  I want to use a variable in a regex, like this: variables = ['variableA','variableB'] for i in range(len(variables)): regex = r"'('+variables[i]+')[:|=|\(](-?\d+(?:\.\d+)?)(?:\))?'" pattern_variable = re.compile(regex) match = re.search(pattern_variable, line) The problem is that python adds an extra backslash character for each backslash character in my regex string (ipython), and makes my regex invalid: In [76]: regex Out[76]: "'('+variables[i]+')[:|=|\\(](-?\\d+(?:\\.\\d+)?)(?:\\))?'" Any tips on how I can avoid this?

• Readline, the Input Record Separator and Ruby

  In Ruby I'm looking to read data until I reach a delimiter or end of file. I found this is possible by redefining $/ or the $INPUT_RECORD_SEPARATOR to my delimiter. However with all the "features" in the Ruby language it seems hokey to change the value of a global to do this. Also, readline used to consume the delimiter while not it is included in what is returned. Is there any other way to "read until" while consuming the delimiter that doesn't involve getting the values char by char in a loop?

  I'm creating a program that checks if a word or phrase is a palindrome. I have the actual "palindrome tester" figured out. What I'm stuck with is where and what to place in my code to have the console read out "Enter palindrome..." and then text. I've tried with IO but it doesnt work out right. Also, how do I create a loop to keep going? • Convert string to decimal retaining the exact input format

  Hi All, I'm sure this is a piece of cake but I'm really struggling with something that seems trivial. I need to check the inputted text of a textbox on the form submit and check to see if it's within a desired range (I've tried a Range Validator but it doesn't work for some reason so I'm trying to do this server-side). What I want to do is: Get the value inputted (eg. 0.02), replace the commas and periods, convert that to a decimal (or double or equivalent) and check to see if it's between 0.10 and 35000.00. Here's what I have so far: string s = txtTransactionValue.Text.Replace(",", string.Empty).Replace(".", string.Empty); decimal transactionValue = Decimal.Parse(s); if (transactionValue >= 0.10M && transactionValue <= 35000.00M) // do something If I pass 0.02 into the above, transactionValue is 2. • Raw XML Push from input stream captures only the first line of XML

  I'm trying to read XML that is being pushed to my java app. I originally had this in my glassfish server working.   Hi all, I'm currently trying to use the zlib to inflate a source of gzipped data. It seems that the inflate API in zlib cannot inflate a gzipped data ( The example http://www.zlib.net/zpipe.c fails to read a gzipped file: "zpipe: invalid or incomplete deflate data" ). I noticed that there is a gzopen function in this API, but , as far as I understand, it only works with a filename or a file descriptor. Can I use this API if my source of gzipped data is stored in memory, in a sql blob, etc... ? Many Thanks Pierre

• [Web] Eventlistener for form input on iphone?

  I'm playing around with jQTouch to create a web app on the iPhone. I'm using the scrolling extension to create the effect of a fixed toolbar on the top of the page while still able to scroll the rest of the page via a scrollable div. Everything works fine except for when a user pulls up the keyboard in order to fill in form elements in the scrollable div. The whole body is pushed to top and the ugly url bar is shown. Is there a way to prevent this?

• JSP/Servlet CRUD form with special input field based on join table relationship

  There's database with a bunch of tables that are joined with join tables. E.g. Members and Division are joined with MembersDivisions table. JSP/Servlet login functionality has been developed, but now the CRUD functionality needs to be implemented and I was unable to find any tutorials about it, especially involving the join table(when creating new division you can add members to it, or add more to the existing one). Maybe someone could, theoretically, explain how to do the Division part of the CRUD web form?

  I am reading in a file into an array. It is reading each char, the problem arises in that it also reads a newline in the text file.   Hi, I have a problem similar to the one mentioned here. I have a program which launches a selenium browser and refreshes it every 2 seconds. My idea here was to monitor the memory usage of my application as the page is being hit. This console program does a "System.in.read" and when a user presses enter key, this stops the browser refresh thread. I run the program and it runs as I would expect it to. But when I fire jconsole and attach it to the process, it looks like jconsole waits forever to attach. This is because of the "System.in.read", apparently as shown in the JConsole source. In my code it makes perfect sense for me to terminte the browser when user presses something so is there any alternative available at all ?   What is the simplest way to implement a Modal(popup) MessageBox that allows a custom value to be entered and returned. In my case, a String. Maybe I am over thinking this but I figured I'd ask. I plan to just create a new Form. Add a label, a textbox, two buttons. Assign the textbox to a property and from my main form call a ShowDialog() on it. Will I be able to still access the property that way or should I somehow return the value? Is this a decent way of doing this?

  Hi, I'm trying to figure out the right way to display comments such that newlines and links are displayed. I know that usually, you should display user-inputs only when escaping html with h(). That of course won't display newlines or links, so I found the simple_format and auto_link methods. What I am now doing is: simple_format(santize(auto_link(comment.text))) Is this the right way to do this, and is it still safe from XSS attacks? Thanks! Eric

• Keyboard in HTML text-input disappear when WebView call 'loadUrl' again

  Hi there, I use WebView for my Androind App. I got a problem and request a solution for help. There is a textfield in the HTML page. When it gets 'focus' and then I call mWebView.setFocusableInTouchMode(true); in Java code so that the Android soft-keyboard will pop-up to let me key in. The problem is I need using multi-thread for some processes in Java and call mWebView.loadUrl(strJSCall); as callback to execute JavaScript function, but the keyboard gets hidden! The way I try is to force the keyboard to show again. But how can the keyboard always show when 'loadUrl' is called? Dose anyone meet the same issue and solve it already? Sincerely, Jr.

• grep 5 seconds of input from the serial port inside a shell-script

  I've got a device that I'm operating next to my PC and as it runs it's spitting log lines out it's serial port. I have this wired to my PC and I can see the log lines fine if I'm using either minicom or something like: ttylog -b 115200 -d /dev/ttyS0 I want to write 5 seconds of the device serial output to a temp file (or assign it to a variable) and then later grep that file for keywords that will let me know how the device is operating. I've already tried redirecting the output to a file while running the command in the background, and then sleeping 5 seconds and killing the process, but the log lines never get written to my temp file. Example: touch tempFile ttylog -b 115200 -d /dev/ttyS0 >> tempFile & serialPID=$! sleep 5 #kill ${serialPID} #does not work, gets wrong PID killall ttylog cat tempFile The file gets created but never filled with any data. I can also replace the ttylog line with: ttylog -b 115200 -d /dev/ttyS0 |tee -a tempFile & In neither case do I ever see any log lines logged to stdout or the log file unless I have multiple versions of ttylog running by mistake (see commented out line, D'oh). I have no idea what's going on here. It seems to be a failure of redirection within my script. Am I on the right track? Is there a better way to sample 5 seconds of the serial port?
