• asmx web service returning xml instead of json in .net 4.0

  i have just upgraded a test copy of my site to asp.net 4.0 and have noticed a strange issue that only arises when i upload the site to my server. the site has an asmx web service that returns json, yet when i run the site on my server it returns xml. it as been working fine in asp.net 3.5 for over a year. the webMethod is decorated with the correct attributes... [WebMethod][ScriptMethod(ResponseFormat = ResponseFormat.Json)] public List<LocationRecentChange> RecentChanges() and on my local machine it returns json. yet on the server (Windows 2008 64bit) it returns xml. you can inspect the response on the test site here... my test site using firebug console you will see a 200 OK response and a bunch of XML, and on my local machine the data returned is the JSON i expect. • Rails load path questions

  Say I have some custom classes that don't belong in models, controllers etc, I should put this in /lib correct? In rails < 3 I would add this directory to my loadpath and in rails 3+ I would add this to my autoload_path. Is this correct? Now say I have some classes that extends already defined classes. Where should I put this so its run on startup. Forexample say I want to add the method 'foo' on String. class String def foo 'foo; end end Where should I put this class so it's defined on startup? Another weird bug I have is when I try to namespace classes in lib. module MyProject class Foo end end Now in a console: ruby-1.9.2-p136 :004 Bags::Foo LoadError: Expected /Users/me/workspace/my_project/lib/foo.rb to define Foo from /Users/rob/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p136/gems/activesupport-3.0.3/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:492:in `load_missing_constant' from /Users/rob/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p136/gems/activesupport-3.0.3/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:183:in `block in const_missing' I keep getting this error. • Analyzing an IronPython Scope

  I'm trying to write C# code with an embedded IronPython script. Then want to analyze the contents of the script, i.e. list all variables, functions, class and their members/methods. There's an easy way to start, assuming I've got a scope defined and code executed in it already: dynamic variables=pyScope.GetVariables(); foreach (string v in variables) { dynamic dynamicV=pyScope.GetVariable(); /*seems to return everything. variables, functions, classes, instances of classes*/ } But how do I figure out what the type of a variable is? For the following python 'objects', dynamicV.GetType() will return different values: x=5 --system.Int32 y="asdf" --system.String def func():... --IronPython.Runtime.PythonFunction z=class() -- IronPython.Runtime.Types.OldInstance, how can I identify what the actual python class is? class NewClass -- throws an error, GetType() is unavailable. This is almost what I'm looking for. I could capture the exception thrown when unavailable and assume it's a class declaration, but that seems unclean. Is there a better approach? To discover the members/methods of a class it looks like I can use: ObjectOperations op = pyEngine.Operations; object instance = op.Call("className"); foreach (string j in op.GetMemberNames("className")) { object member=op.GetMember(instance, j); Console.WriteLine(member.GetType()); /*once again, GetType() provides some info about the type of the member, but returns null sometimes*/ } Also, how do I get the parameters to a method? • HREF link that targets nothing, does not want to use hash or void(0)

  I have a link that I want to be able to click to trigger a piece of jQuery code. Currently I have <a href="#" id="foo">Link</a> and $('#foo').click(function(){ // Do stuff }); which works well. But, I have always hated using hash in this way. The page flickers and the hash is added to the page url. One alternative is to use <a href="javascript:void(0);" id="foo">Link</a> but I also dislike seeing that piece of code in the browser status bar. It looks tacky. What I'd rather have is an explanatory javascript placeholder that does nothing, like <a href="javascript:zoom();" id="foo">Link</a> which actually works, but throws an ReferenceError in the javascript console since there are no such function. What's the minimum definition of a function that does nothing? Are there any other alternatives? Should I just skip the link and use something like <span id="foo" style="cursor:pointer;cursor:hand;">Link</span> instead?

• UIAlertView Will not show

  I have a program that is requesting a JSON string. I have created a class that contains the connect method below. When the root view is coming up, it does a request to this class and method to load up some data for the root view. When I test the error code (by changing the URL host to 127.0.0.1), I expect the Alert to show. Behavior is that the root view just goes black, and the app aborts with no alert. No errors in debug mode on the console, either. Any thoughts as to this behavior? I've been looking around for hints to this for hours to no avail. Thanks in advance for your help. • Weird code appearing when I loop over model instances in Rails

  In my Rails app I'm trying to loop over the Submission instances inside my Folder instances with Rails templating code. It works. However, it's also returning each instance in code which doesn't seem to be JSON. It's what's returned when you look up an instance in the Rails console. Here's an example: #<Submission id: 112, title: nil, content: nil, created_at: "2013-10-10 23:29:39", updated_at: "2013-10-10 23:29:39", user_id: 1, folder_id: 1, parent_id: nil> Here's what the code looks like for the loop: <%= @folder.submissions.each do |x| %> <% if x.title != nil %> <div id="<%= x.id %>" class="submission-textual"> <h1><%= x.title %></h1> </div> <% else %> <% end %> <% end %> I checked my Folder and Submissions controllers but am not sure what this is. Why are these strings being rendered whenever I try and render an instance in my view? I'm still new to Ruby so that explains why I haven't seen this.

• svg mouseup event not fired in IE9, unless the debugger is open

  I am using d3 to build a simple chart that the user can edit interactively with the mouse. It works on in all modern common browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari), except for Internet Explorer 9 where I can start to drag an item but I never get the mouseup event. The strangest bit is that, if I open the debugger, the page works percetly on Internet Explorer 9 as well. • http post request with cross-origin in javascript

  i have a problem with a http post call in firefox. I know that when there are a cross origin, firefox first do a OPTIONS before the POST to know the access-control-allow headers. With this code i dont have any problem: Net.requestSpeech.prototype.post = function(url, data) { if(this.xhr != null) { this.xhr.open("POST", url); this.xhr.onreadystatechange = Net.requestSpeech.eventFunction; this.xhr.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "application/json; charset=utf-8"); this.xhr.send(data); } } I test this code with a simple html that invokes this function. Everything is ok and i have the response of the OPTIONS and POST, and i process the response. But, i'm trying to integrate this code with an existen application with uses jquery (i dont know if this is a problem), when the send(data) executes in this case, the browser (firefox) do the same, first do a OPTION request, but in this case dont receive the response of the server and puts this message in console: [18:48:13.529] OPTIONS http://localhost:8111/ [undefined 31ms] Undefined... the undefined is because dont receive the response, but the code is the same, i dont know why in this case the option dont receive the response, someone have an idea? i debug my server app and the OPTIONS arrive ok to the server, but it seems like the browser dont wait to the response. edit more later: ok i think that the problem is when i run with a simple html with a SCRIPT tag that invokes the method who do the request run ok, but in this app that dont receive the response, i have a form that do a onsubmit event, i think that the submit event returns very fast and the browser dont have time to get the OPTIONS request. edit more later later: WTF, i resolve the problem make the POST request to sync: this.xhr.open("POST", url, false); The submit reponse very quickly and can't wait to the OPTION response of the browser, any idea to this?

  I'm trying to use Entity Framework for the first time on one of my projects. I'm using the code first workflow to automatically create my database. Intitaly setting up the database worked fine. Now I'm trying to migrate changes in my classes into the database. The tutorial I'm reading says I need to run "Enable-Migrations" in the package manager console. • Storing values in the DataValueField and DataTextField of a dropdownlist using a linq query

  I have a website for dance academy where Users can register and add/drop dance classes. In the web page to drop a particular dance, for a particular user, the dropdown displays her registered dances. Now I want to delete one of the dances from the list. So I'll remove the row from the table and also from the dropdownlist. The problem is that everytime the item with the lowest ID (index) is getting deleted, no matter which one the user selects. I think I am storing the DataTextField and DataValueField for the dropdown incorrectly. • AJAX filter MySQL results using checkboxes

  I'm attempting to get to grips with displaying filterable MySQL data within a PHP page based on user checkbox selections. I have a database of domain names and the dates on which these will require renewal as per Nominet DAC information and I can get unfiltered data to display, but filtering results by domain extensions is proving tricky for me to accomplish. I should point out at this stage that I am a serious newcomer to many of the ideas I am trying to learn to work with here, so please be gentle. I have tried following some other articles on here also, but no dice. • How to prevent multiple definitions in C?

  I'm a C newbie and I was just trying to write a console application with Code::Blocks. Here's the (simplified) code: main.c: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include "test.c" // include not necessary for error in Code::Blocks int main() { //t = test(); // calling of method also not necessary return 0; } test.c: void test() {} When I try to build this program, it gives the following errors: *path*\test.c|1|multiple definition of `_ test'| obj\Debug\main.o:*path*\test.c|1|first defined here| There is no way that I'm multiply defining test (although I don't know where the underscore is coming from) and it seems highly unlikely that the definition is somehow included twice. This is all the code there is. I've ruled out that this error is due to some naming conflict with other functions or files being called test or test.c. Note that the multiple and the first definition are on the same line in the same file. Does anyone know what is causing this and what I can do about it? Thanks!

• Storing records in a dropdownlist from DB without using LINQ Data source

  I have a website for dance academy where Users can register and add/drop dance classes. In the web page to drop a particular dance, for a particular user, the dropdown displays her registered dances. Now I want to delete one of the dances from the list. So i'll remove the row from the table and also from the dropdownlist. The problem is that everytime the item with the lowest ID (index) is getting deleted, no matter which one the user selects. I think I am storing the DataTextField and DataValueField for the dropdown incorrectly. Can someone please help me out? • jquery mobile mPDF not rendering on form submission

  Im trying to have the user submit form data to a mPDF page the will render a pdf with the data included. The problem Im having is that jquery mobile initializes the mPDF page not allowing the mPDF to render properly. Im trying to figure out how to stop jquery mobile from initializing the mPDF page. Just a note, when I remove query mobile the functionality works. • Ftp throws WebException only in .NET 4.0

  I have following c# code. It runs just fine when compiled against .NET framework 3.5 or 2.0 (I did not test it against 3.0, but it will most likely work too). The problem is, that it fails when built against .NET framework 4.0. • Cant fetch production db results using Google app engine remote_api

  Hey, im trying to work out with /remote_api with a django-patch app engine app i got running. i want to select a few rows from my online production app locally. i cant seem to manage todo so, everything authenticates fine, it doesnt breaks on imports, but when i try to fetch something it just doesnt print anything. • Reading XML or objects from a Web service

  This is my first time working with webservices and I am a bit lost. I successfully called the functions, but I only can get one value from the service. I read that the easiest way is to read xml or create objects and then call their values. Currently I use functions that return the desired value but I need to call them 3 times to get all the data witch is a waste of time and resources. I tried to call the service with the URL and use it as a website or getting the service to work the same way without importing into the program. The thing is that i cant find a way to pass the values into the url, because of that i get only blank pages. What is the fastest way to get my data from the services? I need city name, temperature and a flag if the city is valid. I need to pass the zip code to the service. Thank you. • SQL developer here -- Nesting with select * finicky in Oracle 10g?

  I am writing a simple diagnostic query I will execute in my Oracle 10g scratchpad. I am trying to do this as part of a step to build the query. In the SQL Scratchpad for Oracle 10g Enterprise Manager Console, this statement runs fine. SELECT * FROM v$session sess, v$sql sql WHERE sql.sql_id(+) = sess.sql_id and sql.sql_text <> ' ' If I try to wrap that up in Select * from () tb2 I get an error, "ORA-00918: Column Ambiguously Defined". I didn't think that could ever happen with this kind of statement so I am a bit confused. select * from (SELECT * FROM v$session sess, v$sql sql WHERE sql.sql_id(+) = sess.sql_id and sql.sql_text <> ' ') tb2 You should always be able to select * from the result set of another select * statement using this structure as far as I'm aware... right? Is Oracle/10g/the scratchpad trying to force me to accept a certain syntactic structure to prevent excessive nesting? Is this a bug in scratchpad or something about how oracle works?
