  • What's your take on this Javascript thingy?

    - by Nischal
    We've been having a discussion at our workplace on this with some for and some against the behavior. Wanted to hear views from you guys : <html> <body> <div> Test! <script> document.body.removeChild(document.getElementsByTagName('div')[0]); </script> </div> </body> </html> Should the above script work and do what it's supposed to do? First, let's see what's happening here : I have a javascript that's inside the <div> element. This javascript will delete the child node within body which happens to hold the div inside which the script itself exists. Now, the above script works fine in Firefox, Opera and IE8. But IE6 and IE7 give an alert saying they cannot open the page. Let's not debate on how IE should have handled this (they've accepted it as a bug and hence fixed it in IE8). The point here is since the 'SCRIPT' tag itself is a part of DOM, should it be allowed to do something like this? Should it even exist after such an operation?

  • Disabling Text field with Javascript when value in drop down box is from mysql

    - by SteveJ313
    Hi I have a simple script in HTML, using a dropdown menu. When the value 1 is selected, the user can write in the text field, if value 2 is selected, it disables the text field. However, i changed the values of the dropdown menu, so that one value was from a mysql table(using PHP) and the other remained 'option value='1''. Yet now neither text field is disabled. Below is the code. `<script type="text/javascript"> function findselected() { if (document.form.selmenu.value == <?php echo $id; ?>) { document.form.txtField.disabled=true; // return false; // not sure this line is needed } else { document.form.txtField.disabled=false; // return false; // not sure this line is needed } } ` And the PHP section if(mysql_num_rows($SQL) == 1) { echo "<select name='selmenu' onChange='findselected()'>"; echo "<label>TCA_Subject</label>"; while ($row=mysql_fetch_array($SQL)) { echo "<option value='$id'>$thing</option>"; echo "<option value='2'>Choice 2</option>"; } } echo "<option value=$userid>'Choice 1'</option>"; ?> <option value='2'>Choice 2</option>"; </select> I have tried taking the second option value out of the loop, putting it into html, editing the variable in the javascript function. There is not a fault with the PHP as it is retrieving the right results and displaying it, yet the text field doesnt become disabled. Does anyone know of a possible solution? Thanks

  • javascript unable to locate a form using the ID tag

    - by ihake
    Here's my problem: I'm trying to set up a simple mobile contact form with a captcha built in. The page I'm working on can be found here: http://m.lancasterpainting.com/contact.php I'm using the following php contact form: http://www.html-form-guide.com/contact-form/php-email-contact-form.html I want to first say that I'm not the only one to run into this problem. After googling the issue, I've found multiple people struggling with this, but no-one seems to have an answer. Now for the problem... As you can see if you visit the page, each time the page is accessed, an error appears that says "Error: couldnot get Form object contact_form". I cannot--for the life of me--figure out why the javascript can't find the form I pass it. I call the function that generates this error at the top of the page: var frmvalidator = new Validator("contact_form"); The form I'm referencing is as follows in the HTML code: <div data-role="page" data-theme="e" id="contact_form" name="contact_form" data-position="inline"> ... And the function that is called that generates the error can be found in an external .js file here: http://m.lancasterpainting.com/scripts/gen_validatorv31.js Is there something that I am simply not seeing? Why can't the javascript locate the form? Thanks so much to anyone that helps with this.

  • Javascript Conflict on PHP page

    - by patrick
    I am having trouble running two javascript files on the same page. I used JQuery.noConflict() (http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.noConflict/) but no luck. <script src="http://www.google.com/jsapi"></script> <script> google.load("prototype", "1.6.0.3",{uncompressed:false}); google.load("scriptaculous", "1.8.1",{uncompressed:false}); </script> <script src="js/jquery.tools.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $jQuery.noConflict(); jQuery(document).ready(function($) { $("#download_now").tooltip({ effect: 'slide'}); }); function show_text() { new Ajax.Request('./new.php', { method: 'post', parameters: { userid: $('userid').value }, onSuccess: function(r) { $('update').update(r.responseText) } }); } document.observe("dom:loaded", function() { $('loading').hide(); Ajax.Responders.register({ onCreate: function() { new Effect.Opacity('loading',{ from: 1.0, to: 0.3, duration: 0.7 }); new Effect.toggle('loading', 'appear'); }, onComplete: function() { new Effect.Opacity('loading', { from: 0.3, to: 1, duration: 0.7 }); new Effect.toggle('loading', 'appear'); } }); }); </script>

    - by App_beginner
    Hi I am trying to create a javascript quiz, that gets the questions from a xml file. At the moment I am only starting out trying to parse my xml file without any success. Can anyone point me to what I am doing wrong? <html> <head> <title>Test</title> </head> <body> <div class="items"> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> var quizXML = '<quiz><Sporsmal tekst="bla bla bla"/><alternativer><tekst>bla</tekst><tekst>bli</tekst><tekst correct="yes">ble</tekst></alternativer><Sporsmal tekst="More blah"/><alternativer><tekst>bla bla</tekst><tekst correct="yes">bli bli</tekst><tekst>ble ble</tekst></alternativer></quiz>' var quizDOM = $.xmlDOM( quizXML ); quizDOM.find('quiz > Sporsmal').each(function() { var sporsmalTekst = $(this).attr('tekst'); var qDiv = $("<div />") .addClass("item") .addClass("sporsmal") .appendTo($(".spmArr")); var sTekst = $("<h2/>") .html(sporsmalTekst) .appendTo(qDiv); } </script> </body> </html> When I try this in my browser the classes and div are not being created. And the page is just blank. Am i doing something wrong when I intialize the xml?

  • How to preserve the state of JavaScript closure?

    - by Uccio
    I am working on a migration platform to migrate web applications from a device to another. I am extending it to add the support for preserving JavaScript state. My main task is to create a file representing the current state of the executing application, to transmit it to another device and to reload the state in the destination device. The basic solution I adopted is to navigate the window object and to save all its descendant properties using JSON as base format for exportation and extending it to implement some features: preserving object reference, even if cyclic (dojox.json.ref library) support for timers Date non-numericproperties of arrays reference to DOM elements The most important task I need to solve now is exportation of closures. At this moment I didn't know how to implement this feature. I read about the internal EcmaScript property [[scope]] containing the scope chain of a function, a list-like object composed by all the nested activation context of the function. Unfortunately it is not accessible by JavaScript. Anyone know if there is a way to directly access the [[scope]] property? Or another way to preserve the state of a closure?

  • Javascript autocomplete function href

    - by user896692
    I´ve the following javascript-function: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { var data = (<?php include("php/search_new.php"); ?>).Data.Recipes; var source = []; for (var i in data) { source.push({"href": "/php/get_recipe_byID.php?id=" + data[i].ID, "label": data[i].TITLE}); } $("#searchrecipes").autocomplete({ minLength: 3, source: source, select: function(event, ui) { window.location.href = ui.item.href; } }); }); </script> <input id="searchrecipes" type="text" name="searchrecipes" style="margin-left: 850px; margin-top: 0px; width:170px; background: #fff url(images/search_icon.png) no-repeat 100%;" onblur="this.style.background='#ffffff'; background: #fff url(images/search_icon.png) no-repeat 100%;" onfocus="this.style.background='#c40606'; background: url(images/search_icon.png) no-repeat 100%;" placeholder="Suchen..."></input> <input type="submit" name="buttonsenden" style="display:none;" value="" width: 5px></input> The function has already worked but suddenly it stopped working. The problem is, that the href on the dropdown-autocomplete isn´t clickable. var data = ({"Data":{"Recipes":{"Recipe_5":{"ID":"5","TITLE":"Spaghetti Bolognese"},"Recipe_7":{"ID":"7","TITLE":"Wurstel"},"Recipe_9":{"ID":"9","TITLE":"Schnitzel"},"Recipe_10":{"ID":"10","TITLE":null},"Recipe_19":{"ID":"19","TITLE":null},"Recipe_20":{"ID":"20","TITLE":"Hundefutter"},"Recipe_26":{"ID":"26","TITLE":"Apfelstrudel"},"Recipe_37":{"ID":"37","TITLE":null},"Recipe_38":{"ID":"38","TITLE":"AENDERUNG"},"Recipe_39":{"ID":"39","TITLE":null},"Recipe_40":{"ID":"40","TITLE":"Schnitzel"},"Recipe_42":{"ID":"42","TITLE":"Release-Test"},"Recipe_43":{"ID":"43","TITLE":"Wurstel2"}}},"Message":null,"Code":200}).Data.Recipes; All the necessary jquery scripts are available.   • Simply tag-based highlighting with Javascript

    - by nkd
    Hello, I got this code which works: <html> <head> <title>JS highlighting test</title> <script type="text/javascript"> function highlight() { var t = document.getElementById('highlight').innerHTML; t = t.replace(/(if|switch|for|while)\s*(\()/gi, "<b>$1</b>$2"); document.getElementById('highlight').innerHTML = t; } </script> </head> <body onload="javascript:highlight();"> <pre id="highlight"> 1 if(foo) { 2 bar(); 3 } 4 3 while(--baz) { 5 oof(); 6 } </pre> </body> </html> I would like to have it for all <pre> tags instead of just one with some specific and unique id as it works now. The best would be to have an combination of a specific tag with a specific id. Is it possible to extend the small JS function above to work this way (using some document.getElementsByTag(tag).getElementsById(id).innerHTML or something alike (I don't know what exactly suites the need) in a loop? I tried myself but with no real success. I need only as simple solution as possible, nothing really special. Thank you for your ideas. -- nkd

  • JavaScript: When does JavaScript evaluate a function, onload or when the function is called?

    - by Benj
    When does JavaScript evaluate a function? Is it on page load or when the function is called? The reason why I ask is because I have the following code: function scriptLoaded() { // one of our scripts finished loading, detect which scripts are available: var jQuery = window.jQuery; var maps = window.google && google.maps; if (maps && !requiresGmaps.called) { requiresGmaps.called = true; requiresGmaps(); } if (jQuery && !requiresJQuery.called) { requiresJQuery.called = true; requiresJQuery(); } if (maps && jQuery && !requiresBothJQueryGmaps.called) { requiresBothJQueryGmaps.called = true; requiresBothJQueryGmaps(); } } // asynch download of script function addScript(url) { var script = document.createElement('script'); script.src = url; // older IE... script.onreadystatechange=function () { if (this.readyState == 'complete') scriptLoaded.call(this); } script.onload=scriptLoaded; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(script); } addScript('http://google.com/gmaps.js'); addScript('http://jquery.com/jquery.js'); // define some function dependecies function requiresJQuery() { // create JQuery objects } function requiresGmaps() { // create Google Maps object, etc } function requiresBothJQueryGmaps() { ... } What I want to do is perform asynchronous download of my JavaScript and start at the earliest possible time to begin executing those scripts but my code has dependencies on when the scripted have been obviously downloaded and loaded. When I try the code above, it appears that my browser is still attempting to evaluate code within my require* functions even before those functions have been called. Is this correct? Or am I misunderstanding what's wrong with my code?

  • Django url rewrites and passing a parameter from Javascript

    - by William T Wild
    As a bit of a followup question to my previous , I need to pass a parameter to a view. This parameter is not known until the JS executes. In my URLConf: url(r'^person/device/program/oneday/(?P<meter_id>\d+)/(?P<day_of_the_week>\w+)/$', therm_control.Get_One_Day_Of_Current_Thermostat_Schedule.as_view(), name="one-day-url"), I can pass it this URL and it works great! ( thanks to you guys). http://127.0.0.1:8000/personview/person/device/program/oneday/149778/Monday/ In My template I have this: var one_day_url = "{% url personview:one-day-url meter_id=meter_id day_of_the_week='Monday' %}"; In my javascript: $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: one_day_url , dataType: "json", timeout: 30000, beforeSend: beforeSendCallback, success: successCallback, error: errorCallback, complete: completeCallback }); When this triggers it works fine except I dont necessarily want Monday all the time. If I change the javascript to this: var one_day_url = "{% url personview:one-day-url meter_id=meter_id %}"; and then $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: one_day_url + '/Monday/', dataType: "json", timeout: 30000, beforeSend: beforeSendCallback, success: successCallback, error: errorCallback, complete: completeCallback }); I get the Caught NoReverseMatch while rendering error. I assume because the URLconf still wants to rewrite to include the ?P\w+) . I seems like if I change the URL conf that breaks the abailty to find the view , and if I do what I do above it gives me the NoREverseMatch error. Any guidance would be appreciated.

  • Listing all objects that share a common variable in Javascript

    - by ntgCleaner
    I'm not exactly sure how to ask this because I am just learning OOP in Javascript, but here it goes: I am trying to be able to make a call (eventually be able to sort) for all objects with the same variable. Here's an example below: function animal(name, numLegs, option2, option3){ this.name = name; this.numLegs = numLegs; this.option2 = option2; this.option3 = option3; } var human = new animal(Human, 2, example1, example2); var horse = new animal(Horse, 4, example1, example2); var dog = new animal(Dog, 4, example1, example2); Using this example, I would like to be able to do a console.log() and show all animal NAMES that have 4 legs. (Should only show Horse and Dog, of course...) I eventually want to be able to make a drop-down list or a filtered search list with this information. I would do this with php and mySQL but I'm doing this for the sake of learning OOP in javascript. I only ask here because I don't exactly know what to ask. Thank you!

  • Need Help on JavaScript to Trim

    - by MacpaLtd
    I am facing some problems with my server space. The images are using all the space from the server, making it slow. As it is an eCommerce website, it cannot be slow or we lose customers. If I have the following: SKU's : ABC123-001 > catName > Phone ABC753-851 > catName > MAC AT1233-098 > catName > PC How can I use trim to make it the following: SKU's : 123 > catName > Phone 753 > catName > MAC 1233 > catName > PC Which I would use in the following script: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function(){ var sku = $("#ProductBreadcrumb ul li:last").text(); $(".ProductThumbImage img").attr('src','http://img.example.com/images/'+catName+'/'+sku+'.jpg'); }); </script> So, basically, the output for the picture link would be: http://img.example.com/images/phone/123.jpg http://img.example.com/images/mac/753.jpg http://img.example.com/images/pc/1233.jpg So yeah, first problem I have to face is.. How can I trim it? I am not familiar with JavaScript so any help would be really appreciated :D

  • Quickly generate junk data of certain size in Javascript

    - by user1357607
    I am writing an upload speed test in Javascript. I am using Jquery (and Ajax) to send chunks of data to a server in order to time how long it takes to get a response. This should, in theory give an estimation, of the upload speed. Of course to cater for different bandwidths of the user I sequentially upload larger and larger amounts of junk data until a threshold duration is reached. Currently I generate the junk data using the following function, however, it is very slow when generation megabytes of data. function generate_random_data(size){ var chars = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz"; var random_data = ""; for (var i = 0; i < size; i++){ var random_num = Math.floor(Math.random() * char.length); random_data = random_data + chars.substring(random_num,random_num+1); } return random_data; Really all I am doing is generating a chunk of bytes to send to the server, however, this is the only way I could find out how in Javascript. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Can anyone help with this (Javascript arrays)?

    - by Rich
    Hi I am new to Netui and Javascript so go easy on me please. I have a form that is populated with container.item data retuned from a database. I am adding a checkbox beside each repeater item returned and I want to add the container item data to an array when one of the checkboxes is checked for future processing. The old code used Anchor tag to capture the data but that does not work for me. <!--netui:parameter name="lineupNo" value="{container.item.lineupIdent.lineupNo}" /> here is my checkbox that is a repeater. <netui:checkBox dataSource="{pageFlow.checkIsSelected}" onClick="checkBoxClicked()" tagId="pceChecked"/> this is my Javascript function so far but I want to a way to store the container.item.lineupIdent.lineupNo in the array. function checkBoxClicked() { var checkedPce = []; var elem = document.getElementById("PceList").elements; for (var i = 0; i < elem.length; i ++) { if (elem[i].name == netui_names.pceChecked) { if (elem[i].checked == true) { //do some code. } } } } I hope this is enough info for someone to help me. I have searched the web but could not find any examples. Thanks.

  • JavaScript Key Codes

    - by Jonathan Wood
    I'm working with a JavaScript routine I didn't write. It is called from a text box's onkeydown attribute to prevent unwanted keystrokes. The first argument is apparently not used. The second argument is a list of characters that should be allowed. function RestrictChars(evt, chars) { var key; var keychar; if (window.event) key = window.event.keyCode; else if (e) key = e.which; else return true; keychar = String.fromCharCode(key); if ((key == null) || (key == 0) || (key == 8) || (key == 9) || (key == 13) || (key == 27)) // Control key return true; else if (((chars).indexOf(keychar) > -1)) return true; else return false; } This seems to work for alpha-numeric characters. However, characters such as . and / cause this function to return false, even when these characters are included in the chars parameter. For example, if the . key is pressed, key is set to 190, and keychar gets set to the "3/4" character. Can anyone see how this was meant to work and/or why it doesn't? I don't know enough about JavaScript to see what it's trying to do.

  • Layering Images & Click to Choose Using Javascript

    - by rneal
    So I'm making a gallery of fabrics and backgrounds for letters for a fraternity/sorority store in my college's town. If you don't know what I'm talking about, this is a fabric letter. You can see how it has a white outline (background) and a red inside (foreground). WELL, I want to make it so you can change both the foreground and background, simply by clicking it's similar image. This is what I have so far <script type="text/javascript">// <![CDATA[ function changeImage(filename) { document.mainimage.src = filename; }// ]]></script> with these for each fabrics: <a href="javascript:changeImage('/wp-content/themes/collegiateconnectionbg/images/fabrics/foregrounds/37.jpg')"> <img src="/wp-content/themes/collegiateconnectionbg/images/fabrics/foregrounds/37.jpg" alt="" width="100px" height="50px" /></a> I really like how this works, but it's only good for one layer. Is there anyway I can add a layer below it, but still make it show at the top of the page? I know I'll have to use photoshop and transparency for both options, thats no problem, but I wanted to make sure I can do this before I start creating 600+ images. I know I can play with z-index and css, but since I'm using wordpress the one example I read about here wasn't working or I didn't completely understand it, and messed up my entire page. Also here's my tester webpage to see the current code in work. (if you click the navy&white stars image, you can see a very rough makeshift "A") Thanks in advance!

  • javascript accordion - tracking time question

    - by JohnMerlino
    Hey all, I was reading up on this javascript tutorial: http://www.switchonthecode.com/tutor...ccordion-menus Basically, it shows you how to create an accordion using pure javascript, not jquery. All made sense to me until the actual part of tracking the animation. He says "Because of all that, the first thing we do in the animation function is figure out how much time has passed since the last animation iteration." And then uses this code: Code: var elapsedTicks = curTick - lastTick; lastTick is equal to the value of when the function was called (Date().getTime()) and curTick is equal to the value when the function was received. I don't understand why we are subtracting one from the other right here. I can't imagine that there's any noticeable time difference between these two values. Or maybe I'm missing something. Is that animate() function only called once every time a menu title is clicked or is it called several times to create the incremental animation effect? setTimeout("animate(" + new Date().getTime() + "," + TimeToSlide + ",'" + openAccordion + "','" + nID + "')", 33); Thanks for any response.

  • Building html structure in php or javascript?

    - by Adam
    I've been doing a lot of ajax calls and using the returned data to build html with javascript. However, I've noticed some people are returning the constructed html in the ajax calls since they're doing it all in php. What is the preferred method? I have a bunch of stuff already using javascript, so I guess I would prefer not changing everything to use just php. But, I'm assuming php would be more "secure."? The following is what I've been doing: $main_frag = $("<div class='order-container'/>"); $contact_frag = $("<div class='group'><div class='line-data'>Name: "+data.name+"</div><div class='line-data'>Email: "+data.email+"</div><div class='line-data'>Phone: "+data.phone+"</div></div>"); $address_frag = $("<div class='group'><div class='line-data'>Address 1: "+data.address_one+"</div><div class='line-data'>Address 2: "+address2+"</div><div class='line-data'>City: "+data.city+"</div><div class='line-data'>Province: "+data.province+"</div><div class='line-data'>Postal Code: "+data.postal+"</div></div>"); etc.. I just want to hear the opinions of the community.

  • JavaScript two-dimensional Array to PHP

    - by vi
    Hi I have to send a two-dimensional JavaScript Array to a PHP page. Indeed, I'm working on a form-builder, in which the user can add or remove fields. These fields are added (or removed) using JavaScript (jQuery). When the user is done and hit a 'publish' button, I have to get all the fields concerned and send them to a PHP page which would build a real form with it. I found a way to do it but I'm pretty sure it's not very clean : addedFields = new Array(); $("#add-info .field").each(function() { addedFields.push(new Array($(this).find('.name').val(), $(this).find('.type').val(), $(this).find('.size').val())); }); Basically, the ".field" class objects are <tr> and the ".name", ".type" and ".size" objects are inputs. So I get an array of [name, type, size], then I convert it into a string using addedFields = addedFields.join(";"); Finally, I go to the PHP form that way ; document.location.href = "create.php?addedfields=" + addedFields; Concerning the PHP code, I create a PHP array using the explode() function: $addedFields = explode(";", $_GET['addedfields']); and then I use it again for each element in the array: foreach ($addedFields as $field) { $field = explode(",", $field); echo "<li>Field with name : '$field[0]', of '$field[1]' type and with a size of $field[2]"; }

    I have this function: function parseScript(_source) { var source = _source; var scripts = new Array(); while(source.indexOf("<script") > -1 || source.indexOf("</script") > -1) { var s = source.indexOf("<script"); var s_e = source.indexOf(">", s); var e = source.indexOf("</script", s); var e_e = source.indexOf(">", e); scripts.push(source.substring(s_e+1, e)); source = source.substring(0, s) + source.substring(e_e+1); } for(var i=0; i<scripts.length; i++) { try { eval(scripts[i]); } catch(ex) { } } return source; } It parses and execute Javascript wonderfully except the when in <script type='text/javascript' src='scripts/gen_validatorv31.js'></script> the src file never gets executed.

  • Java to JavaScript (Encryptation related)

    - by balexandre
    Hi guys, I'm having dificulties to get the same string in Javascript and I'm thinking that I'm doing something wrong... Java code: import java.io.UnsupportedEncodingException; import java.security.MessageDigest; import java.security.NoSuchAlgorithmException; import java.util.Date; import java.util.GregorianCalendar; import sun.misc.BASE64Encoder; private static String getBase64Code(String input) throws UnsupportedEncodingException, NoSuchAlgorithmException { String base64 = ""; byte[] txt = input.getBytes("UTF8"); byte[] text = new byte[txt.length+3]; text[0] = (byte)239; text[1] = (byte)187; text[2] = (byte)191; for(int i=0; i<txt.length; i++) text[i+3] = txt[i]; MessageDigest md = MessageDigest.getInstance("MD5"); md.update(text); byte digest[] = md.digest(); BASE64Encoder encoder = new BASE64Encoder(); base64 = encoder.encode(digest); return base64; } I'm trying this using Paj's MD5 script as well Farhadi Base 64 Encode script but my tests fail completly :( my code: function CalculateCredentialsSecret(type, user, pwd) { var days = days_between(new Date(), new Date(2000, 1, 1)); var str = type.toUpperCase() + user.toUpperCase() + pwd.toUpperCase() + days; var md5 = any_md5('', str); var b64 = base64Encode(md5); return encodeURIComponent(b64); } Does anyone know how can I convert this Java method into a Javascript one? Thank you
