  • Excel - Filling images using a reference image

    I have a spreadsheet that I use to create baseball cards for a tabletop baseball game. There are about 20 cards on my sheet, and I'd like to add a spot where I can set the logo and have it reflect that logo in each card without having to update 20 different images each time I create cards for a new team (and thus, a new logo). Is there a way to automate this process similar to setting one cell equal to the value of another (=A4, for instance)? I think the images aren't part of a cell and they float on top of the sheet, but I had hoped there was a way either with a macro or other VBA function (or maybe something built-in) that would accomplish this.

  • mini linux for browsing media playing

    I'm looking for a small linux install (<100Mb) that can just run a browser and ideally a media player. It's to fit in a spare recovery partition on my laptop and be a quick boot for non-work stuff when I'm on the road. I have used Puppy-linux and DSL before but they have lots of stuff I don't need. Is there something like these that just concentrates on running a browser in the way xbmc does for videos? ps. The size requirement was to fit in the existing 100Mb win7 recovery partition, but that can be resized. The main idea was something that booted very quickly without the 10min wait while windows does all the corporate stuff and realizes it isn't on the LAN - and could be shutdown instantly.

    folks! Now, I have an Excel file with measurements I made of some color patches (I work at a Press company), with a device called spectrophotometer. Here it is: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B0i8fdSf2ihzRlFYNWd4anItenM Density and Hue are two characteristics of each color patch. The thing is: I'm looking at a non-linear increase between the 25 Color Density measurements I took, but I NEED to know exactly how the color's Hue changes as the color's Density increases. For that, I needed Excel to give me round numbers for the X axis (for example 0,70 to 1,50 in 0,05 increments). And for that, obviously, I needed Excel to calculate the probable Hue Values corresponding to those ghost/round/not-given values of Density (like a kind of advanced rule of three). So, can anyone help me on that? Thanks a lot!

  • System halts for a fraction of second after every 2-3 seconds

    I'm using Windows 7 on my HP ProBook 4250s. The problem I face is that my system halts for a fraction of second after every 2-3 seconds. These jerks are not letting me concentrate or work properly. This happens even when I'm just typing in notepad while no other application is running. I tried to install every driver from HP's website and there's no item in device manager marked with yellow icon.   • VMware Fusion won't boot my Boot Camp partition

    I have a Boot Camp partition on my MacBook that I would ultimately like to convert to a VMware virtual machine image. I've installed VMware Fusion and tried to start up my Boot Camp install using the Boot Camp button on the initial welcome screen. It brings up the "VMware Fusion is preparing your Boot Camp partition to run as a virtual machine" dialog, but afterward it shows an error dialog with the following message: Boot Camp partition preprocessing failed. You may not be able to boot your Boot Camp partition as a virtual machine. It then tries to boot the new VM, but it blue screens during the boot process. The info on the blue screen doesn't provide much in the way of help though. Running chkdsk has no effect. After searching around, some people recommended using VMware's stand-alone converter utility from within Windows to create an image, but the utility said it couldn't create an image because my disk uses a GUID Partition Table (GPT). I'm wondering if this is why it can't boot my BC partition from Fusion. Has anyone else run into this and found a fix?

  • IE8 Compatibility View issues

    I have the IE7 emulater tag in a jsp layout. But when I bring up the page, it defaults to the IE8 view until the user clicks the Compatibility View button. I don't want the user to have to click the button to launch compatibility mode. Is there a way to force IE7 Emulation on pageLoad? I'd even like to disable the button (or any potential to toggle between IE8 standard mode/IE7 view). Thanks! //sw Update: Now the button seems to have disappeared entirely, but still defaults to IE8 standards. Where did it go?! The toolbar context menu has it as selected, but the tools dropdown menu has it grayed out. For my purposes, it is unacceptable for the user to have to use the developer tools or even click the button to trigger emulation, but I don't know why the button disappeared anyway...

  • Task Manager: VM Size smaller than Mem usage?

    The windows XP tasks manager can show two different columns regarding the memory usage of the processes. One is called Mem Usage and the other is VM Size (not on by default, you need to activate it) From what I've gathered, VM size is the size of the entire memory space occupied by the process and Mem Usage is the amount of memory currently committed and used. This assumption is verified by most processes when the VM Size is only slightly larger than Mem Usage for instance my Outlook currently has 79,724 K in VM Size and 56,600 K in Mem Usage But it fails for other processes such as Firefox which currently has 171,900 K for Mem Usage and only 156,440 K in VM Size. How can a process use more memory than the amount of virtual memory allocated to it? So Maybe my interpretation of these columns is wrong. What do they actually mean?

  • Windows 7 Loading speed

    I have installed Windows 7 64-bit about two week ago. Since then everything was working alright, but yesterday Windows started to load much slower. Main delay comes while Windows logo is glowing -- it used to be around 10-15 seconds and now it's around 2 minutes. As far as I remember, I have only installed Microsoft IntelliMouse driver recently and removed it today. Unfortunately I found out that I have switched off System Restore some time long ago, so can't even test if the problem can be fixed by restoring old version. How can I troubleshoot the problem? Can I somehow find out what's causing the delay? P.S. Please don't suggest to reinstall Windows. I know that will help, but reinstalling all software and settings is a pain and requires a lot of time.

    Windows 7 has MS virtual PC integrated, the VM settings don't give a parallel LPT port mapping to the physical machine. Where did it go? Has anyone else noticed this, and found a solution? Update: After much digging, I found the one and only reference to this issue, on the VPC Blog: "Parallel port devices are not supported, as they are relatively rare today." -More details- It's a XP VM I've been using since VPC 2007 days, which did have this functionality. This is to configure barcode printers via the LPT port. Since the (new) MS VM can't map to my physical LPT port, I'm having a hard time configuring printers. My physical ports are enabled in the BIOS. It has worked the past 3 years, before switching to Win 7. Any help is appreciated.   • Windows XP corrupts registry every several hours

    There is a Dell XPS 400 with Windows Media Center installer. It is installed on RAID (Intel Matrix Storage) which is built-in chipset south bridge. Raid has two 150 Gb WDC drivers connected as mirror. All drivers and updates are installed( sp3 and so on). A week ago PC changed its video mode to 256 colors (like VESA mode) and after several moments I got BSOD: c000021a: 0xc0000005 Doctor watson did not create dump although it is installed as default debugger. After reboot it said that config file is missing or corrupted. So, I boot to recovery console and found that registry file (config) is so small. I've replaced it with one from recovery point and windows booted sucessfully. But after about 3 hrs -- it has crashed again in the same wat! I look in event viewer: is said that Explorer.exe failed to open \global??\DLIAFS. I look in winobj, and found that it is a device. I made "deny from everyone" for this device ACL, and after several hours my windows crashed. I restored registry, boot again and there was no error about DLIAFS. I did full chkdsk and it did not found anything bad. But I found event about error paging to \Harddrive1\D. I do not have pagefile there, but I thought I should check my disk again. Unfortunatelly I cannt use smart tools for RAID, but I downloaded latest software from Intel (it can do the same things like RAID bios can but from windows). It verified my disks, found some errors, fix them, than I rebooted. And it crashed again. I am lost. What (except kernel debugging) could be done here? Thanks

    I recently created a .html file in TextEdit on my Mac (Mac OS X 10.5.8). I then opened that .html file in my browser and it showed the page I created just fine. I closed the .html file and TextEdit and refreshed the page. It still worked fine. Then I opened up the .html file in TextEdit again and all the text was gone (the page in the browser still works fine though). Where did all the text go?

  • Google Account Changes that Messed Up My Ability to Manage Sites

    I hope you can help... I have a google account that I use to manage my church website. This account is set up with my work email address. My work (a school system) is in the process of changing us all over to use google accounts to replace Outlook. When I logged in to this new account (which is my same email address) it no longer lets me manage my google site.   • Using the Drop Box folder while sharing on Mac OS X, files are locked.

    While using the Drop Box in the Shared folder on two MacBook Pros running Mac OS X 10.6, I noticed that when files were dropped into the drop box they were read only (locked?) when going from one of the laptops to the other (but not necessarily the other direction). Is there a way to change this? My girlfriend nearly had an aneurism because she couldn't rename a file. I duplicated it and deleted the original, but this seems unnecessary.     When I run wireshark on a wired network it works fine and reports all of the packets. When I run it on a wireless network though I only see my own traffic. The wireless card I have is supposed to support packet capture and go into premiscous mode, but I don't see any other system traffic. What is wrong?

    I am trying to install MS SQL Database 2005 on Windows XP Home SP3. It fails giving no reason ("Database failed to install"), then exits. I had already installed MS SQL Database Express Edition 2008 during 2005 setup. But when I removed 2008 one and tried to install 2005 afterwards it still failed with same error. The error happens when I am trying to install Dragon Age Toolset or Visual 2008 Pro edition. I do not known which else informations may be valuable as I never before encountered problems with installing MS database
