• Windows.Forms.Timer instance and UI threads

  I have a custom control whose primary purpose is to draw data. I want to add a ScheduleUpdate(int milliSeconds) method to the control which will force an update X milliseconds from now. Since this is all GUI land, I should be using a Windows.Forms.Timer, but how does this timer instance know which thread it belongs to? What if ScheduleUpdate() is called from a non-UI thread? Should I construct the timer in the Control constructor? Or perhaps the Load event? Or is it safe to postpone construction until I'm inside ScheduleUpdate()? I know there are some very similar questions about this already, but I don't have a Timer component on my control, I'm constructing it on a when-it's-needed basis.

• Binding jQuery UI plugin after $.load

  I have a function that attaches the jQuery UI DatePicker (with my options) to a passed jQuery object: function bindDatepicker($obj) { if ($obj == null) $obj = $("input.date"); $obj.datepicker( { appendText: '(yyyy-mm-dd)', autoSize: true, changeMonth: true, changeYear: true, closeText: 'Done', dateFormat: 'yy-mm-dd', defaultDate: '+1m', minDate: +1, numberOfMonths: 2 } ); } I call this at the beginning of every page to bind it to input elements: $(function() { bindDatepicker($("input.date")); }); This works fine. My problem comes in when I load form elements using $.load(). I cannot attach the DatePicker to any of the loaded elements. For example: $("#id").load("urlToLoad", function() { bindDatepicker($("input.date")); }); Loads the form elements into a div just fine, but will not attach the DatePicker. Why is this? • Is there a recommended way to use the Observer pattern in MVP using GWT?

  I am thinking about implementing a user interface according to the MVP pattern using GWT, but have doubts about how to proceed. These are (some of) my goals: - the presenter knows nothing about the UI technology (i.e. uses nothing from com.google.*) - the view knows nothing about the model or the presenter - the model knows nothing of the view or the presenter (...obviously) I would place an interface between the view and the presenter and use the Observer pattern to decouple the two: the view generates events and the presenter gets notified. What confuses me is that java.util.Observer and java.util.Observable are not supported in GWT. This suggests that what I'm doing is not the recommended way to do it, as far as GWT is concerned, which leads me to my questions: what is the recommended way to implement MVP using GWT, specifically with the above goals in mind? How would you do it?

• How do you handle large repeated UI elements with JQuery

  Howdy, Here's the situation: You have a very complex UI element that is repeated in a list. Each has a menu on it, buttons, it hides and shows subelements, buttons for switch it's state, etc, etc. The elements are populated via JSON so you have to construct the elements and the functionality of the fly. What's the best way to accomplish this with JQuery? Where would you save the reusable template for the DOM structure? How would you add the behavior on? $().live? .livequery? onclick? manual after every JSON get? I guess I just see a lot of people doing different things. What's your experience with performance?   I have a number of inputs on a page function as JQ UI datepicker. Each needs to have different settings. If I empty the parentheses after $this.datepicker it works fine. I have also tried another way to assign settings. ("option",...) no dice.

• clicking anchor element within jquery tab loads new page *outside* tab

  Hello, I would like to be able to click on an achor element from a page inside a jQuery tab and have that new page load directly inside the original tab. I used sample code from the jQuery tutorial page but to no avail! When I click on the anchor tag, I get redirected to www.google.com but lose my tabs. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? would really appreciate it. • How can I separate Logic/UI in Android

  Hi, I want as my application to be structured in 2 parts: the logic code and the UI. I've tried to implement that using a controller class(here I keep the logic code) inside of each activity. The activity send messages to controller and receive the answer in two ways: the answer is returned immediately (if the action is not complex and it can be done in a verry short time) the activity set some listeners and the controller fire this listener when the action is complete. The problems appears when the controller have a lot of objects(each object should handle a set of actions and for each action I have to set & trigger a listener): it is hard to keep the code syncronized. I'm asking if you know a better way to implement this mechanism. Thank you.

• Feature activate via UI but does not show in the Libraries and Lists

  I am really hating SharePoint as there are hardly any good/concrete documentation. I developed custom List "MainCatalog" with few columns (not site columns). Create features and elements with MOSS feature builder at Site collection level so scope="site" installed via stsadm activated via UI "went to site collection website", Site Setting Site collection Feature (and saw my custom list "MainCatalog") and was able to activate. then went to "mySiteCollection Site Settings Site Libraries and Lists " My list is showing But it shows in the "mySiteCollection Create Custom Lists "MainCatalog" I guess it's showing there as a template... But my intention is to deploy this list from development to test environment. EXTREMELY STRESSED. I AM ON THIS FOR LAST 8 DAYS.....

• Problem with TabHost UI layout.

  What I'm trying to do is create a layout like this: +--------+ Search |EditText| [Button] +--------+ +---------+ |Tab 1 |---------+ | |Tab 2 | |---------+---------+-----------------+ | ListView Item 1 | | ListView Item 2 | | ListView Item 3 | | ListView Item 4 | | ListView Item 5 | | ListView Item 6 | | ListView Item 7 | | ListView Item 8 | | ListView Item 9 | | ListView Item 10 | +-------------------------------------+ So that's a TextView saying 'Search', an EditText and a button. Then below it the tabs - Tab 1 has a ListView, Tab 2 some other stuff. I can get a simple TabHost setup with two tabs working fine but can't get the above to lay out properly. Any hints ? I'd create the UI in the Eclipse designer and check the XML from that, except the designer doesn't work with TabHost. And DroidDraw doesn't seem to know about TabHost.

  in the cpanel that i'm developing thre is a department for articles in arabic and english so i used two tinymce editors one for arabic and the other is for english it works as expected, but the problem is that when i'm using chrome browser the page suddenly become not responding and never come back and i need to restart it but in IE8 no problem at all. i've found in chrome task manager that the memory usage of the page is over 22 kilobyte. i'm also using jquery ui. i've tried the following 1- using jquery plugin the compressor tiny_mce_gzip.php 2- decreasing the plugins of tinymce [ispell,layers,..] what is the solution or what is the cause

  I've searched everywhere, but I can't seem to find any help... I have some textboxes that are created dynamically via JS, so I need to bind all of their classes to an autocomplete. As a result, I need to use the new .live() option. As an example, to bind all items with a class of .foo now and future created: $('.foo').live('click', function(){ alert('clicked'); }); It takes (and behaves) the same as .bind(). However, I want to bind an autocomplete... • <embed> in HTML loaded by Webview Broken in Sense UI

  I have a WebView that loads HTML that contains an <embed>. When loading in stock android (G1, NexusOne, Ion, etc) it looks fine and can be clicked on to watch it in the YouTube app. But when loading it using either the HTC EVO or Incredible (both Sense UI phones ) the space where the content should be is completely blank. Try this code below... Any ideas? I'm stumped. Certainly looks like an HTC Sense bug? • Recommendations with hierarchical data on non-relational databases?

  I'm developing an web application that uses a non-relational database as a backend (django-nonrel + AppEngine). I need to store some hierarchical data (projects/subproject_1/subproject_N/tasks), and I'm wondering which pattern should I use. For now I thought of: Adjacency List (store the item's parent id) Nested sets (store left and right values for the item) In my case, the depth of nesting for a normal user will not exceed 4-5 levels. Also, on the UI, I would like to have a pagination for the items on the first level, to avoid to load too many items at the first page load. From what I understand so far, nested sets are great when the hierarchy is used more for displaying. Adjacency lists are great when editing on the tree is done often. In my case I guess I need the displaying more than the editing (when using nested sets, even if the display would work great, the above pagination could complicate things on editing). Do you have any thoughts and advice, based on your experience with the non-relational databases?

  I'm trying to figure out the best way to make an image rotate along with a user's finger dragging it left or right. I want to try and match the rate a user's finger is moving with the rate the image is rotating. I've got the basic setup for my application going, with the menus and whatnot I want to have, and that's all running great on the emulator, I'm just not sure how to approach this part. • Recieveing "EXC_BAD_ACCESS" before any UI elements load (on device only)

  Everything works fine on the simulator, but I gete EXC_BAD_ACCESS when I try to load my app on the device. I've put in a bunch of NSLogs to try and catch where it happens, but the log statements are never reached. Also, the UI doesn't load. So, seems the problem is happening before any of my code is reached. I tried a clean build, no luck. Also tried building and installing a different app, which works fine. So, looks like there's something wrong with my app, but it's something that happens before any of my code gets called. So, any ideas?

  Hello, I had inserted two jQuery tabs on my site. One div container had the id - tabs and another had the id tabs-for-views. Both of them were working fine till sometime ago, until i made some changes. I don't remember what the exact changes were.. Right now, the first tab uses the jQuery UI theme I am using. As in, I can see the tab navigation and content panels - but on clicking the tabs nothing happens. But the second (tabs-for-views) is not even converted to proper tabs format.   So I'm comfortable with the basic concept of CQS, where you might have a command that writes to one database, and that updates the query database that you read from. However, consider the scenario where you are entering data, and want to prevent duplicates. Using new employee data entry an employee register as an example, working through a pile of application forms to key in the new employees' details: Take top sheet. Key in employee name and unique payroll number to UI. Submit. Put paper in "completed pile". Repeat. How would you now prevent the user from keying in the same payroll number again, say for instance if they get distracted and can't remember whether they've keyed one in already and the "message" hasn't got all the way back to the query db for the user to search?

• GWT: Loading different UI's based on URL

  Trying to get a GWT project off the ground and finding it difficult to do any basic routing. Trying to fire up different UI's based on the URL. Thought I could set a string based on the getHash() and then switch off that, but seems cumbersome (and annoying since I can't do string-based switches in Java). There's got to be a best practice for this. I know Gerrit uses hashes for determining this type of information but couldn't find where they do it in the source. Or is this totally not GWT-related? Something I can handle in web.xml? Any help is much appreciated.
