• WCF REST Compression

  I have a REST service that returns a large chunk of XML, about 150k worth. e.g. http://xmlservice.com/services/RestService.svc/GetLargeXML Therefore I want to compress the response from the server, as GZIP should reduce this to something much smaller. Having searched everywhere I cannot for the life of me find an example of how to perform compression for WCF REST services. Help!! NOTE: My service is hosted by a third party and I CANNOT do this via IIS as it is not supported by them.

• Button layed out using layout_toLeftOf in a RelativeLayout does not show up

  Hello all, I am trying to layout a Button to the left of a TextView that is centered on the screen. My layout looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:gravity="center"> <TextView android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="foo" android:id="@+id/center" /> <Button android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Left button" android:layout_toLeftOf="@id/center" /> </RelativeLayout> Unfortunately, the button just does not appear. I get the following result: As you see, the button doesn't show up. It works if I use layout_toRightOf, then the button appears to the right of the TextView, just as expected. Any ideas what I am doing wrong here?

  Hi, On my quest to learn NHibernate I have reached the next hurdle; how should I go about integrating it with StructureMap? Although code examples are very welcome, I'm more interested in the general procedure. What I was planning on doing was... Use Fluent NHibernate to create my class mappings for use in NHibs Configuration Implement ISession and ISessionFactory Bootstrap an instance of my ISessionFactory into StructureMap as a singleton Register ISession with StructureMap, with per-HttpRequest caching However, don't I need to call various tidy-up methods on my session instance at the end of the HttpRequest (because thats the end of its life)? If i do the tidy-up in Dispose(), will structuremap take care of this for me? If not, what am I supposed to do? Thanks Andrew

• CakePHP sending multiple lines of same cookie information in response header. why??

  Hi all, I am having this problem with one of my cakePHP applications. My application displays a big html table on the page. I noticed that when the table goes beyond a certain size limit, IE cannot display that page. While trying to figure out why this happens, I noticed that my html response header contains a HUGE number of lines repeating the same thing. • Delphi connection to OpenEdge Progress-4GL Database

  Folks: Has anyone had success connecting to a Progress-4GL database with Delphi?   I've been unable to establish any connection with the ODBC driver provided by the vendor (Progress OpenEdge 10.1C Driver). I've entered (what I believe are) the right parameters, but keep on getting an error whenever I test the connection: "[DataDirect][ODBC Progress OpenEdge Wire Protocol driver] Socket closed." Background: I've been tasked to re-design a 13-year-old application, but the original programmer did not provide any supporting documents, passwords, configuration setup, etc. (I'm on my own)!   To make things worse, online help and useful documentation about Progress is scarce (I had never heard about this database until now). I want to examine the existing data, maybe create an ERD to familiarize myself with the schema, but I can't even access the data outside of the OpenEdge code. Any help is appreciated!

• Silverlight 4 HttpWebRequest user agent string is null

  The problem I have a page with a silverlight object. It attempts to retrieve XML from the page. But I am struggling with a security exception. I have this code working brilliantly in WPF. When using a website hosting a silverlight application with the same code, the user agent string of the HttpRequest object is null (and seemingly cannot be set). In fact there is no header information at all - this causes a security exception when attempting to make my asynchronous call. The question Why is the user-agent string (and header information) null in my silverlight 4 application when making an asynchronous call using HttpWebRequest? Thanks in advance!

I've ensured the following Edit and Continue is enabled under ToolsOptionsDebuggingEdit and Continue My solution platform is set to x86 My solution configuration is set to Debug All my projects are building for Debug and x86 For all projects under ProjectsPropertiesBuild the Optimize code is unchecked When I hit a break point and try to edit I and confronted with the following message. This is happening for me for all projects that I create whether they are WPF/Win Forms/VB.NET/C#/.NET 4/.NET 3. Any ideas?

On my dev machine (win 7 Ent) all works fine, if deployed on a Win 2k3 (tried 2 different vm and one phisical machine) I got the following error.. anyone can help? When I run this client application on my development PC with exactly the same config, with the exception that I remove proxyAddress="10.20.30.40:8080" from the bindings the operation works without problems. Now I really don't know what specifying a proxy server address might have to do with absolute or relative URIs. The use of the proxy server or not is the only difference I can see when running the client on the production or on the development machine. • Disable eclipselink caching and query caching - not working?

  I am using eclipselink JPA with a database which is also being updated externally to my application. For that reason there are tables I want to query every few seconds. I can't get this to work even when I try to disable the cache and query cache. Now I can access it through my browser using the following url: http://localhost:8080/MyDynamicWebApp Now I want to change the access url to http://localhost:8080/app I changed the context root from the project properties | Web Project Settings | Context Root But it is not working. The web app still has the access url as earlier. I have re-deployed the application on tomcat, re-started the tomcat and have done everything that should be done but the access url is the same as earlier. I found that there were no server.xml file attached with the WARfile. The how the tomcat is determining that the context root of my web app is /MyDynamicWebApp and is allowing me to access the application through that url

• getting an embedded resource in a single dll made up of multiple class libraries

  my solution has multiple projects and in one of them I have the code to get the embedded resource (an xml file) from another project. All this works fine when all the projects are seperate. However when all the class libraries are embedded into a single dll, the code to get the resource file does not work i.e. it cannot get the emebedded resource. I was wondering if the references to the emebedded resource get mixed up when they are combined together in a single dll?? I use the method Assembly.GetCallingAssembly().GetManifestResourceStream("namespace..filename");

  First of all, I wrote a simple php page, that picks up some variables from the POST parameters such as a query and a authentication string, and returns the result as xml. I intend to call this page with the WebClient class from a Silverlight application. I'm using POST because we are querying the database with any valid sql statement, not only select statements. The WebClient class uses the UploadDataAsync method to post to a http server, however it requires the post parameters be passed as a NameValueCollection. This class is missing in the Silverlight runtime. How do I proceed???

• Using truncate table alongside Hibernate?

  Is it OK to truncate tables while at the same time using Hibernate to insert data? We parse a big XML file with many relationships into Hibernate POJO's and persist to the DB. We are now planning on purging existing data at certain points in time by truncating the tables. Is this OK? It seems to work fine. We don't use Hibernate's second level cache. One thing I did notice, which is fine, is that when inserting we generate primary keys using Hibernate's @GeneratedValue where Hibernate just uses a key value one greater than the highest value in the table - and even though we are truncating the tables, Hibernate remembers the prior value and uses prior value + 1 as opposed to starting over at 1. This is fine, just unexpected. Note that the reason we do truncate as opposed to calling delete() on the Hibernate POJO's is for speed. We have gazillions of rows of data, and truncate is just so much faster.

  I am trying to learn rails3. I tried folowing the installation guide from guides.rails.info, I installed sudo gem install rake rack-test rack-mount erubis mail sudo gem install tzinfo builder i18n memcache-client sudo gem install text-format thor And rails 3 via sudo gem install rails --pre Now I create a new app rails abc And try rake db:create Which fails with Could not find gem 'sqlite3-ruby (>= 0, runtime)' in any of the sources. So I try installing sqlite3-ruby sudo gem install sqlite3-ruby Which fails with Could not create Makefile due to some reason, probably lack of necessary libraries and/or headers. Check the mkmf.log file for more details. You may need configuration options. So I install it via apt-get sudo aptitude install libsqlite3-ruby1.8. And still get same error on rake db:create.

  Hello, I have a message box pop up when a certain operation is being executed sort of "wait..." window and I want to have a "loading" *.gif animation there to lighten up the mood :) Anyways I can't seem to figure out how to make this work. • SharpSVN and C# Problem

  When trying to add SharpSVN to my C# project, compiling with SharpSVN related calls gives me this error: FileLoadException was Unhandled Mixed mode assembly is built against version 'v2.0.50727' of the runtime and cannot be loaded in the 4.0 runtime without additional configuration information. What I did was add the References from the downloaded SharpSVN zip file and added the using SharpSvn; When I compile that it works fine, but when I add: string targetPath = "https://bobl/svn/ConsoleApplication1"; SvnTarget target; SvnTarget.TryParse(targetPath, out target); It breaks with that error. I've searched this error and have had no luck in finding a solution.

• How get Tomahawk functionality with JSF 2.0 (Glassfish V3)

  I've started to upgrade an existing application written with JSF 1.1 and MyFaces Tomahawk 1.1 to JSF 2.0 to get facelets etc. I've now run into the snag that apparently Tomahawk is not JSF 2.0 compatible as it expects the stand-alone version of Facelets instead of the built-in to JSF 2.0 with the following error: org.apache.catalina.LifecycleException: com.sun.faces.config.ConfigurationException: CONFIGURATION FAILED! com.sun.facelets.tag.jsf.ComponentHandler (it appears to be placed in javax.faces.view.facelets now). I have looked around and there doesn't seem to be a JSF 2.0 facelet compatible version of Tomahawk. I only believe I need t:updateActionListener (inside t:dataTable) and the rowSpan facility of t:panelGroup. Is all this functionality available in JSF 2.0 directly, or must I locate a new library giving this? Any suggestions?
