• Options on installations of sql server 2008 express?

  I'm installing sqlserver 2008 express and I have a couple of questions, by default on the collation, it has SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS I'm just wondering which collation I should choose so that it can store all languages, English, Asian etc. also this is a brand new installation on a brand new box, should I use Default Instance or a Named Instance.   I was trying to fetch remote notification info when the app was not running,so I was told that I can get from : UILocalNotification *localNotification = [launchOptions objectForKey:UIApplicationLaunchOptionsRemoteNotificationKey] in method: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions ,but still can't get info. Then I use alertView to show the info on iPhone(launch without Xcode),still can't get the info. Any other issue would cause this? Please let me know if you have any ideas.

  If I wanted to add, let's say, a new .lib to the build only if a particular #define was set, how would I do that? In the MSVC++ 2008 "Property Pages", you would simply add: Config Properties -> Linker -> Input -> Additional Dependencies, but I would like it if something like #define COMPILE_WITH_DETOURS was set, then the particular library would be added to the dependencies, otherwise it would be removed.   This is either trivial or runs counter to the philosophy of how make should be used, but I'd like to have a command line that reads as "make debug" rather than "make DEBUG=1". I tried creating a phony target called debug that did nothing except set the DEBUG variable, but then there was a difference between "make debug build" and "make build debug"--namely that in one case, the variable got set after the build happened. Is there a way to give certain targets precedence? Thanks for your help.

It only showed the "is equal to - pre sample " part. I thought - did not care what was inside ? Can some explain how to make a truely literal block display ?   I've got a WinForms client-server app that displays various offers in a list. Every user (client) has a "rating". An offer consists of various data including a minimum and maximum rating. If a user's rating does not fall in that interval, he should not be able to take the offer. Of course I could just perform some server filtering and send a list of offers prefiltered for each user to the client application. But that would surely, and rightfully, lead to confused requests "Why isn't this offer showing up? I know it exists, it shows up on [other user]'s screen." How should I handle this? My favorite solution so far is to grey out the offer and add a tooltip "You can't take this offer because your rating is too high/low" while displaying greyed-out offers at the bottom of the list to leave the actually valid offers easily visible on top of the list.

• In GWT 2.1.0.M2 the options "-style pretty" couldn't be recognized

  I am using GWT eclipse plugin and try to add option "-style pretty" inside arguments tab of debug configuration window in eclipse. But after click debug it just prompts "Unknown argument: -style". I used to use webcreator to create gwt app. this is my first time to use plugin and i am not sure i put it into the right place or gwt 2.1.0.M2 just doesn't support this option (which is wired). Why normalized coordinates could make viewing process independent of the requirements of any output devices? Isn't the projection coordinates already independent of output device?We only need to first scale and then translate the projection coordinate then we will get device coordinate. So why do we need first convert the projection coordinate to normalized coordinate first? "Clipping is usually performed in normlized coordinates.This allows us to reduce computations by first concatenating the various transformation matrices" Why clipping is usually performed in normlized coordinates? • .BAT Switches Parsing

  Erm.. I'm working with a switches parsing in BAT files, which goes like this: <commands> -a -b -x -y -z -u abc ...... The user may input a lot of switch, or none. So I used looped shift to make parsing infinite switches possible: :loop IF "%1"=="-a" ... SHIFT GOTO loop But when the script ends, I always get cmd executing the switches and showing up error like '-n' is not recognized as an internal... So, someone got any idea? Thanks a lot... P/S: Make solution sticks with BAT script if possible as using other language may cause dependencies problem as this script is aimed on ANY computer with Windows. Finally, thanks again =) EDIT: Tried shf301 suggestion, i found out that I used DEL %0 to delete itself but it seems the %0 is shifted into the arguments because of the SHIFT command.

• Using these 2 build options in Visual Studio

  When I debug a project and there is an error in my code (e.g. a method returns something and when I consume that method, I don't put the returned data into a variable) the popup asking me to run the last successful build comes up. How exactly do I configure this? Also, in what scenario does the Visual Studio build order come in handy? I once built a solution, and it couldn't build one project because a dependent project was not built beforehand. I guess this one possible scenario? Any others? Thanks

• Cascading S3 Sink Tap not being deleted with SinkMode.REPLACE

  We are running Cascading with a Sink Tap being configured to store in Amazon S3 and were facing some FileAlreadyExistsException (see [1]). This was only from time to time (1 time on around 100) and was not reproducable. Digging into the Cascading codem, we discovered the Hfs.deleteResource() is called (among others) by the BaseFlow.deleteSinksIfNotUpdate(). Btw, we were quite intrigued with the silent NPE (with comment "hack to get around npe thrown when fs reaches root directory"). From there, we extended the Hfs tap with our own Tap to add more action in the deleteResource() method (see [2]) with a retry mechanism calling directly the getFileSystem(conf).delete. The retry mechanism seemed to bring improvement, but we are still sometimes facing failures (see example in [3]): it sounds like HDFS returns isDeleted=true, but asking directly after if the folder exists, we receive exists=true, which should not happen. Logs also shows randomly isDeleted true or false when the flow succeeds, which sounds like the returned value is irrelevant or not to be trusted. Can anybody bring his own S3 experience with such a behavior: "folder should be deleted, but it is not"? We suspect a S3 issue, but could it also be in Cascading or HDFS? We run on Hadoop Cloudera-cdh3u5 and Cascading 2.0.1-wip-dev. • How to treat compressed folders as files using ShellObject from WindowsAPICodePack?

  I am trying to implement a filesystem browser using the WindowsAPICodePack for C# (.Net 4), and it works pretty well, except that the ShellObject system treats zip files as folders, whereas I'd prefer they be files. Is there some way I can force it to work this way? The low-level interop it does is beyond me. As far as I can tell, internally it asks if the item is a Folder or a Filesystem element. It then uses this (and some type checks) to figure out what it actually is. Is it safe to force it to treat it as a file if it's Compressed? Or do I have to do something else?
