  • My partial is not where rails expects it to be (nested partials)

    I have a model Submissions which has many Performers. I have a partial for showing an individual submissions (app/views/submissions/_submission.html.erb): <div> Show stuff relating to @submission ... <%= render @performers %> </div> and a partial for showing performers (app/views/performers/_performer.html.erb): <%= div_for performer do %> <%= performer.name %> <% end %> This works fine from (app/views/submissions/show.html.erb): <%= render @submission %> But I want to use this from a different namespace too (app/views/curator/submissions/show.html.erb). But I get this error: Missing partial curator/submissions/submission with {:locale=>[:en], :formats=>[:html], :handlers=>[:erb, :builder, :coffee]}. Searched in: * "/Users/ircmullaney/RubyCode/cif/app/views" * "/Users/ircmullaney/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p194@rails3tutorial2ndEd/gems/devise-2.1.2/app/views" I can fix this by changing the render to this: <%= render 'submissions/submission' %> But, then the nested partial fails: Missing partial curator/performers/performer with {:locale=>[:en], :formats=>[:html], :handlers=>[:erb, :builder, :coffee]}.     Rinari hasn't been updated in the last few months, and there doesn't seem to be such progress made in the branches on github. I've never tried emacs-rails, but from what I can see, the same applies. So, is there a rails mode somewhere that's compatible with v3 ?

  • how get validation messages from mangomapper using rails console ?

    Hi, I am basically teaching myself how to use RoR and MongoDB at the same time. I am following the very good book / tutorial : http://railstutorial.org/ I decided to replace Sqlite3 by MongoDB using the mongomapper gem. Everything works out about alright, but I am having some non-blocking little issues that I truly wish I could get rid of. In chapter 6, when working with validation I got 2 issues: - I don't know how to get the validations messages back like with Sqlite3. The "standard" code is: $ rails console --sandbox >> user = User.new(:name => "", :email => "[email protected]") >> user.save => false >> user.valid? => false >> user.errors.full_messages => ["Name can't be blank"] but if I try to do the same with MongoMapper, it throws an error saying that errors is undefined function. So does it mean that this is simply not implemented in mongomapper / mongo driver ? Or is there some other clever way to do this that I could not figure ?     I have both Rails 2.3.4 and Rails 3.0.0.beta installed on my local machine. I am using ActiveRecord in a stand alone ruby script and when I do require 'active_record' 3.0.0.beta is loaded. How can I force it to require 2.3.4 instead? (without uninstalling 3.0.0.beta)

  • How to import RoR project to Netbeans

    I have very simple (in fact empty ) project which i have created by rails new MyProject command from command-line. So, i want to import it to NetBeans IDE. I click "new project" - "RoR" - "from existing source", select Ruby 1.9.2 (instead of embedded JRuby) in the wizard form. After that i have got errors [see the picture below]: So.. i click OK.   • Why do i get a circular reference exception when calling to_json on an ActiveRecord::Relation

    In Rails 3 (beta 3 on 1.8.7), when calling to_json on a relation i get a circular reference exception. Converting that relation to an array first, and THEN calling to_json works. Code That fails: Model.where().to_json (Where model is any model in your Rails 3 app) Code that works: Model.where().to_a.to_json This can be reproed on the console. Has anyone else run in to this? Is this expected?

  • Create web application with ajax from the begining or add ajax later?

    I'm working on my first Ruby on Rails aplication and it's quite big (at least for me ;) - database has about 25 tables). I'm still learning Ruby and Rails and I never wrote anything in Javascript nor Ajax. Should I add Ajax to my application from the begining? Or maybe it will be better to add it latter? Or in the other words: is it (relatively) easy to add ajax to existing web application?

  • How do I uninstall a ruby version installed via source?

    I installed a version (1.9.3-p194) of ruby via source using make install and realized this may have been the wrong route to take. Upon doing this, I realized this was a mistake and I should be using a solution such as rvm to address my ruby versions within the OS. I looked to see if an uninstall existed to be ran in conjunction with make and it didn't. I then proceeded to install rvm and add the aforementioned version in to my list of managed rubies within rvm which is not listed as ext-ruby-1.9.3-p194. rvm rubies ext-ruby-1.9.3-p194 [ x86_64 ] =* ruby-1.9.3-p194 [ x86_64 ] # => - current # =* - current && default # * - default** When I perform an rvm remove, it simply removes it from the rubies list however it still exists within /usr/local/bin. I am not concerned with the system install ruby version residing in /usr/bin as I understand that is tied to the OS and should simply be ignored. How can I safely uninstall/remove the aforementioned version and all the places in which it was installed, short of looking at the install script?

  • Is Rails Metal (& Rack) a good way to implement a high traffic web service api?

    I am working on a very typical web application. The main component of the user experience is a widget that a site owner would install on their front page. Every time their front page loads, the widget talks to our server and displays some of the data that returns. So there are two components to this web application: the front end UI that the site owner uses to configure their widget the back end component that responds to the widget's web api call Previously we had all of this running in PHP. Now we are experimenting with Rails, which is fantastic for #1 (the front end UI). The question is how to do #2, the back serving of widget information, efficiently. Obviously this is much higher load than the front end, since it is called every time the front page loads on one of our clients' websites. I can see two obvious approaches: A. Parallel Stack: Set up a parallel stack that uses something other than rails (e.g. our old PHP-based approach) but accesses the same database as the front end B. Rails Metal: Use Rails Metal/Rack to bypass the Rails routing mechanism, but keep the api call responder within the Rails app My main question: Is Rails/Metal a reasonable approach for something like this? But also... Will the overhead of loading the Rails environment still be too heavy? Is there a way to get even closer to the metal with Rails, bypassing most of the environment? Will Rails/Metal performance approach the perf of a similar task on straight PHP (just looking for ballpark here)? And... Is there a 'C' option that would be much better than both A and B? That is, something before going to the lengths of C code compiled to binary and installed as an nginx or apache module? Thanks in advance for any insights.

    So I'm going around in circles with this - I'm using a fork of the Paperclip Rails gem to get it to work with Rails3. Works fine on my OSX box with Passenger. But on my server (CentOS 5) I get this this error: git://github.com/lmumar/paperclip.git (at rails3) is not checked out. Please runbundle install(Bundler::PathError)Blockquote I tried Bundle Pack, but that doesnt pack gems from github. I read a post about setting the parh to the BUNDLE_HOME in my application.rb file which I tried: ENV['BUNDLER_HOME']="~/.bundle/ruby/1.8/bundler/gems/" But that doesnt work. Any ideas anyone? I dont know what else to do and have no idea how to debug or trace the problem further :( Passenger version 2.2.11. thanks.

    I want to use tags for a model in my Rails application, and I'd like to have the same kind of tag selection mechanism that Stack Overflow has when asking a question. I.e. I type in 'rails' and it drops down a list of tags that include 'rails', and I can go on to add more tags from there. Is there a plugin that can do this? I'm comfortable putting together the tag model and migrations myself, that isn't an issue. I just need something to handle the AJAX and javascript. I'm using prototype and Rails 2.3.

    I know Rails.cache is ActiveSupport::Cache::MemoryStore, and it is not thread safe. I don't understand, why rails use a thread-unsafe cache as its default? Why not use ActiveSupport::Cache::SynchronizedMemoryStore? In my opinion, in a web site, if a cache is not thread-safe, it almost useless, because the requests are not handled in ONE thread. Do you use Rails.cache in you webapp? And how do you use it?

    I started RoR development a few months ago, and being new to Mac... Time flies and now I have a lot different ruby versions, rails versions and gems versions located everywhere......And currently I installed rvm and things got even worst, all things messed! And so I started want to clean all things and use rvm again! I want to uninstall all gems, all rails, and all ruby versions, except the system's default one (the very old one born with the mac). Or any other better solutions or suggestions!?   • Compass Rails 3.0 working with 'compass watch' but not without

    I'm trying Compass with Rails 3.0.7, just trying to get started. Using gem compass-rails. If I put my sass file in app/assets/stylesheets and run 'compass watch', everything works ok: the compiled css is put into public/stylesheets. However, if I stop 'watch' and rely on Rails to do the compilation, it does not work. Instead, the program looks at the public/stylesheets/sass folder for the input. Furthermore, if a file in that folder has the '@include "compass"' directive, I get an error that the file is not found. How do I force Rails to look in the right place -- app/assets/stylesheets?

  • Is it possible to use RubyGnome2's/QtRuby's HTML renderers to make UI for a Ruby script?

    I'd like to make a graphical user interface for my script, instead of running it from the console. I'm aware there's a wealth of UI libraries for Ruby, but I'm quite familiar with HTML and CSS and I'd like to use them for building an interface. So the question is: Is it possible to use a HTML rendering library to make such an UI? From what I understand, it's relatively easy to put in a HTML rendered view of something, but is it possible to communicate back with the script? Like when I push that big red button, it actually tells the script to act on it? Obviously it's possible if the script run on the server side, but I'd like to run it as a desktop application.

  • XML Schema (XSD) to Rails ActiveRecord Mapping?

    I'm looking for a way to convert an XML Schema definition file into an ActiveRecord modeled database. Does anyone know of a tool that happens to do this? So far the best way I've found is to first load the XSD into an RDBMS like postgres or mysql and then have rails connect to do a rake db:schema:dump. This however, only leaves me with a database without rails Models. What would be the best way to import/load this xsd based database into rails?
