  I use Websphere Application Server 8 with MQ Series as Messaging Queue. When I open close the connection in sessionbean in a "postConstruct" method and I use it in another method then its closed. • How can I disable the CTRL-ALT-DEL key combination completely on XP/Vista/7?

  I have been googling extensively to figure this out, and nobody seems to be able to give a direct answer. Let me start by saying that I'm NOT talking about requiring CTRL-ALT-DEL to enter logon information. I'm working on a golf simulator program which is used at golf centers. I need the ability to completely disable the CTRL-ALT-DEL key sequence so that the golf center customers can't get out of the program and access the computer at all. I realize there are other key combinations that need to be handled as well, we already have this entire feature working in XP, but we're going to be switching to Windows 7 soon, and CTRL-ALT-DEL is the only one that doesn't seem to work in Win7. I'd really like an all-around solution if at all possible. This same program may also be installed on a client's personal computer for an in-home golf simulator, but the computers that really need this feature (golf center computers) are provided to the golf center by us, so would the best option be to write a new shell? I don't know anything about that at all, other than others that suggest writing a new shell for kiosk mode. I'd really like a simpler option, like modifying the registry in some way. I have heard that you can remove some buttons from the menu screen that pops up, but unless I can remove pretty much all of them (including the shutdown/restart button in the bottom-right corner), this won't be enough of a solution for me. • Hooking thread exit

  Is there a way for me to hook the exit of managed threads (i.e. run some code on a thread, just before it exits?) I've developed a mechanism for hooking thread exit that works for some threads. Step 1: develop a 'hook' STA COM class that takes a callback function and calls it in its destructor. Step 2: create a ThreadStatic instance of this object on the thread I want to hook, and pass the object a managed delegate converted to an unmanaged function pointer. The delegate then gets called on thread exit (since the CLR calls IUnknown::Release on all STA COM RCWs as part of thread exit). This mechanism works on, for example, worker threads that I create in code using the Thread class. However, it doesn't seem to work for the application's main thread (be it a console or windows app). The 'hook' COM object seems to be deleted too late in the shutdown process and the attempt to call the delegate fails. (The reason I want to implement this facility is so I can run some native COM code on the exiting thread that works with STA COM objects that were created on the thread, before it's 'too late' (i.e. before the thread has exited, and it's no longer possible to work with STA COM objects on that thread.))

And I have only select operations . And below is the method which is used most often to execute my select queries. One tricky thing which I am not understanding is in my findById method i am using this line of code getSession().beginTransaction(); without which it gives me an error saying that this cannot happpen without a transaction. But nowhere I am closing this transaction. • Silverlight WCF service consuming inherited types in datacontract

  Hi, Im trying to consume a WCF service in silverlight... What I have done is to create two seperate assemblies for my datacontracts... Assembly that contains all of my types marked with data contracts build against .Net 3.5 A Silverlight assembly which links to files in the 1st assembly. This means my .Net app can reference assembly 1 and my silverlight app assembly 2. This works fine and I can communicate across the service. The problems occur when I try to transfer inherited classed. I have the following class stucture... IFlight - an interface for all types of flights. BaseFlight : IFlight - a baseflight flight implements IFlight AdhocFlight : BaseFlight, IFlight - an adhoc flight inherits from baseflight and also implements IFlight. I can successfully transfer base flights across the service. However I really need to be able to transfer objects of IFlight across the interface as I want one operation contract that can transfer many types of flight... public IFlight GetFlightBooking() { AdhocFlight af = new AdhocFlight(); return af; } ... should work I think? However I get the error: "The server did not provide a meaningful reply; this might be caused by a contract mismatch, a premature session shutdown or an internal server error." Any ideas would be appreciated.

• Clojure agents consuming from a queue

  I'm trying to figure out the best way to use agents to consume items from a Message Queue (Amazon SQS). Right now I have a function (process-queue-item) that grabs an items from the queue, and processes it. I want to process these items concurrently, but I can't wrap my head around how to control the agents. Basically I want to keep all of the agents busy as much as possible without pulling to many items from the Queue and developing a backlog (I'll have this running on a couple of machines, so items need to be left in the queue until they are really needed). Can anyone give me some pointers on improving my implementation? • Getting SSL to work with Apache/Passenger on OSX

  I use apache/passenger on my development machine, but need to add SSL support (something which isn't exposed through the control panel). I've done this before in production, but for some reason I can't seem to get it work on OSX. The steps I've followed so far are from a default apache osx install: Install passenger and passenger preference pane. Add my rails app (this works) Create my ca.key, server.crt and server.key as detailed on the apple website. At this point I need to start editing the apache configs, so I added: # Apache knows to listen on port 443 for ssl requests. • DirectShow Filter I wrote dies after 10-24 seconds in Skype video call

  I've written a DirectShow push filter for use with Skype using Delphi Pro 6 and the DSPACK DirectShow library. In preview mode, when you test a video input device in the Skype client Video Settings window, my filter works flawlessly. I can leave it up and running for many minutes without an error. However when I start a video call after 10 to 24 seconds, never longer, the video feed freezes. The call continues fine with the call duration counter clicking away the seconds, but the video feed is dead, stuck on whatever frame the freeze happened (although after a long while it turns black which I believe means Skype has given up on the filter). I tried attaching to the process from my debugger with a breakpoint literally set on every method call and none of them are hit once the freeze takes place. It's as if the thread that makes the DirectShow FillBuffer() call to my filter on behalf of Skype is dead or has been shutdown. I can't trace my filter in the debugger because during a Skype call I get weird int 1 and int 3 debugger hard interrupt calls when a Skype video call is in progress. This behavior happens even with my standard web cam input device selected and my DirectShow filter completely unregistered as a ActiveX server. I suspect it might be some "anti-debugging" code since it doesn't happen in video input preview mode. Either way, that is why I had to attach to the process after the fact to see if my FillBuffer() called was still being called and instead discovered that appears to be dead. Note, my plain vanilla USB web cam's DirectShow filter does not exhibit the freezing behavior and works fine for many minutes. There's something about my filter that Skype doesn't like. I've tried Sleep() statements of varying intervals, no Sleep statements, doing virtually nothing in the FillBuffer() call. Nothing helps. If anyone has any ideas on what might be the culprit here, I'd like to know. Thanks, Robert

• How to terminate all [grand]child processes using C# on WXP (and newer MSWindows)

  Question: How can I determine all processes in the child's Process Tree to kill them? I have an application, written in C# that will: Get a set of data from the server, Spawn a 3rd party utility to process the data, then Return the results to the server. This is working fine. But since a run consumes a lot of CPU and may take as long as an hour, I want to add the ability to have my app terminate its child processes. Some issues that make the simple solutions I've found elsewhere are: My app's child process "A" (InstallAnywhere EXE I think) spawns the real processing app "B" (a java.exe), which in turns spawns more children "C1".."Cn" (most of which are also written in Java). There will likely be multiple copies of my application (and hence, multiple sets of its children) running on the same machine. The child process is not in my control so there might be some "D" processes in the future. My application must run on 32-bit and 64-bit versions of MSWindows. On the plus side there is no issue of data loss, a "clean" shutdown doesn't matter as long as the processes end fairly quickly.

Does AND logic search on the search keywords (2 in this example - "Democracy" and "Dictatorship"). Returns only those tutors for which both the keywords are present in the union of the two sets - tutors details and details of all the packs created by a tutor. To make things clear - Suppose a Tutor name "Sandeepan Nath" has created a pack "My first pack", then:- Searching "Sandeepan Nath" returns Sandeepan Nath. Searching "Sandeepan first" returns Sandeepan Nath. Searching "Sandeepan second" does not return Sandeepan Nath. ====================================================================================== The problem The results returned by the above query are correct (AND logic working as per expectation), but the time taken by the query on heavily loaded databases is like 25 seconds as against normal query timings of the order of 0.005 - 0.0002 seconds, which makes it totally unusable. It is possible that some of the delay is being caused because all the possible fields have not yet been indexed, but I would appreciate a better query as a solution, optimized as much as possible, displaying the same results ========================================================================================== How tags work in this system? In my case this is the only hard and fast way of doing it becoz I have a rules engine that actually updates the values in the HashMap after several computations. Now here is my question - For each group having the same eventId, I need to update the records so that they have wider fromDate to toDate. Meaning, if you consider the last two rows they have same actionId = 1234 and same eventId = 11. Now we can to pick the least fromDate from those 2 records which is Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 and farther toDate which is Wed Mar 31 10:54:12 and update those 2 record's fromDate and toDate to Wed Mar 17 10:54:12 and Wed Mar 31 10:54:12 respectively. • Managing resource closure in a servlet container

  I'm using Tomcat as a servlet container, and have many WARs deployed. Many of the WARs share common base classes, which are replicated in each context due to the different classloaders, etc. How can I ensure resource cleanup on context destruction, without hooking each and every web.xml file to add context listeners? Ideally, I'd like something along the lines of class MyResourceHolder implements SomeListenerInterface { private SomeResource resource; { SomeContextThingie.registerDestructionListener(this); } public void onDestroy() { resource.close(); } } I could put something in each web.xml, but since there are potentially many WARs and only ones that actually initialize the resource need to clean it up, it seems more natural to register for cleanup when the resource is initialized rather than duplicating a lot of XML configuration and then maybe cleaning up. (In this particular case, I'm initiating an orderly shutdown of a SQL connection pool. But I see this being useful in many other situations as well...) I'm sure there's some blisteringly obvious solution out there, but my Google-fu is failing me right now. Thanks!

When my callback function is called (waveIn) when the buffer is full, the hdr structure passed back in wavehdr is obviously corrupted. I am clearly concerned about the order of the fields in the view. I do not know if Visual Studio .NET cares about actual memory order when displaying the record in the "local"-view, but they are obviously not displayed in the order I speciefied in the struct. Then theres no data pointer and the bufferLength field is far to high. Interestingly the bytesRecorded field is exactly 64000 - bufferLength and bytesRecorded I'd expect both to be 64000 though. I do not know what exactly is going wrong, maybe someone can help me out on this. I'm an absolute noob to managed code programming and marshalling so please don't be too harsh to me for all the stupid things I've propably done. It's like trying to learn how to swim with your hands tied on your back. Some things I tried (to no effect): .NET compact framework does not seem to support the Pack = 2^x directive in [StructLayout]. I tried [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Explicit)] and used 4 bytes and 8 bytes alignment. 4 bytes alignmentgave me the same result as the above code and 8 bytes alignment only made things worse - but that's what I expected. Interestingly if I move the code from setupBuffer into the setupWaveIn and do not declare the GCHandle in the context of the class but in a local context of setupWaveIn the struct returned by the callback function does not seem to be corrupted. I am not sure however why this is the case and how I can use this knowledge to fix my code. I see that some parts, properties & visualization rules in the XAML are just copies from the original Silverlight component's style, i.e. BackgroundGradient, BackgroundRectangle, VisualStateManager... They must be there in order to support default behaviors or effects but... does anyone know how to remove them, but keep all the default behaviors/effects? Please be specific because I'm just getting start with C# & Silverlight. Thanks.

• Multiple, Simultaneous Factories and Protocols in Twisted: Same Service, Different Ports

  Greetings, Forum. I'm working on a program in Python that uses Twisted to manage networking. The basis of this program is a TCP service that is to listen for connections on multiple ports. However, instead of using one Twisted factory to handle a protocol object for each port, I am trying to use a separate factory for each port. The reason for this is to force a separation among the groups of clients connecting to the different ports. Unfortunately, it appears that this architecture isn't quite working: clients that connect to one port appear to be available among all the factories (e.g., the protocol class used by each factory includes a 'self.factory.clients.append (self)' statement...instead of adding a given client to just the factory for a particular port, the client is added to all factories), and whenever I shutdown service on one port the listeners on all ports also stop. I've been working with Twisted for a short while, and fear I simply don't fully understand how its factory classes are managed. My question is: is it simply not possible to have multiple, simultaneous instances of the same factory and same protocol in use across different ports (without these instances stepping on each other's toes)?

• Ruby script/console and Ruby script/server using two different DBs?

  Has anyone seen where script/console and script/server load two different databases (though both report using the same)? I then run my standard code for entering a form - no problems. Further, upon further inspection, it's using the production database, but I can't figure out why. Any thoughts here? All consoles have been closed and reopened. • Is "Server not found" error related to Activclient?

  Users are getting sporadic "Server not found" errors after idling in the browser. We have a HTTPS web application (Apache/Tomcat) using NSS for authentication on the server. The error occurs when a user opens the application and later lets it sit idle/untouched for 15 minutes. When they try to access the application they can get a "Server not found" error. Users use CAC cards with ActivClient software and our web application uses the certificates for authentication and authorization. We have been able to recreate the problem but have been unable to diagnose it. In recreating the problem the server is getting a series of "Unable to find the certificate or key necessary for authentication" errors in the NSS log associated with the browser error. These erros don't occur until the user tries to access the idle application. When the application is idle for 15 minutes the PIN is not requested yet the PIN Cache timeout in ActivClient is set at 15 minutes. All our server side timeout parameters are set to hours not minutes. IE 6 is our browser and NSS is using TLS. We have tried modifying "SetEnvIf User-Agent ".MSIE." ssl-unclean-shutdown" with no improvement. I understand that the PIN cache timeout and SSL session don't have a 1:1 relationship but the timing is suspicious. Can't find anything in the windows error logs that indicates a problem (security logs are not accessible to us). Any suggestions as to how to identify the cause of the problem would be appreciated.

• Strange EListError occurance (when accessing variable-defined index)

  Hi, I have a TList which stores some objects. Now I have a function which does some operations on that list: function SomeFunct(const AIndex: integer): IInterface begin if (AIndex > -1) and (AIndex < fMgr.Windows.Count ) then begin if (fMgr.Windows[AIndex] <> nil) then begin if not Supports(TForm(fMgr.Windows[AIndex]), IMyFormInterface, result) then result:= nil; end; end else result:= nil; end; now, what is really strange is that accessing fMgr.Windows with any proper index causes EListError... However if i hard-code it (in example, replace AIndex with value 0 or 1) it works fine. I tried debugging it, the function gets called twice, with arguments 0 and 1 (as supposed). while AIndex = 0, evaluating fMgr.Windows[AIndex] results in EListError at $someAddress, while evaluating fMgr.Windws[0] instead - returns proper results ... what is even more strange, even though there is an EListError, the function returns proper data ... and doesn't show anything. Just info on two EListError memory leaks on shutdown (using FastMM) any ideas what could be wrong?! Thanks in advance michal

• Help with java executors: wait for task termination.

  I need to submit a number of task and then wait for them until all results are available. Each of them adds a String to a Vector (that is synchronized by default). Then I need to start a new task for each result in the Vector but I need to do this only when all the previous tasks have stopped doing their job. I want to use Java Executor, in particular I tried using Executors.newFixedThreadPool(100) in order to use a fixed number of thread (I have a variable number of task that can be 10 or 500) but I'm new with executors and I don't know how to wait for task termination. This is something like a pseudocode of what my program needs to do: EecutorService e = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(100); while(true){ /*do something*/ for(...){ <start task> } <wait for all task termination> for each String in result{ <start task> } <wait for all task termination> } I can't do a e.shutdown because I'm in a while(true) and I need to reuse the executorService... Can you help me? Can you suggest me a guide/book about java executors??

• Winsock tcp/ip Socket listening but connection refused, race condition?

  Hello folks. This involves two automated unit tests which each start up a tcp/ip server that creates a non-blocking socket then bind()s and listen()s in a loop on select() for a client that connects and downloads some data. The catch is that they work perfectly when run separately but when run as a test suite, the second test client will fail to connect with WSACONNREFUSED... UNLESS there is a Thread.Sleep() of several seconds between them??!!! Interestingly, there is retry loop every 1 second for connecting after any failure. So the second test loops for a while until timeout after 10 minutes. During that time, netstat -na shows the correct port number is in the LISTEN state for the server socket. So if it is in the listen state? Why won't it accept the connection? In the code, there are log messages that show the select NEVER even gets a socket ready to read (which means ready to accept a connection when it applies to a listening socket). Obviously the problem must be related to some race condition between finishing one test which means close() and shutdown() on each end of the socket, and the start up of the next. This wouldn't be so bad if the retry logic allowed it to connect eventually after a couple of seconds. However it seems to get "gummed up" and won't even retry. However, for some strange reason the listening socket SAYS it's in the LISTEN state even through keeps refusing connections. So that means it's the Windoze O/S which is actually catching the SYN packet and returning a RST packet (which means "Connection Refused"). The only other time I ever saw this error was when the code had a problem that caused hundreds of sockets to get stuck in TIME_WAIT state. But that's not the case here. netstat shows only about a dozen sockets with only 1 or 2 in TIME_WAIT at any given moment. Please help.
