  • Php wrapper class for XML

    I'm working on a new class to wrap XML handling. I want my class to use simplexml if it's installed, and the built in XML functions if it's not. Can anyone give me some suggestions on a skeleton class to do this? It seems "wrong" to litter each method with a bunch of if statements, and that also seems like it would make it nearly impossible to correctly test. Any upfront suggestions would be great! EDIT: I'm talking about these built-in xml functions.

  • Multiple classes in body tag, multi-dimensional css structure or blueprint for insanity?

    This question is about an approach to css structuring, and so is more discussion oriented. I'm working with some outsourced css where the body tags have multiple classes assigned, up to half a dozen. (To make things a little worse, none of the css selectors include an html tag which is making it confusing to analyze the css.) These body classes are then used to modify classed or id'd widgets within. It seems like this approach is like adding an additional dimension to the css, perhaps in some attempt to create a structured css approach. Documentation might have helped, had we been provided any. This differs from my approach where widgets are styled primarily via id'd divs, perhaps extracting the more generic elements into a class, i.e. div#MyWidget.widgets. Any ideas on whether such an approach is maintainable, especially considering I am dealing with websites with thousands of pages including tons of legacy stuff, all done by different people with different skill levels?     I have a parent class which is templated, and a child class which implements it. template< typename T1, typename T2> class ParentClass{ . . . }; class ChildClass : public ParentClass<MyT1, MyT2> { . . . }; And I want to have a pointer which I can use polymorphically: ParentClass<T1, T2>* ptr; ptr = static_cast<ParentClass<MyT1, MyT2>* >(new ChildClass() ); No matter how I cast it, I always get a C2664 which has the same expression: error C2664: cannot convert parameter 1 from 'ParentClass< T1,T2 *' to 'ParentClass< T1,T2 *' Is it not possible to cast pointer types between inherited types if the parent is templated, even if the types specified in the templates are the same?

  • Fixed background on iPhone Safari

    iPhone Safari seems to have some sort of problem whereby a page with css like this: body { background: #000 url(fixedimage.png) fixed repeat-x; } ...doesn't actually lead to a fixed image. It scrolls as the user scrolls. I've seen plenty of people kvetching about this on the internets, but no real solution. Does anyone have any ideas?

I tried using the var keyword, but it didn't seem to work. What do I do in order to access the other class "foo" inside all methods of bar?

  • Different return value of an overridden class

    I have a simple but confusing question here. Is it legal to have a different return value type for overridden methods than the abstact ones defined in the base class?? I did that and the compiler didn't complain... could someone please explain? class MyBaseClass { int value; public: virtual int getValue() = 0; }; class MyClass : public MyBaseClass { double value; public: virtual double getValue(); // here!!! return is double, not int }; double MyClass::getValue() { return this->value; } The compiler totally accepted something similar (MSVC und MinGW)... could anyone please exaplain to what extent this is legal?

  • C# class in a directory without having the directory name in its namespace

    Hi ! If you add a directory in your Visual Studio project and you add a class inside it, the namespace will respect the whole path the directory inclusive. But sometimes, I prefer having the class in the main project namespace, although it lies in a directory structure, just because I don't want to have mess in my code. So often happens that I rewrite the Myproject.MyDirectory namespace to be Myproject only. Is it OK in your opinion? Or does any convention say that every class inside the directory must have it included in the namespace ? Thanks

    Hi, I'd like to reload a table view which is in another class called "WriteIt_MobileAppDelegate" from one of my other classes which is called "Properties". I've tried to do this via the NSNotificationCenter class - the log gets called but the table is never updated.   • Python: Hack to call a method on an object that isn't of its class

    Assume you define a class, which has a method which does some complicated processing: class A(object): def my_method(self): # Some complicated processing is done here return self And now you want to use that method on some object from another class entirely. Like, you want to do A.my_method(7). This is what you'd get: TypeError: unbound method my_method() must be called with A instance as first argument (got int instance instead). Now, is there any possibility to hack things so you could call that method on 7? I'd want to avoid moving the function or rewriting it. (Note that the method's logic does depend on self.) One note: I know that some people will want to say, "You're doing it wrong! You're abusing Python! You shouldn't do it!" So yes, I know, this is a terrible terrible thing I want to do. I'm asking if someone knows how to do it, not how to preach to me that I shouldn't do it.

  • Floating images with multiple sizes in CSS

    I'm wanting to be able to create a banner of floating images based on what are uploaded via users. The tool needs to have images of 50x50 and 100x100. At the moment, I just want to randomly display the images and tried to apply float:left. However, as you can see below - it leaves gaps. Is there an easy way to do this without programatically positioning the images?   • Trouble Copying custom class initialization

    I have a custom class of type NSObject that contains a single NSMutableArray. This class is called Mutable2DArray and is designed to emulate a 2 dimensional array of type NSMutableArray. There is a custom init method - (id)initWithX:(int)x Y:(int)y that asks for the dimensions for the array and allocates the required arrays within the only array the class owns. My issue is when I try to copy an instance of Mutable2DArray I get an error saying the copyWithZone is an unrecognized selector. I thought copy was a base method of NSObject so I'm confused why I cant create a copy of the instance like this: Mutable2DArray *Array1 = [[Mutable2DArray alloc] initWithX:10 Y:10]; Mutable2DArray *Array2 = [Array1 copy]; Am I missing something so obvious here?

    Is ADO.NET and ASP.NET a part of Base Class Library? The information given in wikipedia looks ambiguous to me. In the figure, it is shown as a separate block. What is the difference between Base Class Library(BCL) and Framework Class Library(FCL)? Is FCL as a part of .NET Framework? If so why is FCL not shown in the figure as part of .NET framework? Got confused!!

  • Problem with routes and mod-rewrite (if not absolute i don't get CSS, JS or images)

    hi there! i updated the code from my website to a 'better' veersion i think, it works fine but when i try to implement the friendly URL and load it, works, but with no CSS, Javascript or images, but if i corret the routes for the css to http://website/css/style.css (instead of ./css/style.css) it i do see the CSS properly loaded, any idea why? Example: http://keepyourlinks.com/link1.php?id=25 VS http://keepyourlinks.com/keep/25/series-yonkis (i updated the route of the CSS, but the Javascript is missing an the images asweell) I really would like not to have to correct al routes :(
