  I'm trying to set up a page that will allow users to download files from a shared drive (where the file is actually sent via the page). So far this is what I have. public partial class TestPage : System.Web.UI.Page { protected DirectoryInfo dir; protected FileInfo[] files; protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { dir = new DirectoryInfo(Server.MapPath(@"\\sharedDrive\Public")); files = dir.GetFiles(); } } The aspx page looks kind of like this: <% Response.Write(System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name); %> <ul> <% foreach (System.IO.FileInfo f in files) { Response.Write("<li>" + f.FullName + "</li>"); } %> </ul> When I remove the erroneous parts of the code, the page tells me that the Windows Identity I'm using is my user (which has access to the drive). I don't understand what the problem could be or what it's even complaining about.

• Moq: Unable to cast to interface

  Hello, earlier today I asked this question. So since moq creates it's own class from an interface I wasn't able to cast it to a different class. So it got me wondering what if I created a ICustomPrincipal and tried to cast to that. This is how my mocks look: var MockHttpContext = new Mock<HttpContextBase>(); var MockPrincipal = new Mock<ICustomPrincipal>(); MockHttpContext.SetupGet(h => h.User).Returns(MockPrincipal.Object); In the method I am trying to test the follow code gives the error(again): var user = (ICustomPrincipal)httpContext.User; The error is the following: Unable to cast object of type 'IPrincipalProxy4081807111564298854aabfc890edcc8' to type 'MyProject.Web.ICustomPrincipal'. I guess I still need some practice with interfaces and moq but shouldn't I be able to cast the class that moq created back to ICustomPrincipal? I know httpContext.User returns an IPrincipal so maybe something gets lost there? Well if anybody can help me I would appreciate that. • Display a Photo Gallery using Asp.Net and SQL

  I have recently added photos to my SQL database and have displayed them on an *.aspx page using Asp:Image. The ImageUrl for this control stored in a separate *.aspx page. It works great for profile pictures. I have a new issue at hand. I need each user to be able to have their own photo gallery page. I want the photos to be stored in the sql database. Storing the photos is not difficult. The issue is displaying the photos. I want the photos to be stored in a thumbnail grid fashion, when the user clicks on the photo, it should bring up the photo on a separate page. What is the best way to do this. Obviously it is not to use Asp:Image. I am curious if I should use a Gridview. If so, how do I do that and should their be a thumbnail size stored in the database for this? Once the picture is click on how does the other page look so that it displays the correct image. I would think it is not correct to send the photoId through the url. • Android Live Wallpaper: waitForCondition(ReallocateCondition)

  I've been developing a live wallpaper using GLWallpaperService, and have gotten good results overall. It runs rock-solid in the emulator and looks good. I've dealt with OpenGL many times before so have a solid command of how to do things... unfortunately I'm having a hell of a time getting this to actually be stable on the actual hardware. The basic symption occurs when you slide the physical keyboard on a Motorola Droid in and out a few times. This causes the wallpaper to get destroyed/recreated several times in quick succession -- which would be fine, as I have my assets clearing in onDestroy and reloading in onSurfaceChanged. The problem is after a few iterations of this, (four or five, maybe) the calls to onSurfaceChanged completely stop, and i get an endless string of this printed to the log: 04-02 00:53:18.088: WARN/SharedBufferStack(1032): waitForCondition(ReallocateCondition) timed out (identity=337, status=0). CPU may be pegged. trying again. Is there something I should be implementing here aside from the Android-typical onSurfaceCreated/onSurfaceChanged/onSurfaceDestroyed triumvirate? Browsing through the WallpaperService and WallpaperRenderer classes doesn't pop up anything obvious to me.

• Access denied when trying to read information about SharePoint groups

  I am trying to get the membership of a group in WSS 3.0. I am doing this in an elevated permissions block. Here is the code: SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate() { using (SPSite site = new SPSite(SPContext.Current.Site.ID)) { using (SPWeb rootWeb = site.RootWeb) { SPGroup gAdmins = rootWeb.SiteGroups["Admins"]; } } }); I get taken to the "access denied" SharePoint screen when I run this code. The group exists. The identity of the application pool for the web application is in the dbo role in the content database. The code works on my development server, but not on another server, which leads me to believe there is something wrong with the permissions or configuration on this server, maybe something in dcomcnfg? Here are some lines from the SharePoint log that seem to be related: PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x08000000, have 0x00000000 Unknown SPRequest error occurred. • Using the public ssh key from local machine to access two remote users [closed]

  I have an new Ubuntu (Hardy 8.04) server; it has two users, Alice and Bob. Alice is listed in sudoers. I appended my public ssh key (my local machine's public key local/Users/nick/.ssh/id_rsa.pub) to authorized_keys in remote_server/home/Alice/.ssh/authorized_keys, changed the permissions on Alice/.ssh/ to 700 and Alice/.ssh/authorized_keys to 600, and both the file and folder are owned my Alice. Then added I Alice to sshd_config (AllowUsers Alice). This works and I can login into Alice: ssh -v [email protected] ... debug1: Offering public key: /Users/nick/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Server accepts key: pkalg ssh-rsa blen 277 debug1: Authentication succeeded (publickey). debug1: channel 0: new [client-session] debug1: Entering interactive session. Last login: Mon Mar 15 09:51:01 2010 from 123.456.789.00 I then copied the authorized_keys file remote_server/home/Alice/.ssh/authorized_keys to remote_server/home/Bob/.shh/authorized_keys and changed the permissions and ownership and added Bob to AllowUsers in sshd_config (AllowUsers Alice Bob). • SQL Server database with clustered GUID PKs - switch clustered index or switch to sequential (comb)

  We have a database in which all the PKs are GUIDs, and most of the PKs are also the clustered index for the table. We know that this is bad (due to the random nature of GUIDs). So, it seems there are basically two options here (short of throwing out GUIDs as PKs altogether, which we cannot do (at least not at this time)). We could change the GUID generation algorithm to e.g. the one that NHibernate uses, as detailed in this post, or we could, for the tables that are under the heaviest use, change to a different clustered index, e.g. an IDENTITY column, and keep the "random" GUIDs as PKs. Is it possible to give any general recommendations in such a scenario? The application in question has 500+ tables, the largest one presently at about 1,5 million rows, a few tables around 500 000 rows, and the rest significantly lower (most of them well below 10K). Furthermore, the application is installed at several customer sites already, so we have to take any possible negative effects for existing customer into consideration. Thanks!

• Configuration Error ASP.NET password format specified is invalid

  I am getting the above error in IIS 6.0 now when I browse my C# / SQL web application. This was built in VS 2008 and SS 2008 on a 32-bit XP OS. The application was working before I added Login controls to it. However, this is my first time configuring Login/password controls so I am probably missing something really basic. The Network Service account has SELECT, EXECUTE, INSERT, UPDATE access to this database. But one problem I see is that all of the tables in this database are empty except for aspnet_SchemaVersions, which just has 2 records (common and membership). Is this right? I added users and roles via ASP.NET Configuration wizard, and I believe I set this up correctly since I followed the Microsoft tutorial at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998347.aspx. One other problem I see from VS is after adding content to my Page_Load on my initial login Password.aspx.cs file, I'm getting an invalid cast problem below. I googled this problem also but the solutions I saw confused me even more. • Storing a digital signature for bookings on a web based system

  I have a web based bookings system built for a UK higher education client to allow students to sign out equipment (laptops, camera's etc). It's been in use successfully for a couple of years, in the current workflow equipment is collected and the booking is printed, signed by the student and kept until the equipment is returned. They are emailed a pdf copy of the booking and reminders if equipment is outstanding. Students can login and prebook equipment using their university LDAP credentials, the booking is then authorised by staff for later collection, but can also walk in and have equipment booked out by staff. They would like to remove the signed paper part of the process and replace this with some sort of digital signature. The suggestion was a graphics tablet but with a web based system this would require a local software package and in my view be impractical. My thought is that students would enter their LDAP username and password upon collection of the equipment, verifying their identity and effectively digitally signing the booking. My question is what would be best to store as a signature or whether to simply authenticate the user and use a boolean flag to indicate that this has been done could be deemed sufficient?

• Can't ssh to ec2 permission denied (publickey)

  I have existing instances running and I can connect to them fine. Even if I start a new instance from one of my saved ami's I can connect to it fine but any new public or community ami (I've tried 2 offical Ubuntu ami's and 1 Fedora quickstart ami) I get permission denied (publickey). The permissions are good on my key file. I've also tried creating a new keyfile. My ec2 firewall rules are good, I've also tried creating a new group. • Can the public ssh key from my local machine be used to access two different users on a remote serve

  I have an new ubuntu (hardy 8.04) server, it has two users, User1 and User2. User1 is listed in sudoers. I appended my public ssh key (my local machine's public key local/Users/nick/.ssh/id_rsa.pub) to authorized_keys in remote_server/home/user1/.ssh/authorized_keys, changed the permissions on user1/.ssh/ to 700 and user1/.ssh/authorized_keys to 600 and both file and folder are owned my User1. Then added I User1 to sshd_config (AllowUsers User1). This works and I can login into User1 debug1: Offering public key: /Users/nick/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Server accepts key: pkalg ssh-rsa blen 277 debug1: Authentication succeeded (publickey). debug1: channel 0: new [client-session] debug1: Entering interactive session. • Amazon EC2 RSA key stopped authenticating - Permission denied (publickey)

  Authenticating to our Ubuntu EC2 instance worked fine until a little while ago. All of a sudden, the key is being rejected. When we create a new instance with the keypair, we're able to connect to the instance perfectly, so it appears to be an issue with the existing instance. Port 22 is open. • MS SQL Database with clustered GUID PKs - switch clustered index or switch to sequential (comb) GUID

  We have a database in which all the PKs are GUIDs, and most of the PKs are also the clustered index for the table. We know that this is bad (due to the random nature of GUIDs). So, it seems there are basically two options here (short of throwing out GUIDs as PKs altogether, which we cannot do (at least not at this time)). We could change the GUID generation algorithm to e.g. the one that NHibernate uses, as detailed in this post, or we could, for the tables that are under the heaviest use, change to a different clustered index, e.g. an IDENTITY column, and keep the "random" GUIDs as PKs. Is it possible to give any general recommendations in such a scenario? The application in question has 500+ tables, the largest one presently at about 1,5 million rows, a few tables around 500 000 rows, and the rest significantly lower (most of them well below 10K). Furthermore, the application is installed at several customer sites already, so we have to take any possible negative effects for existing customer into consideration. Thanks!

• Linq to SQL not inserting data onto the DB

  Hello! I have a little / weird behaviour here and Im looking over internet and SO and I didn't find a response. I have to admit that this is my first time using databases, I know how to use them with SQL but never used it actually. Anyway, I have a problem with my app inserting data, I just created a very simple project for testing that and no solution yet. I have an example database with Sql Server Id - int (identity primary key) Name - nchar(10) (not null) The table is called "Person", simple as pie. It show Jesus in the console. But if you see the table data, there is no data, just empty. I comment the object creation and insertion and the foreach doesn't print a thing (normal, there is no data in the database) The weird thing is that I created a row in the database manually and the Id was 2 and no 1 (Was the linq really playing with the database but it didn't create the row?) I am trying to establish upper / lower bound in my stored procedure below and am having some problems at the end (I am getting no results where, without the temp table inner join i get the expected results). • XNA Reach profile with VMWare - Vertex Buffers not working?

  Running XNA app, using Reach profile, in VMWare Fusion host OS Mac OSX, VM is Windows XP SP 3 (my dual-boot OS). Running on MacBook Pro w/NVidia 320M graphics card When I am booted in to XP natively, my code works. The code is drawing cubes that are set up using vertex buffers When another friend runs this same code on Windows 7, it also works for him just fine When I am running my code in the VM, it doesn't work. I have billboarding sprites running in a shader program and this part displays fine. I get no crashing or errors, the geometry just doesn't appear. I tried Debug and Release. This is very basic operation so I'm thinking VMWare isn't the problem, but it's my code....
