    I am newbie to Linux and Centos6. I bought server just now and want to deploy my web app in it. I am getting error while I am compiling my servlet classes. It showing me bash: javac: command not found when I try to compile my classes. But when I checked my class in '/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0/bin .'I found my javac there. Then I checked javac with the help of command ./javac i got ERROR..     Hi everyone, I need to get all available info on 600 URLs from "Alexa Web Information Service", I downloaded the java tool and I'm able to run a single query each time with a single switch/Response Group. I would like to ask how to write a batch file that would automate the process ? the java tool runs from the CMD with the following: C:java UrlInfo (key1) (key2) (URL) (Response Group) UrlInfo - constant key1 - constant key2 -constant URL - variable (I guess I need to use the "(" sign to read from a file) Response Group - variable - (14 total, and I need to run each Response Group on each of the URLs once ) the app returns data in clear text formatted as XML after each query, here is an example: C:java UrlInfo (key1) (key2) www.url.com Rank Response: (?xml version="1.0"?)     Installing a regular Java plugin is IMHO a real security risk for non-IT people. Normally Java applets run in a sandbox and the applet cannot do anything harmful to your computer. If an applet, however, needs to do something like read-only accessing your filesystem e.g. uploading an image, you have to give it more privileges. Usually that's ok but I think not everyone knows that you give the applet the same privileges to your computer as your user has! And that's everything Java asks you: That looks as 'harmful' as a self-signed SSL certificate on a random page where no sensitive data is exchanged. The user will click on Run! You can try that at home using JyConsole, that's Jython (Python on Java)! Simply type in python code, e.g. import os os.system('cat /etc/passwd') or worse DON'T TYPE IN THAT CODE ON YOUR COMPUTER!!! import os os.system('rm -rf ~') ... Does anyone know how you can disable the possibily of privilege escalation? And by the way, does anyone know why SUN displays only a dialog as harmless as the one shown above (the self-signed-SSL-certificate-dialog from Firefox 3 and above is much clearer here!)?   • Cant connect to MySQL server from Java application

    This is on VPS\Centos server. The MySQL server is pre configured. I am running the Java application on Tomcat My Java web application is not able to connect to the MySQL server. I get an error - "Caused by: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused" I suspect this to be a configuration problem rather than a coding problem- hence I have posted this on ServerFault And yes, The same web-app is able to connect to MySQL on a different linux box This is the URL that I provided to my Java application (note- it assumes default port) url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost/pickupgames" My first suspicion was that I am running on a non-default port So I tried to find the port where mySQL server is running I tried every trick mentioned in http://serverfault.com/questions/116100/how-to-check-what-port-mysql-is-running-on But no luck !   • Unable To Successfully Use Java Anywhere (Windows 7 64bit)

    This is a bit of an odd issue: (This is with JRE 7u7 32bit.) New Lenovo W530 laptop, everything is shiny. I tried to use a java applet for the first time recently (in Chrome). I got the Java logo and it started spinning like it was going to load, but didn't get anywhere and the browser locked up. I tried IE. Same deal. Tried Firefox. Same deal. So, I did the usual things: Rebooted, nothing. Un-installed Java, rebooted, re-installed, nothing. Tried it installing a 64bit Java as well. Same thing. I tried JRE6. Same thing. I uninstalled and manually deleted all the registry entries I could find related to it, then re-installed. Same thing. I un-installed and used the JavaRa utility. Same exact thing. I've not been able to use web applets or desktop stuff (minecraft), until yesterday. I did a graphics driver update and I was able to play minecraft for small amounts of time. It crashed regularly and wouldn't start reliably. No change in web applets. I'm at my wits end here. I'm to the point where reformatting is my only option. If anyone has any ideas at all, that would be awesome.

  • How do I switch java versions to an earlier version in Fedora 17?

    I just installed Fedora 17. I'm setting up the Android Build Environment and need Java. I downloaded and installed jdk-6u32-linux-amd64.rpm I ran java -version and it spit out the correct version. Well a day or two later i tried my first compile in Fedora 17 and it complained about java and failed. I ran java -version again and low and behold it spits out $ java -version java version "1.7.0_03-icedtea" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (fedora-2.1.fc17.7-x86_64) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 22.0-b10, mixed mode) I'm stumped. I mean, i've run the update/upgrade commands since i installed but i didn't think that updated full version revisions... So, I ran alternatives --config java and that only gave me the java 1.7 version. While digging around more I discovered that the recommended version of Java for the build environment is jdk-6u27-linux-x64-rpm.bin so I downloaded that from here: Oracle Download When I ran: sudo sh jdk-6u27-linux-x64-rpm.bin it returned: Unpacking... Checksumming... Extracting...     I'm having issues with a JRuby (rails) app running in tomcat. Occasionally page requests can take up to a minute to return (even though the rails logs processed the request in seconds so it's obviously a tomcat issue). I'm wondering what settings are optimal for the java heap size. I know there's no definitive answer, but I thought maybe someone could comment on my setup. I'm on a small EC2 instance which has 1.7g ram. I have the following JAVA_OPTS: -Xmx1536m -Xms256m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled My first thought is that Xmx is too high. If I only have 1.7gb and I allocated 1.5gb to java, i feel like I'll get a lot of paging. Typically my java process shows (in top) 1.1g res memory and 2g virtual. I also read somewhere that setting the Xms and Xmx to the same size will help as it eliminates time spend on memory allocation. I'm not a java person but I've been tasked with figuring out this problem and I'm trying to find out where to start. Any tips are greatly appreciated!! update I've started analyzing the garbage collection dumps using -XX:+PrintGCDetails When i notice these occasional long load times, the gc logs go nuts. the last one I did (which took 25s to complete) I had gc log lines such as: 1720.267: [GC 1720.267: [DefNew: 27712K->16K(31104K), 0.0068020 secs] 281792K->254096K(444112K), 0.0069440 secs] 1720.294: [GC 1720.294: [DefNew: 27728K->0K(31104K), 0.0343340 secs] 281808K->254080K(444112K), 0.0344910 secs] about 300 of them on a single request!!! Now, I don't totally understand why it's always GC'ng from ~28m down to 0 over and over.

Is my operating system maybe to old for Java 1.6? i'm not sure what i'm running exactly, and i can't find a list of what mac operating systems run what versions of Java because the java site just suggests using Mac's software update.

    Sofware: Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0_21 OS: Windows XP Professional 32-Bit, SP3 Situation: a new piece of web based software is being deployed this week and prior to this all the company desktops need to be set up to meet the requirements of this software. One of these requirements is JRE 1.6.0_21. I have successfully scripted the removal of all other Java versions and the installation of the required version, however I cannot get it configured properly. One of the requirements is that the Java console be set to disabled - if it is not it can cause an issue with a particular function. I have pushed out a deployment.config and deployment.properties but the console just will not disable itself.. I know the config is being read correctly because the update tab is being correctly disabled and removed. deployment.config: deployment.system.config=file\:C\:/WINDOWS/Sun/Java/Deployment/deployment.properties deployment.system.config.mandatory=true deployment.properties: #deployment.properties #Fri Jun 15 09:34:31 EST 2012 deployment.version=6.0 deployment.console.startup.mode=DISABLE deployment.javaws.autodownload=NEVER deployment.javaws.autodownload.locked= There is no change if I set the console to ENABLE either - it remains on the default of hidden. I'm sure I can disable the console with a registry change of some form but my preference is to have it done via the deployment files as it gives the option of centralising the properties file to a network share if we wish. If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

  • Java: compile and run hanging at command prompt

    I'm having an issue that I'm hoping someone can help with. I'm working on netbook running WinXP Pro SP3, 1.6GHz & 1GB of RAM. I've got a relatively simple java program that I'm able to successfully compile and run on other computers (both XP and Win7), so I suspect my code is working fine--I've verified that all computers are running the same version of Java (build 1.7.0_02-b13). For about the past week, I get maybe three or four compiles and runs at the command prompt (running CMD from within WinXp) before I hang with a blinking cursor after keying my command and pressing enter. If I shut down the command prompt window and restart it, I can compile and run the program just fine--again, pointing to an OS/environment issue rather than code. The only system change I've made in the past week is to uninstall a Lexmark printer that I ditched a year ago, and removing/reinstalling Java. Oh, and an automatic Windows update... :\ I've used this netbook successfully for programming classes for the past year and a half. Anyone familiar with this issue and know of some system tweaks to solve it? I suspect that memory may not be getting cleaned up when the java program quits...only when CMD closes, but don't know any tools to troubleshoot. Ideas?

I have two columns "Baseline Finish Date" and "Re-forecast Finish Date" and I would like to highlight the dates that for each task, is different in those columns. Meaning the tasks that suffered a re-forecast due to other circumstances, and does not equal to the original dates. I also would like a filter that does the same thing as above, showing only this different date tasks.

    Good advice from CommonWare and Steve H but it's not as easy to me as I first thought. Based on their advice I'm trying to copy android.R.layout to my project to ensure consistency. How do you do this? I looked in Eclipse's Package Explorer and under Android 1.5android.jarandroidR.classRlayout and find R$layout.class. Do I copy the code out of there into my own class?   • Subclipse does not recognize my project as an SVN project

    From SVN I checked out a "myproject" folder to my hard drive. It happens to be an Eclipse project, so I imported it into Eclipse and I can work on it. I have Subclipse installed and working as expected on other projects in the same Eclipse workspace. But for some reason, "myproject" does not have the usual Subclipse controls like TeamCommit or the decorations. Did I miss any obvious steps?

  • Project in Eclipse contains only a .project file

    I have several projects in Perforce that I need to maintain in Eclipse. I did a successful import the first time, but I've since removed all projects from the workspace and deleted the Perforce files from the P4 folder. I'm not very familiar with Perforce so I'm not sure why whenever I try to re-import those projects, all I get is a .project file instead of the whole package. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Want to learn/dive into Java Web Development—where to start?

    Hi folks, I want to dive into Java Web Development, but I don’t know where to start because I am overwhelmed with Frameworks, JSRs, modules and the like. Coming from a PHP and Ruby (on Rails) background, it may seem awkward to go the other way ’round—still there are a lot of places where Java is (and probably will be) prevalent. I know basic Java concepts, syntax and OOP, and I have done (too much) nonsense in existing projects in JSP. I am already using SVN and GIT, but like coding PHP and Ruby mostly via VIM, i’ve also done versioning from the command line. But this time I want to learn to build a new project from the ground up, in a more, let’s say, academic way (instead of the hackery to date). Looking at e. g. Eclipse frightens me. Then there is Struts, Spring, JPA, Hibernate, Seam, just to throw in some buzzwords, that I cannot put into clear relation to each other. Can you point me to some tutorials or books that could help me? What are the technologies you absolutely have to know, the JSRs that are widely implemented in the industry? Or, if you are an employer: What does a “Junior Java Web developer” have to know? Thanks for your suggestions!

  • iOS App Ideas for a graduation project

    I'm a CS student (BSc. degree) and it's my senior year so I'll need to do a mandatory graduation project. A friend and I just realized we are about to miss the project proposal submission deadline so we went out there researching... One of the professors (our future-project-supervisor) recommended us to team up and submit a single project with strong roots, as our only chance to fit-in this semester's quota. (we were already pretty late to consult him and most supervisors are almost at their full-quota). Anyway, his research area mainly focuses on image processing, virtual reality, computer vision/graphics so he went ahead and recommended us to find some project ideas that would work as an iPhone app. Thing is, we have no development experience on Macs but have plenty of Java, C#, C and Ruby experience... I am looking for interesting iPhone app ideas that would be appropriate as a graduation project. Go ahead and fire away your ideas and comments, they are much appreciated.

  • quick approach to migrate classic asp project to asp.net

    Recently we got a requirement for converting a classic asp project to asp.net. This one is really a very old project created around 2002/2003. It consists of around 50 asp pages. I found very little documentation for this project, FSD and design documents for only a few modules. Just giving a quick look into this project my head start to hurt. It is really a mess. I checked the records and found none of the developers who worked on this project work for the company anymore. My real pain is that this is an urgent requirement and I have to provide an estimated deadline to my supervisor. I found a similar question classic-asp-to-asp-net, but I need some more insight on how to convert this classic asp project to asp.net in the quickest possible way.
