Well, my reaction is “hogwash”. Sure, HTML 5 is important and does some interesting stuff. Checkout what Bing.com is doing with it on some days and you can see. But to say that XAML is dead is nuts. I have been wrapping up bugs on a cross browser version of an application for awhile now. Whats the state of cross browser today? Well, better than a few years ago but far from perfect.  Each browser vendor interprets the specs in a little different way and you must account for them. The worst offender for major browsers? Apple and its Safari.  I had to make more changes for it than any other. Whats that got to do with XAML and SL/WPF?  Well, you write your SL code once and it runs in all browsers that support it, no changes. ipad does not? Well, they should be taken to court and forced too just like MS and others have been in the past for locking out competitors. Line of business applications? Write them in SL or WPF or both.  Use the power of XAML witch far out reaches html in any flavor and move on. We do need HTML 5 but its not a panacea nor will it replace all other technologies.

  • Select (loop) or command not working in shell-script

    I've been tinkering with Linux and Unix for years but still a novice in my mind and recently find myself trying to be more pro with it as I work in IT. So with that notion I'm studying shell scripting. I've hit a snag in ubuntu using the latest version 13.10 Saucy. When I use the select command in a sh script it doesn't work, depending on how I format the command it will either return Unexpected "do" or Unexpected "done". See the following two examples: This section of code produces an unexpected "do" error: #/bin/bash PS3='Please enter your choice' select opt in option1 option2 option3 quit do case $opt in "option1") echo "you chose choice 1" ;; "option2") echo "you chose choice 2" ;; "option3") echo "you chose choice 3" ;; "quit") break ;; *) echo invalid option ;; esac done This section of code produces an unexpected "done" error. #/bin/bash PS3='Please enter your choice' select opt in option1 option2 option3 quit ; do case $opt in "Option1") echo "you chose choice 1" ;; "Option2") echo "you chose choice 2" ;; "Option3") echo "you chose choice 3" ;; "quit") break ;; *) echo invalid option ;; esac done When I enter these parameters into the command line interactively or manually I get the desired result which is a list of choices to choose from. However when executed from a script I get the before mentioned errors. Also a side note I have tried this in Fedora as a script and it worked perfectly so my question is why isn't it working in Ubuntu, is this a difference between RHL and Debian? The new format has so many advantages over the old that we really don't want to go back, but mod_speling is so nice to have that we'd also really like it to work if possible. Any ideas for how we might be able to fix mod_speling?

    I'm an ASP.NET Webforms developer, and I face some problems when I deal with designers. Designers always complain about the asp.net server controls. They'd rather just have an html file and create css files along with the required images to go with those. Sometimes, if the design phase is done in advance, I get html files with related css files, but then we face many problems integrating the design with the aspx files (sever controls an telerik controls ... etc). What I want to ask about is: How do I overcome these problems? The designers prefer php- and mvc developers because of the problems with .net server controls. I need to know how to interact with the designers in the correct way. Are there any tools or applications to provide the designers with the rendered (html page) of the .aspx pages? By that I mean the page in runtime rather than the aspx in Visual Studio. They do use Web Expression but they want the rendered page in html as well.

  • HTAccess redirect directories to index.html

    Hi there, I am working on a site that where I do not have permission to the server and someone else keeps changing the settings. That person just changed the settings preventing users from going to example.com/foo/ and seeing the index page. This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed. If you type in example.com/foo/index.html you can still see the file. So I want to use htaccess to redirect all urls that end in a directory to change into directory/index.html How do I write that? I started with some code that changes .php files to .html files and tried to work from that but I couldn't quite get it to work. RewriteRule ^(.*)\.php$ /$1.html [R=301,L] Any suggestions?

    Currently I'm having the following htaccess content: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^(.*).html$ $1.php </IfModule> I want to change the php extension to html. Now if I browse for localhost/xx.html I get the right content. BUT I also can use xx.php or xx to access the oontent! I only want to get the content if there is an html extension! How can I make this work??? Example: On the server I have the file foo.php. Now I want the user to type in foo.html in the browser to get the content of foo.php. But if he types foo.php there will be an error. I already tried this RewriteRule ^(.*)[^\.html]$ error.php RewriteRule ^(.*)\.html$ $1.php But that does not really work Thanks!

  • Live HTML Preview

    When you need to edit an HTML document in NetBeans you may find useful this little plugin that adds a Preview tab to HTML editor window. The plugin works with some small issues in NetBeans 7.4 but I recommend using development builds instead. So install the plugin, restart NetBeans and open any HTML document. Notice there's a Preview button in editor's toolbar (see the red rectangle in the picture below). Now split the editor window by dragging the split button at top right corner. You can also use menu View - Split - Vertically.  Then in the bottom split part toggle Preview button. You will get a live preview of your HTML source code. The preview pane will auto-refresh as you edit the HTML code. There are even some handy tools in Preview toolbar, for example you can resize the preview browser to match the screen dimensions of various device types. I know there is full-blown HTML5 support in NetBeans 7.4. But if you need to edit a single document or when you're running Java-only NetBeans distribution this plugin may come handy... Note: The plugin is built on top of embedded WebKit browser which is based on JavaFX WebView component. So there might be some issue when using the plugin on some flavors of Linux.

Such a way that when I output it, it doesn't wrap it in<html> tags and turn it into an HTML document, I just want HTML, no document. Is this possible?

  • How do I convert HTML to RTF (Rich Text) in .NET without paying for a component?

    Is there a free third-party or .NET class that will convert HTML to RTF (for use in a rich-text enabled Windows Forms control)? The "free" requirement comes from the fact that I'm only working on a prototype and can just load the BrowserControl and just render HTML if need be (even if it is slow) and that Developer Express is going to be releasing their own such control soon-ish. I don't want to learn to write RTF by hand, and I already know HTML, so I figure this is the quickest way to get some demonstrable code out the door quickly.
