Are C++ enums signed or unsigned? And by extension is it safe to validate an input by checking that it is <= your max value, and leave out = your min value (assuming you started at 0 and incremented by 1)?
I know Windows close kernel handles when an application crashes, but if I want to wait on this event, can I be sure it will happen in milisec or it might take a while? I would like to trigger a new function the moment one application is crashed and I'm checking if this handle is NULL but it seems like I can't get a NULL value in this case.
We have a problem in cloning a repository created in unix in to a Windows box.
Git fails while checking out a lengthy file that has more than 32 characters in windows.
The file name is given below.
BaseFCS_x0020_OnLine_x0020_Identicheck_x0020_verification_x0020_serviceConsumer.java*
Is there a way to fix this issue in Git?
I mean, we've all done it, making some changes and the checking them in with messages such "as made some changes" or "fixed a bug." Messages so inane, so pointless, you might as well have written "magical fun bus" in their place (of this, I am guilty), as it would be, perhaps, more descriptive. I ask you then, what is the most pointless, most off topic, strangest, or just WORST commit message you have ever authored?
Hi,
I have a url like http://www.example.com/blah/th.html
I need a javascript function to give me the 'th' value from that.
All my urls have the same format (2 letter filenames, with .html extension).
I want it to be a safe function, so if someone passes in an empty url it doesn't break.
I know how to check for length, but I should be checking for null to right?
In C# 4, wasn't there a short cut for checking for null values like so:
if( myobject?.myproperty?.myotherproperty?.value != null )
The value would return null and not throw an exception.
Anyone have a link to how to use it or at least the syntax?
Is it possible to detect when a long running process started with shell-command crashes, so it can automatically be restarted? Without manually checking its buffer and restarting by hand.
I am writing a big code and I don't want it all to be in my main.c so I wrote a .inc file that has IF-ELSE statement with function and I was wondering can it be written like this:
#if var==1
process(int a)
{
printf("Result is: %d",2*a);
}
#else
process(int a)
{
printf("Result is: %d",10*a);
}
#endif
I tried to compile it but it gives me errors or in best case it just goes on the first function process without checking the var variable (it is set to 0).
When I try to install an extension apache resets.

Hey,
I'm doing a statistical research application. I need to store words according to 2 initial letters which is 676 combinations and each word has its number of occurrences (minimal, maximal, average) in text. I'm not sure how the model/schema should look like. There will be a lot of checking whether the keyword was already persisted. I appreciate your suggestions.
Edit: I'll be using either mysql or postgresql + spring templates
So I am designing a registration page and checking the username is alphanumeric.
"^([0-9a-z])+$"
I use that to do so. Is there any way I can get that to include underscores (_), dash (-), and spaces?
Thanks
User System and Passwords: I was looking through MD5 stuff, and I am wondering what is the normal/good practice for passwords. Right now, I think people super encrypt the passwords and store the hashes. If so, how does password checking work? I just have the input password go through the encryption process again and then check the hash with the stored one, correct?
This question may contradict the above, but should my salt ever be a randomly generated value?
Hello Everyone,
I am completely new to F# (and functional programming in general) but I see pattern matching used everywhere in sample code. I am wondering for example how pattern matching actually works? For example, I imagine it working the same as a for loop in other languages and checking for matches on each item in a collection. This is probably far from correct, how does it actually work behind the scenes?
w3schools says that exceptions can be strings, integers, booleans, or objects, but the example given doesn't strike me as good practice, since exception type checking is done through string comparison. Is this the preferred method of exception handling in Javascript? Are there built-in exception types (like NullPointerException)? (if so, what are they, what kind of inheritance do they use, and are they preferred over other options?)
Hello,
Can some one tell me how the Chrome's Linux beta version carry out automatic version updation using debian package manager. I need to implement something similar to my application on linux and information provided here would be of lot of help. I am currently checking out the postinst script present in the debian control package and I can see Chrome uses PGP publish/subscribe model for getting automated version updates in Linux. I just clear understanding of how that works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hi,
How do I check with C if a port on my local machine (if required by passing an IP or interface, too), is in listen state? I don't want to connect to this port for checking because I don't want to irritate the service behind this port.
I want to use this to add the missing net.tcp.listen item to Zabbix.
Hi,
In an if statement with multiple conditions is second executed if the outcome is clear after checking the first condition?
example:
if(i>0 && array[i]==0){
}
If I swap the conditions a seg fault may occur for negative values of i but this way the memory debugger doesn't find a problem. Can I be sure that this works always or do have have to use nested if statements?
I'm using Visual Studio 2008 on Windows 7. When I'm editing .aspx file VS stalls and thinks for about 3 sec every time I add a tag. Very frustrating. I'm guessing its doing some kind of compilation or checking. What can I do to make VS more responsive?
We have a database setup that consists of two parts: a static structure, and dynamic additions. For each database, the dynamic can be different, and sometimes we don't have data for all the dynamic fields. Rigt now, we check for empties by looking at the total count of records in the entire table, but we want to move to a more refined method of checking for empties if possible. Is it possible to quickly check through several hundred fields and see which ones are empty and which ones are populated?
What programming language + web framework combinations supports static type-checking? I'm not scared of functional programming (I'd prefer it), however I'm looking for a mature framework with the bells and whistles we've come to expect. Obviously this includes security and efficiency concerns.
According to this schema VS2010 Premium and Ultimate has a tool for checking Code Coverage - together with a few other testing tools. Does this support nUnit too, or just MS test?
I'd like to ensure that when I'm persisting any data to the database, using (Fluent)NHibernate, that the operations are executed inside a transaction. Is there anyway of checking that a transaction is active via an interceptor? Or any other eventing mechanism?
More specifically, I'm using the System.Transaction.TransactionScope for transaction management, and just want to stop myself from not using it.
Hi,
I've had to write an application that lists and plays tutorial videos along with accompanying text. It works well but since the videos are added by the user I need a way of checking to see whether or not a video can be played on the machine.
I'm not sure whether or not there is an easy way to try test the file (and catch errors) or if I need to start looking at codecs installed.
Does anybody have any experience with this?
