XSLT implementation which can do this? Or an XSLT implementation which given suitable "advice" can do this trick of pruning away the parts in memory which will not be needed again? I'd prefer a Java implementation but both Windows and Linux are viable native platforms. EDIT: I found that Saxon 6.5.4 with -Xmx1500m could load my XML, so this allowed me to use my XPaths right now. This is just a lucky stroke so I'd still like to solve this generically - this means scriptable which in turn means no handcrafted Java filtering first. EDIT: Oh, by the way. This is a log file very similar to what is generated by the log4j XMLLayout. The reason for XML is to be able to do exactly this, namely do queries on the log. This is the initial try, hence the simple question. Later I'd like to be able to ask more complex questions - therefore I'd like the query language to be able to handle the input file.

• SQL: Using a CASE Statement to update a 1000 rows at once, how??

  Ok, I would like to use a CASE STATEMENT for this, but I am lost with this. Basically, I need to update a ton of rows, but just on the "position" column. I need to update all "position" values from 0 - count(position) for each id_layout_position column per id_layout column. Here's what I got for a regular update, but I don't wanna throw this into a foreach loop, as it would take forever to do it. • Keeping video viewing statistics breakdown by video time in a database

  I need to keep a number of statistics about the videos being watched, and one of them is what parts of the video are being watched most. The design I came up with is to split the video into 256 intervals and keep the floating-point number of views for each of them. I receive the data as a number of intervals the user watched continuously. The problem is how to store them. There are two solutions I see. Row per every video segment Let's have a database table like this: CREATE TABLE `video_heatmap` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `video_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `position` tinyint(3) unsigned NOT NULL, `views` float NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), UNIQUE KEY `idx_lookup` (`video_id`,`position`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM Then, whenever we have to process a number of views, make sure there are the respective database rows and add appropriate values to the views column. I found out it's a lot faster if the existence of rows is taken care of first (SELECT COUNT(*) of rows for a given video and INSERT IGNORE if they are lacking), and then a number of update queries is used like this: UPDATE video_heatmap SET views = views + ? WHERE video_id = ? AND position >= ? AND position < ? This seems, however, a little bloated. The other solution I came up with is Row per video, update in transactions A table will look (sort of) like this: CREATE TABLE video ( id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, heatmap BINARY (4 * 256) NOT NULL, ... ) ENGINE=InnoDB Then, upon every time a view needs to be stored, it will be done in a transaction with consistent snapshot, in a sequence like this: If the video doesn't exist in the database, it is created. A row is retrieved, heatmap, an array of floats stored in the binary form, is converted into a form more friendly for processing (in PHP). Values in the array are increased appropriately and the array is converted back. Row is changed via UPDATE query. So far the advantages can be summed up like this: First approach Stores data as floats, not as some magical binary array. Doesn't require transaction support, so doesn't require InnoDB, and we're using MyISAM for everything at the moment, so there won't be any need to mix storage engines. (only applies in my specific situation) Doesn't require a transaction WITH CONSISTENT SNAPSHOT. I don't know what are the performance penalties of those. I already implemented it and it works. (only applies in my specific situation) Second approach Is using a lot less storage space (the first approach is storing video ID 256 times and stores position for every segment of the video, not to mention primary key). Should scale better, because of InnoDB's per-row locking as opposed to MyISAM's table locking. Might generally work faster because there are a lot less requests being made. Easier to implement in code (although the other one is already implemented). So, what should I do? If it wasn't for the rest of our system using MyISAM consistently, I'd go with the second approach, but currently I'm leaning to the first one. But maybe there are some reasons to favour one approach or another?

  Am I able to apply "where" statements to PHP arrays, similar to how I would be able to apply a "where" statement to a MySQL query?   I'm loading the .ui file, where one of the widgets (QComboBox) has a dynamic property (http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-5/properties.html#dynamic-properties). For instance, the global pos is exactly 600,230 but row-column pair is randomly (5,3) and (4,3). I mean, what?! Also, when i click to an item from the last to rows (later than 13, i guess) will never go into condition "if (clickedItem && clickedItem-column()1 && clickedItem-row()0)", i think it's mainly because 'clickedItem' is null.   I've written a program which should query the Terminal Services API and print out some state information about the sessions running on a terminal services box. I'm using the WTSQuerySessionInformation function to do this and it's returning some data but most of the data seems to be missing... Does anyone know why? • Configuring UCM cache to check for external Content Server changes

  Recently, I was involved in a customer scenario where they were modifying the Content Server's contributor data files directly through Content Server.  This operation of course is completely supported.  However, since the contributor data file was modified through the "backdoor", a running WebCenter Spaces page, which also used the same data file, would not get the updates immediately.  This was due to two reasons.  The first reason is that the Spaces page was using Content Presenter to display the contents of the data file. The second reason is that the Spaces application was using the "cached" version of the data file.  Fortunately, there is a way to configure cache so backdoor changes can be picked up more quickly and automatically. First a brief overview of Content Presenter.  The Content Presenter task flow enables WebCenter Spaces users with Page-Edit permissions to precisely customize the selection and presentation of content in a WebCenter Spaces application.  With Content Presenter, you can select a single item of content, contents under a folder, a list of items, or query for content, and then select a Content Presenter based template to render the content on a page in a Spaces application.  In addition to displaying the folders and the files in a Content Server, Content Presenter integrates with Oracle Site Studio to allow you to create, access, edit, and display Site Studio contributor data files (Content Server Document) in either a Site Studio region template or in a custom Content Presenter display template.  More information about creating Content Presenter Display Template can be found in the OFM Developers Guide for WebCenter Portal. The easiest way to configure the cache is to modify the WebCenter Spaces Content Server service connection setting through Enterprise Manager.  From here, under the Cache Details, there is a section to set the Cache Invalidation Interval.  Basically, this enables the cache to be monitored by the cache "sweeper" utility.  The cache sweeper queries for changes in the Content Server, and then "marks" the object in cache as "dirty".  This causes the application in turn to get a new copy of the document from the Content Server that replaces the cached version.  By default the initial value for the Cache Invalidation Interval is set to 0 (minutes).  This basically means that the sweeper is OFF.  To turn the sweeper ON, just set a value (in minutes).  The mininal value that can be set is 2 (minutes): Just a note.  In some instances, once the value of the Cache Invalidation Interval has been set (and saved) in the Enterprise Manager UI, it becomes "sticky" and the interval value cannot be set back to 0.  The good news is that this value can also be updated throught a WLST command.   The WLST command to run is as follows: setJCRContentServerConnection(appName, name, [socketType, url, serverHost, serverPort, keystoreLocation, keystorePassword, privateKeyAlias, privateKeyPassword, webContextRoot, clientSecurityPolicy, cacheInvalidationInterval, binaryCacheMaxEntrySize, adminUsername, adminPassword, extAppId, timeout, isPrimary, server, applicationVersion]) One way to get the required information for executing the command is to use the listJCRContentServerConnections('webcenter',verbose=true) command.  For example, this is the sample output from the execution: ------------------ UCM ------------------ Connection Name: UCM Connection Type: JCR External Appliction ID: Timeout: (not set) CIS Socket Type: socket CIS Server Hostname: webcenter.oracle.local CIS Server Port: 4444 CIS Keystore Location: CIS Private Key Alias: CIS Web URL: Web Server Context Root: /cs Client Security Policy: Admin User Name: sysadmin Cache Invalidation Interval: 2 Binary Cache Maximum Entry Size: 1024 The Documents primary connection is "UCM" From this information, the completed  setJCRContentServerConnection would be: setJCRContentServerConnection(appName='webcenter',name='UCM', socketType='socket', serverHost='webcenter.oracle.local', serverPort='4444', webContextRoot='/cs', cacheInvalidationInterval='0', binaryCacheMaxEntrySize='1024',adminUsername='sysadmin',isPrimary=1) Note: The Spaces managed server must be restarted for the change to take effect. Once the sweeper is turned ON, only cache objects that have been changed will be invalidated.  To test this out, I will go through a simple scenario.  The first thing to do is configure the Content Server so it can monitor and report on events.  Log into the Content Server console application, and under the Administration menu item, select System Audit Information.  Note: If your console is using the left menu display option, the Administration link will be located there. Under the Tracing Sections Information, add in only "system" and "requestaudit" in the Active Sections.  Check Full Verbose Tracing, check Save, then click the Update button.  Once this is done, select the View Server Output menu option.  This will change the browser view to display the log.  This is all that is needed to configure the Content Server. The most important line to notice is the VCR_GET_DOCUMENT_BY_NAME invocation.  On subsequent refreshes of these 2 pages, you will notice (after you refresh the Content Server's View Server Output) that there are no further traces of the same VCR_GET_DOCUMENT_BY_NAME invocations.  This is because the pages are getting the documents from the cache. The next step is to go through the "backdoor" and change one of the documents through the Content Server console.  This operation can be done by first locating the data file document, and from the Content Information page, select Edit Data File menu option.   This invokes the Site Studio Contributor, where the modifications can be made. • Reading php generated XML in flash?

  Here is part 1 of our problem (Loading a dynamically generated XML file as PHP in Flash). Now we were able to get Flash to read the XML file, but we can only see the Flash render correctly when tested(test movie) from the actual Flash program. However, when we upload our files online to preview the Flash does not render correctly, missing some vital information(thumbnails, titles, video etc..).
