  • structure inside structure - c++ Error

    - by gamadeus
    First of all the error I am getting is of the type: Request for member 's' of struct1.struct1::struct2, which is of non class type '__u32' where: struct struct1 { struct x struct2; struct x struct3; struct x struct4; }; The usage is of the form: struct struct1 st1; st1.struct2.s = Value; Now my struct1 is: struct ip_mreq_source { struct in_addr imr_multiaddr; struct in_addr imr_sourceaddr; struct in_addr imr_interface; }; struct 'x' is in_addr Where: typedef uint32_t in_addr_t; struct in_addr { in_addr_t s_addr; }; element 's' is the element s_addr in in_addr. My detailed error coming out of g++ (GCC 4.4.3) from the Android based compiler: arm-linux-androideabi-g++ -MMD -MP -MF groupsock/GroupsockHelper.o.d.org -fpic -ffunction-sections -funwind-tables -fstack-protector -D__ARM_ARCH_5__ -D__ARM_ARCH_5T__ -D__ARM_ARCH_5E__ -D__ARM_ARCH_5TE__ -Wno-psabi -march=armv5te -mtune=xscale -msoft-float -fno-exceptions -fno-rtti -mthumb -Os -fomit-frame-pointer -fno-strict-aliasing -finline- limit=64 -Igroupsock/include -Igroupsock/../UsageEnvironment/include -Iandroid- ndk-r5b/sources/cxx-stl/system/include -Igroupsock -DANDROID -Wa,--noexecstack -DANDROID_NDK -Wall -fexceptions -O2 -DNDEBUG -g -Iandroid-8/arch-arm/usr/include -c groupsock/GroupsockHelper.cpp -o groupsock/GroupsockHelper.o && rm -f groupsock/GroupsockHelper.o.d && mv groupsock/GroupsockHelper.o.d.org groupsock/GroupsockHelper.o.d groupsock/GroupsockHelper.cpp: In function 'Boolean socketJoinGroupSSM(UsageEnvironment&, int, netAddressBits, netAddressBits)': groupsock/GroupsockHelper.cpp:427: error: request for member 's_addr' in 'imr.ip_mreq_source::imr_multiaddr', which is of non-class type '__u32' groupsock/GroupsockHelper.cpp:428: error: request for member 's_addr' in 'imr.ip_mreq_source::imr_sourceaddr', which is of non-class type '__u32' groupsock/GroupsockHelper.cpp:429: error: request for member 's_addr' in 'imr.ip_mreq_source::imr_interface', which is of non-class type '__u32' I am not sure what is causing the error. Any pointers would be great - no pun intended. Thanks

  • Calculating the Size (in Bytes and MB) of a Oracle Coherence Cache

    - by Ricardo Ferreira
    The concept and usage of data grids are becoming very popular in this days since this type of technology are evolving very fast with some cool lead products like Oracle Coherence. Once for a while, developers need an programmatic way to calculate the total size of a specific cache that are residing in the data grid. In this post, I will show how to accomplish this using Oracle Coherence API. This example has been tested with 3.6, 3.7 and 3.7.1 versions of Oracle Coherence. To start the development of this example, you need to create a POJO ("Plain Old Java Object") that represents a data structure that will hold user data. This data structure will also create an internal fat so I call that should increase considerably the size of each instance in the heap memory. Create a Java class named "Person" as shown in the listing below. package com.oracle.coherence.domain; import java.io.Serializable; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.HashMap; import java.util.List; import java.util.Random; @SuppressWarnings("serial") public class Person implements Serializable { private String firstName; private String lastName; private List<Object> fat; private String email; public Person() { generateFat(); } public Person(String firstName, String lastName, String email) { setFirstName(firstName); setLastName(lastName); setEmail(email); generateFat(); } private void generateFat() { fat = new ArrayList<Object>(); Random random = new Random(); for (int i = 0; i < random.nextInt(18000); i++) { HashMap<Long, Double> internalFat = new HashMap<Long, Double>(); for (int j = 0; j < random.nextInt(10000); j++) { internalFat.put(random.nextLong(), random.nextDouble()); } fat.add(internalFat); } } public String getFirstName() { return firstName; } public void setFirstName(String firstName) { this.firstName = firstName; } public String getLastName() { return lastName; } public void setLastName(String lastName) { this.lastName = lastName; } public String getEmail() { return email; } public void setEmail(String email) { this.email = email; } } Now let's create a Java program that will start a data grid into Coherence and will create a cache named "People", that will hold people instances with sequential integer keys. Each person created in this program will trigger the execution of a custom constructor created in the People class that instantiates an internal fat (the random amount of data generated to increase the size of the object) for each person. Create a Java class named "CreatePeopleCacheAndPopulateWithData" as shown in the listing below. package com.oracle.coherence.demo; import com.oracle.coherence.domain.Person; import com.tangosol.net.CacheFactory; import com.tangosol.net.NamedCache; public class CreatePeopleCacheAndPopulateWithData { public static void main(String[] args) { // Asks Coherence for a new cache named "People"... NamedCache people = CacheFactory.getCache("People"); // Creates three people that will be putted into the data grid. Each person // generates an internal fat that should increase its size in terms of bytes... Person pessoa1 = new Person("Ricardo", "Ferreira", "[email protected]"); Person pessoa2 = new Person("Vitor", "Ferreira", "[email protected]"); Person pessoa3 = new Person("Vivian", "Ferreira", "[email protected]"); // Insert three people at the data grid... people.put(1, pessoa1); people.put(2, pessoa2); people.put(3, pessoa3); // Waits for 5 minutes until the user runs the Java program // that calculates the total size of the people cache... try { System.out.println("---> Waiting for 5 minutes for the cache size calculation..."); Thread.sleep(300000); } catch (InterruptedException ie) { ie.printStackTrace(); } } } Finally, let's create a Java program that, using the Coherence API and JMX, will calculate the total size of each cache that the data grid is currently managing. The approach used in this example was retrieve every cache that the data grid are currently managing, but if you are interested on an specific cache, the same approach can be used, you should only filter witch cache will be looked for. Create a Java class named "CalculateTheSizeOfPeopleCache" as shown in the listing below. package com.oracle.coherence.demo; import java.text.DecimalFormat; import java.util.Map; import java.util.Set; import java.util.TreeMap; import javax.management.MBeanServer; import javax.management.MBeanServerFactory; import javax.management.ObjectName; import com.tangosol.net.CacheFactory; public class CalculateTheSizeOfPeopleCache { @SuppressWarnings({ "unchecked", "rawtypes" }) private void run() throws Exception { // Enable JMX support in this Coherence data grid session... System.setProperty("tangosol.coherence.management", "all"); // Create a sample cache just to access the data grid... CacheFactory.getCache(MBeanServerFactory.class.getName()); // Gets the JMX server from Coherence data grid... MBeanServer jmxServer = getJMXServer(); // Creates a internal data structure that would maintain // the statistics from each cache in the data grid... Map cacheList = new TreeMap(); Set jmxObjectList = jmxServer.queryNames(new ObjectName("Coherence:type=Cache,*"), null); for (Object jmxObject : jmxObjectList) { ObjectName jmxObjectName = (ObjectName) jmxObject; String cacheName = jmxObjectName.getKeyProperty("name"); if (cacheName.equals(MBeanServerFactory.class.getName())) { continue; } else { cacheList.put(cacheName, new Statistics(cacheName)); } } // Updates the internal data structure with statistic data // retrieved from caches inside the in-memory data grid... Set<String> cacheNames = cacheList.keySet(); for (String cacheName : cacheNames) { Set resultSet = jmxServer.queryNames( new ObjectName("Coherence:type=Cache,name=" + cacheName + ",*"), null); for (Object resultSetRef : resultSet) { ObjectName objectName = (ObjectName) resultSetRef; if (objectName.getKeyProperty("tier").equals("back")) { int unit = (Integer) jmxServer.getAttribute(objectName, "Units"); int size = (Integer) jmxServer.getAttribute(objectName, "Size"); Statistics statistics = (Statistics) cacheList.get(cacheName); statistics.incrementUnit(unit); statistics.incrementSize(size); cacheList.put(cacheName, statistics); } } } // Finally... print the objects from the internal data // structure that represents the statistics from caches... cacheNames = cacheList.keySet(); for (String cacheName : cacheNames) { Statistics estatisticas = (Statistics) cacheList.get(cacheName); System.out.println(estatisticas); } } public MBeanServer getJMXServer() { MBeanServer jmxServer = null; for (Object jmxServerRef : MBeanServerFactory.findMBeanServer(null)) { jmxServer = (MBeanServer) jmxServerRef; if (jmxServer.getDefaultDomain().equals(DEFAULT_DOMAIN) || DEFAULT_DOMAIN.length() == 0) { break; } jmxServer = null; } if (jmxServer == null) { jmxServer = MBeanServerFactory.createMBeanServer(DEFAULT_DOMAIN); } return jmxServer; } private class Statistics { private long unit; private long size; private String cacheName; public Statistics(String cacheName) { this.cacheName = cacheName; } public void incrementUnit(long unit) { this.unit += unit; } public void incrementSize(long size) { this.size += size; } public long getUnit() { return unit; } public long getSize() { return size; } public double getUnitInMB() { return unit / (1024.0 * 1024.0); } public double getAverageSize() { return size == 0 ? 0 : unit / size; } public String toString() { StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer(); sb.append("\nCache Statistics of '").append(cacheName).append("':\n"); sb.append(" - Total Entries of Cache -----> " + getSize()).append("\n"); sb.append(" - Used Memory (Bytes) --------> " + getUnit()).append("\n"); sb.append(" - Used Memory (MB) -----------> " + FORMAT.format(getUnitInMB())).append("\n"); sb.append(" - Object Average Size --------> " + FORMAT.format(getAverageSize())).append("\n"); return sb.toString(); } } public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { new CalculateTheSizeOfPeopleCache().run(); } public static final DecimalFormat FORMAT = new DecimalFormat("###.###"); public static final String DEFAULT_DOMAIN = ""; public static final String DOMAIN_NAME = "Coherence"; } I've commented the overall example so, I don't think that you should get into trouble to understand it. Basically we are dealing with JMX. The first thing to do is enable JMX support for the Coherence client (ie, an JVM that will only retrieve values from the data grid and will not integrate the cluster) application. This can be done very easily using the runtime "tangosol.coherence.management" system property. Consult the Coherence documentation for JMX to understand the possible values that could be applied. The program creates an in memory data structure that holds a custom class created called "Statistics". This class represents the information that we are interested to see, which in this case are the size in bytes and in MB of the caches. An instance of this class is created for each cache that are currently managed by the data grid. Using JMX specific methods, we retrieve the information that are relevant for calculate the total size of the caches. To test this example, you should execute first the CreatePeopleCacheAndPopulateWithData.java program and after the CreatePeopleCacheAndPopulateWithData.java program. The results in the console should be something like this: 2012-06-23 13:29:31.188/4.970 Oracle Coherence 3.6.0.4 <Info> (thread=Main Thread, member=n/a): Loaded operational configuration from "jar:file:/E:/Oracle/Middleware/oepe_11gR1PS4/workspace/calcular-tamanho-cache-coherence/lib/coherence.jar!/tangosol-coherence.xml" 2012-06-23 13:29:31.219/5.001 Oracle Coherence 3.6.0.4 <Info> (thread=Main Thread, member=n/a): Loaded operational overrides from "jar:file:/E:/Oracle/Middleware/oepe_11gR1PS4/workspace/calcular-tamanho-cache-coherence/lib/coherence.jar!/tangosol-coherence-override-dev.xml" 2012-06-23 13:29:31.219/5.001 Oracle Coherence 3.6.0.4 <D5> (thread=Main Thread, member=n/a): Optional configuration override "/tangosol-coherence-override.xml" is not specified 2012-06-23 13:29:31.266/5.048 Oracle Coherence 3.6.0.4 <D5> (thread=Main Thread, member=n/a): Optional configuration override "/custom-mbeans.xml" is not specified Oracle Coherence Version 3.6.0.4 Build 19111 Grid Edition: Development mode Copyright (c) 2000, 2010, Oracle and/or its affiliates. • how to refer to the current struct in an overloaded operator?

    - by genesys
    Hi! I have a struct for which i want to define a relative order by defining < , , <= and = operators. actually in my order there won't be any equality, so if one struct is not smaller than another, it's automatically larger. I defined the first operator like this: struct MyStruct{ ... ... bool operator < (const MyStruct &b) const {return (somefancycomputation);} }; now i'd like to define the other operators based on this operator, such that <= will return the same as < and the other two will simply return the oposite. so for example for the operator i'd like to write something like bool operator > (const MyStruct &b) const {return !(self<b);} but i don't know how to refere to this 'self' since i can refere only to the fields inside the current struct. whole is in C++ hope my question was understandable :) thank you for the help!

  • float** allocation limit + serialized struct problem. Need advice!

    - by jmgunn
    basically im getting an allocation limit error/warning when i create a float** array. the function i am calling to fill the float** retrieves data from a struct loaded from a file. The function works fine when i use one object but when i load 2 objects into memory i get the limit error. I am pretty sure this is to do with byte alignment or a similar thing because my struct is saved with a float** member which i am sure you are not susposed to do !?! Please confirm this! The next question i have now is how to save/serialize the float** member of this struct? I cant really afford to put an upper bound on the array ie "float [10000][3]" because i need/want to use this structure as a base for many other types of objects that may have well under the upper bound. Stroking my chin here! Any help/advice will recieve my highest gratitude. BTW these said struct objects will be used in a game/graphics package, the float** is a float[3] array for storing vertices in a model. Much thanks in advance

  • How do i change the address of a New struct in a loop?!

    - by Yasin
    Hi guys, i'm writing a simple code which is about polynomials using link lists in C#. the problem i have is that whenever it creates a new struct (node) in the for loop it gives it the same address as the previous node was given. so how do i fix it ? here is my struct : struct poly { public int coef; public int pow; public poly* link;} ; and here is the where the problem occurs: for (; i < this.textBox1.Text.Length; i++) { q = new poly(); ...... p->link = &q; } &q remains unchanged !

  • Is html font size using em still important

    - by JohnnyHTML
    In a web LOB web based SaaS product we are developing that we explicitly not support IE 6, only IE7/8, FF 3, Chrome, Opera, WebKit etc... which allow px resize as standard, is it still important to use em rather than px? Its a lot more work to consider the compute font size (size em are computed from their inheritance chain) especially when nesting html reuse components where a font-size has already been specified in an outer container.

  • How is font-size not working here?

    - by markvgti
    Following advice in The 6 Most Important CSS Techniques You Need To Know, I set my body's font-size to 62.5%, the container div's font-size to 1.4 em (slight variation from the article). p.tags and p.published's font-size is set to 1em. However, this doesn't work for me. Both the normal text and text in p.tags and p.published comes out to be the same size (16.8px as computed by Firebug). Can you explain why my code isn't working? I am testing in Firefox 3.6.3. The sample page shown by the author works just fine in the very same browser. I've reproduced the entire page below—apologies for the length of it, but I thought it better to not leave out anything. <html> <head> <title>Title</title> <style type="text/css"> body { font-family: Georgia, "Century Schoolbook", "Times New Roman", Serif; font-size: 62.5%; background-color: #2B3856; /* Dark slate blue */ } h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 { font-family: Verdana, Helvetica, Tahoma, "Sans Serif"; color: #2B3856; margin-top: 2px; } h1 a, h2 a, h3 a, h4 a, h5 a, h6 a { text-decoration: none; color: #2B3856; } h1 a:hover, h2 a:hover, h3 a:hover, h4 a:hover, h5 a:hover, h6 a:hover { text-decoration: underline; } div#container { width: 800px; font-size: 1.4em; margin: 5px auto; background-color: #E3E4FA; /* Lavender */ } #sidebar { width: 200px; float: right; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; } #sidebar div { padding: 0 5px 5px; } #sidebar div.shadowbox { margin-right: 5px; } #content { width: 600px; float: left; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; } #header { /*background-color: white;*/ background-color: #2B3856; /* #E3E4FA; Lavender */ margin-bottom: 5px; height: 100px; } #header h1 { color: #B93B8F; /* Plum */ line-height: 100px; text-align: center; font-size: 45px; } #description { color: #7D1B7E /* Dark Orchid */ } a { text-decoration: underline; color: #153E7E; } a:hover { text-decoration: none; } div#posts { padding: 0px; font-size: 1.2em; margin: 0px; } div#posts div.post { padding: 5px; margin: 0px 5px 15px 5px; } p.tags, p.published { font-size: 1em; } .shadowbox { background: repeat 0 0 url('http://www.jawsalgorhythmics.com/images/darkness-100x100-10pct.png'); } .justifycenter { text-align: center; } .floatright { float:right; } .floatleft { float: left; } .clearright { clear: right; } .clearleft { clear:left; } .clearboth { clear: both; } .halfsidebarwidth { width: 82px; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="header"> <h1>Odds 'n Ends</h1> </div> <!-- header --> <div id="sidebar"> <div class="shadowbox"> <br /><p class="justifycenter"><img width="64" height="64" src="{PortraitURL-64}" /></p> <div class="floatleft halfsidebarwidth"><a href="/archive" class="archive">Archives</a></div> <div class="floatleft halfsidebarwidth"><a href="{RSS}" class="rss">RSS</a></div> <div class="clearboth"></div> </div> </div> <!-- sidebar --> <div id="content"> <div id="posts"> <div class="post shadowbox"> <span class="quote"> "It does not matter how slow you go so long as you do not stop." <div class="source">Wisdom of <a href="#" title="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confucius">Confucius</a></div> </span> <p class="tags">Tags: #<a href="#" title="http://demo.tumblr.com/tagged/wisdom">wisdom</a>&nbsp; </p> <p class="published">Posted: Nov 08, 2006 at 2:27 pm &nbsp;&nbsp;<a href="#" title="http://demo.tumblr.com/post/236/it-does-not-matter-how-slow-you-go-so-long-as-you">Permalink</a>&nbsp;&nbsp; <a href="#" title="http://tumblr.com/xr06k">Short URL</a></p> </div> </div> <!-- posts --> </div> <!-- content --> <div class="clearboth"></div> <div id="footer" style="text-align: justify;"> <h1>The footer</h1> </div> </div> <!-- container --> </body> </html>

  • Get computed font size for DOM element in JS

    - by Pekka
    Is it possible to detect the computed font-size of a DOM element, taking into consideration generic settings made elsewhere (In the body tag for example), inherited values, and so on? A framework-independent approach would be nice, as I'm working on a script that should work standalone, but that is not a requirement of course. Background: I'm trying to tweak CKEditor's font selector plugin (source here) so that it always shows the font size of the current cursor position (as opposed to only when within a span that has an explicit font-size set, which is the current behaviour).

  • IE font size decrease does not cause select box height to decrease

    - by leaf dev
    I have a font resize function on my page which increases the font size via javascript for the entire page. This works fine in most browsers except IE. When decreasing the font size after increasing it, the select boxes new height does not decrease, even though the font size is decreasing on it. Instead the smaller font appears to be padded with white space. Any ideas as to what IE is doing here, and a work around?

  • Can a Java HashMap's size() be out of sync with its actual entries' size ?

    - by trix
    I have a Java HashMap called statusCountMap. Calling size() results in 30. But if I count the entries manually, it's 31 This is in one of my TestNG unit tests. Anyone has experienced this ? I'm pretty sure statusCountMap is not being modified at this point. There are 2 methods (lets call them methodA and methodB) that modify statusCountMap concurrently, by repeatedly calling incrementCountInMap. private void incrementCountInMap(Map map, Long id, String qualifier) { String key = id + "-" + qualifier; if (map.get(key) == null) { map.put(key, 0); } synchronized (map) { map.put(key, map.get(key).intValue() + 1); } } methodD is where I'm getting the issue. methodD has a TestNG @dependsOnMethods = { "methodA", "methodB" } so when methodD is executing, statusCountMap is pretty much static already. I'm mentioning this because it might be a bug in TestNG. I'm using Sun JDK 1.6.0_24. TestNG is testng-5.9-jdk15.jar Hmmm ... after rereading my post, could it be because of concurrent execution of outside-of-synchronized-block map.get(key) == null & map.put(key,0) that's causing this issue ?

  • How to determine if a .NET Type is a custom struct?

    - by SztupY
    Hi! How to write a simple method, that checks whether a concrete type is a custom struct (created with public struct { };) or not. Checking Type.IsValueType is not enough, because it is also true to int, long, etc, and adding a check to !IsPrimitiveType won't exclude decimal, DateTime and maybe some other value types. I know that most of the built in value types are actually "structs", but I only want to check for "custom structs" These questions are mostly the same but without the answer I need: #1 #2 #3

  • Apache2 mod_proxy and post-multipart size

    - by Pietro
    Hi, I have Apache2 configured to proxy all traffic directed to a specific virtual host to a local tomcat instance. All is good and fine but for multipart posts larger than ~100kb. Such posts fail on the tomcat end with an exception like SocketTimeoutException. If I connect directly to Tomcat (which listens on a port != 80) then all posts are handled just fine. The Apache virtual host config goes like this: NameVirtualHost * SetOutputFilter DEFLATE <VirtualHost *> ServerName foo.bar.com ErrorLog c:/wamp/logs/foo_error.log CustomLog c:/wamp/logs/foo_access.log combined ProxyTimeout 60 ProxyPass / http://localhost:10080/foo/ ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:10080/foo/ ProxyPassReverseCookieDomain localhost bar.com ProxyPassReverseCookiePath /foo / </VirtualHost> I tried browsing the Apache2 and mod_proxy docs but found nothing useful. Any idea why Apache2 refuses to proxy requests bigger than X bytes ? Thanks!

  • C# replacing out parameters with struct

    - by Jonathan
    I'm encountering a lot of methods in my project that have a bunch of out parameters embedded in them and its making it cumbersome to call the methods as I have to start declaring the variables before calling the methods. As such, I would like to refactor the code to return a struct instead and was wondering if this is a good idea. One of the examples from an interface: void CalculateFinancialReturnTotals(FinancialReturn fr, out decimal expenses, out decimal revenue, out decimal levyA, out decimal levyB, out decimal profit, out decimal turnover, out string message) and if I was to refactor that, i would be putting all the out parameters in the struct such that the method signature is much simpler as below. [structName] CalculateFinancialReturnTotals(FinancialReturn fr); Please advise.

  • Exchange 2003 automated mailbox size report

    - by Morris
    I have a question if I may. I have been looking for a while for something that can report user mailbox sizes and percentage used against their quota or something that can warn me when a mailbox is getting close to the quota. I know the user receives a warning but how can I send that same warning a centralized mailbox so we can be pro-active in our support. Either a script or an application that can do this will be helpful. Unfortunately my scripting skills are useless for something this complex. Any ideas of what can be used will be appreciated.

  • VMware Fusion disk size

    - by churnd
    I have a Windows XP x64 install in VMware Fusion. The amount of space that the VM reports as used (C:) is ~20GB. However, the amount of space the VM is taking up on my disk is 30GB. Why the inconsistency? I do not have autoprotect enabled, nor do I have any snapshots I'm aware of. I have defragmented the drive and used Drive Cleanup from the VMware settings.

  • Minimum size of a boot partition on debian

    - by zebonaut
    I'm setting up an old box with Debian. First etch (4.0), because this is the last version that still had boot floppies, then the box is to be upgraded to lenny (5.0) and squeeze (6.0). Therefore, I will end up having a a couple of different kernel versions in the boot partition. If I don't want to be wasteful and if I end up needing a separate boot partition, how large should it be? I've used 10 MB long ago, but that was woody, and only one kernel in the boot partition, and this seems to be too small for what I want to do now.

  • Why do I get "request for member in something not a struct or union" from this code?

    - by pyroxene
    I'm trying to teach myself C by coding up a linked list. I'm new to pointers and memory management and I'm getting a bit confused. I have this code: /* Remove a node from the list and rejiggle the pointers */ void rm_node(struct node **listP, int index) { struct node *prev; struct node *n = *listP; if (index == 0) { *listP = *listP->next; free(n); return; } for (index; index > 0; index--) { n = n->next; if (index == 2) { prev = n; } } prev->next = n->next; free(n); } to remove an element from the list. If I want to remove the first node, I still need some way of referring to the list, which is why the listP arg is a double pointer, so it can point to the first element of the list and allow me to free the node that used to be the head. However, when I try to dereference listP to access the pointer to the next node, the compiler tells me error: request for member ‘next’ in something not a structure or union . What am I doing wrong here? I think I might be hopelessly mixed up..?

  • NPTL Default Stack Size Problem

    - by eyazici
    Hello, I am developing a multithread modular application using C programming language and NPTL 2.6. For each plugin, a POSIX thread is created. The problem is each thread has its own stack area, since default stack size depends on user's choice, this may results in huge memory consumption in some cases. To prevent unnecessary memory usage I used something similar to this to change stack size before creating each thread: pthread_attr_t attr; pthread_attr_init (&attr); pthread_attr_getstacksize(&attr, &st1); if(pthread_attr_setstacksize (&attr, MODULE_THREAD_SIZE) != 0) perror("Stack ERR"); pthread_attr_getstacksize(&attr, &st2); printf("OLD:%d, NEW:%d - MIN: %d\n", st1, st2, PTHREAD_STACK_MIN); pthread_attr_setdetachstate(&attr, PTHREAD_CREATE_DETACHED); /* "this" is static data structure that stores plugin related data */ pthread_create(&this->runner, &attr, (void *)(void *)this->run, NULL); EDIT I: pthread_create() section added. This did not work work as I expected, the stack size reported by pthread_attr_getstacksize() is changed but total memory usage of the application (from ps/top/pmap output) did not changed: OLD:10485760, NEW:65536 - MIN: 16384 When I use ulimit -s MY_STACK_SIZE_LIMIT before starting application I achieve the expected result. My questions are: 1-) Is there any portable(between UNIX variants) way to change (default)thread stack size after starting application(before creating thread of course)? 2-) Is it possible to use same stack area for every thread? 3-) Is it possible completely disable stack for threads without much pain?
