  • Maintaining ViewModel fields with default model binding and failed validation

    - by TonE
    I have an ASP.Net MVC Controller with a 'MapColumns' action along with a corresponding ViewModel and View. I'm using the defaultModelBinder to bind a number of drop down lists to a Dictionary in the ViewModel. The view model also contains an IList field for both source and destination columns which are used to render the view. My question is what to do when validation fails on the Post call to the MapColumns action? Currently the MapColumns view is returned with the ViewModel resulting from the default binding. This contains the Dictionary values but not the two lists used to render the page. What is the best way to re-provide these to the view? I can set them explicitly after failed validation, but if obtaining these values (via GetSourceColumns() and GetDestinationColumns() in the example) carries any overhead this doesn't seem ideal. What I am looking for is a way to retain these lists when they are not bound to the model from the view. Here is some code to illustrate: public class TestViewModel { public Dictionary<string, string> ColumnMappings { get; set; } public List<string> SourceColumns; public List<string> DestinationColumns; } public class TestController : Controller { [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Get)] public ActionResult MapColumns() { var model = new TestViewModel; model.SourceColumns = GetSourceColumns(); model.DestinationColumns = GetDestinationColumns(); return View(model); } [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult MapColumns(TestViewModel model) { if( Validate(model) ) { // Do something with model.ColumnMappings RedirectToAction("Index"); } else { // Here model.SourceColumns and model.DestinationColumns are empty return View(model); } } } The relevant section of MapColumns.aspx: <% int columnCount = 0; foreach(string column in Model.targetColumns) {%> <tr> <td> <input type="hidden" name="ColumnMappings[<%= columnCount %>].Value" value="<%=column %>" /> <%= Html.DropDownList("ColumnMappings[" + columnCount + "].Key", Model.DestinationColumns.AsSelectItemList())%> </td> </tr> <% columnCount++; }%>

  • Model Validation for record creation in rails

    - by Elliot
    Hey Guys, Lets say the model for books is: created_at user_id (int) author_id (int) genre_id (int) pages (int) I want to let people change the "created_at" field upon record creation. I also want to make sure that a record can't have the exact same created_at, user_id, and author_id as any other record (i.e. each needs its own date). Whats the best to perform this type of validation, and how should I go about doing it? Best, Elliot

  • jQuery Validation Arguments

    - by Idsa
    jQuery Validation plugin has "element" argument for required rule. I know how to use it for inline functions but what if I want to pass it to out-of-line JS function? I tried this: rules: { startHours: { required: startTimeRequired(element) }, but it didn't work.

  • CSS rgba Background Color Validation

    - by SHiNKiROU
    I found a weird CSS validation result: when rgba() is used to background, it does not validate, however, the workaround is rgba() for background-color. Why that rule exists? Is it a validator's bug? Try to validate the following there, and you can see the result: div { background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5); } and div { background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5); }

  • Should we have Browser Side Validation

    - by Raju
    For a back office application which is going to be used in house and users trained to use it, does it make sense to have browser side validation. After training users will seldom make mistakes. These mistakes would get caught at the server side. Also bearing in mind that the bandwidth availability is a lesser concern I feel we should avoid browser side validations. This will save the effort of maintaining the same functionality at two places.

  • working validation hint, working word counter but not working together

    - by Sriyani Rathnayaka
    I added a word counter to a my form's textarea... it is something like this... <div> <label>About you:</label> <textarea id="qualification" class="textarea hint_needed" rows="4" cols="30" ></textarea> <span class="hint">explain about you</span> <script type="text/javascript"> $("textarea").textareaCounter(); </script> </div> My problem is when I add textaracounter() like this my validation hint is not working.. when I remover the counter function validation hint is working... this is the jquery for hint message.. $(".hint").css({ "display":"none" }); $("input.hint_needed, select.hint_needed, textarea.hint_needed, radio.hint_needed").on("mouseenter", function() { $(this).next(".hint").css({ "display":"inline" }); }).on("mouseleave", function() { $(this).next(".hint").css({ "display":"none" }); }); this is for the word counter.. (function($){ $.fn.textareaCounter = function(options) { // setting the defaults // $("textarea").textareaCounter({ limit: 100 }); var defaults = { limit: 150 }; var options = $.extend(defaults, options); // and the plugin begins return this.each(function() { var obj, text, wordcount, limited; obj = $("#experience"); obj.after('<span style="font-weight: bold; color:#6a6a6a; clear: both; margin: 3px 0 0 150px; float: left; overflow: hidden;" id="counter-text">Max. '+options.limit+' words</span>'); obj.keyup(function() { text = obj.val(); if(text === "") { wordcount = 0; } else { wordcount = $.trim(text).split(" ").length; } if(wordcount > options.limit) { $("#counter-text").html('<span style="color: #DD0000;">0 words left</span>'); limited = $.trim(text).split(" ", options.limit); limited = limited.join(" "); $(this).val(limited); } else { $("#counter-text").html((options.limit - wordcount)+' words left'); } }); }); }; })(jQuery); can anybody tell me what is the problem there?   • App Engine Django Form Uniqueness Validation?

    - by GeekTantra
    Is there a simpler way to use uniqueness validation with Django Forms in AppEngine? I understand that performance would be problem if we keep an uniqueness constraint but since the amount of data being added is very small performance is not a big concern, rather development time is a concern here. Any help is appreciated.
