  I have a duplex Wcf service and I'd like to get a reference to IDuplexChannel, IDuplexSessionChannel or IOutputChannel so that I can use the non-blocking BeginSend method. On my server, inside of the handler for the initiating method I have the following (I have tried every interface that I listed in place of IOutputChannel. None of them seem to exist.) _clientCb = OperationContext.Current.GetCallbackChannel<IDxClientCb>(); _channel = OperationContext.Current.Channel; _duplexChannel = _channel as IOutputChannel; Debug.Print("Service IOutputChannel null: {0}", _duplexChannel == null); Similarly, in the client I have tried to cast the return value of DuplexChannelFactory.CreateChannel() to any of these interfaces and I always get back a null. How do I get a reference to one of these?

  I had the bright idea of using a custom error handler which led me down a rabbit hole. Following code gives (with and without custom error handler): Fatal error: Only variables can be passed by reference function foo(){ $b=array_pop(array("a","b","c")); return $b; } print_r(foo()); Following code gives (only with a custom error handler): (2048) Only variables should be passed by reference function foo(){ $a=explode( '/' , 'a/b/c'); $c=array_pop(array_slice($a,-2,1)); return $c; } print_r(foo()); The second one worries me since I have a lot of 'compact' code. So, I either ditch the bright idea of using a custom error handler (to improve my logging module) or expand all my code. Anyone with better ideas? Also, WTF?

The ideal one should be: compendious and handy, I'm not looking for ECMA standart reference. type specific, even if JS is not strong typed function arguments and returns have a type. browser specific, no matter the standards every browser is different and this ambiguity is killing me. examples, they are always handy. off line, this would be fine but it's not a condition. What is your favourite one? Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope!

  I have a solution with 3 projects. Two of the projects compile fine: SparkleLib and SparkleLib.Cmis The third project (SparkleShare) depends on the two above, so I added them as references, but I get: The type or namespace name 'Cmis' does not exist in the namespace 'SparkleLib'. Are you missing an assembly reference? The error indicates that I should add SparkleLib.Cmis as a reference, but I already added it... I tried deleteting, re-adding, restarting, but no success. It is not a problem with my environment, as my fellow developers are having the same problem.

• Why does PHP overwrite values when I iterate through this array twice (by reference, by value)

  If I iterate through an array twice, once by reference and then by value, PHP will overwrite the last value in the array if I use the same variable name for each loop. This is best illustrated through an example: $array = range(1,5); foreach($array as &$element) { $element *= 2; } print_r($array); foreach($array as $element) { } print_r($array); Output: Array ( [0] = 2 [1] = 4 [2] = 6 [3] = 8 [4] = 10 ) Array ( [0] = 2 [1] = 4 [2] = 6 [3] = 8 [4] = 8 ) Note that I am not looking for a fix, I am looking to understand why this is happening. Also note that it does not happen if the variable names in each loop are not each called $element, so I'm guessing it has to do with $element still being in scope and a reference after the end of the first loop.

• dynamic web reference for use in SSRS

  To use the web service that is part of an SSRS installation, it seems that you need to add a web reference to your project so that you can call it etc (see one of my previous questions). But if I needed to call the web service for different SSRS installations then i need to keep adding extra web references. My asp.net application currently displays reports from several different SSRS installations, not just a single server... Is there a way to either dynamically add the web reference or to dynamically change the server address of where the web service is located?

  Is it possible using Reflection or some other method to obtain a reference to a specific class instance from the name of that class instance? For example the framework for the applications i develop heavily uses public class instances such as: Public bMyreference as MyReference = new MyReference Then throughout the application bMyReference is used by custom controls and code. One of the properties of the custom controls is the "FieldName" which references a Property in these class instances (bMyReference.MyField) as a string. What i would like to be able to do is analyze this string "bMyReference.MyField" and then refer back to the actual Instance/Property. In VB6 I would use an EVAL or something simular to convert the string to an actual object but this obviously doesn't work in VB.net What I'm picturing is something like this Dim FieldName as String = MyControl.FieldName ' sets FielName to bMyReference.MyField Dim FieldObject() as String = FieldName.Split(".") • ASP.Net MVC 2 / EF 4 Reference Issue

  My ASP.Net MVC 2 project references a Domain project where POCO business objects are defined and a Data project where EF 4 POCO persistence is implemented. Things were running well until I had a little fussiness with my version control provider (rollback to previous version left me with merge conflicts). Now, upon launching the MVC 2 project, I get a runtime error: The type 'System.Data.Objects.DataClasses.IEntityWithKey' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data.Entity, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'. However, every project references System.Data.Entity (same version). If I remove the reference to System.Data.Entity from the MVC 2 project, I get the same message as a compile-time error. I'm pretty sure something got messed up when I had the version control issue, but really not sure where to look for this one.

  Most of the apps I've worked on have had some kind of reference data stored in the database, for example categories, zipcodes, area codes etc... this is information that's going to change very infrequently. Most of the time you want to load some kind of display name, and that's it. Currently this isn't causing me too many headaches, it's easy to :include the models I need when doing my queries, but going forward it causes a lot of query noise. Ideally I'd like to load the reference data when the app starts and when referencing it in queries it'll load from the cache instead of going to the database. What's the best way to manage this?

  I've been reading Metaprogramming Ruby and the object model like the chicken or egg dilemma. In Ruby 1.8, the Object class is an instance of Class. Module's superclass is Object and is an instance of Class. Class' superclass is Module, and it is an instance of Class (self-referential). Say class SomeClass; end is defined somewhere; SomeClass is an instance of Class, however its superclass is Object. Why does an instance of Class have Object as the superclass instead of nil? Also, if Object is to exist, then Class has to exist, but then Module has to exist, but for Module to exist Object has to exist. How are these classes created?

Tracing involves identifying live objects only when you need to reclaim space – moving the cost from general access to the time at which the GC runs, typically only when you are out of memory. • Powershell Select-Object from array not working

  I am trying to seperate values in an array so i can pass them to another function. Am using the select-Object function within a for loop to go through each line and separate the timestamp and value fields. However, it doesn't matter what i do the below code only displays the first select-object variable for each line. The second select-object command doesn't seem to work as my output is a blank line for each of the 6 rows.   I'm facing a situation where I have dependent objects and I would like to be able to remove an object and all references to it. Say I have an object structure like the code below, with a Branch type which references two Nodes. public class Node { // Has Some Data! } public class Branch { // Contains references to Nodes public Node NodeA public Node NodeB } public class Graph { public List<Node> Nodes; public List<Branch> Branches; } If I remove a Node from the Nodes list in the Graph class, it is still possible that one or more Branch objects still contains a reference to the removed Node, thus retaining it in memory, whereas really what I would quite like would be to set any references to the removed Node to null and let the garbage collection kick in. Other than enumerating through each Branch and checking each Node reference sequentially, are there any smart ideas on how I remove references to the Node in each Branch instance AND indeed any other class which reference the removed Node?

  I'm transferring my access logs into a database. I've got two tables: urlRequests id : int(10) host : varchar(100) path: varchar(300) unique index (host, path) urlAccesses id : int(10) request : int(10) <-- reference to urlRequests row ip : int(4) query : varchar(300) time : timestamp I need to insert a row into urlAccesses for every page load, but first a row in urlRequests has to exist with the requested host and path so that urlAccesses's row can reference it. I know I can do it this way: A. check if a row exists in urlRequests B. insert a row in urlRequests if it needs it C. insert a row into urlAccesses with the urlRequests's row id referenced That's three queries for every page load if the urlRequests row doesn't exist. I'm very new to MySQL, so I'm guessing that there's a way to go about this that would be faster and use less queries.

  I am trying to build a help screen that is going to go on a mediaplayer. The idea is to put a fragment with a transparent theme on top of the current view. (See How do I create a help overlay like you see in a few Android apps and ICS? for the basic idea). Now, I understand the steps in the mentioned link, but how do I connect the circles and arrows and paragraphs next to each one (explaining what each one was) to the lower object? Example, I have an object: R.id.music_button and I want there to be and arrow that points to music button. Trying to support as many devices as we do it will be very difficult to just draw a few pictures as part of the top layout and expect them to line up. Again, how do I reference an object on a fragment below the top level? Thanks

  Is there some way to pass an object to a windows service? I know the method myServiceController.Star(string[] arg) but i need to pass a more complex object than a string array. Actually, i don't need the object to be passed as a parameter, what i really needs is that the service can use an object created in a windows forms application. I've tried using System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer.Serialize method to convert the object into a Json but i couldn't because the object contains a circular reference. I also tried using pointers, but i couldn't becouse it is a managed type object. Any idea what can i do?

  Hi all, I am using Visual Studio 2008 and CR XI R2 for a web application built in silverlight. currently I am having a problem with showing a dynamic image on a crystal report. I was told that the reference file added in the project might be old version, so I replaced the reference files to be 11.5x version from 10.5x version. I removed all 10.5x dlls and then added 11.5x dlls, but I see 10.5x dlls are added instead. does anybody how to fix this problem? Please help. Thanks,

• Libxml2: undefined reference to xmlTextReaderConstName

  I have installed the latest libxml2-2.8.0, as usual: $ ./configure, $ make, $ make install. The $ xml2-config --cflags --libs gives this output: -I/usr/local/include/libxml2 -L/usr/local/lib -lxml2 -lm But trying to compile any example... $ gcc `xml2-config --cflags --libs` xmltest.c The linker says: /tmp/cc8ezrPl.o: In function `processNode': xmltest.c:(.text+0x19): undefined reference to `xmlTextReaderConstName' xmltest.c:(.text+0x38): undefined reference to `xmlTextReaderConstValue' ...etc. Anything I've googled can be solved by xml2-config --cflags --libs flags, or upgrading to the latest version of libxml2, or something. Unfortunately, neither works for me. What can be the steps to identify the problem? Using Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit.
