  • jqgrid retrieving empty rows using webapi (REST)

    I'm using jqgrid in an ASPNET MVC4 project with WebApi (REST), Entity Framework 5 using Unit Of Work and Repository patterns. My problem is that I see the data flowing as json to the browser and I see three rows in the grid, but those rows are empty, and the data is not shown (three empty rows in the grid).     Hi, I have three windows: 1st - main window 2nd - child window - it's opened using window.showModalDialog from 1st widnow. 3rd - window - is an ancestor of 1st window and is's opened from 2nd window using window.showModalDialog. And now what I need to achieve is to open 1, 2 and 3 window. Next after closing the 3rd one, refresh the 2nd one. And after closing the 2nd one, refresh the 1st one. But there is one more assumption, I don't want to have any post-back during this process. Dose anybody have any idea how to make it?

    I am trying to figure out a way to update my web.config for different environments by updating the configSource for the appSettings element in the web.config. Here are the way I know how to do it. $xml.get_DocumentElement().appSettings.configSource = $replaced_test The problem is that I want one base script where I can pass in different nodes to the script that I want to change and update but I am not sure how to do it. For example, I want to be able to call a powershell script like this changeWebConfig.ps1 nodeToChange newValueofNode I hope this was clear enough.   • Rendering PDFs from a database inside MVC views?

    I was wondering if it's possible to do this without using 3rd party compnents in MVC 3. (I am open to free components though.) There are a couple of links out there but they seem to be mostly concerned with reporting and other code samples that do claim to do this sort of thing don't seem to compile. I'm not having any trouble saving and retrieving the PDFs to and from my database, but when I return the PDF as a File or a FileStreamResult the user is prompted with a download. A more desirable approach would be to actually render the PDFs inside the browser. I've had a look at iTextSHarp, it does the job to an extent, but it's not a complete solution. For example it will display the PDF inside the view if and only if the client has Adobe Reader installed, otherwise it prompts for a download. So technically, I'm mostly looking for a PDF viewer. Any ideas?

    I'm attempting to add a web reference to my ASP.Net 3.0 project. This is a reference to the SQL Server Reporting Services web service. I have verified the service is up and running, but when I try to add the web reference in my project, I am prompted for my credentials, which I enter, and then prompted again and again and again. I have to hit cancel to stop the vicious cycle. When I do that the service definition comes up in the window, but the "Add Reference" button is disabled so I can't add the reference to my project. I have limited knowledge of SQL Reporting Services configurations. If anyone knows how to resolve this problem I'd really appreicate it.

  • Adding childs to list of parents with jquery /mvc2

    Hi, I have a table of products on my page, each product has zero or more colors, the colors are shown as a list beneath the product. After the colors I have a button to add a color. The button will do an ajax call with the parent product id to a controller which will return a JSON object with color information. My problem is where to store the product id in the DOM, should I put it in a hidden field and use jquery in the click event of the "add color" to get to it? What is the best way to do this? TIA, John EDIT: The page is initially rendered on the server so I don't want to use jquery to add the id's to the page.

  • Strange File Upload issue with asp.net site on a web farm

    I have a basic asp.net file upload page. When I test file uploads from my local machine, it works fine. When I test file uploads from our dev machine, it works fine. When I deploy the site to our production webfarm, it behaves strangely. If I access the site from off the network, I can load file-after-file without issue. If I access the site from within our network, I can load the first file just fine but any subsequent files result it a bad sequence of commands error. I'm not sure if this is web farm issue, a network issue, or something else. It feels like a connection is not being disposed of properly but it doesn't make sense why everything works fine remotely.     Intro: After reading Brad Wilson Metadata series and searching unsuccesfully on google, I was wondering: Question: Has any OS project / code been created that allows you to tag CSS styles in the Meta information, for example in my (buddy) Model, I want to be able to decorate a property with multiple CSS styles (a single style you can fake with UIHint, I want to set many possible styles - and be able to "cross-utilise") eg. public class MyModel { [DisplayCssHint("h5")] [DisplayCssHint("color:#777;")] [EditorCssHint(".myCoolTextClass")] [EditorCssHint(".myOtherCoolTextClass")] public string Title{ get;set; } [DisplayCssHint(".normaltext")] [EditorCssHint(".myCoolTextClass")] [EditorCssHint(".myOtherCoolTextClass")] public string Message {get;set;} } Thoughts: I know that this does not seem like a logical place to put styling information, however as it is metadata and is discriptive... besides it would be nice to do this while prototyping - (especially being able to apply class styles and extending it further - to generate .Less files would really be cool! more to the point I would hate to write it, if its already been done ;).   • Microsoft Speech Recognition in web service

    I'm trying to use the System.Speech.Recognition namespace for recognizing speech in a web service. Actually, the WS calls a dll that uses this namespace. The problem is that...I can't. First, I had a Access denied error. After changing the Identity of my application pool to LocalSystem (security break, I know), that disappeared. But a timeout appeared. I receive no error, but no response either. I did some tests, and, the same code (very simple) that I use for recognizing the text in a WAV returns the answer in around 2 seconds, when integrated in a desktop application, but hangs and does nothing in a web application. I think I'm missing something... I'm not supposed to use System.Speech.Recognition in a web application? Am I supposed to use something else? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  • LINQ to SQL repository - caching data

    I have built my first MVC solution and used the repository pattern for retrieving/inserting/updating my database. I am now in the process of refactoring and I've noticed that a lot of (in fact all) the methods within my repository are hitting the database everytime. This seems overkill and what I'd ideally like is to do is 'cache' the main data object e.g. 'GetAllAdverts' from the database and to then query against this cached object for things like 'FindAdvert(id), AddAdvert(), DeleteAdvert() etc..' I'd also need to consider updating/deleting/adding records to this cache object and the database. What is the best apporoach for something like this? My knowledge of this type of things is minimal and really looking for advice/guidance/tutorial to point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.
