  • Problem with jquery-droppable in Chrome

    I have a simple application that users jquery-ui's draggable and droppable. In Firefox, it works perfectly. In Chrome, however, I'm having problems. This is the code: $(".cell").droppable({ drop: function(event, ui) { var originalTarget = event.originalTarget; ... } }); In Chrome the 'event' object is of type 'Object' (using Chrome Dev Kit), and event.originalTarget is 'undefined'. What am I doing wrong?

    Heya, I am looking for a way to close a scripty2 dialog like this : http://mir.aculo.us/stuff/scripty2-ui/test/functional/controls_dialog.html From outside of the dialog (i.e. with firebug command line) but my javascript mojo is a bit limited and after 30 min of going around the DOM I cannot find a way. Any hints ? NB : scripty2 is a rewrite of script.aculo.us which uses bits of Jquery UI.

    I am currently playing around with jqueries drag and drop, basically I currently have a div (.drag_check) that holds a checkbox, I have the drag and drop working but I want to alert out the checkbox's ID once the element is dropped, I assume I have to use child but all my attempts have returned 'undefined'. I am using Struts2 with version 2.1.6. When I leave the input elements such as <s:textfield>, <s:textarea>, etc. of a <s:form> with the default theme, the elements are rendered as: <tr> <td class="tdLabel"><label for="firstname" class="label">Firstname:</label></td> <td><input type="text" name="firstname" id="firstname"/></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="tdLabel"><label for="lastname" class="label">Lastname:</label></td> <td><input type="text" name="lastname" id="lastname"/></td> </tr> Now if i want to add something, say an html label, between the two elements, the result gets messed up as described in the related question above. Another problem is: for the <s:checkbox> item, it is just not possible to add an extra title. For example, this tag <s:checkbox id="defaultprinter" name="defaultprinter" key="lbl.defaultprinter"/> is rendered as: <tr> <td valign="top" align="right"></td> <td valign="top" align="left"> <input type="checkbox" name="defaultprinter" value="true" checked="checked" id="defaultprinter"/> <label for="defaultprinter" class="checkboxLabel">Default Printer</label> </td> </tr> By only setting the attributes of <s:checkbox>, i can't add any text to the first <td> shown above (here it is empty!).     I have a scenario where a user is emailing another user in an HTML based web app. For the To: field, the user may select one of a pre-defined list of emails OR enter their own ignoring the pre-defined options. What would be the best way of doing this from a UI point of view? I've looked at editable select boxes using jQuery but none seem to let you enter your own option. Is there some other UI mechanism that would work here?

  • Click to select from a list of tags in jQuery

    I'm struggling to find a tag selection UI for a rails app. Ideally it would be something like the selection here on Stackoverflow, or on Delicious or Digg. I want users to be able to select multiple tags with a single click. We're already using jQuery, so it makes sense to use something that takes advantage of that. I've used the selection ui in jQuery and I'm not thrilled about having users need to hold down ctrl to select multiple tags.

    On a Windows 2008 R2, using DNS and IIS I've established my development test server; i.e. I'll have a web application that I can browse on http://test.dev I've moved all the static content files like images, js files and css files into another application which is visible on http://cdn.test.dev test.dev, uses cdn.test.dev urls like http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js to load js, css and images. When I first load "~/" of test.dev, all files will load with a response code of 200; when I press F5 in Firefox, all files, except the "~/default.aspx", will load with 304 response code; but pressing Ctrl+F5 loads them again with a 200 code; if I browse another url like "~/pages/" in test.dev, all of those static files will reload with a 200 code... Is this normal or I'm doing something wrong? Actually, I'm looking for a behavior like this: I want the client to load http://cdn.test.dev/js/jquery.js, only once. I want the client's browser to use this jquery.js file, from cache, in all other pages of test.dev Is this possible?   • Setting the view of the toolbar to Large icons creates a gap in the Windows 7's taskbar

    If you add a custom toolbar in the Windows 7 taksbar and set the toolbar view to Large Icons (and the icons in the toolbar are not set to Use small icons), the height of the taskbar unexpectedly increases by around 5 pixels, which makes a rather stupid gap at the bottom of the screen. If the option Use small icons is used for the taskbar appearance, the height of the taskbar is normal. It appears that the programmers at Microsoft were not very meticulous while designing the Windows 7 UI; it is obviously a bug. I was wondering if there is a registry hack to fix this or if anyone knows any solution to the problem, except for the obvious one: "use the small icons"? Thanks.

  • How can I have Windows 8 go to the desktop by default?

    I've played around a smidge with the Windows 8 Consumer Preview in a VirtualBox VM and I think the improvements under the hood may be worth tolerating the Metro UI crap. I don't like that the entire screen changes to something I don't care about when I hit the Windows key and start typing but I can deal with it. The one thing I cannot stand, though, is that it starts in the Metro interface by default. I have to hit the "Desktop" tile to get to a normal interface, and while I can hit "escape" to go back to the desktop and dismiss Metro, it doesn't work when you first log in. When you first log in, you have to hit that "Desktop" tile. I know that the Enterprise versions of Windows 8 will go to the desktop by default. I don't know but I would assume that there's probably some registry key that would handle this. Has anyone figured that out yet?

  • Why does a browser dialog come up when an xmlhttprequest sends the wrong / no auth?

    How come the major browsers all bring up a login dialog when an xmlhttprequest does auth wrong or doesn't send it? I mean isn't this poor UI? Now a days it seems like a lot of people try http auth in jQuery, because theoretically it is quite easy - until the user fails to enter the correct data and is presented with the browsers dialog, which gets in their way, and they might have no idea what to do with it or why it's there? I don't know too much about these low level browser specifications but can someone bring this up with the RFC or webkit/gecko developers? jQuery digest auth could be powerful and user friendly if this was fixed. ** It seems like apache could also fix the problem on their side by not sending the header, but whichever one is the most secure way of doing this would be nice.

  • Remote Desktop app can't connect through VPN or through RDP load balancer

    Using the regular Remote Desktop Client (in the desktop environment) I can connect just fine to remote servers when connected through Cisco VPN or when accessing a server behind a load balancer. When using the Remote Desktop app in the Modern UI, I can't do either of these things. Trying to connect to a remote server that's on a private network fails with: Can't find server, make sure the name and domain are correct and try again And connecting to a server that's behind an RDP load balancer fails with the following error, after accepting credentials: Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote PC again Is there some way to use the Remote Desktop app in these situations, or am I just out of luck?

  • Force Windows 8 Metro apps to run lower resolutions below 1024x768?

    I have installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my Samsung NB30 netbook. I was very excited to try it on this little box cause it has a touchscreen and Windows 8 is supposed to be optimized for touchscreen devices. The installation was quick and smooth and all the drivers seem to work well including the one for the touchscreen. There is one major problem, though: when I try to tap one of the tiles on the Metro UI it displays This app can't open. The screen resolution is too low for this app to run. The machine has Intel Atom N450 processor and Intel GMA 3159 integrated graphics card and has maximum resolution 1024x600. I've read that Metro requires at least 1024x768. Is there a solution to this problem? Is there a way to force Windows 8 Metro apps to run in lower resolutions?
