  • Count bits used in int

    - by sigvardsen
    If you have the binary number 10110 how can I get it to return 5? e.g a number that tells how many bits are used? There are some likewise examples listed below: 101 should return 3 000000011 should return 2 11100 should return 5 101010101 should return 9 How can this be obtained the easiest way in Java? I have come up with the following method but can i be done faster: public static int getBitLength(int value) { int l = 1; if (value >> 16 > 0) { value = value >> 16; l += 16; } if (value >> 8 > 0) { value = value >> 8; l += 8; } if (value >> 4 > 0) { value = value >> 4; l += 4; } if (value >> 2 > 0) { value = value >> 2; l += 2; } if (value >> 1 > 0) { value = value >> 1; l += 1; } return l; }

  • How to automate a monitoring system for ETL runs

    - by Jeffrey McDaniel
    Upon completion of the Primavera ETL process there are a few ways to determine if the process finished successfully.  First, in the <installation directory>\log folder,  there is a staretlprocess.log and staretl.html files. These files will give the output results of the ETL run. The staretl.html file will give a detailed summary of each step of the process, its run time, and its status. The .log file, based on the logging level set in the Configuration tool, can give extensive information about the ETL process. The log file can be used as a validation for process completion.  To automate the monitoring of these log files, perform the following steps: 1. Write a custom application to parse through the log file and search for [ERROR] . In most cases,  a major [ERROR] could cause the ETL process to fail. Searching the log and finding this value is worthy of an alert. 2. Determine the total number of steps in the ETL process, and validate that the log file recorded and entry for the final step.  For example validate that your log file contains an entry for Step 39/39 (could be different based on the version you are running). If there is no Step 39/39, then either the process is taking longer than expected or it didn't make it to the end.  Either way this would be a good cause for an alert. 3. Check the last line in the log file. The last line of the log file should contain an indication that the ETL run completed successfully. For example, the last line of a log file will say (results could be different based on Reporting Database versions):   [INFO] (Message) Finished Writing Report 4. You could write an Ant script to execute the ETL process and have it set to - failonerror="true" - and from there send results to an external tool to monitor the jobs, send to email, or send to database. With each ETL run, the log file appends to the existing log file by default. Because of this behavior, I would recommend renaming the existing log files before running a new ETL process. By doing this,  only log entries for the currently running ETL process is recorded in the new log files. Based on these log entries, alerts can be setup to notify the administrator or DBA. Another way to determine if the ETL process has completed successfully is to monitor the etl_processmaster table.  Depending on the Reporting Database version this could be in the Stage or Star databases. As of Reporting Database 2.2 and higher this would be in the Star database.  The etl_processmaster table records entries for the ETL run along with a Start and Finish time.  If the ETl process has failed the Finish date should be null. This table can be queried at a time when ETL process is expected to be finished and if null send an alert.  These are just some options. There are additional ways this can be accomplished based around these two areas - log files or database. Here is an additional query to gather more information about your ETL run (connect as Staruser): SELECT SYSDATE,test_script,decode(loc, 0, PROCESSNAME, trim(SUBSTR(PROCESSNAME, loc+1))) PROCESSNAME ,duration duration from ( select (e.endtime - b.starttime) * 1440 duration, to_char(b.starttime, 'hh24:mi:ss') starttime, to_char(e.endtime, 'hh24:mi:ss') endtime,  b.PROCESSNAME, instr(b.PROCESSNAME, ']') loc, b.infotype test_script from ( select processid, infodate starttime, PROCESSNAME, INFOMSG, INFOTYPE from etl_processinfo  where processid = (select max(PROCESSID) from etl_processinfo) and infotype = 'BEGIN' ) b  inner Join ( select processid, infodate endtime, PROCESSNAME, INFOMSG, INFOTYPE from etl_processinfo  where processid = (select max(PROCESSID) from etl_processinfo) and infotype = 'END' ) e on b.processid = e.processid  and b.PROCESSNAME = e.PROCESSNAME order by b.starttime)

  • problem with binarysearch algorithm

    - by arash
    hi friends,the code below belongs to binary search algorithm,user enter numbers in textbox1 and enter the number that he want to fing with binarysearch in textbox2.i have a problem with it,that is when i enter for example 15,21 in textbox1 and enter 15 in textbox2 and put brakpoint on the line i commented below,and i understood that it doesnt put the number in textbox2 in searchnums(commented),for more explanation i comment in code.thanks in advance public void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { int searchnums = Convert.ToInt32(textBox2.Text);//the problem is here,the value in textbox2 doesnt exist in searchnums and it has value 0. int result = binarysearch(searchnums); MessageBox.Show(result.ToString()); } public int binarysearch(int searchnum) { string[] source = textBox1.Text.Split(','); int[] nums = new int[source.Length]; for (int i = 0; i < source.Length; i++) { nums[i] = Convert.ToInt32(source[i]); } int first =0; int last = nums.Length; int mid = (int)Math.Floor(nums.Length / 2.0); while (1<= nums.Length) { if (searchnum < nums[mid]) { last = mid - 1; } if (searchnum > nums[mid]) { first = mid + 1; } else { return nums[mid]; } } return -1; }

  • Detection of negative integers using bit operations

    - by Nawaz
    One approach to check if a given integer is negative or not, could be this: (using bit operations) int num_bits = sizeof(int) * 8; //assuming 8 bits per byte! int sign_bit = given_int & (1 << (num_bits-1)); //sign_bit is either 1 or 0 if ( sign_bit ) { cout << "given integer is negative"<<endl; } else { cout << "given integer is positive"<<endl; } The problem with this solution is that number of bits per byte couldn't be 8, it could be 9,10, 11 even 16 or 40 bits per byte. Byte doesn't necessarily mean 8 bits! Anyway, this problem can be easily fixed by writing, //CHAR_BIT is defined in limits.h int num_bits = sizeof(int) * CHAR_BIT; //no assumption. It seems fine now. But is it really? Is this Standard conformant? What if the negative integer is not represented as 2's complement? What if it's representation in a binary numeration system that doesn't necessitate only negative integers to have 1 in it's most significant bit? Can we write such code that will be both portable and standard conformant? Related topics: Size of Primitive data types Why is a boolean 1 byte and not 1 bit of size?

  • Extract history from Korn shell

    - by Luc
    I am not happy about the history file in binary format of the Korn shell. I like to "collect" some of my command lines, many of them actually, and for a long time. I'm talking about years. That doesn't seem easy in Korn because the history file is not plain text so I can't edit it, and a lot of junk is piling up in it. By "junk" I mean lines that I don'twant to keep, like 'cat' or 'man'. So I added these lines to my .profile: fc -ln 1 9999 ~/khistory.txt source ~/loghistory.sh ~/khistory.txt loghistory.sh contains a handful of sed and sort commands that gets rid of a lot of the junk. But apparently it is forbidden to run fc in the .profile file. I can't login whenever I do, the shell exits right away with signal 11. So I removed that 'fc -l' line from my .profile file and added it to the loghistory.sh script, but the shell still crashes. I also tried this line in my .profile: strings ~/.sh_history ~/khistory.txt source ~/loghistory.sh That doesn't crash, but the output is printed with an additional, random character in the beginning of many lines. I can run 'fc -l' on the command line, but that's no good. I need to automate that. But how? How can I extract my ksh history as plain text? TIA

  • Algorithm for assigning a unique series of bits for each user?

    - by Mark
    The problem seems simple at first: just assign an id and represent that in binary. The issue arises because the user is capable of changing as many 0 bits to a 1 bit. To clarify, the hash could go from 0011 to 0111 or 1111 but never 1010. Each bit has an equal chance of being changed and is independent of other changes. What would you have to store in order to go from hash - user assuming a low percentage of bit tampering by the user? I also assume failure in some cases so the correct solution should have an acceptable error rate. I would an estimate the maximum number of bits tampered with would be about 30% of the total set. I guess the acceptable error rate would depend on the number of hashes needed and the number of bits being set per hash. I'm worried with enough manipulation the id can not be reconstructed from the hash. The question I am asking I guess is what safe guards or unique positioning systems can I use to ensure this happens.

  • In-order tree traversal

    - by Chris S
    I have the following text from an academic course I took a while ago about in-order traversal (they also call it pancaking) of a binary tree (not BST): In-order tree traversal Draw a line around the outside of the tree. Start to the left of the root, and go around the outside of the tree, to end up to the right of the root. Stay as close to the tree as possible, but do not cross the tree. (Think of the tree — its branches and nodes — as a solid barrier.) The order of the nodes is the order in which this line passes underneath them. If you are unsure as to when you go “underneath” a node, remember that a node “to the left” always comes first. Here's the example used (slightly different tree from below) However when I do a search on google, I get a conflicting definition. For example the wikipedia example: Inorder traversal sequence: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I (leftchild,rootnode,right node) But according to (my understanding of) definition #1, this should be A, B, D, C, E, F, G, I, H Can anyone clarify which definition is correct? They might be both describing different traversal methods, but happen to be using the same name. I'm having trouble believing the peer-reviewed academic text is wrong, but can't be certain.

  • Tree iterator, can you optimize this any further?

    - by Ron
    As a follow up to my original question about a small piece of this code I decided to ask a follow up to see if you can do better then what we came up with so far. The code below iterates over a binary tree (left/right = child/next ). I do believe there is room for one less conditional in here (the down boolean). The fastest answer wins! The cnt statement can be multiple statements so lets make sure this appears only once The child() and next() member functions are about 30x as slow as the hasChild() and hasNext() operations. Keep it iterative <-- dropped this requirement as the recursive solution presented was faster. This is C++ code visit order of the nodes must stay as they are in the example below. ( hit parents first then the children then the 'next' nodes). BaseNodePtr is a boost::shared_ptr as thus assignments are slow, avoid any temporary BaseNodePtr variables. Currently this code takes 5897ms to visit 62200000 nodes in a test tree, calling this function 200,000 times. void processTree (BaseNodePtr current, unsigned int & cnt ) { bool down = true; while ( true ) { if ( down ) { while (true) { cnt++; // this can/will be multiple statesments if (!current->hasChild()) break; current = current->child(); } } if ( current->hasNext() ) { down = true; current = current->next(); } else { down = false; current = current->parent(); if (!current) return; // done. } } }

  • What is wrong with this code for reading binary files? [on hold]

    What is wrong with this code for reading binary files? It compiles OK, but will not print out the file as planned, in fact, it prints nothing at all. #include <iostream> #include <fstream> int main(int argc, const char *argv[]) { if (argc < 2) { ::std::cerr << "usage: " << argv[0] << " <filename>\n"; return 1; } ::std::basic_ifstream<unsigned char> in(argv[1], ::std::ios::binary); unsigned char uc; while (in.get(uc)) { printf("%02X ", uc); } // TODO: error handling, in case the file could not be opened or read return 0; }

  • How do I use MediaRecorder to record video without causing a segmentation fault?

  • Help make sense of a KillDisk error/log

  • transaction log shipping sql server 2005 to 2008

    - by Andrew Jahn
    I have a reporting setup with SSRS on our sql server 2005 database. Because sql server 2008 is not supported by the main program which populates our database we are stuck with 2005 on our prod database. Unfortunately when I run our weekly check reports the web interface constantly times out because the server cant do the conversion to PDF. I've read that sql server 2008's SSRS is ALOT better with memory management. I was wondering if I can do some kind transact log shipping subscription publication from 2005 to 2008? Am I chasing a dream here.

  • Php sessions secure log in

    - by Doodle
    My question is about creating a secure log in routine. After comparing the user name and password to the stored values I set a session variable called logged to true. Then as the user surfs around the web page I just check the logged variable for true or false to determine if the user should have access. This is my first time creating something like this. Is this secure? I feel like there is something else that I should be doing to make sure that users are valid.

  • Import xml to database with high end performance and Audit log- A best Practice

    - by karthik
    Hi, I have to import big xml files to Ms SQL 2005 Database by using C# with high end Performance. Even if any record fails in middle, i have to take next record for process and failed record need to log for audit. I don't want to put insert query with in for loop. Could you please suggest a best way to do this. If I can use bulkcopy methods or Data Adapter update methods- Its very nice, But if any record fails, execution of that statement breaks and rolled back totally, right? Any alternatives and Best practices with example please..? Is Multi-threading works for me to improve performance..? Give me example please. Thanks Karthikeyan

  • android call log like design

    - by Alxandr
    I'm trying to create a design for a list that looks like (and mostly behaves like) the call log, like shown here: I don't need all the design, but what I'm trying to achieve is the two-columned design with the splitter in-between, and the behavior that if I click on the main item (the left part) one thing happens (in this case, you open some details about the call), and if you press the outer right part something else happens (you call the contact). I'm pretty new to android, but I've managed to do most of the designs I wanted so far, so I don't need the entire layout for this one, only the part that does the splitting and the splitter. And if possible it would be nice to know how to map the clicks appropriately, though I think I might be able to find that out by my self.

  • CSRF error when trying to log onto Django admin page with w3m on Emacs23

    I normally use Firefox and have had no problems with the admin page on my Django website. But I use Emacs23 for writing my posts, and wanted to be able to use w3m in Emacs to copy the stuff across. When I try to log into my admin pages, it gives the CSRF error: CSRF verification failed. Request aborted. Help Reason given for failure: No CSRF or session cookie. ... Is there a way that I could get w3m to work with my admin page? I am not sure if the problem lies with the way the admin is set up on Django or with the Emacs or w3m settings.

  • WPF (irc) chat log control

    - by user408952
    I'm trying to learn WPF and was thinking about creating a simple IRC client. The most complicated part is to create the chat log. I want it to look more or less like the one in mIRC: or irssi: The important parts are that the text should be selectable, lines should wrap and it should be able to handle quite large logs. The alternatives that I can come up with are: StackPanel inside a ScrollViewer where each line is a row ListView, since that seems more suitable for dynamic content/data binding. Create an own control that does the rendering on its own. Is there any WPF guru out there that has some ideas on which direction to take and where to start?

  • Verify windows log-in via smart card

Both login options are available in my company clients but my application need to open only in the smart-card login. All the clients are windows 7 OS. I look at some sites: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff404285(v=ws.10).aspx http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/240655/Using-a-Smart-Card-Certificate-with-NET-Security-i and I'm thinking I need to get the enhanced key usage (EKU) attribute field. If the EKU is empty = then the user was loged via password and not via smartcard. I only need this simple check, I do not care for creating/validations on certificates atc.

  • C++ simple logging class with UTF-8 output [code example]

    - by Andrew
    Hello everyone, I was working on one of my academic projects and for the first time I needed pure C++ without GUI. After googling for a while, I did not find any simple and easy to use implementation for logging and created my own. This is a simple implementation with iostreams that logs messages to screen and to the file simultaneously. I was thinking of using templates but then I realized that I do not expect any changes and removed that. It is modified std::wostream with two added modifiers: 1. TimeStamp - prints time-stamp 2. LogMode(LogModes) - switches output: file only, screen only, file+screen. *Boost::utf8_codecvt_facet* is used for UTF-8 output. // ############################################################################ // # Name: MyLog.h # // # Purpose: Logging Class Header # // # Author: Andrew Drach # // # Modified by: <somebody> # // # Created: 03/21/10 # // # SVN-ID: $Id$ # // # Copyright: (c) 2010 Andrew Drach # // # Licence: <license> # // ############################################################################ #ifndef INCLUDED_MYLOG_H #define INCLUDED_MYLOG_H // headers -------------------------------------------------------------------- #include <string> #include <iostream> #include <fstream> #include <exception> #include <boost/program_options/detail/utf8_codecvt_facet.hpp> using namespace std; // definitions ---------------------------------------------------------------- // ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // DblBuf class // Splits up output stream into two // Inspired by http://wordaligned.org/articles/cpp-streambufs // ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- class DblBuf : public wstreambuf { private: // private member declarations DblBuf(); wstreambuf *bf1; wstreambuf *bf2; virtual int_type overflow(int_type ch) { int_type eof = traits_type::eof(); int_type not_eof = !eof; if ( traits_type::eq_int_type(ch,eof) ) return not_eof; else { char_type ch1 = traits_type::to_char_type(ch); int_type r1( bf1on ? bf1->sputc(ch1) : not_eof ); int_type r2( bf2on ? bf2->sputc(ch1) : not_eof ); return (traits_type::eq_int_type(r1,eof) || traits_type::eq_int_type(r2,eof) ) ? eof : ch; } } virtual int sync() { int r1( bf1on ? bf1->pubsync() : NULL ); int r2( bf2on ? bf2->pubsync() : NULL ); return (r1 == 0 && r2 == 0) ? 0 : -1; } public: // public member declarations explicit DblBuf(wstreambuf *bf1, wstreambuf *bf2) : bf1(bf1), bf2(bf2) { if (bf1) bf1on = true; else bf1on = false; if (bf2) bf2on = true; else bf2on = false; } bool bf1on; bool bf2on; }; // ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // logstream class // Wrapper for a standard wostream with access to modified buffer // ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- class logstream : public wostream { private: // private member declarations logstream(); public: // public member declarations DblBuf *buf; explicit logstream(wstreambuf *StrBuf, bool isStd = false) : wostream(StrBuf, isStd), buf((DblBuf*)StrBuf) {} }; // ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // Logging mode Class // ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- enum LogModes{LogToFile=1, LogToScreen, LogToBoth}; class LogMode { private: // private member declarations LogMode(); short mode; public: // public member declarations LogMode(short mode1) : mode(mode1) {} logstream& operator()(logstream &stream1) { switch(mode) { case LogToFile: stream1.buf->bf1on = true; stream1.buf->bf2on = false; break; case LogToScreen: stream1.buf->bf1on = false; stream1.buf->bf2on = true; break; case LogToBoth: stream1.buf->bf1on = true; stream1.buf->bf2on = true; } return stream1; } }; logstream& operator<<(logstream &out, LogMode mode) { return mode(out); } wostream& TimeStamp1(wostream &out1) { time_t time1; struct tm timeinfo; wchar_t timestr[512]; // Get current time and convert it to a string time(&time1); localtime_s (&timeinfo, &time1); wcsftime(timestr, 512,L"[%Y-%b-%d %H:%M:%S %p] ",&timeinfo); return out1 << timestr; } // ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // MyLog class // Logs events to both file and screen // ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- class MyLog { private: // private member declarations MyLog(); auto_ptr<DblBuf> buf; string mErrorMsg1; string mErrorMsg2; string mErrorMsg3; string mErrorMsg4; public: // public member declarations explicit MyLog(string FileName1, wostream *ScrLog1, locale utf8locale1); ~MyLog(); void NewEvent(wstring str1, bool TimeStamp = true); string FileName; wostream *ScrLog; wofstream File; auto_ptr<logstream> Log; locale utf8locale; }; // ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // MyLog constructor // ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MyLog::MyLog(string FileName1, wostream *ScrLog1, locale utf8locale1) : // ctors mErrorMsg1("Failed to open file for application logging!   • Printing to STDOUT and log file while removing ANSI color codes

    - by Arrieta
    I have the following functions for colorizing my screen messages: def error(string): return '\033[31;1m' + string + '\033[0m' def standout(string): return '\033[34;1m' + string + '\033[0m' I use them as follows: print error('There was a problem with the program') print "This is normal " + standout("and this stands out") I want to log the output to a file (in addition to STDOUT) WITHOUT the ANSI color codes, hopefully without having to add a second "logging" line to each print statement. The reason is that if you simply python program.py > out then the file out will have the ANSI color codes, which look terrible if you open in a plain text editor. Any advice?
