  • Rails Functional test assert_select javascript respond_to

    Hello, I am currently trying to write functional tests for a charging form which gets loaded on to the page via AJAX(jQuery). It loads the form from the charge_form action which returns the consult_form.js.erb view. This all works, but I am having trouble with my testing. In the functional I can go to the action but I cannot use assert_select to find a an element and verify that the form is in fact there. Error: 1) Failure: test_should_create_new_consult(ConsultsControllerTest) [/test/functional/consults_controller_test.rb:8]: Expected at least 1 element matching "h4", found 0. <false> is not true.   • C# Confusing Results from Performance Test

    I am currently working on an image processing application. The application captures images from a webcam and then does some processing on it. The app needs to be real time responsive (ideally < 50ms to process each request). I have been doing some timing tests on the code I have and I found something very interesting (see below). clearLog(); log("Log cleared"); camera.QueryFrame(); camera.QueryFrame(); log("Camera buffer cleared"); Sensor s = t.val; log("Sx: " + S.X + " Sy: " + S.Y); Image<Bgr, Byte> cameraImage = camera.QueryFrame(); log("Camera output acuired for processing"); Each time the log is called the time since the beginning of the processing is displayed. Here is my log output: [3 ms]Log cleared [41 ms]Camera buffer cleared [41 ms]Sx: 589 Sy: 414 [112 ms]Camera output acuired for processing The timings are computed using a StopWatch from System.Diagonostics. QUESTION 1 I find this slightly interesting, since when the same method is called twice it executes in ~40ms and when it is called once the next time it took longer (~70ms). Assigning the value can't really be taking that long right? QUESTION 2 Also the timing for each step recorded above varies from time to time. The values for some steps are sometimes as low as 0ms and sometimes as high as 100ms. Though most of the numbers seem to be relatively consistent. I guess this may be because the CPU was used by some other process in the mean time? (If this is for some other reason, please let me know) Is there some way to ensure that when this function runs, it gets the highest priority? So that the speed test results will be consistently low (in terms of time). EDIT I change the code to remove the two blank query frames from above, so the code is now: clearLog(); log("Log cleared"); Sensor s = t.val; log("Sx: " + S.X + " Sy: " + S.Y); Image<Bgr, Byte> cameraImage = camera.QueryFrame(); log("Camera output acuired for processing"); The timing results are now: [2 ms]Log cleared [3 ms]Sx: 589 Sy: 414 [5 ms]Camera output acuired for processing The next steps now take longer (sometimes, the next step jumps to after 20-30ms, while the next step was previously almost instantaneous). I am guessing this is due to the CPU scheduling. Is there someway I can ensure the CPU does not get scheduled to do something else while it is running through this code?

  • Function lfit in numerical recipes, providing a test function

    Hi I am trying to fit collected data to a polynomial equation and I found the lfit function from Numerical Recipes. I only have access to the second edition, so am using that. I have read about the lfit function and its parameters, one of which is a function pointer, given in the documentation as void (*funcs)(float, float [], int)) with the help The user supplies a routine funcs(x,afunc,ma) that returns the ma basis functions evaluated at x = x in the array afunc[1..ma]. I am struggling to understand how this lfit function works. An example function I found is given below: void fpoly(float x, float p[], int np) /*Fitting routine for a polynomial of degree np-1, with coe?cients in the array p[1..np].*/ { int j; p[1]=1.0; for (j=2;j<=np;j++) p[j]=p[j-1]*x; } When I run through the source code for the lfit function in gdb I can see no reference to the funcs pointer. When I try and fit a simple data set with the function, I get the following error message. Numerical Recipes run-time error... gaussj: Singular Matrix ...now exiting to system... Clearly somehow a matrix is getting defined with all zeroes. I am going to involve this function fitting in a large loop so using another language is not really an option. Hence why I am planning on using C/C++. No sql statements are being logged. However if I make use of Nhibernate Profiler and invoke this in my test case: NHibernateProfiler.Intialize() Where NHProf uses a similar approach to capture logging output from NHibernate for analysis via log4net etc. then my QueryCounter starts working. It looks like I'm missing something in my code to get log4net configured correctly for logging nhibernate sql ... does anyone have any pointers on what else I need to do to get sql logging output from Nhibernate?

    I should say that I’m fan of regular expressions. Whenever I see the problem, which I can solve with Regex, I felt a burning desire to do it and going to write new test for new regex. Previously I had installed SharpDevelop Studio just for good regular expression tool in it (Why VS doesn’t have one?). But now I’m a little wiser, and for each Regex I write a separate test. I find it difficult to remember the syntax of regular expressions (I don’t write them very often); I always forget which character is responsible for the beginning of the line, etc. So I use external small and easy articles like this “Regular expressions - An introduction”.   • Is deserializing complex objects instead of creating them a good idea, in test setup?

    I'm writing tests for a component that takes very complex objects as input. These tests are mixes of tests against already existing components, and test-first tests for new features. Instead of re-creating my input objects (this would be a large chunk of code) or reading one from our data store, I had the thought to serialize a live instance of one of these objects, and just deserialize it into test setup. I can't decide if this is a reasonable idea that will save effort in long run, or whether it's the worst idea that I've ever had, causing those that will maintain this code will hunt me down as soon as they read it. Is deserialization of inputs a valid means of test setup in some cases? To give a sense of scale of what I'm dealing with, the size of serialization output for one of these input objects is 93KB. Obtained by, in C#: new BinaryFormatter().Serialize((Stream)fileStream, myObject);

  • Now that Device Central is dead, how can I test my Flash Lite applications?

    I'm trying to use Flash Lite to make a simple game for my girlfriend, who only has a Nokia 5530, but I just realized in CS6 Adobe killed Device Central, so there's no way for me to test it without the device (and it's supposed to be a surprise). Is there any other way for me to test it? I know I can just export the movie and use Flash Player, but Device Central allowed me to test drag and drop and memory/processor usage for example... tl;dr, is there an alternative to Device Central for testing Flash Lite in older devices?

    A potential employer requires me to take an online aptitude test before my interview (in this case the test is for C, from Previsor). Where can I take the same (or similar) test so I have a rough idea on what I should brush up on? I've taken a similar test for C++ previously, so I have some idea of what to expect. I've also been studying my C books thoroughly (especially the required material as described in the PDF), but I feel it would be a good idea to get a feel for the particular test before taking it. I did a quick search on Brainbench, but they don't seem to have a C test, unless I'm mistaken (only C++). Note: I'm happy to pay to take a test if no decent free ones are available.

  • How can I start a TCP server in the background during a Perl unit test?

    I am trying to write a unit test for a client server application. To test the client, in my unit test, I want to first start my tcp server (which itself is another perl file). I tried to start the TCP server by forking: if (! fork()) { system ("$^X server.pl") == 0 or die "couldn't start server" } So when I call make test after perl Makefile.PL, this test starts and I can see the server starting but after that the unit test just hangs there. So I guess I need to start this server in background and I tried the & at the end to force it to start in background and then test to continue. But, I still couldn't succeed. What am I doing wrong?   • Rails 2.3.5 table populated by fixtures at end of test run rather than at start

    I start with a test database containing the schema but with no data in the tables. I run a test like so cd test/ ruby unit/directive_test.rb I get failures indicating that the code found no data in the data tables. However, I look at the tables after running that test and the data is now in the the table. In fact, if I immediately run the test again I get no failures. So it appears that the fixture is being loaded into the table too late for one of my modules to find it. When are the fixtures loaded? After or before the app/model/*.rb files are executed? If it is after the models are executed is there a way to delay the loading? This issue is also relevant when running rake test:units since that task clears the test data after it finished.

There are a variety of tools available to help you and Support diagnose SOA Suite issues in 11g but it can be confusing as to which tool is appropriate for a particular situation and what their relationships are. This blog post will introduce the various tools and attempt to clarify what each is for and how they are related. Let's first list the tools we'll be addressing: RDA: Remote Diagnostic Agent DFW: Diagnostic Framework Selective Tracing DMS: Dynamic Monitoring Service ODL: Oracle Diagnostic Logging ADR: Automatic Diagnostics Repository ADRCI: Automatic Diagnostics Repository Command Interpreter WLDF: WebLogic Diagnostic Framework This overview is not mean to be a comprehensive guide on using all of these tools, however, extensive reference materials are included that will provide many more details on their execution. Another point to note is that all of these tools are applicable for Fusion Middleware as a whole but specific products may or may not have implemented features to leverage them. A couple of the tools have a WebLogic Scripting Tool or 'WLST' interface. WLST is a command interface for executing pre-built functions and custom scripts against a domain. Sales reps don’t know where the customer orders are stuck (no visibility) and finance users are unable to manually approve every order (no automation).   • How to unit test synchronized code

    Hi, I am new to Java and junit. I have the following peice of code that I want to test. Would appreciate if you could send your ideas about what's the best way to go about testing it. Basically, the following code is about electing a leader form a Cluster. The leader holds a lock on the shared cache and services of the leader get resumed and disposed if it somehow looses the lock on the cache.   • Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError

    I have a piece of code and I could not figure out why it is giving me Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError. This is the question: Given a positive integer n, prints out the sum of the lengths of the Syracuse sequence starting in the range of 1 to n inclusive. So, for example, the call: lengths(3) will return the the combined length of the sequences: 1 2 1 3 10 5 16 8 4 2 1 which is the value: 11. lengths must throw an IllegalArgumentException if its input value is less than one. I know the problem lies with the recursion. The error does not occur if the input is a small value, example: 5. But when the number is huge, like 90090249, I got the Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError.   • Datamapper In Memory Database

    It is easy to setup Datamapper with a Sqlite3 in memory database with: DataMapper.setup :default, 'sqlite3::memory:'. However, when testing, I'd like to destroy the whole in memory database after each test, instead of invoking automigrate! as a shortcut on dropping everything. Is it possible? Or is it enough to set the default repository to nil, and let the garbage collector dispose of it?

  • What are the pitfalls to watch out for when upgrading MediaWiki?

    We've got MediaWiki 1.13.2 and we'll soon be upgrading to the latest & greatest version (probably 1.16). We've got lots of extensions installed (for which we'll probably also need to get the latest versions) and we've done some minor configuring (e.g. adding new edit buttons). What should we watch out for during the upgrade? And what should we test? Does anyone have any experience of things that went wrong?
