  • ScrollBall press events while screen is off on an Android device.

    - by stolksdorf
I'm writing a quick music player for myself on my Nexus One and really want to add the feature of being able to switch to the next song without removing it from it's case, ie. by pressing the scrollball through the sleeve. I've scoured many resources and... Haven't found a decently easy way to listen to key press events while the screen is off. Can't seem to even get scrollball press events to work. I've tried using a broadcastreciever listening for the Dpad_center intent, but it doesn't seem to function properly. I'm not looking for someone to write the code for me, but if you have successfully done either of these things, any insight on techniques or resources would be amazing. Thanks in advance!

  • Android map performance with > 800 overlays of KML data

    - by span
I have some a shape file which I have converted to a KML file that I wish to read coordinates from and then draw paths between the coordinates on a MapView. With the help of this great post: How to draw a path on a map using kml file? I have been able to read the the KML into an ArrayList of "Placemarks". This great blog post then showed how to take a list of GeoPoints and draw a path: http://djsolid.net/blog/android---draw-a-path-array-of-points-in-mapview The example in the above post only draws one path between some points however and since I have many more paths than that I am running into some performance problems. I'm currently adding a new RouteOverlay for each of the separate paths. This results in me having over 800 overlays when they have all been added. This has a performance hit and I would love some input on what I can do to improve it. Here are some options I have considered: Try to add all the points to a List which then can be passed into a class that will extend Overlay. In that new class perhaps it would be possible to add and draw the paths in a single Overlay layer? I'm not sure on how to implement this though since the paths are not always intersecting and they have different start and end points. At the moment I'm adding each path which has several points to it's own list and then I add that to an Overlay. That results in over 700 overlays... Simplify the KML or SHP. Instead of having over 700 different paths, perhaps there is someway to merge them into perhaps 100 paths or less? Since alot of paths are intersected at some point it should be possible to modify the original SHP file so that it merges all intersections. Since I have never worked with these kinds of files before I have not been able to find a way to do this in GQIS. If someone knows how to do this I would love for some input on that. Here is a link to the group of shape files if you are interested: http://danielkvist.net/cprg_bef_cbana_polyline.shp http://danielkvist.net/cprg_bef_cbana_polyline.shx http://danielkvist.net/cprg_bef_cbana_polyline.dbf http://danielkvist.net/cprg_bef_cbana_polyline.prj Anyway, here is the code I'm using to add the Overlays. • Screen Casting using ffmpeg (too fast)

    - by rowman
    I can use ffmpeg to make screen casts: ffmpeg -f x11grab -s 1280x800 -i :0.0 -c:v libx264 -framerate 30 -r 30 -crf 18 out.mkv However the output comes out to be too fast paced. It also happens with GTK RecordMyDesktop if I enable the encode on the fly. So, the questions is how to get a normal video pace. Also in order to capture the sound with ffmpeg what option should be used? FFmpeg Output: ffmpeg -f x11grab -s 1280x800 -r 30 -i :0.0 -c:v libx264 -framerate 30 -r 30 -crf 18 out.mkv ffmpeg version N-35162-g87244c8 Copyright (c) 2000-2012 the FFmpeg developers built on Oct 7 2012 15:56:19 with gcc 4.6 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu5) configuration: --enable-gpl --enable-libfaac --enable-libfdk-aac --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-librtmp --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-x11grab --enable-libx264 --enable-nonfree --enable-version3 libavutil 51. 73.102 / 51. 73.102 libavcodec 54. 64.100 / 54. 64.100 libavformat 54. 29.105 / 54. 29.105 libavdevice 54. 3.100 / 54. 3.100 libavfilter 3. 19.102 / 3. 19.102 libswscale 2. 1.101 / 2. 1.101 libswresample 0. 16.100 / 0. 16.100 libpostproc 52. 1.100 / 52. 1.100 [x11grab @ 0xab896a0] device: :0.0 -> display: :0.0 x: 0 y: 0 width: 1280 height: 800 [x11grab @ 0xab896a0] shared memory extension found [x11grab @ 0xab896a0] Estimating duration from bitrate, this may be inaccurate Input #0, x11grab, from ':0.0': Duration: N/A, start: 1350136942.608988, bitrate: 983040 kb/s Stream #0:0: Video: rawvideo (BGR[0] / 0x524742), bgr0, 1280x800, 983040 kb/s, 30 tbr, 1000k tbn, 30 tbc [libx264 @ 0xab87320] using cpu capabilities: MMX2 SSE2Fast SSSE3 Cache64 SlowCTZ SlowAtom [libx264 @ 0xab87320] profile High 4:4:4 Predictive, level 3.2, 4:4:4 8-bit [libx264 @ 0xab87320] 264 -   • Enable Full Screen Mode in Media Center Without Trapping the Mouse

    - by DigitalGeekery
If you have a dual monitor setup and use Windows Media Center, you’re probably aware that when WMC is in full screen mode, it traps the mouse so you can’t work on a second monitor. Here we look at how to solve the annoyance. The Maxifier is an application that allows you to open Media Center in full screen mode without restricting the mouse. It relieves the annoyance of WMC capturing your mouse on a dual monitor setup. Note: If you don’t have two monitors attached, most of The Maxifier’s functions won’t work. Installation and Use Download, extract, and install The Maxifier. (See the download link below) The Maxifier runs minimized in the system tray and you access the options by right-clicking on the icon. If Media Center is not already open, you can choose Start Media Center to start WMC on the main start screen. Or, choose one of the other selections to open another area of Media Center. By default, Maxifier opens Media Center in full screen mode on the secondary monitor. When Media Center is open in full screen mode, you’ll notice you can now freely move your mouse around your multi-monitor setup. When Media Center is open, you’ll see five additional options. The Fit Screen options simply fits Media Center to the full screen, but still show the Windows borders. Full screen options put WMC in full screen mode.   The Maxifier Options allow you to choose from the various start up options. Selecting Watch for Media Center starting will prompt Maxifier to open WMC to the main start page in full screen mode on the secondary monitor automatically, even if you open Media Center without using The Maxifier.  (You may need to restart for this to take effect) If you have more than 2 monitors, you can define on which monitor to open Media Center, and which monitor you consider to be the main screen.   You can also define a number of Hotkeys in The Maxifier settings. First, select the Enable Hotkeys checkbox. To create a Hotkey, click in the text field and then press the keys to use as the Hotkey. To remove a Hotkey, click in the field and press the Delete key.   Conclusion The Maxifier is a simple program that enables Media Center users to take full advantage of a multi-monitor workspace. It works with both Vista and Windows 7. Version 1.4 is a stable application for Vista, and Version 1.5b is a beta application for Windows 7. Looking for more Media Center tips and tweaks? • ListView setOnItemClickListener and setOnItemSelectedListener to store the Selected Item Index

    - by Christophe
Hi all, I have read on this site that it is necessary to customize the setOnItemSelectedListener and setOnItemClickListener of a ListView if we want to know the Index of the SelectedItem (.getSelectedItemPosition()). So that is what I do but it does not stores the position of the SekectedItem, instead i have always -1... What I want to do is just to give the user a way to delete items from a list by selected and Item and Clicking a button. See the code below : listViewPeople.setOnItemClickListener(new ListView.OnItemClickListener() { @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> a, View v, int i, long l) { try { // Remembers the selected Index listViewPeopleId = listViewPeople.getSelectedItemPosition(); } catch(Exception e) { System.out.println("Nay, cannot get the selected index"); } } }); listViewPeople.setOnItemSelectedListener(new ListView.OnItemSelectedListener() { @Override public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> a, View v, int i, long l) { try { // Remembers the selected Index listViewPeopleId = listViewPeople.getSelectedItemPosition(); System.out.println("Yay, set the selected index " + listViewPeopleId); } catch(Exception e) { System.out.println("Nay, cannot get the selected index " + listViewPeopleId); } } @Override public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> arg0) { try { // Remembers nothing selected listViewPeopleId = -1; System.out.println("Yay, set that nothing is selected " + listViewPeopleId); } catch(Exception e) { System.out.println("Nay, cannot set that nothing is selected " + listViewPeopleId); } } }); What's wrong?? Thank you for your help! Christophe

  • IllegalArgumentException: width and height must be > 0 during zoomOut in Google MapView

    - by Janusz
    I'm trying to zoom in on a Google MapView on step in the oncreateMethod of my Activity. Everytime I try to zoom the map via the mapController I get an IllegalArgumentException: 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to start activity ComponentInfo{com.innomos.couponimo.android.client/com.innomos.couponimo.android.client.ui.showstores.StoreMap}: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: width and height must be > 0 This Exception is thrown if I call the zoomOut or zoomIn function of MapController. Sadly the zoomIn function I'm using does not take any arguments. The onCreateMethod where I'm calling the zoom functions looks like this: mapView = (MapView) findViewById(R.id.map); mapView.setBuiltInZoomControls(true); MapController mapController = mapView.getController(); mapController.zoomIn(); I'm a little bit at loss here because I'm doing nothing special. The whole stacktrace is: 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to start activity ComponentInfo{com.innomos.couponimo.android.client/com.innomos.couponimo.android.client.ui.showstores.StoreMap}: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: width and height must be > 0 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at android.app.ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2401) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2417) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at android.app.ActivityThread.access$2100(ActivityThread.java:116) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at android.app.ActivityThread$H.handleMessage(ActivityThread.java:1794) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4203) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:791) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:549) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: width and height must be > 0 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at android.graphics.Bitmap.nativeCreate(Native Method) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at android.graphics.Bitmap.createBitmap(Bitmap.java:468) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at com.google.android.maps.ZoomHelper.createSnapshot(ZoomHelper.java:305) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at com.google.android.maps.ZoomHelper.doZoom(ZoomHelper.java:137) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at com.google.android.maps.ZoomHelper.doZoom(ZoomHelper.java:126) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at com.google.android.maps.MapView.doZoom(MapView.java:1459) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at com.google.android.maps.MapView.doZoom(MapView.java:1468) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at com.google.android.maps.MapController.zoomIn(MapController.java:427) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at com.innomos.couponimo.android.client.ui.showstores.StoreMap.onCreate(StoreMap.java:58) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at android.app.Instrumentation.callActivityOnCreate(Instrumentation.java:1123) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): at android.app.ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2364) 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): ... 11 more

  • implement a coverflow UI in an Android web application

    - by ravidor
I am trying to build a coverflow UI on an Android web application using HTML,CSS, JavaScript and some images. CSS 3D transforms, which are supported in Safari sine 2009 and on the iPhone since version 2.0, is not supported well on the Android. worse then that, the implementation is buggy on Android 2.1 and Android 2.2, and in each version in a different way. Any idea how can I build a coverflow UI on an Android web application using HTML,CSS, JavaScript and some images without CSS 3D transforms?

  • Incorrect Coordinates From getLocationOnScreen/getLocationInWindow

    - by nimph
A call to getLocationOnScreen() or getLocationInWindow() both give me a top/Y coordinate that is about ~30px (status/notifications bar's height) too far down. The left/X coordinate is dead on. As I hinted above, I believe the difference is because of the status/notification bar... I could be wrong. I think I can solve this if I can determine the size of the notification bar but, I'm having trouble doing just that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Now I want attach the multiple file in email. i.e. the implementing the CheckBoxin each ListItemand checked items have to attached into the Mail. I know its possible because its very similar to the file manager application that checking the multiple file and deleting the all file by clicking the single Button. But don't know how to do.

  • Why can't we use a Translucent system bars with and ActionBar

    - by Waza_Be
While updating my apps to Kitkat, I just wanted to give them a gorgeous look on KitKat using the Translucent property: Translucent system bars You can now make the system bars partially translucent with new themes, Theme.Holo.NoActionBar.TranslucentDecor and Theme.Holo.Light.NoActionBar.TranslucentDecor. By enabling translucent system bars, your layout will fill the area behind the system bars, so you must also enable [fitsSystemWindows][4] for the portion of your layout that should not be covered by the system bars. My only concern is that I would like to use an ActionBar which sounds the opposite of what Google wants (both theme have NoActionBar: Theme.Holo.NoActionBar.TranslucentDecor Theme.Holo.Light.NoActionBar.TranslucentDecor As I don't plan to use some hacks or tricks to make it work, I just wanted to know if there was some correct way to achieve this or if this would be against Google guidelines.

  • How do I get the F1-F12 keys to switch screens in gnu screen in cygwin when connecting via SSH?

    - by Mikey
I'm connecting to a desktop running cygwin via SSH from the terminal app in Mac OS X. I have already started screen on the cygwin side and can connect to it over the SSH session. Furthermore, I have the following in the .screenrc file: bindkey -k k1 select 1 # F1 = screen 1 bindkey -k k2 select 2 # F2 = screen 2 bindkey -k k3 select 3 # F3 = screen 3 bindkey -k k4 select 4 # F4 = screen 4 bindkey -k k5 select 5 # F5 = screen 5 bindkey -k k6 select 6 # F6 = screen 6 bindkey -k k7 select 7 # F7 = screen 7 bindkey -k k8 select 8 # F8 = screen 8 bindkey -k k9 select 9 # F9 = screen 9 bindkey -k F1 prev # F11 = prev bindkey -k F2 next # F12 = next However, when I start multiple windows in screen and attempt to switch between them via the function keys, all I get is a beep. I have tried various settings for $TERM (e.g. ansi, cygwin, xterm-color, vt100) and they don't really seem to affect anything. I have verified that the terminal app is in fact sending the escape sequence for the function key that I'm expecting and that my bash shell (running inside screen) is receiving it. For example, for F1, it sends the following (hexdump is a perl script I wrote that takes STDIN in binmode and outputs it as a hexadecimal/ascii dump): % hexdump [press F1 and then hit ^D to terminate input] 00000000: 1b4f50 .OP If things were working correctly, I don't think bash should receive the escape sequence because screen should have caught it and turned it into a command. How do I get the function keys to work?

  • Passing Activity to non-activity object properly

    - by rayman
In my app ive got a non-activity object which it's role is being a manager class. many times i need to pass "source activity" to methods as parameter to that manager class in order to make some operations on that activity. for exaple let's assume we have MyActivity which gotta do some toast. so i have this manager class called MyManager, and i have this method in it raiseToast(Activity sourceActivity) { Toast.makeText(sourceActivity, demo, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); } and from Myactivity class we calling that method this way: MyManager manager=new MyManager(); manager.raitetoast(MyActivity.this); it works fine. what I'm asking here, is this a proper way to pass an Activity as parameter to a non-activity object? I'm having a memory leaks on real device(not the emulator), I wonder if this could also causing any reason for that? Thanks Idan.

When looking at the Contact Groups on Google Contacts or in the People application of my HTC Legend phone, I get the groups names ok eg: Friends, Family, VIP, Favorite etc... But in my application I get really wrong names such as "Family" became "System Group: Family" "Friends" became "System Group: Friends" "Favorite" became "Favorite_5656100000000_3245664334564" I use the below code to read these values: public Cursor getFromSystem() { // Get the base URI for the People table in the Contacts content // provider. Uri contacts = ContactsContract.Groups.CONTENT_URI; // Make the query. ContentResolver cr = ctx.getContentResolver(); // Form an array specifying which columns to return. String[] projection = new String[] { ContactsContract.Groups._ID, ContactsContract.Groups.TITLE, ContactsContract.Groups.NOTES }; Cursor managedCursor = cr.query(contacts, projection, ContactsContract.Groups.DELETED + "=0", null, ContactsContract.Groups.TITLE + " COLLATE LOCALIZED ASC"); return managedCursor; } What I am missing?

  • Possible to do rounded corners in custom Progressbar progressDrawable?

    - by b-ryce
I have a progress bar that is supposed to look like the attached image: And I've made it a long way. I'm very close the only part that isn't working is the rounded corners for the progressDrawable. Here is what mine looks like. (Notice, circled in red, that the fill inside the white outline does not have rounded corners): So, I've found a couple of ways to make this work when the progress bar is colored in with a shape, gradient, or color. BUT, I can't get it with an image as the progressDrawable. Here is my class that extends ProgressBar public class RoundedProgressBar extends ProgressBar{ private Paint paint; public RoundedProgressBar(Context context) { super(context); setup(); } public RoundedProgressBar(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs); setup(); } public RoundedProgressBar(Context context, AttributeSet attrs, int defStyle) { super(context, attrs, defStyle); setup(); ; } protected void setup() { paint = new Paint(); } @Override protected synchronized void onDraw(Canvas canvas) { // First draw the regular progress bar, then custom draw our text super.onDraw(canvas); paint.setColor(Color.WHITE); paint.setStyle(Paint.Style.STROKE); RectF r = new RectF(0,0,getWidth()-1,getHeight()-1); canvas.drawRoundRect(r,getHeight()/2,getHeight()/2, paint); } } Here is my selector: <layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" > <item android:id="@android:id/background" android:drawable="@drawable/slider_track" /> <item android:id="@android:id/secondaryProgress" android:drawable="@drawable/slider_track" /> <item android:id="@android:id/progress" android:drawable="@drawable/slider_track_progress" /> </layer-list> Here are the images used in the selector: slider_track- slider_track_progress- Here is where I embed my progressbar in the layout for my activity <com.android.component.RoundedProgressBar android:id="@+id/player_hp_bar" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="36dip" android:layout_marginLeft="30dip" android:layout_marginRight="30dip" android:max="100" style="?android:attr/progressBarStyleHorizontal" android:progressDrawable="@drawable/slider_layer_list" android:progress="20" android:maxHeight="12dip" android:minHeight="12dip" /> Anyone know how to make this work?

  • How do i close the alert dialog that displays custom view

    - by Asdfg
I have an activity named MainActivity which has a button. On click of that button i am displaying an AlertDialog which contains a custom view named ChildWindow.xml. That custom view has multiple textboxes and a OK button. On click of the OK button, i am calling a method of MainActivity. I am able to access the ChildWindow here as view.getRootView().findViewById(R.id.txtFirstName); Once the user clicks on the OK button, i have to close the alert dialog which i am able to do as view.getRootView().setVisibility(View.GONE); My problem is even though i have closed the the ChildWindow in the above statement, i am able to get reference to the textbox in the next line which means AlertDialog is closed but child window is still there. This is how the OK button click looks like: This works as expected: EditText tb = (EditText) view.getRootView().findViewById(R.id.txtFirstName); Toast toast = Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), tb.getText(), Toast.LENGTH_LONG); toast.show(); view.getRootView().setVisibility(View.GONE); This should not work as i am closing the alert dialog and then getting the reference of the textbox but this works too. view.getRootView().setVisibility(View.GONE); EditText tb = (EditText) view.getRootView().findViewById(R.id.txtFirstName); Toast toast = Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), tb.getText(), Toast.LENGTH_LONG); toast.show(); I think i am closing the alert dialog but i am not destroying it from the memory. Can someone point me out what am i missing here?

  • Enable GPS and network location programmatically on rooted phone?

    - by Steve H
I'd like to write a simple widget that toggles GPS and network location on and off. I've read that it's not possible to do that normally, but presumably on a rooted phone it must be doable. Does anyone know what the code would be? (I only need the code to toggle the location providers, I know how to make the widget.) It doesn't matter that this isn't a 'good' solution, I don't plan to distribute the widget. If it matters, this would be on an HTC Hero, still running v1.5.

  • Recording a screencast of an Android app using the emulator

    - by hgpc
Unlike the iPhone simulator, the Android emulator doesn't look like an Android device. If you have to create a screencast or promotional video of your Android application, the default skin of the emulator is no good. Is there any way to configure the emulator to look like an Android device? If you have dealt with this already, what other things do you recommend taking into account to record an emulator screencast? Not a programming question per se, but an useful question for Android developers.
