  • how i got the name of the string variable in the strange attempt to debug unknown variable ?

    - by justjoe
    i got several variable. One is variable string, object, and array. $mystring = "hello im input"; $myobject = new userclass; $myarray = array ( 0 = 'zero', 1 = "one"); i want to create a new array with its variable name as key before send it to as function parameter with it's first line use extract function. the multi_array will be like this multi_array = array ( 'mystring' = "hello im input", 'myobject' = new userclass, 'myarray' = array ( 0 = 'zero', 1 = "one") ) i use key to get the name of array and getclass to get the name of object. But how i got the name of the string variable ? function i_do_extract($multi_array) { extract($multi_array); // Do Rest }

  • Please help debug this ASP.Net [VB] code. Trying to write to text file from SQL Server DB.

    - by NJTechGuy
    I am a PHP programmer. I have no .Net coding experience (last seen it 4 years ago). Not interested in code-behind model since this is a quick temporary hack. What I am trying to do is generate an output.txt file whenever the user submits new data. So an output.txt file if exists should be replaced with the new one. I want to write data in this format : 123|Java Programmer|2010-01-01|2010-02-03 124|VB Programmer|2010-01-01|2010-02-03 125|.Net Programmer|2010-01-01|2010-02-03 I don't know VB, so not sure about string manipulations. Hope a kind soul can help me with this. I will be grateful to you. Thank you :) <%@ Import Namespace="System.IO" %> <%@ Import Namespace="System.Data" %> <%@ Import Namespace="System.Data.SqlClient" %> <script language="vb" runat="server"> sub Page_Load(sender as Object, e as EventArgs) Dim sqlConn As New SqlConnection("Data Source=winsqlus04.1and1.com;Initial Catalog=db28765269;User Id=dbo2765469;Password=ByhgstfH;") Dim myCommand As SqlCommand Dim dr As SqlDataReader Dim FILENAME as String = Server.MapPath("Output4.txt") Dim objStreamWriter as StreamWriter ' If Len(Dir$(FILENAME)) > 0 Then Kill(FILENAME) objStreamWriter = File.AppendText(FILENAME) Try sqlConn.Open() 'opening the connection myCommand = New SqlCommand("SELECT id, title, CONVERT(varchar(10), expirydate, 120) AS [expirydate],CONVERT(varchar(10), creationdate, 120) AS [createdate] from tblContact where flag = 0 AND ACTIVE = 1", sqlConn) 'executing the command and assigning it to connection dr = myCommand.ExecuteReader() While dr.Read() objStreamWriter.WriteLine("JobID: " & dr(0).ToString()) objStreamWriter.WriteLine("JobID: " & dr(2).ToString()) objStreamWriter.WriteLine("JobID: " & dr(3).ToString()) End While dr.Close() sqlConn.Close() Catch x As Exception End Try objStreamWriter.Close() Dim objStreamReader as StreamReader objStreamReader = File.OpenText(FILENAME) Dim contents as String = objStreamReader.ReadToEnd() lblNicerOutput.Text = contents.Replace(vbCrLf, "<br>") objStreamReader.Close() end sub </script> <asp:label runat="server" id="lblNicerOutput" Font-Name="Verdana" />

  • Is there a way to debug ASP.NET MVC code using a symbol server (instead of downloading the source an

    - by Pure.Krome
    Hi folks, Is it possible to step through the official ASP.NET MVC 2 code via using the Symbol Server thingy in visual studio 2010? I know I can download the full open source MVC code from codeplex, build it and then get my code to reference THAT codebase dll's... But i'm wondering if this could be achieved by using the Symbol Server stuff instead? If so, can someone go through some steps please, about how to achieve this?

  • How do I step through and debug a Scheme program using Dr. Racket?

    - by Thomas Owens
    I'm using the Dr. Racket development environment and the language definition #lang scheme to do work for a course. However, I'm not sure how to best use this tool for debugging. I would like to be able to execute a function and step through it, observing the values of different functions at various points in execution. Is this possible? If not, what is the typical method of stepping through the execution of a Scheme program and debugging it?

  • Python constructor does weird things with optional parameters

    - by christangrant
    Can you help me understand of the behaviour and implications of the python __init__ constructor. It seems like when there is an optional parameter and you try and set an existing object to a new object the optional value of the existing object is preserved and copied. Ok that was confusing... so look at an example I concocted below. In the code below I am trying to make a tree structure with nodes and possibly many children . In the first class NodeBad, the constructor has two parameters, the value and any possible children. The second class NodeGood only takes the value of the node as a parameter. Both have an addchild method to add a child to a node. When creating a tree with the NodeGood class, it works as expected. However, when doing the same thing with the NodeBad class, it seems as though a child can only be added once! The code below will result in the following output: Good Tree 1 2 3 [< 3 >] Bad Tree 1 2 2 [< 2 >, < 3 >] Que Pasa? Here is the Example: #!/usr/bin/python class NodeBad: def __init__(self, value, c=[]): self.value = value self.children = c def addchild(self, node): self.children.append(node) def __str__(self): return '< %s >' % self.value def __repr__(self): return '< %s >' % self.value class NodeGood: def __init__(self, value): self.value = value self.children = [] def addchild(self, node): self.children.append(node) def __str__(self): return '< %s >' % self.value def __repr__(self): return '< %s >' % self.value if __name__ == '__main__': print 'Good Tree' ng = NodeGood(1) # Root Node rootgood = ng ng.addchild(NodeGood(2)) # 1nd Child ng = ng.children[0] ng.addchild(NodeGood(3)) # 2nd Child print rootgood.value print rootgood.children[0].value print rootgood.children[0].children[0].value print rootgood.children[0].children print 'Bad Tree' nb = NodeBad(1) # Root Node rootbad = nb nb.addchild(NodeBad(2)) # 1st Child nb = nb.children[0] nb.addchild(NodeBad(3)) # 2nd Child print rootbad.value print rootbad.children[0].value print rootbad.children[0].children[0].value print rootbad.children[0].children

  • How can I debug a Windows service that crashes?

    - by Christopher
    I have a .NET Windows service that appears to be crashing due to C00000005 (access violation--according to Dr Watson). When I attach the VS debugger to it--whether I build it with or without symbols--the VS debugger just stops when the service crashes, instead of stopping to give me a chance to do any investigation. Is that to be expected, or am I doing something wrong? Will using WinDbg let me do something more in real time (obviously, WinDbg lets me do crash dump analysis)? Thanks!

  • How do I debug this javascript -- I don't get an error in Firebug but it's not working as expected.

    - by Angela
    I installed the plugin better-edit-in-place (http://github.com/nakajima/better-edit-in-place) but I dont' seem to be able to make it work. The plugin creates javascript, and also automatically creates a rel and class. The expected behavior is to make an edit-in-place, but it currently is not. Nothing happens when I mouse over. When I use firebug, it is rendering the value to be edited correctly: <span rel="/emails/1" id="email_1_days" class="editable">7</span> And it is showing the full javascript which should work on class editable. I didn't copy everything, just the chunks that seemed should be operationable if I have a class name in the DOM. // Editable: Better in-place-editing // http://github.com/nakajima/nakatype/wikis/better-edit-in-place-editable-js var Editable = Class.create({ initialize: function(element, options) { this.element = $(element); Object.extend(this, options); // Set default values for options this.editField = this.editField || {}; this.editField.type = this.editField.type || 'input'; this.onLoading = this.onLoading || Prototype.emptyFunction; this.onComplete = this.onComplete || Prototype.emptyFunction; this.field = this.parseField(); this.value = this.element.innerHTML; this.setupForm(); this.setupBehaviors(); }, // In order to parse the field correctly, it's necessary that the element // you want to edit in place for have an id of (model_name)_(id)_(field_name). // For example, if you want to edit the "caption" field in a "Photo" model, // your id should be something like "photo_#{@photo.id}_caption". // If you want to edit the "comment_body" field in a "MemberBlogPost" model, // it would be: "member_blog_post_#{@member_blog_post.id}_comment_body" parseField: function() { var matches = this.element.id.match(/(.*)_\d*_(.*)/); this.modelName = matches[1]; this.fieldName = matches[2]; if (this.editField.foreignKey) this.fieldName += '_id'; return this.modelName + '[' + this.fieldName + ']'; }, // Create the editing form for the editable and inserts it after the element. // If window._token is defined, then we add a hidden element that contains the // authenticity_token for the AJAX request. setupForm: function() { this.editForm = new Element('form', { 'action': this.element.readAttribute('rel'), 'style':'display:none', 'class':'in-place-editor' }); this.setupInputElement(); if (this.editField.tag != 'select') { this.saveInput = new Element('input', { type:'submit', value: Editable.options.saveText }); if (this.submitButtonClass) this.saveInput.addClassName(this.submitButtonClass); this.cancelLink = new Element('a', { href:'#' }).update(Editable.options.cancelText); if (this.cancelButtonClass) this.cancelLink.addClassName(this.cancelButtonClass); } var methodInput = new Element('input', { type:'hidden', value:'put', name:'_method' }); if (typeof(window._token) != 'undefined') { this.editForm.insert(new Element('input', { type: 'hidden', value: window._token, name: 'authenticity_token' })); } this.editForm.insert(this.editField.element); if (this.editField.type != 'select') { this.editForm.insert(this.saveInput); this.editForm.insert(this.cancelLink); } this.editForm.insert(methodInput); this.element.insert({ after: this.editForm }); }, // Create input element - text input, text area or select box. setupInputElement: function() { this.editField.element = new Element(this.editField.type, { 'name':this.field, 'id':('edit_' + this.element.id) }); if(this.editField['class']) this.editField.element.addClassName(this.editField['class']); if(this.editField.type == 'select') { // Create options var options = this.editField.options.map(function(option) { return new Option(option[0], option[1]); }); // And assign them to select element options.each(function(option, index) { this.editField.element.options[index] = options[index]; }.bind(this)); // Set selected option try { this.editField.element.selectedIndex = $A(this.editField.element.options).find(function(option) { return option.text == this.element.innerHTML; }.bind(this)).index; } catch(e) { this.editField.element.selectedIndex = 0; } // Set event handlers to automaticall submit form when option is changed this.editField.element.observe('blur', this.cancel.bind(this)); this.editField.element.observe('change', this.save.bind(this)); } else { // Copy value of the element to the input this.editField.element.value = this.element.innerHTML; } }, // Sets up event handles for editable. setupBehaviors: function() { this.element.observe('click', this.edit.bindAsEventListener(this)); if (this.saveInput) this.editForm.observe('submit', this.save.bindAsEventListener(this)); if (this.cancelLink) this.cancelLink.observe('click', this.cancel.bindAsEventListener(this)); }, // Event Handler that activates form and hides element. edit: function(event) { this.element.hide(); this.editForm.show(); this.editField.element.activate ?   • What free tools or strategies can help debug a multi-threading corruption bug?

    - by WilliamKF
    I have a client server application with multi-threading. The server side is failing with a std::list getting corrupted resulting in a SEGV. I suspect that there is some kind of cross thread timing issue going on where the two threads are updating the std::list at the same time and causing it to be corrupted. Please suggest free tools to track this down or strategies that might be helpful.

  • How can I debug an application crash in Win7 after it's happened?

    - by parsley72
    I have a Visual Basic 6 application that I've recently changed to use a couple of C++ DLLs I've written in Visual Studio 2008. The application works fine on my PC, but when we install it on one of our test PCs it tends to crash during shutdown - we see the Win 7 message "Your application has failed" or whatever it is. I know Win 7 stores data that can be used to analyse the crash. I've got the source code and .PDB files from the build so I should be able to use that, but I can't figure out where Win 7 stores the data from the crash. The Event Viewer shows the crash but doesn't have any data and the directory C:\Windows\Minidump doesn't exist. Where do the crash files get put?

  • Exception thrown in a referenced .dll how do I debug?

    - by Sara Chipps
    I'm using watermark extenders on textboxes and an exception is being thrown from the AJAX Control Toolkit .dll. It's strange because this just started happening. I tried debugging from the Ajax solution and Ajax examples (but with my code), but no dice. Is there a way to step into the Ajax .dll from my solution to see where this is happening?

  • Why does C# exit when calling the Ada elaboration routine using debug?

    - by erict
    I have a DLL created in Ada using GPS. I am dynamically loading it and calling it successfully both from Ada and from C++. But when I try to call it from C#, the program exits on the call to Elaboration init. What am I missing? The exact same DLL is perfectly happy getting called from C++ and Ada. Edit: If I start the program without Debugging, it also works with C#. But if I run it with the Debugger, then it exits on the call to ElaborationInit. There are no indications in any of the Windows event logs. If the Ada DLL is Pure, and I skip the elaboration init call, the actual function DLL is called correctly, so it has something to do with the elaboration. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; namespace CallingDLLfromCS { class Program { [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)] public static extern IntPtr LoadLibrary(string dllToLoad); [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Ansi, SetLastError = true)] public static extern IntPtr GetProcAddress(IntPtr hModule, string procedureName); [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)] public static extern bool FreeLibrary(IntPtr hModule); [UnmanagedFunctionPointer(CallingConvention.StdCall)] delegate int AdaCallable2_dlgt(int val); static AdaCallable2_dlgt fnAdaCallable2 = null; [UnmanagedFunctionPointer(CallingConvention.StdCall)] delegate void ElaborationInit_dlgt(); static ElaborationInit_dlgt ElaborationInit = null; [UnmanagedFunctionPointer(CallingConvention.StdCall)] delegate void AdaFinal_dlgt(); static AdaFinal_dlgt AdaFinal = null; static void Main(string[] args) { int result; bool fail = false; // assume the best IntPtr pDll2 = LoadLibrary("libDllBuiltFromAda.dll"); if (pDll2 != IntPtr.Zero) { // Note the @4 is because 4 bytes are passed. • Can I Always debug multiple instances of a same object that is of type thread with GDB?

    - by yan bellavance
    program runs fine. When I put a breakpoint a segmentation fault is generated. Is it me or GDB? At run time this never happens and if I instantiate only one object then no problems. Im using QtCreator on ubuntu x86_64 karmic koala. UPDATE1: I have made a small program containing a simplified version of that class. You can download it at: example program simply put a breakpoint on the first line of the function called drawChart() and step into to see the segfault happen UPDATE2: This is another small program but it is practically the same as the mandlebrot example and it is still happening. You can diff it with mandlebrot to see the small difference. almost the same as mandlebrot example program

  • JSon/Jquery request with a setTimeout always returns a "null" result? (for Twitter Search API)

    - by supermogx
    I make a call to the twitter API. 100 posts are retreived + a properties that tells me what the next page to call is. So I wait 5 sec. and call that next page, but the JSon results in the callback function is always null the second time... I think it's probably a JQuery problem... Here's a complete sample HTML code : <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="./jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script> <script> function test() { var rqUrl = "http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=%23apple+OR+%23ipad&rpp=100&callback=?" callTwitterSearchApi(rqUrl); } function callTwitterSearchApi(tiwtterRequestUrl) { debug("request to twitter : " + tiwtterRequestUrl); // *** FIRST CALL WORKS GREAT... *** $.getJSON(tiwtterRequestUrl, callTwitterSearchApi_callback); } function callTwitterSearchApi_callback(jsonPostsResults) { debug("callback"); if (jsonPostsResults == null) { debug("Why is jsonPostsResults null? If I copy paste the request inside a browser, I get something =("); return; } if (jsonPostsResults.error != undefined && jsonPostsResults.error != "") { debug("twitter api error"); } var posts = new Array(); $(jsonPostsResults.results).each(function() { posts.push(this); }); debug("Number of posts : " + posts.length); if (jsonPostsResults.next_page != undefined && jsonPostsResults.next_page.trim() != "") { debug("calling next request in 5 sec..."); // *** WHEN COMMING BACK FROM THAT LINE, JSON RESULTS == NULL?! **** setTimeout("callTwitterSearchApi(\"http://search.twitter.com/search.json" + jsonPostsResults.next_page + "\")", 5000); } } function debug(message) { document.getElementById('debug').innerHTML = message + "\n" + document.getElementById('debug').innerHTML; } </script> </head> <body> <input type="button" onclick="test();" value="test" /><br /> <textarea id="debug" cols="80" rows="20"></textarea> </body> </html> at line 18, at the second callback (back from the setTimeout), the parameter "jsonPostsResults" is always returned as null... I have no idea why. If I copy paste that 2nd request in a browser, it returns 100 results. Anybody had a problem like that with the Ajax JQuery functions when calling it with a setTimeout?

  • Why would Visual Studio 2010 say it can't show a variable during debug?

    - by Edward Tanguay
    In Visual Studio 2010 sometimes when I want to get the value of a variable while debugging, it tells me that it "does not exist in this context" when it obviously does. I have found that if I use the variable, as in the screenshot below, then it is able to show it. Has anyone experienced this? Visual Studio 2008 never did this. How can I get Visual Studio 2010 to always show me variable values while debugging?
