  • SEO: Duplicated URLs with and without dash "/" and ASP.NET MVC

    - by Guillermo Guerini
Hello guys, after reading this article "Slash or not to slash" (link: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2010/04/to-slash-or-not-to-slash.html) on Google Webmaster Central Blog (the oficial one) I decided to test my ASP.NET MVC app. For example: http://domain.com/products and http://domain.com/products/ (with "/" in the end), return the code 200, which means: Google understands it as two different links and likely to be a "duplicated content". They suggest to choose the way you want... with or without dash and create a 301 permanent redirect to the preferred way. So if I choose without dash, when I try to access http://domain.com/products/ it will return a 301 to the link without dash: http://domain.com/products. The question is, how can I do that with ASP.NET MVC? Thanks, Gui

  • Gateway Page Between ASP and an ASP.NET Page

    - by ajdams
I'll admit, I am pretty new with ASP .NET programming and I have been asked to take all our gateway pages (written in classic ASP) and make one universal gateway page to the few C# .NET applications we have (that I wrote). I tried searching here and the web and couldn't find much of anything describing a great way to do this and figured I was either not searching properly or was not properly naming what I am trying to do. I decided to to take one of the main gateway pages we had in classic ASP and use that as a base for my new gateway. Without boring you with a bunch of code I will summarize my gateway in steps and then can take advice/critique from there. EDIT: Basically what I am trying to do is go from a classic ASP page to a ASP .NET page and then back again. EDIT2: If my question is still unclear I am asking if what I have an the right start and if anyone has suggestions as to how this could be better. It can be as generic as need-be, not looking for a specific off-the-shelf code answer. My Gateway page: In the first part of the page I grab session variables and determine if the user is leaving or returning through the gateway: Code (in VB): uid = Request.QueryString("GUID") If uid = "" Then direction = "Leaving" End If ' Gather available user information. userid = Session("lnglrnregid") bankid = Session("strBankid") ' Return location. floor = Request.QueryString("Floor") ' The option chosen will determine if the user continues as SSL or not. ' If they are currently SSL, they should remain if chosen. option1 = Application(bankid & "Option1") If MID(option1, 6, 1) = "1" Then sslHttps = "s" End If Next I enter the uid into a database table (SQL-Server 2005) as a uniqueidentifier field called GUID. I omitted the stored procedure call. Lastly, I use the direction variable to determine if the user is leaving or returning and do redirects from there to the different areas of the site. Code (In VB again): If direction = "Leaving" Then Select Case floor Case "sscat", "ssassign" ' A SkillSoft course Response.Redirect("Some site here") Case "lrcat", "lrassign" ' A LawRoom course Response.Redirect("Some site here") Case Else ' Some other SCORM course like MindLeaders or a custom upload. Response.Redirect("Some site here") End Select Session.Abandon Else ' The only other direction is "Returning" ..... That's about it so far - so like I said, not an expert so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • how to group by over anonymous type with vb.net linq to object

    - by smoothdeveloper
I'm trying to write a linq to object query in vb.net, here is the c# version of what I'm trying to achieve (I'm running this in linqpad): void Main() { var items = GetArray( new {a="a",b="a",c=1} , new {a="a",b="a",c=2} , new {a="a",b="b",c=1} ); ( from i in items group i by new {i.a, i.b} into g let p = new{ k = g, v = g.Sum((i)=>i.c)} where p.v > 1 select p ).Dump(); } // because vb.net doesn't support anonymous type array initializer, it will ease the translation T[] GetArray<T>(params T[] values){ return values; } I'm having hard time with either the group by syntax which is not the same (vb require 'identifier = expression' at some places, as well as with the summing functor with 'expression required' ) Thanks so much for your help!

  • ASP.NET MVC & Detached Entity won't save

    - by Justin
Hey all, I have an ASP.NET MVC POST action for saving an entity on submit of a form. It works fine for insert but doesn't work for update, the database doesn't get called, so it's clearly not tracking the changes, as it's "detached". I'm using Entity Framework w/.NET 4: //POST: /Developers/Save/ [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Save(Developer developer) { developer.UpdateDate = DateTime. Now; if (developer.DeveloperID == 0) {//inserting new developer. DataContext.DeveloperData.Insert(developer); } //save changes - TODO: doesn't update... DataContext.SaveChanges(); //redirect to developer list. return RedirectToAction("Index"); } Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Justin

  • Lucene.NET search index approach

    - by Tim Peel
Hi, I am trying to put together a test case for using Lucene.NET on one of our websites. I'd like to do the following: Index in a single unique id. Index across a comma delimitered string of terms or tags. For example. Item 1: Id = 1 Tags = Something,Separated-Term I will then be structuring the search so I can look for documents against tag i.e. tags:something OR tags:separate-term I need to maintain the exact term value in order to search against it. I have something running, and the search query is being parsed as expected, but I am not seeing any results. Here's some code. My parser (_luceneAnalyzer is passed into my indexing service): var parser = new QueryParser(Lucene.Net.Util.Version.LUCENE_CURRENT, "Tags", _luceneAnalyzer); parser.SetDefaultOperator(QueryParser.Operator.AND); return parser; My Lucene.NET document creation: var doc = new Document(); var id = new Field( "Id", NumericUtils.IntToPrefixCoded(indexObject.id), Field.Store.YES, Field.Index.NOT_ANALYZED, Field.TermVector.NO); var tags = new Field( "Tags", string.Join(",", indexObject.Tags.ToArray()), Field.Store.NO, Field.Index.ANALYZED, Field.TermVector.YES); doc.Add(id); doc.Add(tags); return doc; My search: var parser = BuildQueryParser(); var query = parser.Parse(searchQuery); var searcher = Searcher; TopDocs hits = searcher.Search(query, null, max); IList<SearchResult> result = new List<SearchResult>(); float scoreNorm = 1.0f / hits.GetMaxScore(); for (int i = 0; i < hits.scoreDocs.Length; i++) { float score = hits.scoreDocs[i].score * scoreNorm; result.Add(CreateSearchResult(searcher.Doc(hits.scoreDocs[i].doc), score)); } return result; I have two documents in my index, one with the tag "Something" and one with the tags "Something" and "Separated-Term". It's important for the - to remain in the terms as I want an exact match on the full value. When I search with "tags:Something" I do not get any results. Question What Analyzer should I be using to achieve the search index I am after? Are there any pointers for putting together a search such as this? Why is my current search not returning any results? Many thanks

  • Using a .MDF SQL Server Database with ASP.NET Versus Using SQL Server

    - by Maxim Z.
I'm currently writing a website in ASP.NET MVC, and my database (which doesn't have any data in it yet, it only has the correct tables) uses SQL Server 2008, which I have installed on my development machine. I connect to the database out of my application by using the Server Explorer, followed by LINQ to SQL mapping. Once I finish developing the site, I will move it over to my hosting service, which is a virtual hosting plan. I'm concerned about whether using the SQL Server setup that is currently working on my development machine will be hard to do on the production server, as I'll have to import all the database tables through the hosting control panel. I've noticed that it is possible to create a SQL Server database from inside Visual Studio. It is then stored in the App_Data directory. My questions are the following: Does it make sense to move my SQL Server DB out of SQL Server and into the App_Data directory as an .mdf file? If so, how can I move it? I believe this is called the Detach command, is it not? Are there any performance/security issues that can occur with a .mdf file like this? Would my intended setup work OK with a typical virtual hosting plan? I'm hoping that the .mdf database won't count against the limited number of SQL Server databases that can be created with my plan. I hope this question isn't too broad. Thanks in advance! Note: I'm just starting out with ASP.NET MVC and all this, so I might be completely misunderstanding how this is supposed to work.

  • ASP.net AppendHeader not working in ASP MVC

    - by Chao
    I'm having problems getting AppendHeader to work properly if I am also using an authorize filter. I'm using an actionfilter for my AJAX actions that applies Expires, Last-Modified, Cache-Control and Pragma (though while testing I have tried including it in the action method itself with no change in results). If I don't have an authorize filter the headers work fine. Once I add the filter the headers I tried to add get stripped. The headers I want to add Response.AppendHeader("Expires", "Sun, 19 Nov 1978 05:00:00 GMT"); Response.AppendHeader("Last-Modified", String.Format("{0:r}", DateTime.Now)); Response.AppendHeader("Cache-Control", "no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate"); Response.AppendHeader("Cache-Control", "post-check=0, pre-check=0"); Response.AppendHeader("Pragma", "no-cache"); An example of the headers from a correct page: Server ASP.NET Development Server/9.0.0.0 Date Mon, 14 Jun 2010 17:22:24 GMT X-AspNet-Version 2.0.50727 X-AspNetMvc-Version 2.0 Pragma no-cache Expires Sun, 19 Nov 1978 05:00:00 GMT Last-Modified Mon, 14 Jun 2010 18:22:24 GMT Cache-Control no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0 Content-Type text/html; charset=utf-8 Content-Length 352 Connection Close And from an incorrect page: Server ASP.NET Development Server/9.0.0.0 Date Mon, 14 Jun 2010 17:27:34 GMT X-AspNet-Version 2.0.50727 X-AspNetMvc-Version 2.0 Pragma no-cache, no-cache Cache-Control private, s-maxage=0 Content-Type text/html; charset=utf-8 Content-Length 4937 Connection Close

  • migrate method Rand(int) Visual Fox Pro to C#.net

    - by ch2o
I'm migrating a Visual Fox Pro code to C #. NET What makes the Visual Fox Pro: generates a string of 5 digits ("48963") based on a text string (captured in a textbox), if you always enter the same text string will get that string always 5 digits (no reverse), my code in C #. NET should generate the same string. I want to migrate the following code (Visual Fox Pro 6 to C#) gnLower = 1000 gnUpper = 100000 vcad = 1 For y=gnLower to gnUpper step 52 genClave = **Rand(vcad)** * y vRound = allt(str(int(genclave))) IF Len(vRound) = 3 vDec = Right(allt(str(genClave,10,2)), 2) finClave = vRound+vDec Thisform.txtPass.value = Rand(971); Exit Endif Next y outputs: vcad = 1 return: 99905 vcad = 2 return: 10077 vcad = thanks return: 17200 thks!

  • .NET Framework 3.5, Assembly Binding Logging

    - by Achilles
I am getting the following error: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.DynamicData, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. I've researched the problem and some of the solutions are pointing to Turning on Assembly Binding Logging. I'm confused as to what this error is. So my question: *What does this error mean and how do I resolve it? I am not hosting the site in a shared hosting scenario, it is on a single server running .NET Framework 3.5.0 using IIS 6.0 Edit .Net Framework 3.5 SP 1 isn't installed on the server. The missing assemblies are apart of that Service Pack.

  • Adding an attachment to a .NET Email

    - by Velika
How do I attach a file with a very unfriendly name (like a file with a session Id number in it) but have it attached as another name? The file has the session ID in it to avoid clashes name on the web server nut when I attach it to the file, a friendlier name is preferable. Is there a way to attach the file with teh unfriendly name as anotehr name so that when the user gets the email he can tell from the name what the content of the file is? I'd hate to have to create a unique folder just to put a common file name in it for the purpose of simply attaching it to an email. Dim mailMessage As System.Net.Mail.MailMessage = New System.Net.Mail.MailMessage() mailMessage.Attachments.Add("unfriendlyname.txt", ????)

  • ASP.NET MVC Authentication Cookie Not Being Retrieved

    - by Jamie Wright
I am having a hard time implementing "Remember Me" functionality in an MVC application with a custom principal. I have boiled it down to ASP.NET not retrieving the authentication cookie for me. I have included a snaphot below from Google Chrome. Shows the results of Request.Cookies that is set within the controller action and placed in ViewData for the view to read. Notice that it is missing the .ASPXAUTH cookie Shows the results from the Chrome developer tools. You can see that .ASPXAUTH is included here. Does anyone know what the issue may be here? Why does ASP.NET not read this value from the cookie collection?

  • set label value in vb.net

    - by julio
Hi-- I'm usually a PHP guy but got stuck doing a project in vb.net. I have a query (sqldatasource) that returns a single value (the last update date). I want to use a label to say something like "Last updated: " < Label = (returned value) In PHP this would be simple. In vb.net, all I can find are endless badly written code behinds showing how you'd execute the query onLoad then bind it to the label. Is this really the only way to do this? It seems like a ridiculously simple problem to have such a long solution. I have used a datagrid control to just bind the query result directly, but it prints the column name as well as the date, so it's not ideal. Any ideas?

  • .Net friendly, local, key-value pair, replicatable datastore

    - by Brad Mathews
I am looking for a key/value type datastore with very specific requirements. Anyone know anything that will work? Needs to be a component of some sort. No additional installation needed. The datastore needs to be on the local hard drive. I am using VB.Net for a desktop app running Windows XP through 7 so it needs to callable by that environment. It needs to replicatable. If I have four copies of my app running on the network, each local copy of the datastore needs to replicate with the others. As close to real time as possible. The first three are easy, I can do that with ADO.Net out of the box. The last one, replication, is the one I do not have answer to. Does such an animal exist? Thanks, Brad

  • In VB.NET how do you specify Inherits/implements on a generic class with multi-constraints

    - by Romel Evans
When I write the following statement in VB.Net (C# is my normal language), I get an "end of statement expected" referring to the "Implements" statement. <Serializable()> _ <XmlSchemaProvider("EtgSchema")> _ Public Class SerializeableEntity(Of T As {Class, ISerializable, New}) _ Implements IXmlSerializable, ISerializable ... End Class The C# version that I'm trying to emulate is: [Serializable] [XmlSchemaProvider("MySchema")] public class SerializableEntity<T> : IXmlSerializable, ISerializable where T : class, new() { .... } Sometimes I feel like I have 5 thumbs with VB.NET :)

  • ASP.net VB Timers

    - by Tom Gullen
I would like to be able to time a page load time in ASP.net (VBscript). Adding Trace="true" to the page directive is nice, but I need to actually time an event and store it in a variable. In ASP it was easy with the Timer object, but in .net I can't find anything on Google. I need something along the lines of: Dim startTime Dim endTime startTime = now() doBigFunction() endTime = now() response.write("That took " & endTime - startTime & " milliseconds") Cheers!
