  • Android Layout: Why don't the TextView and a ToggleButton align

    I'm trying to put a TextView and a ToggleButton in a table row, however, they don't seem to align (The top of the button starts about 10px below the top of the textview even though the height each element is the same.   • Database nesting layout confusion

    I'm no expert in databases and a beginner in Rails, so here goes something which kinda confuses me... Assuming I have three classes as a sample (note that no effort has been made to address any possible Rails reserved words issue in the sample). class File < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :records, :dependent => :destroy accepts_nested_attributes_for :records, :allow_destroy => true end class Record < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :file has_many :users, :dependent => :destroy accepts_nested_attributes_for :users, :allow_destroy => true end class User < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :record end Upon entering records, the database contents will appear as such. My issue is that if there are a lot of Files for the same Record, there will be duplicate record names. This will also be true if there will be multiple Records for the same user in the the Users table. I was wondering if there is a better way than this so as to have one or more files point to a single Record entry and one or more Records will point to a single User. BTW, the File names are unique. Files table: id name 1 name1 2 name2 3 name3 4 name4 Records table: id file_id record_name record_type 1 1 ForDaisy1 ... 2 2 ForDonald1 ... 3 3 ForDonald2 ... 4 4 ForDaisy1 ... Users table: id record_id username 1 1 Daisy 2 2 Donald 3 3 Donald 4 4 Daisy Is there any way to optimize the database to prevent duplication of entries, or this should really the correct and proper behavior. I spread out the database into different tables to be able to easily add new columns in the future.

  • Vim 80 column layout concerns

    I feel like the way I do 80-column indication in Vim is incorrect: set columns=80. At times I also set textwidth but I like to be able to see and anticipate line overflow with the set columns alternative. This has some unfortunate side effects -- I can't set number for fear of splitting between files that have different orders of line numbers; i.e. < 100 line files and = 100 line files will require two different set columns values because of the extra column used for the additional digit display. I also start new (g)Vim sessions instead of splitting windows vertically, which forces me to use the window manager's clipboard -- vsplits force me to do set columns every time I open or close a pane, so starting a new session is less hassle. How do you handle the 80-character indication when you want to set numbers, vertically split, etc.?

  • Finding the right terminology for a dictionary table

    My concern is about what I currently call "dictionary tables", that are database tables containing a list of controlled vocabulary. Let's use an example: Suppose you have a table User containing fields: user_id : primary key first_name last_name user_type_id : foreign key to the UserType table and another table UserType with just two fields: user_type_id : primary key name : the name/value of a particular type of user. For instance, the UserType table may contain (1, Administrator), (2, PowerUser), (3, Normal)... My question is: what is the canonical term for a table like UserType, that only contains a list of (dictinct) words. I want to publish some code that help managing this kind of tables, but first I have to name them ! Thanks for your help. Current state of thought: For now I feel Lookup Tables is a good term.   • Prototypal inheritance should save memory, right?

    Hi Folks, I've been wondering: Using prototypes in JavaScript should be more memory efficient than attaching every member of an object directly to it for the following reasons: The prototype is just one single object. The instances hold only references to their prototype. Versus: Every instance holds a copy of all the members and methods that are defined by the constructor. I started a little experiment with this: var TestObjectFat = function() { this.number = 42; this.text = randomString(1000); } var TestObjectThin = function() { this.number = 42; } TestObjectThin.prototype.text = randomString(1000); randomString(x) just produces a, well, random String of length x. I then instantiated the objects in large quantities like this: var arr = new Array(); for (var i = 0; i < 1000; i++) { arr.push(new TestObjectFat()); // or new TestObjectThin() } ... and checked the memory usage of the browser process (Google Chrome). I know, that's not very exact... However, in both cases the memory usage went up significantly as expected (about 30MB for TestObjectFat), but the prototype variant used not much less memory (about 26MB for TestObjectThin). I also checked: The TestObjectThin instances contain the same string in their "text" property, so they are really using the property of the prototype. Now, I'm not so sure what to think about this. The prototyping doesn't seem to be the big memory saver at all. I know that prototyping is a great idea for many other reasons, but I'm specifically concerned with memory usage here. Any explanations why the prototype variant uses almost the same amount of memory? Am I missing something?

    Hi All, I know that there is the PyObjC bridge is OSX and what I want to do is to put a python application/script in the rightclick context menu of OS X. there is the OnMyCommand plugin but I dont think that supports python. I've had a look at how to do it in Carbon/ Objective-C and i'll admit it im a wuss and am just not smart enough yet to grok how to do it (I aint even close to groking it actually.) Anybody got any idea's on how I might go about this? Cheers

  • why doesn't IE8 refresh textbox right away?(Jquery)

    I have 3 radio buttons and one textbox in my page. These 3 radio controls represent corresponding choice and among them, the third one enables textbox that is disabled by default. If user clicks any one from the first twos after clicking the third, the textbox will be emptied(if user input any) and disabled again. The problem is, in IE, the textbox isn't emptied not until I click back once again on the said textbox. I've used jquery val methods as well as attr but nothing seems to work. You can see my code as follows. The very same code works just fine in Mozilla.     I am creating a web site for a customer and they want to be able to create articles. My idea is to tag them so I am going to implement the system. What is the best design, both from an architectural and a perfomance perspective: 1. To have table with all tags and then have a one to many relationship table that links a tag like this: articles table with ID tags table with ID one to many table with columns Article.ID and Tags.ID 2.     Hello, I an quite new to jQuery and I have a problem while trying to create a form. I am using the Validation plugin for validate the email (one the form's field). When I click the Submit button I want to call my own function because I want to save the data in an XML file.     Hi, I'm studying EJB3. I have a session bean which provides services to create/update customer accounts. This session bean offers services on the lines of: public void addCustomer(Customer c); public void updateCustomer(Customer c); Ideally I'd like to have a single servlet: CustomerServlet and it would invoke the session beans that I have listed above. Problem is that I have two JSPs: UpdateAccount.jsp and CreateAccount.jsp. Both of these JSPs have a form with a method POST and action "CustomerServlet". How can I distinguish in a customer servlet which operation I should carry out: createAccount or updateAccount? I guess the alternative is to have a separate servlet for each operation... Thank you

  • Excel VBA ComboBox2 doesn't get the right content

    Hi, I'm having a problem with the content of a combobox. On my userform, there are 3 comboboxes. Depending on the chosen item from combobox1, combobox2 should display either set 1 or set 2. The same will be happening with the content of combobox 3, which depends upon the combination of chosen items from combobox 1 and 2. However, I'm running into problems with combobox 2, which is always populated by set 2, even if I select the item in combobox 1 that should generate set 1 in the second combobox. TableA and TableB. ***TableA - Columns*** TableA_ID INT VALUE VARCHAR(100) ***TableB - Columns*** TableB_ID INT TableA_ID INT VALUE VARCHAR(100) For every single record in TableA there are always 2 records in TableB. Therefore TableA has a one-to-many relationship with TableB. How could I write a single sql statement to join these tables and return a single row for each row in TableA that includes: a column for the VALUE column in the first related row in table B a column for the VALUE column in the second related row in table B?     hi guys, I have a listview which displays (eventually) an album cover of an itunes play list with the album name under it. the problem I am having is that I cannot get the album art (currently a blank square) ABOVE the album name. It always is on the side... how do I do it?     I have a problem with implementing touch events on GLSurfaceView. Views size is 1280x696, because of android (tablet) status bar at bottom with soft keys, time etc.., (screen resolution is 1280x800), but OnTouchListener is receiving touch events with coords [646.0,739.0], and thus my gluunproject method fails to return correct values is there any way to return events that respect these boundaries? or how should I recalculate the position?

    i have been programming in C/C++ for my academic courses a lot and was under the impression i had a pretty good grasp of it. but lately i had to work in a bluetooth application that had a server and client implementation in a Linux box and an embedded system. i learned bluez bluetooth API, socket/network programming and coded it. however i ran into a lot of problems with memory leaks and segmentation faults and other memory related errors along the way.as the code grew more complex i all but lost control of the pointers and threads and sockets. this got me wondering that i had a lot to learn that they didn't say in the basic C/C++ books. so i wanted to ask for the resources that are available that'll help be code better in a professional way in C/C++ .especially for the Linux/Mac environment (gcc compiler).

  • How to remove the upper right close button

    I need to kill the close 'x' button at the top of a jQuery UI modal dialog box. I have a modal that opens with an OK button that redirects to the site. The site behind the modal is in an iframe. When the user agrees to the statement in the dialog box and clicks the 'OK' button, it redirects to the site that is outside the iframe. If the user clicks on the 'x', it goes to the iframe site, which I do not want to have happen. I need the modal to work as a one-way to the site it goes to. It basically forces the user to accept the user agreement. I would post code, but its an intranet site. Thanks everyone for your help! EDIT: This site is a government intranet portal, not a commercial site. So the goal is NOT to trap a user into the site, but rather to let the user know that the use of this site is restricted and to make sure you understand and accept the user agreement or you cannot use the site.

    I have situation. I have to create a Sports Club system in JAVA. There should be a class your for keeping track of club name, president name and braches the club has. For each sports branch also there should be a class for keeping track of a list of players. Also each player should have a name, number, position and salary. So, I come up with this. Three seperate classes: public class Team { String clubName; String preName; Branch []branches; } public class Branch { Player[] players; } public class Player { String name; String pos; int salary; int number; } The problems are creating Branch[] in another class and same for the Player[]. Is there any simplier thing to do this? For example, I want to add info for only the club name, president name and branches of the club, in this situation, won't i have to enter players,names,salaries etc. since they are nested in each other.   • Visual Studio appears to randomly adopt american keyboard layout

    Gah! this is really causing me hassle today. Suddenly without warning '@' (at symbol) and '"' (double quote) are trading places on my keyboard but ONLY in Visual Studio 2008 !!! I can't seem to find anything in help or online to explain/remedy this. Is there some keyboard shortcut I am inadvertantly executing?? I rebooted my PC and it went away for an hour or two and then suddenly came back. Oh the insanity :(
