• How can I refactor this to use an inline function or template instead of a macro?

If I just replace this with a function taking a const wchar_t[], then the sizeof() will fail to deliver expected results. Simply adding a size member doesn't really solve the problem either. Making the user supply the size of the constant literal also results in a mess of duplicated constants at the call site. Any ideas on this one?

  I have a Plone site that has a lot of data in it and I would like to query the database for usage statistics; ie How many cals with more than 1 entries, how many blogs per group with entries after a given date, etc. I want to run the script from the command line... something like so: bin/instance [script name] I've been googling for a while now but can't find out how to do this. Also, can anybody provide some help on how to get user specific information. Information like, last logged in, items created. Thanks! Eric

  I was thinking of implementing real time chat using a PHP backend, but I ran across this comment on a site discussing comet: My understanding is that PHP is a terrible language for Comet, because Comet requires you to keep a persistent connection open to each browser client. Using mod_php this means tying up an Apache child full-time for each client which doesn’t scale at all. The people I know doing Comet stuff are mostly using Twisted Python which is designed to handle hundreds or thousands of simultaneous connections. Is this true? Or is it something that can be configured around?

  Hey guys, I'm trying to find a way to use the original Apple system buttons and icons in a web site. Is there a way to get these original graphics in png format? There are not-so-nice ways to obtain them of course. Two I was thinking of: Save them from this link, then convert to png. Take screen captures on the iPhone itself, and cut the icons from the saved images. Is anyone aware of a nicer way to obtain the original graphics? Does anyone know where they are stored on the Mac? • Dreamweaver - template not recognising child files until they are opened

  Hi I've got a new section for a website which I have generated for a data source and it has markup for using a Dreamweaver template. When I add the new files and folders to the site , then update my template , it doesn't find the new files to update. If I open one of the new files , make a change in the template , then it recognises the new file is using the template. So it's almost like I have to touch all the files with Dreamweaver first. I've tried to open all the new files which need to use the template but then Dreamweaver CS4 crashes, I presume because of the number of files it's opening. Anyway, does anyone know if there is a way to make Dreamweaver recognise that a block of new files belong to the template , it doesn't seem to just work automatically Thanks Chris

• Can you let users upload Sinatra apps and run them inside Rails as middleware?

  I want to let users write small custom apps (think themes or plugins on Wordpress) and upload/run them on my site. I'm thinking about using Sinatra apps for this since it would give the users a lot of flexibility, and then running them as middleware inside my rails app. But I can't figure out the security implications of this. I tried creating a simple sinatra app as middleware, and it has access to all the rails models and everything - so that is bad. Is there a way for rack to keep these separate so that the sinatra apps are effectively sandboxed and can't do any bad things (outside of an API or some specific way I setup for them to communicate)? There may be an easier way to accomplish this that I haven't thought of too, so ideas welcome. Thanks!

• Implementing full text search on iPhone?

  I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to implement a full-text search on some static data on the iPhone. Basically I have an app that contains the offline version of a web site, about 50MB of text, and I'd like for users to be able to search for terms. I figure that I should somehow build an table of ("word", reference_to_file_containing_word) or something, put that into either Core Data or just sqlite, index the "word" column, then have the search facility search the table for search terms and take the intersection of the sets of results for the terms or something. That wouldn't allow people to search for phrases but it would be pretty easy and probably not too slow. I'd like to just use existing SDK features for this. Should I use Core Data or sqlite? Does anyone have any other ideas on how this could be done?

• Ctrl+Click / Command+Click not working with analytics

  Hi All, I created my own analytics for my site to track outbound click events using jquery. Now the thing with preventDefault() is that it does not allow for the Ctrl+Click or COmmand+click operation in the browser to open the link in new tab/window. So my solution was to detect e.metaKey || e.ctrlKey and use window.open. This does not work very great with safari unless the user changes browser behavior. I am wondering if anyone here knows what other analytics users do - like how does google etc deal with this problem in tracking outbound links? • Firefox adds <br> when paste from Word in TinyMCE

  I'm currently using TinyMCE 3.3 on a drupal site, with an annoying problem. Using both "paste from word"-button or "Force cleanup on paste" in Firefox cause TinyMCE to insert line-breaks in my paragraphs where the line would have ended in Word. In IE, I do not have this problem. When viewing the source code in the editor, it doesn't show a -tag, but an actual line-break. When viewing the normal text in the editor, I see no linebreak at all, but on saving, it's really there when viewing the page. Even in the beginning of every first line of every paragraph it insert a linebreak. How do I solve this?? "Remove linebreaks" isn't an option, since people want to insert linebreaks to create some vertical spacing.

• Filesystem synchronization library?

  Hi, I've got 10 GB of files to back up daily to another site. The client is way out in the country so bandwidth is an issue. Does anyone know of any existing software or libraries out there that help with keeping a folder with its files synchronized across a slow link, that is it only sends files across if they have changed? Some kind of hash checking would be nice, too, to at least confirm the two sides are the same. I don't mind paying some money for it, seeing as how it might take me several weeks to a month to implement something decent on my own. I just don't want to re-invent the wheel, here. BTW it is a windows shop (they have an in house windows IT guy) so windows is preferred. I also have 10 GB of SQL Server 2000 databases to go across. Is the SQL server replication mode reliable? What are the best options for real freelancing or small business built around development skills? (I am only looking for local clients, odesk etc is not interesting) Most options open for small companies are web sites. But most clients don't want to pay much, and there are lots of people that are willing to do it for very little money. Think if you want to do money that way you must be a "web site" business. Think the best option should be to work for companies spending a lot of resources on web and db? How could I get in touch with them? Other ideas? Part of my concept is to use some off-shoring to complement my skillset, so i should be able to do PHP or Drupal even if I am not at expert level.

We want to implement a site search, allowing visitors to enter terms and return relating records. A user might search for: Dinosaurs And the SQL: WHERE articleBody LIKE '%Dinosaurs%' Copes fine with returning the correct set of records. How would we cope however, if a user mispells dinosaurs? IE: Dinosores (Poor sore dino). How can we search allowing for error in spelling? We can associate common misspellings we see in search with the correct spelling, and then search on the original terms + corrected term, but this is time consuming to maintain. Any way programatically?

  Hi, i have a .net mobile web site where i use sesion state and due to nature of mobile networks/phones (not all supports session cookies) i had to use <sessionState cookieless="AutoDetect"/> It works fine but because each new session redirected with "AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1" i have a feeling that google won't like this. Here is a small sample from my server logs supportForumReadTopic.aspx id=38 80 - 66.249.71.80 Mozilla/5.0+(compatible;+Googlebot/2.1;++http://www.google.com/bot.html) 302 supportForumReadTopic.aspx id=38&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 Mozilla/5.0+(compatible;+Googlebot/2.1;++http://www.google.com/bot.html) 200 As you see each new hit from google will get 302 to itself. I have a genericmozilla5.browser file where i define google bot as cookie supporting browser in order to get .net not to use cookieless urls but not sure how this 302 would effect me.   Hello...I am new to PHP (never really used it before tonight) and I need to use a PHP script to read the contents of a file on my website (http://kylemills.net/Geocaching/BadgeGen/MacroFiles/BadgeGenBeta.gsk) and then take some specific varying data and output it. For example: If my file contains the text: random text Here is some text #There is some text here too $Version = "V2.2.23 Beta" random text #some more text $Text="some text" If the above was the contents of my file, I need the script to return "V2.2.23 Beta" (without quotes). The idea is that as I update the file, the version changes and I want this to be reflected across my site. • CSS - how can I handle the size difference between serif and sans-serif fonts?

  I'm working on a WordPress that will allow the site administrator to switch between sans-serif and serif fonts. I'm trying to code the stylesheet in such a way that the font sizes are similar whether or not they choose Georgia vs Arial. The problem is that when I have it looking nice with a serif font, it looks WAY too big when in sans-serif. When I then adjust it to look nice in a sans-serif font, it looks WAY too small in serif. Is there an ideal font size and line-height that works well with both serif and sans-serif? Or do I need to make separate stylesheets (a serf version and a sans-serif version)? P.S. I've set a base font size on the body at 12px, and then set the rest of the font sizes as a percentage of the base. Of course, this base font size could be set in ems or in percent, because the percentages will still scale proportionally.

  I've got mailings that need to be sended using cron. When I load the script manualy all works fine. With cron i get broken images. to change the src of my img i used: $body = eregi_replace("managersrc_logo","images/managers/acertainlogo.jpg",$body); Because i thaught that it is importent to use absolute paths i also tried: $body = eregi_replace("managersrc_logo","http://www.site.com/images/managers/acertainlogo.jpg",$body); In that case i even do not see the images when i run the cronscript manualy. Nor the automated cron will display me the images. When i check the source of the mail that is received i always see "cid:encryptedstuff" even if i use absolute paths? Why is that? I just want my absolute paths being printed in the src attribute of the img tag. Who changes my absolute path to cid: ? is it php, phpmailer or outlook itself? Any help someone?.... David

  There is a conflict with the ShareThis script and another script I have on my site. I've set up a test example here: http://jbrlsr.com/help.html to reproduce the issue, use FireFox and mouseover a few of the links, you'll notice "Transferring Data From" in the status bar area. To clear that message click on the ShareThis icon. There is one post I've found on the ShareThis Forums: forums.sharethis.com/topic.php?id=2415#post-4199 but no resolution. If you can pinpoint the issue and suggest a realistic/workable resolution I will PayPal you $100.
