  • phpmyadmin and the database

    Not sure I fully understand what phpmyadmin does. I created a database in phpmyadmin, and would now like to start accessing the data in it from php. However I have no idea where the database is? Should I export in the phpmyadmin software? I tried that but it came up with a .sql file which can be opened in notepad and contains the SQL statements used to create the datbase and the one table inside. Basically that doesn't look like a database to me.

  • Sharing a database connection with included classes in a Sinatra application

    I'm converting a part of a rails application to its own sinatra application. It has some beefy work to do and rather than have a million helps in app.rb, I've separated some of it out into classes. Without access to rails I'm rewriting finder several methods and needing access to the database inside of my class. What's the best way to share a database connection between your application and a class? Or would you recommend pushing all database work into its own class and only having the connection established there? Here is what I have in in app.rb require 'lib/myclass' configure :production do MysqlDB = Sequel.connect('mysql://user:password@host:port/db_name') end I want to access it in lib/myclass.rb class Myclass def self.find_by_domain_and_stub(domain, stub) # want to do a query here end end I've tried several things but nothing that seems to work well enough to even include as an example.

I googled and read so much about automysqldump but i couldn't find the downloadable exe , i have downloaded the .sh file but i am very confused about how to use it. Please help me about this issue. I don't want to know how to use automysqldump but want to know any to backup and restore database using windows. Please tell in details, it's very urgent.

  • PHP/MySQL Database Issues

    PHP/MySQL newbie question. I have a database I've imported into my local phpmyadmin. However it seems I can't access it from my a php application. The connection string seems right and when I try to authenticate user credentials to access database information, no problems. However authenticate everyone and knows when I put in fake credentials. Still it won't pull any other information from the database. For instance, once a users login they should see something like, "Hello username", that kind of thing. At this point I see "Hello" without the username. Any ideas what i might be missing?

    My table structure looks like this: create table rankings ( id IDENTITY NOT NULL, user_id INT NOT NULL, game_poule_id INT NOT NULL, rank INT NOT NULL, insertDate DATETIME NOT NULL, FOREIGN KEY (user_id) REFERENCES users(id) ON DELETE CASCADE, FOREIGN KEY (game_poule_id) REFERENCES game_poules(id) ON DELETE CASCADE ); All old rankings of users per game are saved in this table. Now I want to have the last but one rank in the table for all users in a gamepoule. Has someone an idea how to achive this? Thanks

    I have a database table that essentially contains different types of things. I'll use animals as an example. I have a table called AnimalTypes: AnimalTypes { ID:int, Name:string } I then populate it with: 1:Dog, 2:Cat, 3:Fish I would like to then have some sort of C# object created that functions similar to this enum be entirely read from the database: enum AnimalTypes { Dog = 1, Cat = 2, Fish = 3 } Is there a way to create an enum/class from a database table as described? I basically want to be able to reference things in the AnimalTypes table using intellisense and AnimalTypes.Dog as an example; I don't actually need an enum, just something that kind of functions like one. Is this possible? Edit: I'm not really that thrilled about generating a DLL as I've seen in other related problems. I feel like this should be possible with reflection.

    I have this hypotetical MySQL table: TABLE cars: (year, color, brand) How do I count # of cars grouped by brand and year? I mean, how can I get to know how many colors are there grouped by brand like: brand "GM": total # of colors: 8. brand "GM": total # of years (grouped together): 14 (meaning there are count of 14 different years). brand "TOYOTA": total # of colors: 3. brand "TOYOTA": total # of years (grouped together): 10 (meaning there are count of 14 different years) I tried playing some queries with COUNT, DISTINCT, GROUP BY but I can't get to it.     Do you see database triggers / referential integrity rules being used in a way that changes actual data in the database (changing row w in table x causes a change in row y in table z)? If yes, How does this tie-in with the increasing popularity of in-memory caching (memcache and friends)? After all, these actions occur inside the database but the caching system must be aware of them in order to reflect to correct state (or at least invalidate the possibly changed state). I find it hard to believe that callbacks are implemented for such cases. Does anyone have real-world experience with such a setup / real-world experience with considering such a setup and abandoning it (which way did you go? if caching, how do you enforce integrity?)

    I have a table that has 5,000(table1) lines in it. Currently, 3,000 of them are filled up with data. The remaining values are currently null. In a separate table(table2), I have the remaining 2,000 rows of data. I am simply trying to take the values in table2 and put them in table1, but this statement isn't working: Update table1 Set field1 = (Select field1 From table2 Where table1.id = table2.id) Where Exists(Select field1 From table2 Where table1.id = table2.id) It looks like this should be working, but I am getting an error from Base, the db program I am using that just says error Near " ": syntax error...any help?? But i don't know how to get the same result using join. I consulted with some of my colleagues and they are saying that its not possible to use join in this situation. Is it possible to get the same result using joins? if yes, please tell me how.

    I am working on an enterprise level product that is designed around SQL Express Database ( views,concurrent users,stored procedures,case,IF).Though we dont use any SQL Server advanced features, if the database size of 4Gb in express ends up being a limitation customers can move to advanced versions of SQL Server. However my problem is, SQL Express deployment is not easy and the installer size is huge. This is a major drawback for someone looking to try our product.You dont want end users to not buy a product becos the download is huge. Does anyone have any recommendations of a database that has a smaller footprint but all the features of Express and which can be migrated to express?
