• Combining a content management system with ASP.NET

  I am going to be creating a site that seems like it requires a blend of a content management system (CMS) and some custom web development (which is done in ASP.NET MVC). I have plenty of web development experience to understand the ASP.NET MVC side of the fence, but, I don't have a lot of CMS knowledge aside from getting one stood up. Right now my biggest question is around integrating security from ASP.NET with the CMS. I currently have an ASP.NET MVC site that handles the authentication for multiple production sites and creates an authentication cookie under our domain (*.example.com). The page acts like a single sign on page since the cookie is a wildcard and can be used in any other applications of the same domain. I'd really like to avoid having users put in their credentials twice. Is there a CMS that will play well with the ASP.NET Forms Authentication given how I have these existing applications structured? As an aside, right now I am leaning towards Drupal, but, that isn't finalized.

• Native mobile app development - how do I structure my user stories?

  I'm about to start on a project which will involve developing prototype native mobile apps (iOS and Android initially) as well as a web-based admin interface and an API for these apps to communicate with. We've got a list of stories already drafted up, however a lot of them are in the format: As a mobile user I want to be able to view a login screen so that I can sign into the app If this were targeted for a single platform, I wouldn't see a problem. However, since we're targeting multiple platforms, I'm not sure whether these should now be duplicated eg "As an Android user" or similar. This seems like duplication, but it's work that will need to be completed separately for each platform. This is the first mobile project we've gone native on - previously it was Phonegap and we lumped all stories in under "As a mobile user". Since essentially this was a web-based app wrapped in native code, this didn't present too much of an issue, but I'm conscious that wholly-native apps are a different ballgame!

  I am using a GTK theme which I love except that it doesn't have borders around the windows. If I am on a web page (for example) with a white background and my wallpaper is white I don't know where the web page starts. What is worse, sometimes that type of thing happens with other windows, where I can't tell where the one window start and the other ends. Is there a way to edit GTK themes? More specifically, is there a way to edit a theme so that it will display a border around windows?

  I can't get my apache configuration to open my index.html I edited my /etc/apache2/apache2.conf and added the following at the bottom. <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /media//DATA/directory/to/my/index-file/ ServerName host-test.com </VirtualHost> Then I restarted my entire pc, but when I open localhost I get the: It works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet. Page and not the code written in my index.html? How to get my localhost with a different directory to my index working in Ubuntu 12.10(amd64)?

  I have been messing around with web development and programming in general for a couple of years now, working in web development agencies and the like. I have now decided that I want to move to more general programming and do this permanently and as a career and have set myself a goal of 1 year to learn as much as I can before I go out and find a 'proper' job as a programmer. Do any programmers out there have any opinions on how this time should be split and what the most important things to focus on will be over the year. The languages I will be focusing my learning on are: c, php, python and go - all of which i have varying degrees of familiarity with. The ultimate goal here is to gain as good as foundation as possible and to be of a good enough level to interview successfully for a decent company.

I just want something with little to no configuration needed (i.e. I don't have my own proxy server).   My blog has been quiet for quite a while. My inspiration comes from crunching/exchanging information which I should do more often. Gartner analysis tells us that by 2013 mobile phones will overtake PC’s as the most common Web access device worldwide. A few years back I would have said non sense, but apparently most Web users are comfortable with less processing power. Just take a look at the increasing business in Netbooks. Wouldn’t it be great to have a mobile phone which can connect wirelessly to my home TV, monitor, car display, mouse, keyboard, etc? And to have the processing power of the current Netbook generation? Where can I buy it? Why are we making our PC devices (for instance the slate) smaller while we can make our mobile device’s functionality bigger? What about the single responsibility principle? Does it apply to physical devices as well as good object-oriented software?

  I got stocked passing parameter to one master page for some reasons, seems the page lifecycle and dynamic loading of the master pages has got some issues with defining public properties in the masterpage within my project. It did not set my values and as a result, properties became useless.
