• Wildcard SSL Certificates with Exchange 2010?

  Is anyone using a Wildcard Cert with Exchange 2010 please? We currently have a bunch of individual whatever.domain.com SSL certificates and as several are expiring soon it would be an ideal opportunity to move to a wildcard certificate. At some point though we will be moving from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, and I've read conflicting reports over whether wildcard certs work with Exchange 2010 as many guides seem to recommend a UCC/SAN certificate. Our internal DNS domain name is the same as our external domain name. Godaddy look like good VFM given they allow use on unlimited physical servers. Thanks in advance.

  I am attempting to limit the number of results that are displayed as a result of dynamic result clustering on the Google Search Appliance. • Puppet - Possible to use software design patterns in modules?

  As I work with puppet, I find myself wanting to automate more complex setups, for example vhosts for X number of websites. As my puppet manifests get more complex I find it difficult to apply the DRY (don't repeat yourself) principle. Below is a simplified snippet of what I am after, but doesn't work because puppet throws various errors depending up whether I use classes or defines.   I am trying to map subdomain to amazon ec2 with elastic IP. I already mapped the www.xxxexample.com to my shared hosting by giving the dns server name (ns1.justhost.com). And I created a many subdomains using the cpanel of shared hosting. Shared hosting is working fine. Amazon route53 is a paid service. So I dont want to use that service. I want to map my subdomain points to amazon ec2 instance and main domain already primarily mapped to shared hosting.   Hi I hope someone can help me... I accidentally renamed my own user name on my mac running OS X 10.4.11 and tried renaming back to what it was but now I have two accounts (the one I want to use which has all my preferences, applications, mail boxes, etc etc) is it possible to copy my settings from my original into this new user name? When I open my computer it defaults to this new account but everything is setting up from new and I just need to get access to all my work documents, mail settings etc. If there is anyone who could help out, I would be very grateful. • Slow IE8 Start-up due to LDAP DNS queries

  Recently (in the last few days), my installation of IE8 has been taking 15 to 20 seconds to load my home page. Specifically, the sequence of events (as reported by WireShark) is:- Browser issues a DNS A query to resolve the home page server's IP address. Browser then spends the next 15-20 seconds broadcasting DNS SRV _LDAP._TCP queries, (roughly on a 2 second tick) to which it receives no answer (we have no LDAP servers). Browser re-issues the DNS A query and resolves the server's IP address again. Finally, the browser issues an HTTP GET for the home page. Does anyone know why this is happening? • How to debug why w3wp.exe crashes randomly?

  On the main production server, the IIS worker process crashes sometimes. From the event viewer I get the following information. Because when sth.bat is run, i see a cmd.exe and java.exe in process list. I have to use the process name with "pskill \computerA processName". But i have more than one applications named cmd.exe and java.exe. How can i solve this problem?

  There is a script which calls other scripts and they call others... I don't know exactly which scripts are called and how many of them.   I'm trying to test Tomcat virtual hosts on my dev machine (windows 7/Tomcat 6). I'd like to have requests for localhost, test1.localhost and test2.localhost all route through to the same tomcat instance. I've edited my hosts file to look as follows: 127.0.0.1 localhost ::1 localhost 127.0.0.1 test1.localhost 127.0.0.1 test2.localhost And added modified the Engine in server.xml as follows: <Engine defaultHost="localhost" name="Catalina"> <Realm className="org.apache.catalina.realm.UserDatabaseRealm" resourceName="UserDatabase" /> <Host appBase="webapps" autoDeploy="true" name="localhost" unpackWARs="true" xmlNamespaceAware="false" xmlValidation="false"> <Alias>test1.localhost</Alias> <Alias>test2.localhost</Alias> </Host> </Engine> However, I'm getting a 404 when hitting test1.localhost:8080/myWebApp, although localhost:8080/myWebApp works fine.   I pay monthly for a website hosting service that provides me with PHP and FTP support. I can upload my files and create directories and such. Now, I am wondering... If I upload a folder full of images.. or music.. basically personal stuff to my website and name it 'junk1234' can other people find it? Or even search engines? If so, How would I restrict any but those who know the folder name from seeing files in it? Possibly httaccess files? I also have cpanel installed.

  I am setting up a mail server: Dovecot and Postfix with MySQL support and Postfixadmin. Spend literally all day trying to figure it out, but I'm still unable to neither send nor receive any emails. To my knowledge, I have configured everything correctly, so either there is another problem, or my knowledge isn't good enough. • Make windows vista file explorer act normally

  Is there some file I can remove or something I can do to globally ensure that windows visa/xp/etc doesn't do annoying things? Annoying things: 1) Hide the file extension 2) All these "meta" columns I could care less about in "details" view (rating, album, date taken, Assistant's name, Artist, 35mm focal length, City, Other City, etc...). All I want are Name, size, date created, date modified, and file extension. MAYBE file chmod settings. 3) That garbage in the left pane known as "favorite links." (Documents, desktop, photos, music, etc...) 4) Switching between detail view, large icon view, thumbnail view, list view, and tiles when I goto differnt folders, all I want is detail view, with the same columns every time. That's it. I shouldn't have to get third party software to make my file system browseable, but if I need to so be it... Why are all these settings buried away? It feels like I have to apply them onto each folder every time.

• Command line safety tricks

  Command line and scripting is dangerous. Make a little typo with rm -rf and you are in a world of hurt. Confuse prod with stage in the name of the database while running an import script and you are boned (if they are on the same server, which is not good, but happens). Same for noticing too late that the server name where you sshed is not what you thought it was after funning some commands. You have to respect the Hole Hawg. I have a few little rituals before running risky commands - like doing a triple take check of the server I'm on. Here's an interesting article on rm safety. What little rituals, tools and tricks keeps you safe on the command line? And I mean objective things, like "first run ls foo*, look at the output of that and then substitute ls with rm -rf to avoid running rm -rf foo * or something like that", not "make sure you know what the command will do".

• Windows Server 2008 R2 time keeps changing unexpectedly

  There is a serious problem with one of my servers time. At some random hours (5:59 localtime in the following example) it goes 1 hour back and keeps doing this again and again next times it reaches 5:59. Like this: 5:59-4:59 … 5:59- 4:59 and so on. It stays in the loop until I manually update its time. • Email not working on testing site in Plesk before DNS switch

  I have to test my website before my DNS is swtiched to the new server. My New server is having Plesk. I changed my hosts file to point to the new server and I tested the site. My Site is working fine. However, When I try to register I have 2 emails sent one to the user and one to the admin. Admin email id is same as the server name for example my site name is test.com the admin email is [email protected]. So email is not sent to the admin. I know the email is not sent because the Plesk his searching its own dns instead of Global public DNS. Do any one know how to make my site see public DNS on sending email in Plesk. If I set Goole Public DNS 8.8.8.8 for MS record will it work.. Please guide me. Thanks in advance..

• Windows 2008 Incoming Connection: Where/How is Server IPv4 address defined

  We're evaluating a VM hosted externally which runs Windows Server 2008 R2 Web Server Edition and wish to access it via a VPN connection for maintenance and administration. RRAS isn't included in Web Server Edition, but it does have a form of VPN server called "Incoming Connections". This appears to work well and even supports multiple simultaneous connections. As we'll be using this VPN regularly we'd like to know if this is a viable solution or if we'd be better off upgrading to Standard Edition and full-fledged RRAS. In particular we're accessing the VM via the Private IP given by the Incoming Connection (currently 169.254.135.207) so we'd like know: if the server private IP might change every so often? if so is there any way to define it manually? or should we be using the server name rather than the private IP address? if so how can we be sure that it will resolve correctly? Name resolution over the "Incoming Connection" has worked on and off during our tests. Thanks for your help

• How to troubleshoot down terminal service/CITRIX sessions, when the process just won't terminate?

  Running a CITRIX presentation server farm, version 4.5.6 on Windows 2003 sp2. In the CITRIX Access Management Console, I sometimes get a session that shows it's in a down state - but has none of the normal info associated with it (user name, applications, client name, idle time, etc...). It does say which servers it's on, so I check out that server's terminal services manager. I can see the down session but cannot reset it. I get: (Error 7024 - the requested operation cannot be completed because the terminal connection is currently busy processing a connect, disconnect, reset, or delete operation.) So I go to the task manager and look up the processes running under that session id. I see it's one of my published apps, but when I try to end the process - it simply does nothing and the process remains. Any way to get rid of these sessions without a server reboot?

  I am trying to add a web folder via command line in windows. At first I though I should use the "net use" command, but when I tried I kept getting System error 67: C:net use * http://dev.subdomain.domain.tdl/dav/ the user name for 'dev.restech.niu.edu': correctusername the password for dev.restech.niu.edu: System error 67 has occurred. The network name cannot be found. The url I used works in a browser. It's an Apache dav on basic auth LDAP authentication method being used. Here's the thing... I CAN create a web folder when I use the "Add a network place" wizard. When I do net use, I don't see it listed in the prompt that follows. What utility do I need to use to mount a web folder in command line?

Both VMs run CentOS 6.2 with the exact same packages and configuration for every application running (minus networking which is different). SELinux is disabled on both. On machine A the application builds perfectly. On machine B when running some tests we get: ruby[2010] trap invalid opcode ip:7ff9d2944c30 sp:7fff9797e0f8 error:0 in ld-2.12.so[7ff9d2930000+20000] Digging a bit more to find out where the machines differ, machine A has: model name : Six-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 2423 HE and machine B: model name : AMD Opteron(TM) Processor 6272 I've tried booting machine B with cpuid_mask_cpu=fam_10_rev_c in grub but it did not help either. So any advice as to how to deal with this, or how to approach the hosting provider so as to run this VM on another physical machine will be greatly appreciated.

• Apache keeps resetting while testing on localhost...

  Hello everyone. I'm getting errors while testing web pages on localhost. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.
