• jQuery programming style?

  I was recently asked to fix something on a site which I haven't worked on before. I haven't really worked with jQuery that much, but I figured I'd take a look and see if I could fix it. I've managed to mostly clear up the problem, but I'm still horrified at the way they chose to build this site. On document load, they replace the click() method of every anchor tag and form element with the same massive function. When clicked, that function then checks if the tag has one of a few different attributes (non-standard attributes, even), and does a variety of different tasks depending on what attributes exist and what their values are. Some hyperlinks have an attribute on them called 'ajaxrel', which makes the click() function look for another (hidden) hyperlink with an ID specified by the ajaxrel attribute, and then calls the click() function for that other hyperlink (which was also modified by this same click() function). On the server side, all the php files are quite long and have absolutely no indentation. This whole site has been a nightmare to debug. Is this standard jQuery practice? This navigation scheme seems terrible. Does anyone else actually use jQuery this way? I'd like to start incorporating it into my projects, but looking at this site is giving me a serious headache. • Elapsed time of running a C program

  Hi, I would like to know what lines of C code to add to a program so that it tells me the total time that the program takes to run. I guess there should be counter initialization near the beginning of main and one after the main function ends. Is the right header clock.h? Thanks a lot... Update I have a Win Xp machine. Is it just adding clock() at the beginning and another clock() at the end of the program? Then I can estimate the time difference. Yes, you're right it's time.h. • Update table rows in a non-sequential way using the output of a php script

  Good evening everybody, this is my very first question and I hope I've done my search in stack's archive at best!!! I need to monitor several devices by querying theyr mysql database and gather some informations. Then these informations are presented to the operator in an html table. I have wrote a php script wich loads devices from a multidimensional array, loops through the array and gather data and create the table. It comes out that when devices are too much and internet connection is not that fast, the script times out, even if i dramatically increase the timeout period. So it is impossible even to load the page the first time... Therefore I would like to change my code so that I can handle each row as a single entity, with its own refresh period. So when the user first loads the page, he sees n rows (one per device) with the ajax loader image... then an update cycle should start independently for each row, so that the user sees data gathered from each database... then ajax loader when the script is trying to retrieve data, then the gathered data once it has been collected or an error message stating that it is not possible to gather data since hour xx:yy:zz. So rows updating should be somewhat independent from the others, like if each row updating was a single closed process. So that rows updating is not done sequentially from the first row to the last. I hope I've sufficiently detailed my problem. Currently I feel like I am at a dead-end. Could someone please show me somewhere to start from?

• weird space in IE - Any suggestions?

  The below table is the only element inside a body tag - This displays fine in Firefox 3 as i expect it to be but it does not look good in IE7. There is a weird space just between the nested table and the row above. • Passing GLatLng from array to Google

  Hello All, To preface this, I am a complete programming amateur so this may be quite easily solved. As is though, it is frustrating me to no end. Basically, I have a database of Venue Names with GLat and GLng (other stuff too) that I am pulling down to my website based on a geolocated search. The javascript that I have pulls in a formatted subset of the database, dumps the glat and glng into an array and is supposed to take those points and plot out several markers each with an info window containing the details behind each marker. For some reason, the marker geodata is not being populated and/or is not being passed. The array is declared using [] and will not work when normally declared using (). It only brings up a map with the first value in the array and goes blank if i try to manually input later entries. There is a large block of commented out code relating to directions generation. That code worked for some reason. If anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong in rewriting it to map the markers and not give directions, please tell me.   I posted a question previously that got off topic, I'm reposting with better code that I have VERIFIED is compatible with iPhone (it works with mine anyway!) I just want to apply background-position coordinates to the body element and call the script conditionally for iPhone, iPod, & iPad. HOWEVER, they are wrong because if you scroll to the bottom of the page and view this javascript demo on iPhone, you can scroll and the <div style="background-position: fixed; top: x (variable)"></div> div DOES stay centered on iPhone. I really hope this question helps alot of people, I thought it was impossible, but it's NOT... I just need help stitching it together! • Find the set of largest contiguous rectangles to cover multiple areas

  I'm working on a tool called Quickfort for the game Dwarf Fortress. Quickfort turns spreadsheets in csv/xls format into a series of commands for Dwarf Fortress to carry out in order to plot a "blueprint" within the game. I am currently trying to optimally solve an area-plotting problem for the 2.0 release of this tool. Consider the following "blueprint" which defines plotting commands for a 2-dimensional grid. Each cell in the grid should either be dug out ("d"), channeled ("c"), or left unplotted ("."). Any number of distinct plotting commands might be present in actual usage. . d . d c c d d d d c c . d d d . c d d d d d c . d . d d c To minimize the number of instructions that need to be sent to Dwarf Fortress, I would like to find the set of largest contiguous rectangles that can be formed to completely cover, or "plot", all of the plottable cells. To be valid, all of a given rectangle's cells must contain the same command. This is a faster approach than Quickfort 1.0 took: plotting every cell individually as a 1x1 rectangle. This video shows the performance difference between the two versions. For the above blueprint, the solution looks like this: . 9 . 0 3 2 8 1 1 1 3 2 . 1 1 1 . 2 7 1 1 1 4 2 . 6 . 5 4 2 Each same-numbered rectangle above denotes a contiguous rectangle. The largest rectangles take precedence over smaller rectangles that could also be formed in their areas. The order of the numbering/rectangles is unimportant. My current approach is iterative. In each iteration, I build a list of the largest rectangles that could be formed from each of the grid's plottable cells by extending in all 4 directions from the cell. After sorting the list largest first, I begin with the largest rectangle found, mark its underlying cells as "plotted", and record the rectangle in a list. Before plotting each rectangle, its underlying cells are checked to ensure they are not yet plotted (overlapping a previous plot). We then start again, finding the largest remaining rectangles that can be formed and plotting them until all cells have been plotted as part of some rectangle. I consider this approach slightly more optimized than a dumb brute-force search, but I am wasting a lot of cycles (re)calculating cells' largest rectangles and checking underlying cells' states. Currently, this rectangle-discovery routine takes the lion's share of the total runtime of the tool, especially for large blueprints. I have sacrificed some accuracy for the sake of speed by only considering rectangles from cells which appear to form a rectangle's corner (determined using some neighboring-cell heuristics which aren't always correct). As a result of this 'optimization', my current code doesn't actually generate the above solution correctly, but it's close enough. More broadly, I consider the goal of largest-rectangles-first to be a "good enough" approach for this application. However I observe that if the goal is instead to find the minimum set (fewest number) of rectangles to completely cover multiple areas, the solution would look like this instead: . 3 . 5 6 8 1 3 4 5 6 8 . 3 4 5 . 8 2 3 4 5 7 8 . 3 . 5 7 8 This second goal actually represents a more optimal solution to the problem, as fewer rectangles usually means fewer commands sent to Dwarf Fortress. However, this approach strikes me as closer to NP-Hard, based on my limited math knowledge. Watch the video if you'd like to better understand the overall strategy; I have not addressed other aspects of Quickfort's process, such as finding the shortest cursor-path that plots all rectangles. Possibly there is a solution to this problem that coherently combines these multiple strategies. Help of any form would be appreciated.

  I am using un-ordered lists that nests some divs to show the desired output on screen. I am using css to style them and they seem to look perfect on chrome and firefox. But in IE(8) it looks there is a problem which I was unable to locate. • Very different IO performance in C/C++

  Hi all, I'm a new user and my english is not so good so I hope to be clear. We're facing a performance problem using large files (1GB or more) expecially (as it seems) when you try to grow them in size. Anyway... to verify our sensations we tryed the following (on Win 7 64Bit, 4core, 8GB Ram, 32 bit code compiled with VC2008) a) Open an unexisting file. Write it from the beginning up to 1Gb in 1Mb slots. Now you have a 1Gb file. Now randomize 10000 positions within that file, seek to that position and write 50 bytes in each position, no matter what you write. Close the file and look at the results. Time to create the file is quite fast (about 0.3"), time to write 10000 times is fast all the same (about 0.03"). Very good, this is the beginnig. Now try something else... b) Open an unexisting file, seek to 1Gb-1byte and write just 1 byte. Now you have another 1Gb file. Follow the next steps exactly same way of case 'a', close the file and look at the results. Time to create the file is the faster you can imagine (about 0.00009") but write time is something you can't believe.... about 90"!!!!! b.1) Open an unexisting file, don't write any byte. Act as before, ramdomizing, seeking and writing, close the file and look at the result. Time to write is long all the same: about 90"!!!!! Ok... this is quite amazing. But there's more! c) Open again the file you crated in case 'a', don't truncate it... randomize again 10000 positions and act as before. You're fast as before, about 0,03" to write 10000 times. This sounds Ok... try another step. d) Now open the file you created in case 'b', don't truncate it... randomize again 10000 positions and act as before. You're slow again and again, but the time is reduced to... 45"!! Maybe, trying again, the time will reduce. I actually wonder why... Any Idea? The following is part of the code I used to test what I told in previuos cases (you'll have to change someting in order to have a clean compilation, I just cut & paste from some source code, sorry). The sample can read and write, in random, ordered or reverse ordered mode, but write only in random order is the clearest test. We tryed using std::fstream but also using directly CreateFile(), WriteFile() and so on the results are the same (even if std::fstream is actually a little slower).   Below is some code I am working on for a navigation menu, if you are on a certain page, it will add a "current" css class to the proper tab. I am curious if there is a better way to do this in PHP because it really seems like a lot of code to do such a simple task? • strange behavior while including a class in php

  I'm experiencing a strange behavior with PHP. Basically I want to require a class within a PHP script. I know it is straight forward and I did it before but when I do so, it change the behavior of my jquery (1.8.3) ajax response. I'm running a wamp setup and my PHP version is 5.4.6. • XSLT ... I can'f find a (working) find minimum value in XML and set variable

  I've search for hours and not found an example that allows for the very first position to be the lowest. I'm getting 'False' instead of the value returned .... EDIT: Oddly enough if I run a 2nd instance as MAX_Landed with ascending it returns a value just fine. If I switch the order in the XSLT the first instance will return 'False' and the 2nd will work. Even if a reader is unfamiliar with ZuckerReports or SugarCRM some general advice on Java may be of use to me. I have installed ZuckerReports v1.12 in SugarCRM 5.5.1. The installation in which the report runs correctly is of the same version, and has the same version of the ZuckerReports module. The report previously ran correctly on both installations. I think that the only changes that have been made on the installation in which the report now does not work since the report was last successfully run are the additions of a few custom fields in the Contacts module. These changes should have nothing to do with ZuckerReports. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ZuckerReports module, but the problem remains. A google search for the warnings given in the error message ie. * log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (net.sf.jasperreports.extensions.ExtensionsEnviron ment). * log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly. Returns a few links (not specific to ZuckerReports) with tips similar to the following: * log4j.properties or log4j.xml needs to be on the classpath where log4j can find it. I cannot find a file with either of those names anywhere on my server, and yet the report can be run successfully on one of my SugarCRM installations. So I figure log4j must be being configured another way. Can anyone suggest a way to solve this problem? Or explain how I might discover how log4j is configured in ZuckerReports? Or explain how I might compare the working with the non-working installation in order to help find a solution? (I have tried searching for files containing "log4j" in both installations and comparing but all I can find are .jar files (nothing I can read with a text editor), and the .jar files found in each installation appear to be the same.)

  I am attempting to migrate data from an Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) 2002 instance into a new Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server (MOSS) 2007 installation using the Manage Microsoft Content Management Server Migration Profiles tool in the Operations space of MOSS Central Administration. When analyzing the profile, I receive 4 warnings, all of which may be safely ignored, but when I actually execute the migration profile, I get the same warnings and an additional error with a description of: Line 6: Incorrect syntax near ';'. I have seen this error numerous times when mucking about in SQL Server and recognize it as a Transact SQL error message, but can't find the actual SQL statement that is being executed so that I may determine the source of the error. EDIT: After enabling verbose logging on the MCMS 2002 Migration category, and poring through the Unified Logging Service (ULS) logs, I received a more complete stack trace at the point of the error, and a couple more anomalies listed below.   This is not a dupe. Please read and understand the issue before marking this as a duplicate question that has been answered already. Several customers are reporting bounce messages like the one below. At first I thought their computers had a virus but then I received one that was server generated so the problem is with the server. I've inspected the logs and these email addresses do not appear in the logs. • Can ping IP address and nslookup hostname but cannot ping hostname
