  • Adding a MySQL StoredProcedure causes not responding state

    - by Omie
Hello I'm on Windows 7 ultimate 32bit + xampp 1.7.2 [MySQL v5.1.37] This is my stored procedure : delimiter // CREATE PROCEDURE updatePoints(IN parentid INT(5),IN userid INT(5)) DECLARE chpoints INT(5); BEGIN SELECT points INTO chpoints FROM quiz_challenges WHERE id = parentid; UPDATE quiz_users SET points = points + chpoints WHERE forumid=userid; END; // delimiter ; At first it was showing error 1064 while creating stored procedure. I added delimiters part and when I tried running the query from phpmyadmin, Firefox went into not responding state. After that I started Internet Explorer and tried opening my pages which use the same database, it worked fine. However, I tried opening phpmyadmin and IE went into not responding state as well. I restarted both servers. Later restarted PC. Tried again but its same behavior. So whats wrong with this tiny little code ? Am I missing something which might be causing infinite loop ? Thanks

  • MySQL Connector/Net 6.4.6 Maintenance Release has been released

    - by fernando
MySQL Connector/Net 6.4.6, a new version of the all-managed .NET driver for MySQL has been released.  This is a maintenance release and is recommended for use in production environments. It is appropriate for use with MySQL server versions 5.0-5.6. This is intended to be the final release for Connector/NET 6.4. It is now available in source and binary form from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/#downloads and mirror sites (note that not all mirror sites may be up to date at this point-if you can't find this version on some mirror, please try again later or choose another download site.) The 6.4.6 version of MySQL Connector/Net brings the following fixes: - Fix for List.Contains generates a bunch of ORs instead of more efficient IN clause in   LINQ to Entities (Oracle bug #14016344, MySql bug #64934). - Fix for error when trying to change the name of an Index on the Indexes/Keys editor; along with this fix now users can change the Index type of a new Index which could not be done   in previous versions, and when changing the Index name the change is reflected on the list view at the left side of the Index/Keys editor (Oracle bug #13613801). - Fix for stored procedure call using only its name with EF code first (MySql bug #64999, Oracle bug #14008699). - Fix for performance issue in generated EF query: .NET StartsWith/Contains/EndsWith produces MySql's locate instead of Like (MySql bug #64935, Oracle bug #14009363). - Fix for script generated for code first contains wrong alter table and wrong declaration for byte[] (MySql bug #64216, Oracle bug #13900091). - Fix for Exception thrown when using cascade delete in an EDM Model-First in Entity Framework (Oracle bug #14008752, MySql bug #64779). - Fix for Session locking issue with MySqlSessionStateStore (MySql bug #63997, Oracble bug #13733054). - Fixed deleting a user profile using Profile provider (MySQL bug #64409, Oracle bug #13790123). - Fix for bug Cannot Create an Entity with a Key of Type String (MySQL bug #65289, Oracle bug #14540202). This fix checks if the type has a FixedLength facet set in order to create a char otherwise should create varchar, mediumtext or longtext types when using a String CLR type in Code First or Model First also tested in Database First. Unit tests added for Code First and ProviderManifest. - Fix for bug "CacheServerProperties can cause 'Packet too large' error" (MySQL Bug #66578 Orabug #14593547). - Fix for handling unnamed parameter in MySQLCommand. This fix allows the mysqlcommand to handle parameters without requiring naming (e.g. INSERT INTO Test (id,name) VALUES (?, ?) ) (MySQL Bug #66060, Oracle bug #14499549). - Fixed inheritance on Entity Framework Code First scenarios. Discriminator column is created using its correct type as varchar(128) (MySql bug #63920 and Oracle bug #13582335). - Fixed "Trying to customize column precision in Code First does not work" (MySql bug #65001, Oracle bug #14469048). - Fixed bug ASP.NET Membership database fails on MySql database UTF32 (MySQL bug #65144, Oracle bug #14495292). - Fix for MySqlCommand.LastInsertedId holding only 32 bit values (MySql bug #65452, Oracle bug #14171960) by changing   several internal declaration of lastinsertid from int to long. - Fixed "Decimal type should have digits at right of decimal point", now default is 2, but user's changes in   EDM designer are recognized (MySql bug #65127, Oracle bug #14474342). - Fix for NullReferenceException when saving an uninitialized row in Entity Framework (MySql bug #66066, Oracle bug #14479715). - Fix for error when calling RoleProvider.RemoveUserFromRole(): causes an exception due to a wrong table being used (MySql bug #65805, Oracle bug #14405338). - Fix for "Memory Leak on MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand", too many MemoryStream's instances created (MySql bug #65696, Oracle bug #14468204). - Small improvement on MySqlPoolManager CleanIdleConnections for better mysqlpoolmanager idlecleanuptimer at startup (MySql bug #66472 and Oracle bug #14652624). - Fix for bug TIMESTAMP values are mistakenly represented as DateTime with Kind = Local (Mysql bug #66964, Oracle bug #14740705). - Fix for bug Keyword not supported. Parameter name: AttachDbFilename (Mysql bug #66880, Oracle bug #14733472). - Added support to MySql script file to retrieve data when using "SHOW" statements. - Fix for Package Load Failure in Visual Studio 2005 (MySql bug #63073, Oracle bug #13491674). - Fix for bug "Unable to connect using IPv6 connections" (MySQL bug #67253, Oracle bug #14835718). - Added auto-generated values for Guid identity columns (MySql bug #67450, Oracle bug #15834176). - Fix for method FirstOrDefault not supported in some LINQ to Entities queries (MySql bug #67377, Oracle bug #15856964). The release is available to download at http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/6.4.html Documentation ------------------------------------- You can view current Connector/Net documentation at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/connector-net.html You can find our team blog at http://blogs.oracle.com/MySQLOnWindows. • Uninstalling MySQL for MariaDB Replacement on cPanel

    - by ImmortalFirefly
Well the first part of my day was spent researching how to remove MySQL to install MariaDB and the second part of my day was spent trying to reinstall MySQL cause something was messed up. So now I come to the masses for some help. I have a box with cPanel/WHM on it. CentOS 5.6 64 bit. I have upgraded (through WHM) MySQL to 5.5.24 and that was successful. After some research, the options I found were an intimidating Linux command with pipes greps and dashes, and another command yum remove mysql I tried that out and it appeared to remove mysql.....ish. I tried installing MariaDB from this instructions page and it started to do it's thing and then came the zillions of errors (here's a small sample): Transaction Check Error: file /etc/init.d/mysql from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 file /usr/bin/mysql_convert_table_format from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 file /usr/bin/mysql_install_db from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 file /usr/bin/mysql_secure_installation from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 file /usr/bin/mysqlbug from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 file /usr/bin/mysqld_multi from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 file /usr/bin/mysqld_safe from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 file /usr/bin/mysqldumpslow from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 file /usr/bin/mysqlhotcopy from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 file /usr/share/man/man1/innochecksum.1.gz from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 file /usr/share/man/man1/my_print_defaults.1.gz from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 file /usr/share/man/man1/myisam_ftdump.1.gz from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 file /usr/share/man/man1/myisamchk.1.gz from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 file /usr/share/man/man1/myisamlog.1.gz from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.25-1.i386 conflicts with file from package MySQL-server-5.5.24-1.cp.1132.x86_64 So it appeared that MySQL wasn't removed correctly. I've read from different tutorials given on different sites that to install MariaDB, you had to uninstall/remove MySQL and there weren't any commands given on how to do this. Does anyone know how to "safely" remove MySQL on a WHM/cPanel server so that I can install MariaDB? Here's my repo file in case anyone needs to know... # MariaDB repository list - created 2012-07-10 17:09 UTC # http://downloads.mariadb.org/mariadb/repositories/ [mariadb] name = MariaDB baseurl = http://yum.mariadb.org/5.5/centos5-x86 gpgcheck=1

  • Double MySQL Running on Mountain Lion

    - by Norris
After I've done a full restart, my Apache PHP server doesn't connect to Local MySQL ( connecting via 127.0.0.1 because localhost for some reason fails always ). So I did this today: ? ~ mysqladmin shutdown -u root -p Enter password: ? ~ mysqladmin shutdown -u root -p Enter password: mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)' Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/tmp/mysql.sock' exists! Which basically means that I succeeded in shutting down mysql. But as soon as I did - Apache PHP successfully connect to MySQL and my local sites work without a hiccup until the next restart. Here are a few other details: (as you can tell - I've installed MySQL via brew) ? ~ sudo ps aux | grep mysql N 4774 0.0 0.0 2432768 620 s000 S+ 9:53AM 0:00.00 grep mysql N 4772 0.0 2.6 3030168 440688 ?? S 9:47AM 0:00.45 mysqld ? ~ lsof -i | grep mysql mysqld 4362 N 16u IPv6 0x76959e40691f9f93 0t0 TCP *:mysql (LISTEN) This is the weird thing: ? ~ killall -9 mysqld MySQL Is dead! Apache doesn't connect. Then, when I run: ? ~ sudo mysqladmin shutdown -u root -p Enter password: Apache is (again) able to successfully connect to MySQL. As far as I understand this means that I have two mysql servers setup and both of them are trying to start up at the same time, but I don't have the slightest idea on how to fix it. I've tried brew reinstalling but that didn't help. ? ~ which mysqladmin /usr/local/bin/mysqladmin ? ~ whence -p mysql /usr/local/bin/mysql

  • Why are symbolic links not working in MySQL?

    - by Eno
    I'm having an issue, I searched a lot but I'm not sure if it's related to a previous security patch. On the last version of MySQL on Debian Lenny ( 5.0.51a-24 ) I need to share one table between two db, those two db are in the same path ( /var/lib/mysql/db1 & db2 ). I created symbolic links for db2 pointing to the table in db1. When I query the same table from db2 I get this : 'ERROR 1030 (HY000): Got error 140 from storage engine' This is how it looks : test-lan:/var/lib/mysql/test3# ls -alh drwx------ 2 mysql mysql 4.0K 2010-08-30 13:28 . drwxr-xr-x 6 mysql mysql 4.0K 2010-08-30 13:29 .. lrwxrwxrwx 1 mysql mysql 28 2010-08-30 13:28 blbl.frm -> /var/lib/mysql/test/blbl.frm lrwxrwxrwx 1 mysql mysql 28 2010-08-30 13:28 blbl.MYD -> /var/lib/mysql/test/blbl.MYD lrwxrwxrwx 1 mysql mysql 28 2010-08-30 13:28 blbl.MYI -> /var/lib/mysql/test/blbl.MYI -rw-rw---- 1 mysql mysql 65 2010-08-30 13:24 db.opt I really need those symlinks, is there a way to make them working like before ?   • MySQL taking a long time to start

    - by Dscoduc
I'm running Windows Server 2008 with MySQL installed and every time I reboot the server the MySQL Service doesn't start right away. A look into the Windows Eventlog shows that the MySQL Service was hung at startup. Looking at the Services.msc console shows the service state at Starting... Eventually, like 10 minutes, the MySQL Service actually finishes the startup process and the database becomes available for my Wordpress server... I looked at the MySQL .err files and didn't find anything that would indicate a delay in the statup process... Can anyone suggest a way to determine what is causing the delay, and more importantly, how to prevent the delay in the MySQL Startup? UPDATE: Here is the .err log contents from the shutdown to the startup complete. Notice the startup begins at 10:30:00 and the MySQL isn't ready for connections until 10:47:14, a full 17 minutes later: 100322 10:27:06 [Note] C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqld: Normal shutdown 100322 10:27:06 [Note] Event Scheduler: Purging the queue. 0 events 100322 10:27:06 InnoDB: Starting shutdown... 100322 10:27:08 InnoDB: Shutdown completed; log sequence number 4 3854351346 100322 10:27:08 [Warning] Forcing shutdown of 1 plugins 100322 10:27:08 [Note] C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqld: Shutdown complete 100322 10:30:00 [Note] Plugin 'FEDERATED' is disabled. 100322 10:30:01 InnoDB: Started; log sequence number 4 3854351346 100322 10:47:14 [Note] Event Scheduler: Loaded 0 events 100322 10:47:14 [Note] C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqld: ready for connections. UPDATE 2: MySQL is configured as a service (part of the install process, nothing I did) and executes the following syntax (as it appears in the registry): "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqld" --defaults-file="C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\my.ini" MySQL

  • MySQL Cluster 7.3 Labs Release – Foreign Keys Are In!

We are therefore extremely excited to announce that Foreign Keys are part of the first Labs Release of MySQL Cluster 7.3 – available for download, evaluation and feedback now! (Select the mysql-cluster-7.3-labs-June-2012 build) In this blog, I will attempt to discuss the design rationale, implementation, configuration and steps to get started in evaluating the first MySQL Cluster 7.3 Labs Release. Pace of Innovation It was only a couple of months ago that we announced the General Availability (GA) of MySQL Cluster 7.2, delivering 1 billion Queries per Minute, with 70x higher cross-shard JOIN performance, Memcached NoSQL key-value API and cross-data center replication.  This release has been a huge hit, with downloads and deployments quickly reaching record levels. The announcement of the first MySQL Cluster 7.3 Early Access lab release at today's MySQL Innovation Day event demonstrates the continued pace in Cluster development, and provides an opportunity for the community to evaluate and feedback on new features they want to see. What’s the Plan for MySQL Cluster 7.3? Well, Foreign Keys, as you may have gathered by now (!), and this is the focus of this first Labs Release. As with MySQL Cluster 7.2, we plan to publish a series of preview releases for 7.3 that will incrementally add new candidate features for a final GA release (subject to usual safe harbor statement below*), including: - New NoSQL APIs; - Features to automate the configuration and provisioning of multi-node clusters, on premise or in the cloud; - Performance and scalability enhancements; - Taking advantage of features in the latest MySQL 5.x Server GA. Design Rationale MySQL Cluster is designed as a “Not-Only-SQL” database. It combines attributes that enable users to blend the best of both relational and NoSQL technologies into solutions that deliver web scalability with 99.999% availability and real-time performance, including: Concurrent NoSQL and SQL access to the database; Auto-sharding with simple scale-out across commodity hardware; Multi-master replication with failover and recovery both within and across data centers; Shared-nothing architecture with no single point of failure; Online scaling and schema changes; ACID compliance and support for complex queries, across shards. Native support for Foreign Key constraints enables users to extend the benefits of MySQL Cluster into a broader range of use-cases, including: - Packaged applications in areas such as eCommerce and Web Content Management that prescribe databases with Foreign Key support. - In-house developments benefiting from Foreign Key constraints to simplify data models and eliminate the additional application logic needed to maintain data consistency and integrity between tables. Implementation The Foreign Key functionality is implemented directly within MySQL Cluster’s data nodes, allowing any client API accessing the cluster to benefit from them – whether using SQL or one of the NoSQL interfaces (Memcached, C++, Java, JPA or HTTP/REST.) The core referential actions defined in the SQL:2003 standard are implemented: CASCADE RESTRICT NO ACTION SET NULL In addition, the MySQL Cluster implementation supports the online adding and dropping of Foreign Keys, ensuring the Cluster continues to serve both read and write requests during the operation. An important difference to note with the Foreign Key implementation in InnoDB is that MySQL Cluster does not support the updating of Primary Keys from within the Data Nodes themselves - instead the UPDATE is emulated with a DELETE followed by an INSERT operation. Therefore an UPDATE operation will return an error if the parent reference is using a Primary Key, unless using CASCADE action, in which case the delete operation will result in the corresponding rows in the child table being deleted. The Engineering team plans to change this behavior in a subsequent preview release. Also note that when using InnoDB "NO ACTION" is identical to "RESTRICT". In the case of MySQL Cluster “NO ACTION” means “deferred check”, i.e. the constraint is checked before commit, allowing user-defined triggers to automatically make changes in order to satisfy the Foreign Key constraints. Configuration There is nothing special you have to do here – Foreign Key constraint checking is enabled by default. If you intend to migrate existing tables from another database or storage engine, for example from InnoDB, there are a couple of best practices to observe: 1. Analyze the structure of the Foreign Key graph and run the ALTER TABLE ENGINE=NDB in the correct sequence to ensure constraints are enforced 2. Alternatively drop the Foreign Key constraints prior to the import process and then recreate when complete. Getting Started Read this blog for a demonstration of using Foreign Keys with MySQL Cluster.  You can download MySQL Cluster 7.3 Labs Release with Foreign Keys today - (select the mysql-cluster-7.3-labs-June-2012 build) If you are new to MySQL Cluster, the Getting Started guide will walk you through installing an evaluation cluster on a singe host (these guides reflect MySQL Cluster 7.2, but apply equally well to 7.3) Post any questions to the MySQL Cluster forum where our Engineering team will attempt to assist you. Post any bugs you find to the MySQL bug tracking system (select MySQL Cluster from the Category drop-down menu) And if you have any feedback, please post them to the Comments section of this blog. Summary MySQL Cluster 7.2 is the GA, production-ready release of MySQL Cluster. This first Labs Release of MySQL Cluster 7.3 gives you the opportunity to preview and evaluate future developments in the MySQL Cluster database, and we are very excited to be able to share that with you. Let us know how you get along with MySQL Cluster 7.3, and other features that you want to see in future releases. * Safe Harbor Statement This information is intended to outline our general product direction. • How to log error queries in mysql?

    - by user271768
I know that there is general_log that logs all queries, but I want to find out which query has an error, and get the error message. I have tried running an error query on purpose, but it logs as a normal query and doesn't report it with error. Any ideas?

Hi everybody, I have this query: SELECT `manufacturers`.*, `languages`.*, COUNT(`products`.`id`) AS productcount FROM (`manufacturers`) WHERE manufacturers.flushed = 0 JOIN `languages` ON `manufacturers`.`lang` = `languages`.`id` LEFT OUTER JOIN `products` ON `products`.`manuf` = `manufacturers`.`mid` GROUP BY manufacturers.id ORDER BY `languages`.`id` asc, `manufacturers`.`mid` asc; Without the WHERE row, everything works great, but with it, I get a Error 1064 (Syntax error) thrown in my face. I guess that it has something to do with the actual placement of the WHERE row in the query, so I tried to move it around, but without any luck. What can I do?

  • How to add 1 to the value of a column of an existing row in mysql

    - by mithun1538
Hello everyone, I have a table called pollData. It will always contain only 1 row. It has columns option1, option2, option3, option4, option5 each of type int. In the beginning, these columns have 0 as their value. How do I add 1 to any column, say option2? I mean do i retrieve the value of that column first, perform addition, and store back, or is there any auto increment function?

  • MySQL & PHP Parameter 1 as Resource

    - by Nik
Alright, PHP is throwing this error at me (in the log) when I run the code mentioned below: Error mysql_num_rows() expects parameter 1 to be resource, string given in (place) on line 10 Line 9-11 $queryFP = ("SELECT * FROM db"); $countFP = mysql_num_rows($queryFP); $aID = rand(1, $countFP); I think it has something to do with the $queryFP's syntax, but I'm not completely sure how to fix it since $queryFP's syntax is the simplest query I've ever seen.

  • MySQL INSERT with table alias

    - by Max Kielland
Hello, I happen to have two columns having the same name as two SQL reserved words, Key and Value. When using the SELECT statement I can create a table alias and solve it that way. Now I'm trying to INSERT data and it seems like you can't create table alias in the INSERT statement. INSERT INTO attributeStrings ats (ats.ItemID,ats.Key,ats.Value) VALUES (3,'Categories','TechGUI') I get error at 'ats (ats.ItemID,ats.Key,ats.Value) VALUES (3,'Categories','TechGUI')' indicating that alias can't be created. Are there any ways to solve this without renaming the columns Key and Value?

Hi all, I'm tryng to build a stored procedure that makes use of another stored proceudre. • MySQL Replication Over SSH - Last_IO_Errno: 2003 - error connecting to master

    - by Dom
I have MySQL MASTER/SLAVE replication working on two test boxes (Centos 6.4 / MySQL 5.5.32) over LAN. Securing the connection over ssh causes connection problems from the SLAVE machine: (Sample of show slave status \G Output) Last_IO_Errno: 2003 Last_IO_Error: error connecting to master '[email protected]:3305' - retry-time: 60 I have granted the replication user the relevant privileges on the master server with both 127.0.0.1 and the network IP. I have forwarded the port from slave to master over SSH ssh -f 192.168.0.128 -L 3305:192.168.0.128:3306 -N I can connect to master MySQL from slave with mysql -urep -ppassword -h127.0.0.1 -P3305 The master server setup would seem fine, as it works without a tunnel, and the tunnel seems fine, as I can connect to MySQL between the two. Change Master Statement: CHANGE MASTER TO MASTER_HOST='127.0.0.1', MASTER_PORT=3305, MASTER_USER='rep', MASTER_PASSWORD='password'; Note: I know there are reasons to use SSL, instead of SSH, but I have reasons why SSH is a better choice for my setup.

  • restoring myisam mysql db on a different machine

    - by RainDoctor
I have copied the web db directory(/var/lib/mysql/data/web/), when mysql is not running. I transferred this directory to another machine, where mysql is running. web db's stuff is myisam based. I am thinking about how to restore this on a different server. The strategy I have on my mind is the following. copy the data directory of web db to the new server. on new server, 'create database web', which creates a directory in /var/lib/mysql/data copy all files from the step to the new directory created in 2. bounce mysql My question: how to deal with information_schema for this new db?

  • MySQL 5.1.49 freezing every two days

    - by maximus
Hi all, our mysql system is "freezing" every two days. By "freezing" i mean the following: it doesn't respond to ping we can't login with SSH we don't get any answer from MySQL there is no entry in the error logs! neither from linux neither from MySQL. we have already changed to a completely new hardware, we have the same problem, so it's definitely not a hardware problem. we do not have any other software installed except a firewall (iptables rule) we can restart the server from another server using rsyslog (www.rsyslog.com)(software reset) Could someone help me, by giving me some pointers what could i do to figure out the problem? • MySQL Database Replication and Server Load

    - by Willy
Hi Everyone, I have an online service with around 5000 MySQL databases. Now, I am interested in building a development area of the exactly same environment in my office, therefore, I am about to setup MySQL replication between my live MySQL server and development MySQL server. But my concern is the load which will occur on my live MySQL server once replication is started. Do you have any experience? Will this process cause extra load on my production server? Thanks, have a nice weekend.

I'd love to have a kick in the right direction with the MySQL config so I'm not blindly altering it based on the MySQLTuner without understanding what I'm changing. Thanks

  • Replicate Oracle to MySQL

    - by Rosdi
I am developing a web apps, this web application will be using MySQL. Now I need to replicate my client's Oracle database into MySQL, only a few tables will be involved.. a table can be up to 2-3 million rows. I only have SELECT privilege on this Oracle, so don't ask me to install any kind of service on the Oracle machine. I have complete control on the MySQL side however. The replication is only one way (Oracle to MySQL). I can write a simple script to truncate MySQL table and repopulate it every night but I think this is very inefficient, there must be a better way. Is there any free tools I can use? Expensive database replication system is definitely out of the question.

  • How do I pin a particular MySQL version to avoid unnecessary upgrades?

    - by asparagino
    I'm running a MySQL server, and want to keep it up to date with regular apt-upgrades. I don't want this to cause MySQL to upgrade unless I'm doing it during scheduled downtime! How do I alter my apt-preferences so that this won't happen? I've tried adding this to a file as /etc/apt/preferences.d/pin-mysql Package: mysql-client-5.1 Pin: version 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.7 Pin-Priority: 1001 Package: mysql-client-core-5.1 Pin: version 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.7 Pin-Priority: 1001 Package: mysql-common Pin: version 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.7 Pin-Priority: 1001 Package: mysql-server Pin: version 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.7 Pin-Priority: 1001 Package: mysql-server-5.1 Pin: version 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.7 Pin-Priority: 1001 Package: mysql-server-core-5.1 Pin: version 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.7 Pin-Priority: 1001 That then states the packages are pinned with "apt-cache policy" outputting: ... all package sources here 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-security/universe Packages release v=10.04,o=Ubuntu,a=lucid-security,n=lucid,l=Ubuntu,c=universe origin security.ubuntu.com 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-security/restricted Packages release v=10.04,o=Ubuntu,a=lucid-security,n=lucid,l=Ubuntu,c=restricted origin security.ubuntu.com ... etc Pinned packages: mysql-server -> 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.7 mysql-server-core-5.1 -> 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.7 mysql-client-core-5.1 -> 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.7 mysql-common -> 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.7 mysql-server-5.1 -> 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.7 mysql-client-5.1 -> 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.7 However... running aptitude safe-upgrade just updated MySQL... what am I doing wrong?
