• Is there a SortedList<T> class in .net ? (not SortedList<Key,Value> which is actually a kind of Sort

  I need to sort some objects according to their contents (in fact according to one of their properties, which is NOT the key and may be duplicated between different objects) .net provides two classes (SortedDictionnary and SortedList), and both are some kind of Dictionaries. The only difference (AFAIK) is that SortedDictionnary uses a binary tree to maintain its state whereas SortedList does not and is accessible via an index. I could achieve what I want using a List, and then using its Sort() method with a custom implementation of IComparer, but it wouldn't be time-efficient as I would sort the whole List each time I insert a new object, whereas a good SortedList would just insert the item at the right position. What I need is a SortedList class with a RefreshPosition(int index) to move only the changed (or inserted) object rather than resorting the whole list each time an object inside changes. Am I missing something obvious ?

• Getting jQuery datepicker to attach to a TextBox within a ListView

  I am using the jQuery Datepicker without any problem for TextBox controls that are non-templated. However, I am unable to get the datepicker to work with a TextBox that is in an EditItemTemplate of a ListView control.   Our organisation uses inline sql. We have been tasked with providing a suitable data access layer and are weighing up the pro's and cons of which way to go... • vb.net - how do I parse a percentage value from a grid cell?

  I'm trying to parse a formatted percentage value back from a datagridviewcell that has been set with the "P" formatter: double percent = 0.96 cell.value = percent.tostring("p") gives me a displayed value of 96 % which is what I want. Now what I'm looking for is something like what is provided for the other formatting strings - NumberStyles.HexNumber, Currency etc so that I can do this double percent= double.parse( cell.value, NumberStyles.Percent ) which would give me a percent value of .96 I have scoured the .net documentation but can't find any sort of AllowPercent style like the others - is there one? • Selectively disabling WebControl elements

  I have an ASP.Net MasterPage with a PlaceHolder element. The contents of the PlaceHolder can be viewed in two modes: read-write, and read-only. To implement read only, I wanted to disable all inputs inside the PlaceHolder. I decided to do this by recursively looping through the controls collection of the PlaceHolder, finding all the ones which inherit from WebControl, and setting control.Enabled = false;. Here's what I originally wrote: private void DisableControls(Control c) { if (c.GetType().IsSubclassOf(typeof(WebControl))) { WebControl wc = c as WebControl; wc.Enabled = false; } //Also disable all child controls. foreach (Control child in c.Controls) { DisableControls(child); } } This worked fine, and all controls are disabled... But then the requirement changed ;) NOW, we want to disable all controls except ones which have a certain CssClass. So, my first attempt at the new version: private void DisableControls(Control c) { if (c.GetType().IsSubclassOf(typeof(WebControl))) { WebControl wc = c as WebControl; if (!wc.CssClass.ToLower().Contains("someclass")) wc.Enabled = false; } //Also disable all child controls. foreach (Control child in c.Controls) { DisableControls(child); } } Now I've hit a problem. If I have (for example) an <ASP:Panel> which contains an <ASP:DropDownList>, and I want to keep the DropDownList enabled, then this isn't working. I call DisableControls on the Panel, and it gets disabled. It then loops through the children, and calls DisableControls on the DropDownList, and leaves it enabled (as intended). However, because the Panel is disabled, when the page renders, everything inside the <div> tag is disabled! Can you think of a way round this? I've thought about changing c.GetType().IsSubclassOf(typeof(WebControl)) to c.GetType().IsSubclassOf(typeof(SomeParentClassThatAllInputElementsInheritFrom)), but I can't find anything appropriate!

  Last week I interviewed for a position at a TripleA MMORPG game company here in NE. I didn't get the job but one of the areas that came up during the interview was the about the scalability of the code that you write and how it should be considered early on in the design of your architecture and classes. Sadly to say I've never thought very much about the scalability of the .NET code that I've written (I work with single user desktop and mobile applications and our major concerns are usually with device memory and rates of data transmission). I'm interested in learning more about writing code that scales up well so it can handle a wide range of remote users in a client server environment, specifically MMORPGs. Are there any books, web sites, best practices, etc. that could get me started researching this topic?

  I have table with pageId, parentPageId, title columns. Is there a way to return unordered nested list using asp.net, cte, stored procedure, UDF... anything? Table looks like this: PageID ParentId Title 1 null Home 2 null Products 3 null Services 4 2 Category 1 5 2 Category 2 6 5 Subcategory 1 7 5 SubCategory 2 8 6 Third Level Category 1 ... Result should look like this: Home Products Category 1 SubCategory 1 Third Level Category 1 SubCategory 2 Category 2 Services Ideally, list should contain <a> tags as well, but I hope I can add it myself if I find a way to create <ul> list. EDIT 1: I thought that already there is a solution for this, but it seems that there isn't. I wanted to keep it simple as possible and to escape using ASP.NET menu at any cost, because it uses tables by default. Then I have to use CSS Adapters etc. Even if I decide to go down the "ASP.NET menu" route I was able to find only this approach: http://aspalliance.com/822 which uses DataAdapter and DataSet :( Any more modern or efficient way?

  I have google as much as I possible, checked stackoverflow several times, and yet I can not find a good html to pdf converter that can handle css. Is there a free and open source solution (even for commercial usage)? There are many solutions, with huge variety of price ranges, but I was looking for something open source and free. I have tried PISA for Python and it works fairly well, but is not free for commercial usage. Is there anything for .Net? I have not had success with iTextSharp.

• Clean install of IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003 ignoring 'web.config'?

  Hi, Any help with this would be really appreciated! As the title suggests, I'm running a brand new install of Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6 and I'm basically attempting to mirror a live web server onto a new internal development server, which runs the same setup. It's an ASP.NET site that relies heavily on URL rewriting (using Intelligencia). ASP.NET is set to run on v2.0.50727 on both servers. I've tried intentionally introduce syntax errors into the web.config and it just appears to be ignoring them completely, so given IIS 6 doesn't read the web.config, the rest of the site doesn't work at all (I get a 404 error, as a 'Default.aspx' doesn't exist since the web.config handles the default page rewriting). Having looked at the Application Mapping, '.config' files are set to use the default 'c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll' which exists. Is there anything else I may be missing? Thanks in advance.

  What is the algorithm used by the memberwise equality test in .NET structs? I would like to know this so that I can use it as the basis for my own algorithm. I am trying to write a recursive memberwise equality test for arbitrary objects (in C#) for testing the logical equality of DTOs. This is considerably easier if the DTOs are structs (since ValueType.Equals does mostly the right thing) but that is not always appropriate. I would also like to override comparison of any IEnumerable objects (but not strings!) so that their contents are compared rather than their properties. This has proven to be harder than I would expect. Any hints will be greatly appreciated. I'll accept the answer that proves most useful or supplies a link to the most useful information. Thanks.

• How to update control state in asp.net/ajax?

  I'm trying to update certain controls according to a selection in a dropdown list. For example, in the "selectedIndexChanged" event of a dropDownList, if a user selects the value "sport-car" the text box "payload" is disabled and the textbox "max speed" is enabled. private sub dropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged(byval sender as object, byval e as eventargs) handles dropDownList1.SelectedIndexChanged If dropDownList1.selectedValue = "sport-car" then textBox_payLoad.enabled = false textBox_maxSpeed.enabled = true end if end sub When I'm doing something like this, the controls aren't enabled/disabled, even the event (wich I've added a breakpoint) seems not to be raised (sometimes several time after it is raised). Also, when the instructions in the condition is executed, nothing changes. What am I doing wrong? Maybe this is a very easy issue, but I'm a begginer in MS Visual Web Developer.

  Hi I have an example project with works when called from compiled VB6 but not from the IDE or from Excel's VBE. There are 3 DLLs QA.DLL, QB.DLL, QAW.DLL. QA is written in C#.NET, QB and QAW are written in VB6. QAW is a COM wrapper of QA. In the calling code I create an Activation Context and load a manifest file. All works fine from the exe created with VB6, but not in debug mode in VB6 or in Excel's VBA. I have the full example in zip.   I have a big problem. I have some applications made on an unix based system, and I use PHP with cURL to post an XML question to an IIS server with asp.net. Every time I ask the server something I get error: HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error Date: Tue, 04 May 2010 07:36:08 GMT Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET X-AspNet-Version: 2.0.50727 Cache-Control: private Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Content-Length: 3032 But if I ask same question on another server, almost identically to this one (BOTH configured by me) I get results like it should and the headers: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Tue, 04 May 2010 07:39:37 GMT Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET X-AspNet-Version: 2.0.50727 Cache-Control: private Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Content-Length: 9169 I tried everything, searched hundreds of forums, but i don't find anything. • Issues rendering image in flash via Context.Response.Write C# asp.

  I am having an issue rendering images in flash via a character array. I am sending it from a webhandler via Context.Response.Write as a Base64CharacterArray. It functions 100% properly in a windows environment, however when using a Mac the image data is not retrieved correctly causing the image to appear incorrectly. It does not affect the data,however as it is rendered properly in a player which accesses the data via a webservice. I am at the end of my rope on this one. Anything will help.   I am pretty much interested into using the newly enhanced Parallelism features in .NET 4.0. I have also seen some possibilities of using it in F#, as much as in C#. Despite, I can only see what PLINQ has to offer with, for example, the following: var query = from c in Customers.AsParallel() where (c.Name.Contains("customerNameLike") select c; There must for sure be some other use of this parallelism thing. • Are there .NET Framework methods to parse an email (MIME)?

  Is there a class or set of functions built into the .NET Framework (3.5+) to parse raw emails (MIME documents)? I am not looking for anything fancy or a separate library, it needs to be built-in. I'm going to be using this in some unit tests and need only grab the main headers of interest (To, From, Subject) along with the body (which in this case will always be text and therefore no MIME trees or boundaries). I've written several MIME parsers in the past and if there isn't anything readily available, I'll just put together something from regular expressions. It would be great to be able to do something like: MailMessage msg = MailMessage.Parse(text); Thoughts?

• Querying a 3rd party website's database from my website

  The Goal: To retrieve information from a 3rd party database based off of a user's query on my ASP.NET website The Details: I need to be able to search 3rd-party websites for information relating to pharmaceutical drugs. Basically, here's what I've been tasked with: a user starts entering the name of a drug they're using in their experiments, and while they're typing a 3rd party website (e.g., here or here) is queried and suggestions are made based based off of what they've typed. Once they've made a selection, certain properties (molecular weight, chemical structure, etc) are retrieved from the 3rd party database and stored in our database. PharmaGKB.org's search bar is pretty much what I need to implement, but I need to access a 3rd party db. The site that I'm working on is ASP.NET/C#. The Problem: I don't really know where to start with this. There's a downloadable Perl example at the bottom of the page here, but it didn't really help me all that much. I'm at a loss as to how to implement this, or even find information about how to do it. The AJAX toolkit was suggested, but I'm not sure if that will solve the issue. JavaScript is also being considered, but again, I'm not sure if that will be sufficient, either. Perl Example Connection As a mentioned, here is a snippet from the Perl example given on the Pharmgkb.org site: my $call = SOAP::Lite -> readable (1) -> uri('SearchService') -> proxy('http://www.pharmgkb.org/services/SearchService') -> search ($ARGV[0]); However, I'm not sure how to implement this is C#/ASP.NET/JavaScript. There's a question on Stack Overflow about embedding Perl in C#, but it require a C wrapper as well, and I don't think that three languages is necessary or wise to solve this issue.

If an entry for that YearMonth is not present, then leave the Health status blank. but as stated earlier.. if you have an entry say for 2009-03 for CompID 2 and an entry for 2009-04 for CompID 2.. Doesn't matter what month you select it will list that company 2-3 times.
