  • Loading images to UIScrollview crashes

    - by Icky
    Hello All. I have a Navigationcontroller pushing a UIViewController with a scrollview inside. Within the scrollview I download a certain number of images around 20 (sometimes more) each sized around 150 KB. All these images are added to the scrollview so that their origin is x +imageSize and the following is sorted right to the one before. All in all I think its a lot of data (3-4 MB). On an I pod Touch this sometimes crashes, the IPhone can handle it once, if it has to load the data again (some other images) , it crashes too. I guess its a memory issue but within my code, I download the image, save it to a file on the phone as NSData, read it again from file and add it to a UIImageview which I release. So I have freed the memory I allocated, nevertheless it still crashes. Can anyone help me out? Since Im new to this, I dont know the best way to handle the Images in a scrollview. Besides I create the controller at start from nib, which means I dont have to release it, since I dont use alloc - right? Code: In my rootviewcontroller I do: -(void) showImages { [[self naviController] pushViewController:imagesViewController animated:YES]; [imagesViewController viewWillAppear:YES]; } Then in my Controller handling the scroll View, this is the method to load the images: - (void) loadOldImageData { for (int i = 0; i < 40 ; i++) { NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *filePath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"img%d.jpg", i]]; NSData *myImg = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:filePath]; UIImage *im = [UIImage imageWithData:myImg]; if([im isKindOfClass:[UIImage class]]) { NSLog(@"IM EXISTS"); UIImageView *imgView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:im]; CGRect frame = CGRectMake(i*320, 0, 320, 416); imgView.frame = frame; [myScrollView addSubview:imgView]; [imgView release]; //NSLog(@"Adding img %d", i); numberImages = i; NSLog(@"setting numberofimages to %d", numberImages); //NSLog(@"scroll subviews %d", [myScrollView.subviews count]); } } myScrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(320 * (numberImages + 1), 416); }

  • how to check if internal storage file has any data

  • Can get members, but not count of NSMutableArray

    - by Curyous
I'm filling an NSMutableArray from a CoreData call. I can get the first object, but when I try to get the count, the app crashes with Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. How can I get the count? Here's the relevant code - I've put a comment on the line where it crashes. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; managedObjectContext = [[MySingleton sharedInstance] managedObjectContext]; if (managedObjectContext != nil) { charactersRequest = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; charactersEntity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Character" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [charactersEntity retain]; [charactersRequest setEntity:charactersEntity]; [charactersRequest retain]; NSError *error; characters = [[managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:charactersRequest error:&error] mutableCopy]; if (characters == nil) { NSLog(@"Did not get results for characters: %@", error.localizedDescription); } else { [characters retain]; NSLog(@"Found some character(s)."); Character* character = (Character *)[characters objectAtIndex:0]; NSLog(@"Name of first one: %@", character.name); NSLog(@"Found %@ character(s).", characters.count); // Crashes on this line with - Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. } } } And previous declarations from the header file: @interface CrowdViewController : UITableViewController { NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; NSFetchRequest *charactersRequest; NSEntityDescription *charactersEntity; NSMutableArray *characters; } I'm a bit perplexed and would really appreciate finding out what is going on.

  • iPhone crashing when presenting modal view controller

    - by Michael Waterfall
    I'm trying to display a modal view straight after another view has been presented modally (the second is a loading view that appears). - (void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewDidAppear:animated]; // Show load LoadViewController *loader = [[LoadViewController alloc] init]; [self presentModalViewController: loader animated:NO]; [loader release]; } But when I do this I get a "Program received signal: "EXC_BAD_ACCESS"." error. The stack trace is: 0 0x30b43234 in -[UIWindowController transitionViewDidComplete:fromView:toView:] 1 0x3095828e in -[UITransitionView notifyDidCompleteTransition:] 2 0x3091af0d in -[UIViewAnimationState sendDelegateAnimationDidStop:finished:] 3 0x3091ad7c in -[UIViewAnimationState animationDidStop:finished:] 4 0x0051e331 in run_animation_callbacks 5 0x0051e109 in CA::timer_callback 6 0x302454a0 in CFRunLoopRunSpecific 7 0x30244628 in CFRunLoopRunInMode 8 0x32044c31 in GSEventRunModal 9 0x32044cf6 in GSEventRun 10 0x309021ee in UIApplicationMain 11 0x00002154 in main at main.m:14 Any ideas? I'm totally stumped! The loading view is empty so there's definitely nothing going on in there that's causing the error. Is it something to do with launching 2 views modally in the same event loop or something? Thanks, Mike Edit: Very strange... I have modified it slightly so that the loading view is shown after a tiny delay, and this works fine! So it appears to be something within the same event loop! - (void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewDidAppear:animated]; // Show load [self performSelector:@selector(doit) withObject:nil afterDelay:0.1]; } - (void)doit { [self presentModalViewController:loader animated:YES]; }

  • How to tell which thread(s) are producing all the garbage?

    - by Brad Hein
I have an app with about 15 threads. Most do mundane tasks and sleep most of their lives. Others collect information and cache it in hashmaps. The hashmaps grow to a moderate size and level out. The number of keys and size of value remains constant, but the contents of the values changes (at 33 keys per second average). When I start my app, I notice the garbage collection interval goes from minutes to once per second, and the amount of garbage is 700k+ each time. In fact as I was writing this, it caused my phone to reboot with an error "Referencetable Overflow". Here's my question: Are there any tricks to identifying which threads are producing the garbage, or even finding out more about what garbage they are producing?

  • I need to debug my BrowserHelperObject (BHO) (in C++ with Visual Studio 2008) after a internet explo

    - by BHOdevelopper
Hi, here is the situation, i'm developping a Browser Helper Object (BHO) in C++ with Visual Studio 2008, and i learned that the memory wasn't managed the same way in Debug mode than in Release mode. So when i run my BHO in debug mode, internet explorer 8 works just fine and i got no erros at all, the browser stays alive forever, but as soon as i compile it in release mode, i got no errors, no message, nothing, but after 5 minutes i can see through the task manager that internet explorer instances are just eating memory and then the browser just stop responding every time. Please, I really need some hint on how to get a feedback on what could be the error. I heard that, often it was happening because of memory mismanagement. I need a software that just grab a memory dump or something when iexplorer crashes to help me find the problem. Any help is appreciated, I'll be looking for responses every single days, thank you.

  • Android App Crashes On Second Run

    - by user1091286
My app runs fine on first run. On the Menu I added two choices options and quit. options which set up a new intent who goes to a PreferenceActivity and quit which simply call: "android.os.Process.killProcess(android.os.Process.myPid());" On the second time I run my app (after I quit from inside the emulator) it crashes.. Ideas? the menu is called by the foolowing code: @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.menu , menu); return true; } - @Override public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) { // Set up a new intent between the updater service and the main screen Intent options = new Intent(this, OptionsScreenActivity.class); • How do you run your unit tests? Compiler flags? Static libraries?

    - by Christopher Gateley
I'm just getting started with TDD and am curious as to what approaches others take to run their tests. For reference, I am using the google testing framework, but I believe the question is applicable to most other testing frameworks and to languages other than C/C++. My general approach so far has been to do either one of three things: Write the majority of the application in a static library, then create two executables. One executable is the application itself, while the other is the test runner with all of the tests. Both link to the static library. Embed the testing code directly into the application itself, and enable or disable the testing code using compiler flags. This is probably the best approach I've used so far, but clutters up the code a bit. Embed the testing code directly into the application itself, and, given certain command-line switches either run the application itself or run the tests embedded in the application. None of these solutions are particularly elegant... How do you do it?

  • iPhone simulator app crashes when appending a string

    - by Franklyn Weber
Hi, I'm a complete novice, so I'm probably missing something really easy, but I can't get my string appending to work. I add the 3rd character to typedDigit & it crashes - the method is called fine and typedDigit will get to 2 characters long. I think everything is declared properly in the header file. Code is - -(IBAction)digitPressed:(UIButton *)sender { NSString *digit = [[sender titleLabel] text]; // in this case, "0" - "9" if (userIsInMiddleOfTyping) { // typedDigit is already at least 1 character long typedDigit = [typedDigit stringByAppendingString:digit]; } else { // first character of typedDigit typedDigit = digit; userIsInMiddleOfTyping = YES; } } Many thanks for any help!

  • How to proprely remove a flash object from a HTML page.

    - by Niklaos
Hi guys. I made a website using AJAX (with jquery) for the navigation. The pages of the site are sliding and I use remove() to destroy the old page. Every thing seems alright, but some times the browser crashes when he tries to remove the old page containing a Flash object. I suppose this is because Flash is still executing the Flash object. My question is simple. How do i remove this Flash's object for my page without having the browser crashing on my face ? Is there a way to stop the Flash execution before removing the object ? Thanks for your help.

  • Android app crashes on second run

    - by Nick
I have been working on my app and it runs on the simulator fine. I loaded it into my phone and now I have a problem. It runs fine when I first start it and also if I pick home and then restart it; however, if I use the back arrow and then restart it it crashes on that time, but will work out the next time I start it. I think it has to do with some kind of memory build up, but I verified onDestroy is being called, I figured that deletes everything my program created, right?

  • Large Table in iFrame crashes IE8

    - by Brian
I have a page with an iFrame whose source is an ashx page. The handler takes in 3 arguments through the query string and generates a text/html response containing a table. When the table gets 1700 rows it crashes the IE8 browser. The browser freezes and returns a null reference error. If I take the html that is being rendered and place it inside a DIV on the page it renders fine in IE8. Any suggestions?

  • Account for cancelling an update process

    - by Aerus
I'm trying to develop the logic of updating my (Java) application but I'm stuck on a particular problem. The user can, at any time, be it on purpose (by clicking the Cancel button) or unwillingly (system/power failure) cancel the update process. If the updater was busy downloading files or unpacking files and thus didn't make any changes to the main application yet, this can be easily recovered by re-downloading the files and continuing the update process like normally. But, how can i account for changes made to the main application (i.e. a file was only partially replaced, some files were corrupted, etc.) that result in a main application that can't be launched anymore? Is it possible to rollback the changes made during the update without having to keep a full backup of my application or without doing a full reinstall? Are there any standards for updating an application that can help me with this?

  • Is it possible to take a half done web application that has been started using VB.NET and continue u

    - by John ClearZ
A guy came to me there recently with a half done web app that has been created using VB.NET, nothing major, just a normal site. His original programmer couldn't continue so he wants me to finish it. Problem is I don't program using VB.NET nor have I any intention of learning it for a project this small. Usually I would run from something like this but I need the cash. Should I take the project and continue it using C# or just leave it. Has anyone had a similar experience and how did it turn out.

  • What web application is recommended when programming in Java for beginners?

    - by user1710260
I am a beginner (almost no knowledge) to web applications. I have been programming in Java for about a year now. I have being doing some research on the different frameworks that are available and I want to find which one is right for me. From what I found: Play, Stripes, and Spring are good choices for beginners, but how can I compare these frameworks together. What is it that I need to look for when comparing them? My project that I am starting to work on is similar to an App Store. Basically an info site on different apps. Any advise will be appreciated.
