• Pasting into Vista cmd.exe broke, why?

  I use Windows Vista x64 and regularly use the command line window CMD.EXE. I have enabled QuickEdit Mode (and Insert Mode and AutoComplete), to be able to quickly copy and paste text. Copying (select block, Enter) works fine. Pasting (right click) text also works, as long as it has been copied inside a CMD.EXE window. When I copied the text somewhere else (in an editor, browser or whatever) however, pasting into CMD.EXE does not work! :-( Using the menu to Edit, Paste does not do anything either, so it's not a mouse thing. I also tried elevating CMD.EXE. I can copy/paste freely between CMD.EXE instances of all sorts: elevated/normal, x64/x86... I'm sure it did work on this machine until relatively recently. What could have happened? Some Windows Update perhaps? The problem has been reported by others, but without a solution.

  When I type help in windows command line, it lists a whole bunch of commands. However I find that there is a whole set of commands that do not appear in this list, for e.g. many networking commands such as ping, tracert, arp, netstat, net etc. I am sure that there is also a whole bunch of non-networking command which is also not listed. So my question is this. Why are these additional commands not shown in help? Is there a subset/group of commands only that help shows? Is there any command/method to list all the commands that can be executed in windows? (I am not talking about additional .exes that get added to path when some new software is installed..)

• Does Windows Move command delete the file only on successful completion?

  This may be a stupid question, but I'm erring on the side of caution here. If I'm using Windows command line/batch files to Move a file from one server to another and we have a network failure, what will happen to the original file? I would assume it remains untouched until fully moved, and then deleted, but I need to be sure. My fear is that it deletes bytes as they are moved, which would be bad. If that isn't the case, is there a better way than Copying the file and Deleting after the copy completes? Thanks for your help. EDIT: I suppose super user would have been better. This is part of a job kicked off by code, so my first thought was to come here.

• Looking for a Linux stream ripper that can be scheduled

  I have an MP3 stream I want to schedule a recording of. I can do it using wget to a file, its just a straight mp3 stream. However I'd like to use a command line stream ripper that will do a better job. Any one know of one? Update 1 WGET is grabbing whatever part of the stream it comes in on. This may not really be the start of a frame in the MP3 file. Also, wget is not really schedule ready. I experimented with starting it with a cron job, then killing it later, this produced a file that didn't really start and stop where I wanted.

How do I avoid duplicating it (i.e. check whether it is already contained in the PATH "string"). • Zip files way larger on a Mac using Finder than the 'zip' command.. 2x larger.

  I have a directory of JPEG's. Each one is roughly 90k, as reported by Photoshop when saving, and also reported by the command line function 'ls'.. When I get the properties for the file with Finder, it's double that, over 220k. Zipping it with finder will also package this bulk as well. Doing the "zip -v test.zip ./dir" command will make a MUCH smaller zip file. Zipping the files on windows also results in a much smaller file size as well, roughly the same to that of the unix zip command. File sizes are also reported correctly on windows. I can't find any mention of this anywhere, so I'm asking here.

• cat contents of one file into another file

  I have a large (binary) file that has some corruption near the beginning. Then, I have a second, smaller file that I obtain by starting to download the same file again, but interrupt after I have enough bytes to fix the original one. My question is, how do I simply overwrite the beginning of the large file with the contents of the second, smaller file? I could use cat, tail and head, but that would create a copy of the file. There must be a more efficient way. Oh yes, and I'm looking for a linux command-line solution, if that wasn't obvious. I'm using bash, but I have other shells if that helps.

  I could be barking up the wrong tree here, but I'm looking for help on installing Apple's Root certificate (http://www.apple.com/certificateauthority/) on a CentOS server via the command line - which I need to send messages to their APNS system. The code I'm using for this purpose is a variation on this: https://github.com/jPaolantonio/SimplePush/blob/master/simplepush.php - which works perfectly well on a Windows server, but as soon as we try to use it on a CentOS one, it falls over. We're lead to believe this has something to do with not having the CA installed on our CentOS box - but all efforts to do so have failed. As the CentOS server is headless, we need the ability to do this via the commandline. Can someone help?

  A task: To find all new files and subfolders under some root folder (let us say Documents) and to copy them to other disk (j: in this case) Command line used: robocopy c:\users\valery\documents j:\robocopy /XO /E /MAXAGE:20131030 /XD Result: A full folders tree created. Only new files copyed, as supposed. It's good A point is, that I do not want to create all subfolders on a target disk, if there are no new files in them. If you see the above command there is "|" pipe operator and echo command to log date and time in test.log Please note that if I execute above DB2 command through separately command line i.e. not through code. I am able to view date and time log along with DB2 command result in test.log. Following is the full command which i executed through command line. DB2CMD /c /i /w DB2 UNCATALOG NODE DB_DATABASE "" test.log | echo %date% %time% test.log According to me since DB2 command is executed successfully through code, there is problem with only usage of "|" pipe operator or echo command.

  Hi everyone, I would like to know is there any way to determine if a cone is intersecting with a (finite)line segment. The cone actually a circle located at P(x,y) with theta degree field of view and radius r. The simple visualization can be found here (sorry i can't post the picture here) I'm trying to do it in C# but I don't have any idea how to that, so for now this is what I'm doing : Check if the line segment is intersecting with the circle If the line segment is intersecting with the circle then I check every single point in the line segment using a function I found here.   I have a script that I need to run with PHP via cron. The original author of the script made a lot of user of certain $_SERVER parameters (like REQUEST_URI). But it appears that certain variables don't exist when running PHP via command line or via CRON. For example, there is no request uri, so it makes sense that the REQUEST_URI parameter wouldn't be available. Is there any way around this other than to completely rewrite the script in order to avoid using special $_SERVER parameters that aren't universally available?
