• Overriding windows authentication for a .NET application

  I have a .NET application where the homepage (default.aspx) should be accessible by anyone. There is also a reporting page (reporting.aspx) that I want to secure via windows authentication and only allow access to a particular set of AD groups. Right now the way my web.config is setup it is securing the reporting page but on the home page it prompts the user for login credentials. If they hit esc they can continue to the page though so it isnt actually securing it. I need to prevent it from prompting the user. How do i need to setup my config.   First of all, for those that don't know pashua is a tool for creating native Aqua dialog windows. Or the second way which I was thinking, was create get the output then append it into the middle text file containing the pashua runtime, then execute it, maybe slightly hacky, but I would imagine it will do the job. Any ideas? ++ I know I probably could make my life a lot easier, by doing this in actionscript and cocoa, although at present don't have time for such a learning curve, although I do plan to get round to it.

  I need to display a real time data from MS SQL 2005. I saw some blogs that recommend Ajax to solve my problem. Basically, right now I have my default.aspx page only just for a workaround I could able to display the data from my DB. But once I add data manually to my DB there's no updating made. Any suggestions guys to fix this problem? I need to update datagridview with out refreshing the page. • Android broswer crushes on Ajax calls, when viewport meta tag is defined

  I am building a web app, which is intended to run on the Android browser. When I have a webpage that contains any kind of viewport meta tag, like this: <meta name="viewport" content="width=400"/> My webpage crushes on ajax calls. It happens when using the emulator, the actual browser on my nexus one, and on a droid (all running Android 2.1). Without the meta tag, the ajax calls run as they should. Any ideas?

• Hibernate configuration files not found by Axis2

  I am writing a web service to be deployed on Tomcat using Axis2. I am using Hibernate3 to persist data between the web service and a MySQL database. When running the application through by IDE, the method I am exposing through Axis2 works as intended, however when I deploy the .aar to Tomcat, I receive a SOAP Error claiming that hibernate.cfg.xml cannot be found. However, inside the .aar, I clearly see that all the configuration file and all the mapping files are included. I have determined a workaround: If I place the resulting files from the Netbeans build/class folder into the axis2/WEB-INF/class folder, then the application works as expected. My question, then, is is there a better way to deploy my application so that Axis2 will pick up the configuration and mapping files through the deployed .aar without my manually having to copy the contents of the build/class folder into the axis2/WEB-INF/class folder?

• Workflow foundation 4.0 message correlation and error reporting

  I have a workflow service that runs and performs a number of different operations (such as web service calls). If one of these operations fails I call an error reporting web service to notify a seperate system that one of my workflow operations has failed. As the error could be something like the web service being down, I loop and retry this operation until it works. There can be times though when the data I'm passing to this web service is faulty and it needs changing. So I need to be able to hook into this running (but delayed) workflow and change local workflow variables and then re-run the operation. I've looked at message correlation in workflow 4.0 to achieve this but because the delay activity is active in my running workflow instance, any second service call doesn't do anything (it's like the delay activity is blocking any other requests). I've tried setting 'CanCreateInstance' to both true and false but it doesn't help. Thanks!

• How to modularize a JSF/Facelets/Spring application with OSGi?

  I'm working with very large JSF/Facelets applications which use Spring for DI/bean management. My applications have modular structure and I'm currently looking for approaches to standardize the modularization. My goal is to compose a web application from a number of modules (possibly depending on each other). Each module may contain the following: Classes; Static resources (images, CSS, scripts); Facelet templates; Managed beans - Spring application contexts, with request, session and application-scoped beans (alternative is JSF managed beans); Servlet API stuff - servlets, filters, listeners (this is optional). What I'd like to avoid (almost at all costs) is the need to copy or extract module resources (like Facelets templates) to the WAR or to extend the web.xml for module's servlets, filters, etc. It must be enough to add the module (JAR, bundle, artifact, ...) to the web application (WEB-INF/lib, bundles, plugins, ...) to extend the web application with this module. Currently I solve this task with a custom modularization solution which is heavily based on using classpath resources: Special resources servlet serves static resources from classpath resources (JARs). Special Facelets resource resolver allows loading Facelet templates from classpath resources. Spring loads application contexts via the pattern classpath*:com/acme/foo/module/applicationContext.xml - this loads application contexts defined in module JARs. Finally, a pair of delegating servlets and filters delegate request processing to the servlets and filters configured in Spring application contexts from modules. Last days I read a lot about OSGi and I was considering, how (and if) I could use OSGi as a standardized modularization approach. I was thinking about how individual tasks could be solved with OSGi: Static resources - OSGi bundles which want to export static resources register a ResourceLoader instances with the bundle context. A central ResourceServlet uses these resource loaders to load resources from bundles. Facelet templates - similar to above, a central ResourceResolver uses services registered by bundles. Managed beans - I have no idea how to use an expression like #{myBean.property} if myBean is defined in one of the bundles. Servlet API stuff - use something like WebExtender/Pax Web to register servlets, filters and so on. My questions are: Am I inventing a bicycle here? Are there standard solutions for that? I've found a mentioning of Spring Slices but could not find much documentation about it. Do you think OSGi is the right technology for the described task? Is my sketch of OSGI application more or less correct? How should managed beans (especially request/session scope) be handled? I'd be generally graefult for your comments.

• Firefox extension object instantiating

  I want my javascript object to be initialized just once, so each new browser window will not create new data items, new functions, etc... usually we initialize the code at the end of main javascript using load window.addEventListener("load", main.onLoad, false); so once the second browser window opened, the initialization code will start from scratch. However, I would like to re-use the existing object on consequent browsers. Any mechanism that I can use?

  I've implemented some extension methods and put those in separate Class Library project. • ASP.NET MVC and NHibernate coupling

  I have just started learning NHibernate. Over the past few months I have been using IoC / DI (structuremap) and the repository pattern and it has made my applications much more loosely coupled and easier to test. When switching my persistence layer to NHibernate I decided to stick with my repositories. Currently I am creating a new session on each method call but of course this means that I can not benefit from lazy loading. Therefore I wish to implement session-per-request but in doing so this will make my web project dependent on NHibernate (perhaps this is not such a bad thing?). I was planning to inject ISession into my repositories and create and dispose sessions on beginrequest/endrequest events (see http://ayende.com/Blog/archive/2009/08/05/do-you-need-a-framework.aspx) Is this a good approach? Presumably I cannot use session-per-request without having a reference to NHibernate in my web project? Having the web project dependent on NHibernate prompts my next (few) questions - why even bother with the repository? Since my web app is calling services that talk to the repositories, why not ditch the repositories and just add my NHibernate persistance code inside the services? And finally, is there really any need to split out into so many projects. Is a web project and an infrastructure project sufficient? I realise that I have veered off a bit from my original question but it seems that everyone seems to have their own opinion on these topics. Some people use the repository pattern with NHibernate, some don't. Some people stick their mapping files with the related classes, others have a separate project for this. Many thanks, Ben

  I am trying to split the ApplicationContext file in Spring. For ex. the file is testproject-servlet.xml having all the entries. I want to group things logically based on their use in seperate .xml files. • Accessing Spring beans from a Tiles view (JSP)

  In Spring MVC I can access my beans in JSP using JstlView's exposedContextBeanNames (or exposeContextBeansAsAttributes). For example, then, in my JSP I can write (${properties.myProperty). But when the same JSP is a part of a tiles view, these properties aren't accessible. Is possible to configure Tiles properly or access these properties in another way? I'm using Spring MVC 3.0.2 and Tiles 2.2.1. • Spring MVC Project's .war file not able to deploy using JRE in jetty server

I generated a war file(SpringsMVC.war) and placed it in /webapps folder of Jetty server. • CDI SessionScoped Bean instance remains unchanged when login with different user

  I've been looking for the workaround of this problem for rather plenty of time and no result, so I ask question here. Simply speaking, I'm using a CDI SessionScoped Bean User in my project to manage user information and display them on jsf pages. Also container-managed j_security_check is used to resolve authentication issue. Everything is fine if first logout with session.invalidate() and then login in the same browser tab with a different user. But when I tried to directly login (through login.jsf) with a new user without logout beforehand, I found the user information remaining unchanged. I debugged and found the User bean, as well as the HttpSession instance, always remaining the same if login with different users in the same browser, as long as session.invalidate() not invoked. We can see that the instance(1st row) the same while session id(2nd row) different. Seems that session object is reused to contain different session id and CDI framework manages session bean life cycle in accordance with the session object only(?). I'm wondering whether there could be only one server-side session object within the same browser unless invalidated? Since I'm adopting j_security_check I fancy intercepting it and invalidating old session is not so easy. So is it possible to accomplish the goal without altering the CDI+JSF+j_security_check design that one can relogin with different account in the same or different tab within the same browser? Really look forward for your response. More info: Glassfish v3.1 is my appserver.

  Per the above I am trying to re-target a fresh ASP.NET MVC 2 application in Visual Studio 2010 RTM. After all sorts of tweaking the closest I am getting is the error below: The primary reference "System.Web.Mvc, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35, processorArchitecture=MSIL" could not be resolved because it has an indirect dependency on the framework assembly "System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" which could not be resolved in the currently targeted framework. ".NETFramework,Version=v3.5". To resolve this problem, either remove the reference "System.Web.Mvc, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35, processorArchitecture=MSIL" or retarget your application to a framework version which contains "System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a".
