  • Solaris syslog.conf. What are root and operator?

    - by cjavapro
    In /etc/syslog.conf #ident "@(#)syslog.conf 1.5 98/12/14 SMI" /* SunOS 5.0 */ # # Copyright (c) 1991-1998 by Sun Microsystems, Inc. # All rights reserved. # # syslog configuration file. # # This file is processed by m4 so be careful to quote (`') names # that match m4 reserved words. Also, within ifdef's, arguments # containing commas must be quoted. # *.err;kern.notice;auth.notice /dev/sysmsg *.err;kern.debug;daemon.notice;mail.crit /var/adm/messages *.alert;kern.err;daemon.err operator *.alert root *.emerg * # if a non-loghost machine chooses to have authentication messages # sent to the loghost machine, un-comment out the following line: #auth.notice ifdef(`LOGHOST', /var/log/authlog, @loghost) mail.debug ifdef(`LOGHOST', /var/log/syslog, @loghost) # # non-loghost machines will use the following lines to cause "user" # log messages to be logged locally. # ifdef(`LOGHOST', , user.err /dev/sysmsg user.err /var/adm/messages user.alert `root, operator' user.emerg * ) I googled some and it seems that root and operator mean email to root and to operator. Is this correct?

  • installing SQLite3 gem on remote FreeBSD server using RVM - root permissions needed?

    - by atmosx
    I am trying to install ruby SQLite3 gem, on a remote freebsd server. I'm using RVM which in theory does not need 'root permission' to compile gems but I get a root error, here: [user ~]$ gem install sqlite3 -- --with-sqlite3-dir=/home/www/atma/opt/ [...] make install /usr/bin/install -c -o root -g wheel -m 0755 sqlite3_native.so /home/www/atma/.gems/gems/sqlite3-1.3.6/lib/sqlite3 install: /home/www/atma/.gems/gems/sqlite3-1.3.6/lib/sqlite3/sqlite3_native.so: chown/chgrp: Operation not permitted make: * [/home/www/atma/.gems/gems/sqlite3-1.3.6/lib/sqlite3/sqlite3_native.so] Error 71 Gem files will remain installed in /home/www/atma/.gems/gems/sqlite3-1.3.6 for inspection. Results logged to /home/www/atma/.gems/gems/sqlite3-1.3.6/ext/sqlite3/gem_make.out Any ideas how to approach this? Maybe re-installing RVM? best regards, PA

  • Change ownership of directory and all contents to a new user from root.

    - by Andrew Fashion
    I created a website under /var/www/html/ all under root, all images, files, .htacess, directories, etc... I uploaded and configured everything as root. I want to make it it's own username/password so it's not owned by root. I currently do not have the user account made either, I want to also setup FTP for the user account. There is also about 30GB of images in the folder as well. How can I go about changing all of this? I am running CentOS 5.5 64 bit. Thank you!

  • ADT-like polymorphism in Java (without altering class)

    - by ffriend
    In Haskell I can define following data type: data Tree = Empty | Leaf Int | Node Tree Tree and then write polymorphic function like this: depth :: Tree -> Int depth Empty = 0 depth (Leaf n) = 1 depth (Node l r) = 1 + max (depth l) (depth r) In Java I can emulate algebraic data types with interfaces: interface Tree {} class Empty implements Tree {} class Leaf implements Tree { int n; } class Node implements Tree { Tree l; Tree r; } But if I try to use Haskell-like polymorphism, I get an error: int depth(Empty node) { return 0; } int depth(Leaf node) { return 1; } int depth(Node node) { return 1 + Math.max(depth(node.l), depth(node.r)); // ERROR: Cannot resolve method 'depth(Tree)' } Correct way to overcome this is to put method depth() to each class. But what if I don't want to put it there? For example, method depth() may be not directly related to Tree and adding it to class would break business logic. Or, even worse, Tree may be written in 3rd party library that I don't have access to. In this case, what is the simplest way to implement ADT-like polymorpism? Just in case, for the moment I'm using following syntax, which is obviously ill-favored: int depth(Tree tree) { if (tree instanceof Empty) depth((Empty)tree) if (tree instanceof Leaf) depth((Leaf)tree); if (tree instanceof Node) depth((Node)tree); else throw new RuntimeException("Don't know how to find depth of " + tree.getClass()); }

  • Loop XML including all its children using xpath and SimpleXMLElement

    - by Andersson
    Im having a big xml tree with a simple structure. All I want to do is get a node by its attribute using xpath and loop the children. param1 - correct language param1 & param3 - correct node by its id and the parents id. (Need to use parent id when multiplie id appears. The id is not declared as id in DTD) public function getSubmenuNodesRe($language, $id1,$id2) { $result = $this->xml->xpath("//*[@language='$language']//*[@id='$id1']//menuitem[@id='$id2']/*"); return $result; } This works well, I get the node Im expecting. I having no problems looping the array returned by the xpath query. But when i try to loop childnodes all attributes are gone and many of the methods also. Except getName(). function printNodeName($node) { echo $node->getName(). " - \"" . $node['id']. "\"<br>"; if($node->children()->getName() == "menuitem") { $s = $node->children(); printNodeName($s); } } $result = $xmlNode->getSubmenuNodesRe($_GET['language'], 'foo','bar'); if ($result) { while(list( , $node) = each($result)) { if ($node->getName() == "menuitem") { printNodeName($node); } } } Why is that? only the name will be printed for the $s. Really need help to solve this one, any assistance is deeply appreciated! Thanks for your time.

  • How do I loop through elements inside a div?

    - by crosenblum
    I have to make a custom function for search/replace text, because firefox counts text nodes differently than IE, Google Chrome, etc.. I am trying to use this code, that I saw at Firefox WhiteSpace Issue since in my other function, I am looping numerically through nodes, which serves my functional needs perfectly, in other browsers. But refuses to work, as part of a search/replace function that takes place after some ajax content is loaded. Here is the code, that I have tried to get to work, but I must be missing the correct understanding of the context of how to loop thru elements inside a div. // get all childnodes inside div function div_translate(divid) { // list child nodes of parent if (divid != null) { // var children = parent.childNodes, child; var parentNode = divid; // start loop thru child nodes for(var node=parentNode.firstChild;node!=null;node=node.nextSibling){ // begin check nodeType if(node.nodeType == 1){ // get value of this node var value = content(node); // get class of this node var myclass = node.attr('class'); console.log(myclass); // begin check if value undefined if (typeof(value) != 'undefined' && value != null) { console.log(value); // it is a text node. do magic. for (var x = en_count; x > 0; x--) { // get current english phrase var from = en_lang[x]; // get current other language phrase var to = other_lang[x]; if (value.match(from)) { content(node, value.replace(from, to)); } } } // end check if value undefined } // end check nodeType } // end loop thru child nodes } }

  • Rotate a linked list

    I want to rotate a linked list that contains a number. 123 should be rotated to 231. The function created 23 but the last character stays empty, why? typedef struct node node; struct node{ char digit; node* p; }; void rotate(node** head){ node* walk= (*head); node* prev= (*head); char temp= walk->digit; while(walk->p!=NULL){ walk->digit=walk->p->digit; walk= walk->p; } walk->digit=temp; } How I create the list: node* convert_to_list(int num){ node * curr, * head; int i=0,length=0; char *arr=NULL; head = NULL; length =(int) log10(((double) num))+1; arr =(char*) malloc((length)*sizeof(char)); //allocate memory sprintf (arr, "%d" ,num); //(num, buf, 10); for(i=length;i>=0;i--) { curr = (node *)malloc(sizeof(node)); (curr)->digit = arr[i]; (curr)->p = head; head = curr; } curr = head; return curr; }

  • Suspending my laptop breaks ethernet over firewire, are there commands which can fix it?

    - by Josh
    As mentioned in this question I am using a firewire cable to provide a private network between my laptop and my desktop, because it makes using the screen sharing program synergy much nicer than using WIFI. However when I leave my office for the day and I suspend my laptop, when I return the next day, the desktop and the laptop cannot communicate over firewire anymore. The firewire0 device still has an IP address. but when I try and ping the desktop I get no route to host I'm using kernel 2.6.35-24-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 on Ubuntu 10.10. Is there some way I can remedy this without a reboot? Like, removing some kernel modules and re-inserting them? • USB mass storage couldn't get mounted

    - by revo
    It's my android phone SD card which was indicated damaged by android yesterday night, out of the blue! I put it directly to a USB port with a USB SD card holder case, so in that way I can recover it with TestDisk, which I had experienced before on a similar situation. I also noticed that there is a change in file system and capacity: File System : RAW Capacity : 0 (unknown capacity) Also TestDisk doesn't show it on its partitions list. A 2 GB SD card is not that important in price but I've a lot of files and medias which I need them. Used a mini card reader, TestDisk displayed it on its list but a quick search and or a deep search doesn't have any results No partition found or selected for recovery and then I should quit the program. • Samba new file ownership, permissions configuration

    - by Martin Melka
    I have recently installed Samba on my server. Now I have a question about permissions and how to set it up. Currently I mount the Samba shared drive to my laptop with this line in /etc/fstab: //<host>/share /mnt/melka-server-data/ cifs username=<usrname> password=<passwd> _netdev 0 0 This works, as I can read from the files and create them (as root). The problem is when I want to create files as a regular user. I always get a Permission Denied error. These are ll outputs of the mounted folder: magicmaster@magicmaster-kubuntu:/mnt$ ll total 8 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 lis 11 14:15 ./ drwxr-xr-x 26 root root 4096 ríj 26 11:01 ../ drwxrwxrwx 8 magicmaster magicmaster 0 lis 12 22:12 melka-server-data/ and the inside: magicmaster@magicmaster-kubuntu:/mnt/melka-server-data$ ll total 4 drwxrwxrwx 8 magicmaster magicmaster 0 lis 12 22:12 ./ drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 lis 11 14:15 ../ drwxrwxrwx 5 magicmaster magicmaster 0 lis 12 09:35 downloads/ drwxrwxrwx 2 magicmaster magicmaster 0 ríj 28 12:57 lost+found/ drwxrwxrwx 15 magicmaster magicmaster 0 lis 12 09:45 movies/ drwxrwxrwx 2 magicmaster magicmaster 0 lis 1 21:15 newest/ drwxrwxrwx 3 magicmaster magicmaster 0 lis 2 23:14 photos/ drwxrwxrwx 2 magicmaster magicmaster 0 ríj 30 12:44 software/ -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nogroup 0 lis 12 22:12 zdar I called sudo chown -R magicmaster:magicmaster melka-server-data/ to try and change all the files to belong to me. Then the file zdar was created by magicmaster just by calling touch. I got the Permission Denied, but it was still created, though it belongs to nobody and I can't write into it. When I create a file as root, it still belongs to nobody, but at least I can write into it. What am I missing? I didn't notice anything in Samba config that would be related to this and I don't like the idea of having to log on as root in order to copy files.. Thanks

  • DVD wont mount Ubuntu 12.04

    - by CyborgGold
    I can't seem to be able to mount my optical drive. I have tried numerous solutions from this site with no results. I am not able to see the device inside the file browser either. There is a DVD in the drive. I am running 12.04 on an HP g60-235dx portable. I have a link below to the specs. I will also list what I have tried (that I can find back right now.) I know the drive is functioning, because just before Windows 7 crashed and my MBR went fubar I was watching movies just fine. I am fairly new to linux, so don't assume I know anything. Ok, so here is what I have tried: sudo wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list sudo apt-get --quiet update sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring sudo apt-get --quiet update sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2 dmesg | grep sr0 (no output) apt-get install libdvdnav4 (already installed, and up to date) sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh ls -l /dev/cdrom /dev/cdrw /dev/dvd /dev/dvdrw /dev/scd0 /dev/sr0 ls: cannot access /dev/scd0: No such file or directory lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 Sep 10 03:51 /dev/cdrom -> sr0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 Sep 10 03:51 /dev/cdrw -> sr0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 Sep 10 03:51 /dev/dvd -> sr0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 Sep 10 03:51 /dev/dvdrw -> sr0 brw-rw----+ 1 root cdrom 11, 0 Sep 10 03:51 /dev/sr0 wodim --devices wodim: Overview of accessible drives (1 found) : ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0 dev='/dev/sg1' rwrw-- : 'TSSTcorp' 'CDDVDW TS-L633M' ------------------------------------------------------------------------- sudo lshw optical *-cdrom description: DVD-RAM writer product: CDDVDW TS-L633M vendor: TSSTcorp physical id: 1 bus info: scsi@1:0.0.0 logical name: /dev/cdrom logical name: /dev/cdrw logical name: /dev/dvd logical name: /dev/dvdrw logical name: /dev/sr0 version: 0200 capabilities: removable audio cd-r cd-rw dvd dvd-r dvd-ram configuration: ansiversion=5 status=nodisc sudo lshw | grep cdrom *-cdrom logical name: /dev/cdrom Spec sheet for portable: http://www.cnet.com/laptops/hp-g60-235dx/4507-3121_7-33496192.html If you need any more information than all of that... please let me know.

  • Binary Search Tree Implementation

    - by Gabe
    I've searched the forum, and tried to implement the code in the threads I found. But I've been working on this real simple program since about 10am, and can't solve the seg. faults for the life of me. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong would be greatly appreciated. • how to adjust the size of the root partition on live arch linux system (/dev/mapper/arch_root-image)

    - by leon
    Summary: I created a bootable usb drive with a live Bridge linux (ARCH based) on it. Everything works fine. The live system mounts a device called /dev/mapper/arch_root-image as its ext4 root partition (/ mount point). The problem is that I dont know how to control the size of this partition. This is not a Bridge specific issue (also happens with Archbang) Detail: My usb drive has a dos partition table with 2 ext2 partitions $ fdisk -l /dev/sdb Disk /dev/sdb: 29,8 GiB, 32006733824 bytes, 62513152 sectors Unités : secteur de 1 × 512 = 512 octets Taille de secteur (logique / physique) : 512 octets / 512 octets taille d'E/S (minimale / optimale) : 512 octets / 512 octets Type d'étiquette de disque : dos Identifiant de disque : 0x0007b7e2 Périphérique Amorçage Début Fin Blocs Id Système /dev/sdb1 * 2048 2002943 1000448 83 Linux /dev/sdb2 2002944 32258047 15127552 83 Linux sdb1 is approx 1GB and sdb2 is 14GB. The live system is on sdb1. sdb2 is empty. Now when I boot the live system, its filesystem looks like this: $ mount proc on /proc type proc (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime) sys on /sys type sysfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime) dev on /dev type devtmpfs (rw,nosuid,relatime,size=505272k,nr_inodes=126318,mode=755) run on /run type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,mode=755) /dev/sda1 on /run/archiso/bootmnt type ext2 (ro,relatime) cowspace on /run/archiso/cowspace type tmpfs (rw,relatime,size=772468k,mode=755) /dev/loop0 on /run/archiso/sfs/root-image type squashfs (ro,relatime) /dev/mapper/arch_root-image on / type ext4 (rw,relatime) securityfs on /sys/kernel/security type securityfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime) tmpfs on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev) devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,nosuid,noexec,relatime,gid=5,mode=620,ptmxmode=000) tmpfs on /sys/fs/cgroup type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,mode=755) cgroup on /sys/fs/cgroup/systemd type cgroup (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,xattr,release_agent=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd-cgroups-agent,name=systemd) pstore on /sys/fs/pstore type pstore (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime) cgroup on /sys/fs/cgroup/cpuset type cgroup (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,cpuset) cgroup on /sys/fs/cgroup/cpu,cpuacct type cgroup (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,cpuacct,cpu) cgroup on /sys/fs/cgroup/memory type cgroup (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,memory) cgroup on /sys/fs/cgroup/devices type cgroup (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,devices) cgroup on /sys/fs/cgroup/freezer type cgroup (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,freezer) cgroup on /sys/fs/cgroup/net_cls type cgroup (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,net_cls) cgroup on /sys/fs/cgroup/blkio type cgroup (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,blkio) mqueue on /dev/mqueue type mqueue (rw,relatime) debugfs on /sys/kernel/debug type debugfs (rw,relatime) hugetlbfs on /dev/hugepages type hugetlbfs (rw,relatime) configfs on /sys/kernel/config type configfs (rw,relatime) systemd-1 on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type autofs (rw,relatime,fd=36,pgrp=1,timeout=300,minproto=5,maxproto=5,direct) tmpfs on /tmp type tmpfs (rw) tmpfs on /etc/pacman.d/gnupg type tmpfs (rw,relatime,mode=755) As we can see, the root partition is from the device /dev/mapper/arch_root-image and my problem is that the live system recognizes it as a 3.9GB drive $ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/arch_root-image 3.9G 1.9G 2.1G 48% / dev 494M 0 494M 0% /dev run 503M 23M 481M 5% /run /dev/sda1 962M 590M 324M 65% /run/archiso/bootmnt cowspace 755M 32M 723M 5% /run/archiso/cowspace /dev/loop0 520M 520M 0 100% /run/archiso/sfs/root-image tmpfs 503M 132K 503M 1% /dev/shm tmpfs 503M 0 503M 0% /sys/fs/cgroup tmpfs 503M 360K 503M 1% /tmp tmpfs 503M 896K 503M 1% /etc/pacman.d/gnupg My question is how is this size controled? I suspect this is related to the content of the aitab file which is part of the Bridge iso image: $ cat aitab # <img> <mnt> <arch> <sfs_comp> <fs_type> <fs_size> root-image / i686 xz ext4 50% I have read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/archiso#aitab but found no clue

  • replace XmlSlurper tag with arbitrary XML

    - by Misha Koshelev
    Dear All: I am trying to replace specific XmlSlurper tags with arbitrary XML strings. The best way I have managed to come up with to do this is: #!/usr/bin/env groovy import groovy.xml.StreamingMarkupBuilder def page=new XmlSlurper(new org.cyberneko.html.parsers.SAXParser()).parseText(""" <html> <head></head> <body> <one attr1='val1'>asdf</one> <two /> <replacemewithxml /> </body> </html> """.trim()) import groovy.xml.XmlUtil def closure closure={ bind,node-> if (node.name()=="REPLACEMEWITHXML") { bind.mkp.yieldUnescaped "<replacementxml>sometext</replacementxml>" } else { bind."${node.name()}"(node.attributes()) { mkp.yield node.text() node.children().each { child-> closure(bind,child) } } } } println XmlUtil.serialize( new StreamingMarkupBuilder().bind { bind-> closure(bind,page) } ) However, the only problem is the text() element seems to capture all child text nodes, and thus I get: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <HTML>asdf<HEAD/> <BODY>asdf<ONE attr1="val1">asdf</ONE> <TWO/> <replacementxml>sometext</replacementxml> </BODY> </HTML> Any ideas/help much appreciated. Thank you! Misha p.s. Also, out of curiosity, if I change the above to the "Groovier" notation as follows, the groovy compiler thinks I am trying to access the ${node.name()} member of my test class. Is there a way to specify this is not the case while still not passing the actual builder object? Thank you! :) def closure closure={ node-> if (node.name()=="REPLACEMEWITHXML") { mkp.yieldUnescaped "<replacementxml>sometext</replacementxml>" } else { "${node.name()}"(node.attributes()) { mkp.yield node.text() node.children().each { child-> closure(child) } } } } println XmlUtil.serialize( new StreamingMarkupBuilder().bind { closure(page) } )

  • Idiomatic use of auto_ptr to transfer ownership to a container

    - by heycam
    I'm refreshing my C++ knowledge after not having used it in anger for a number of years. In writing some code to implement some data structure for practice, I wanted to make sure that my code was exception safe. So I've tried to use std::auto_ptrs in what I think is an appropriate way. Simplifying somewhat, this is what I have: class Tree { public: ~Tree() { /* delete all Node*s in the tree */ } void insert(const string& to_insert); ... private: struct Node { ... vector<Node*> m_children; }; Node* m_root; }; template<T> void push_back(vector<T*>& v, auto_ptr<T> x) { v.push_back(x.get()); x.release(); } void Tree::insert(const string& to_insert) { Node* n = ...; // find where to insert the new node ... push_back(n->m_children, auto_ptr<Node>(new Node(to_insert)); ... } So I'm wrapping the function that would put the pointer into the container, vector::push_back, and relying on the by-value auto_ptr argument to ensure that the Node* is deleted if the vector resize fails. Is this an idiomatic use of auto_ptr to save a bit of boilerplate in my Tree::insert? Any improvements you can suggest? Otherwise I'd have to have something like: Node* n = ...; // find where to insert the new node auto_ptr<Node> new_node(new Node(to_insert)); n->m_children.push_back(new_node.get()); new_node.release(); which kind of clutters up what would have been a single line of code if I wasn't worrying about exception safety and a memory leak. (Actually I was wondering if I could post my whole code sample (about 300 lines) and ask people to critique it for idiomatic C++ usage in general, but I'm not sure whether that kind of question is appropriate on stackoverflow.)

  • How to install VMware tools for Ubuntu 11.04 hosted on VMware ESXi?

    - by Dmitri Toubelis
    I'm running Vmware ESX 4.1 and I have a development VM that I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 11.04. Then I tried to re-install VMware Tools and some of the modules gave me an error and would not compile. As a result I'm having problems with backing up this virtual machine now and I suspect VMware tools is the reason. I installed latest patches for VMware host, that included an update to VMware Tools (v8.3.7 build-381511) but I'm still getting the same error. The error I'm getting is like this: ... /tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmhgfs-only/super.c:73:4: error: unknown field \u2018clear_inode\u2019 specified in initializer make[2]: *** [/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmhgfs-only/super.o] Error 1 make[1]: *** [_module_/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmhgfs-only] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.38-8-generic' make: *** [vmhgfs.ko] Error 2 make: Leaving directory `/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmhgfs-only' and also this: /tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmci-only/vmci_drv.c:91:4: error: unknown field \u2018ioctl\u2019 specified in initializer /tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmci-only/vmci_drv.c:91:4: warning: initialization from incompatible pointer type /tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmci-only/vmci_drv.c: In function \u2018vmci_init\u2019: /tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmci-only/vmci_drv.c:151:4: error: implicit declaration of function \u2018init_MUTEX\u2019 make[2]: *** [/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmci-only/vmci_drv.o] Error 1 make[1]: *** [_module_/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmci-only] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.38-8-generic' make: *** [vmci.ko] Error 2 make: Leaving directory `/tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmci-only' Any ideas?

  • How do I install OpenStack on a single Ubuntu 12.04 node?

    - by Sam Edwards
    I'm having trouble installing OpenStack in Ubuntu 12.04, for various reasons: The official Ubuntu website recommends Juju and MAAS. However, this is a single node I am trying to get OpenStack installed on, and MAAS requires "two or more nodes" according to the docs. Additionally, I don't have any experience in MAAS and Juju and would rather stick to technologies I am more familiar with so that I can debug problems that arise. I have tried StackGeek but this fails because the node only has a single Ethernet port. The node does, however, have the second hard drive required for the nova storage. I have tried DevStack but cannot log into the dashboard. The login form appears fine, but as soon as I try to submit the page, my browser begins loading indefinitely. I have tried installing straight from packages, but I get an Internal Server Error in the dashboard upon trying to log in, with no helpful logs anywhere in sight to aid me in debugging the issue. Each of these attempts was with a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 LTS setup; I'm finding it really strange that no matter what I try, I cannot get OpenStack installed. Is this even a stable/mature project? Why am I encountering so many bugs?

  • duplicity fail: not promping for password: "Running 'sftp user@host' failed"

    - by Thr4wn
    I have two linode VPS accounts and I want to back up one onto the other (the reasons are mainly for fun and to practice server administration.) the short version Duplicity isn't even asking for my password, but immediately says "invalid SSH password" (but I can ssh into the other server). why? the long version When I run duplicity /home/me scp://[email protected]//root/backup I get Invalid SSH password Running 'sftp [email protected]' failed (attempt #1) Invalid SSH password Running 'sftp [email protected]' failed (attempt #2) Invalid SSH password Running 'sftp [email protected]' failed (attempt #3) And it says Invalid SSH password immediately with no opportunity for me to actually type the password. When I type duplicity full -v9 --num-retries 4 /home/me scp://[email protected]//root/backup I get Main action: full Running 'sftp [email protected]' (attempt #1) State = sftp, Before = 'Connecting to 97.107.129.67... [email protected]'s' State = sftp, Before = '' Invalid SSH password Running 'sftp [email protected]' failed (attempt #1) I can ssh into [email protected] fine, and in fact have the ip in known_hosts before I tried any of this. serer 1 (from which I'm running the duplicity command) is Linode's default Ubuntu 8 setup with only a handful of programs installed via apt-get. server 2 (represented by x.x.x.x) is literally only Linode's default Ubuntu 8 setup I previously tried using SystemImager -- would that have changed settings in a destructive way? (I have removed and rebooted since then) Isn't Duplicity supposed to prompt for password? Am I using it wrong? are there common mistakes/dependencies I need to know about? Is there any way that x.x.x.x could be setup that could make this not work (I used Linode's default Ubuntu 8 setup and barely )?

  • Identifying Httpd error log in Fedora 16

    - by Cerin
    How do you find the cause of httpd errors in Fedora 16? The new systemctl command in Fedora 16 seems to horribly obscure any useful logging info. [root@host ~]# systemctl start httpd.service Job failed. See system logs and 'systemctl status' for details. [root@host ~]# systemctl status httpd.service httpd.service - The Apache HTTP Server (prefork MPM) Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/httpd.service; enabled) Active: failed since Thu, 21 Jun 2012 16:26:56 -0400; 1min 23s ago Process: 2119 ExecStop=/usr/sbin/httpd $OPTIONS -k stop (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Process: 2215 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/httpd $OPTIONS -k start (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE) Main PID: 1062 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) CGroup: name=systemd:/system/httpd.service So the first command fails...and it tells me to run another command...which simply tells me that the command returned an error code. Where's the actual error? Even more frustrating is nothing seems to have been written to the logs: [root@host ~]# ls -lah /var/log/httpd/ total 8.0K drwx------. 2 root root 4.0K Jun 21 16:19 . drwxr-xr-x. 21 root root 4.0K Jun 20 16:33 .. -rw-r----- 1 root root 0 Jun 21 16:19 modsec_audit.log -rw-r----- 1 root root 0 Jun 21 16:19 modsec_debug.log

  • Either, nginx+php-fpm bad config or nginx+php-fpm cannot handle high query?

    - by The Wolf
    I have wordpress installed in my server configured(hopefully with nginx+php-fpm+mariaDB). I am trying to import using wordpress importer a 1.5MB xml file. Everytime I try to upload it using the importer, it got cut of... meaning just blank screen result.. Here is my error log: actually I just posted 2 of the errors [error] 858#0: *1 connect() failed (111: Connection refused) while connecting to upstream, client: xx.xxx.xx.xx, server: xxx.com, request: "GET xxxx.html HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9000", host: "xxx.com" [error] 858#0: *13 connect() failed (111: Connection refused) while connecting to upstream, client: xxx.x.xx.xx, server: xxx.com, request: "GET xxxx.php HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9000", host: "xxx.com" I don't know what is the reason why it can't process the wordpress export .xml. I already increased max_file_upload & etc., but nothing happens. Hope somebody can help me.
